I want you...

Minseok rolled his eyes as Jongdae – his idiot of a best friend – dragged him by the hand into Kris’s house.

They were having a night in – sleepover, no matter how much the others denied it – and were going to make a good night of it, too. They had scary movies, snacks and a surprise from Jongdae in store.

Despite the Jongdae like the back of his hand, Minseok really had no idea what was in store for them.

What Minseok didn’t know, however, was that he was actually the only one that didn’t know what was about to go down.

He laughed softly as Jongdae pulled him into the living room and forced him to sit and wait.

“What’s going on?” Minseok asked, though did as instructed.

Jongdae smiled sweetly, “You’ll see” he sang as he skipped out of the room and flipped the light off as he went.

Minseok sat patiently for a short while before music began to play from the surround sound. And then Jongdae’s voice was filling the room.

“Anytime I need to see your face, I just close my eyes and I am taken to a place where your crystal mind and magenta feelings take up shelter in the base of my spine, sweet like a chic-a-cherry-cola”

As this happened, his other friends moved into the living room, Yixing and Jongin dancing as Kyungsoo and Baekhyun provided back-up vocals.

Kris stood in the centre of the room with various pieces of card in his hands, whilst Chanyeol, Junmyeon and Luhan lined up behind him.

Sehun and Tao were nowhere to be seen, but when spot lights began to follow the dancers and another landed on Kris, he guessed that they were behind that.

Kris smiled as he help up the first card;

‘KIM MINSEOK, YOU ARE MY BEST FRIEND’ it read, he dropped that to reveal the next;

‘YOU’RE MY FAVOURITE PERSON IN THIS WORLD! BESIDE MY MUM... SO I’M GOING TO SHOW YOU HOW MUCH YOU MEAN TO ME. SIT BACK AND LISTEN, MIN!’

He dropped that to reveal another;

‘I’VE BEEN HIDING SOMETHING FROM YOU FOR A WHILE NOW, AND I THINK I OWE YOU THE TRUTH’

Another dropped card to the floor to reveal the last card that he was holding;

‘CAN YOU GUESS YET?!’

He then dropped that and moved to the back of the line as Chanyeol stepped forward.

"I don't need to try and explain, I just hold on tight, andd if it happens again, I might move so slightly, to the arms and the lips and the face, of the human cannonball that I need to, I want to” Jongdae sang, “come stand a little but closer, breathe in and get a bit higher, you’ll never know what hit you when I get to you…”  as he sang Chanyeol was flashing his own cards at Minseok, whose face was splitting into a grin.

‘EVER SINCE THE DAY I MET YOU, YOU STOOD OUT TO ME. YOU WERE MY DRIVING FORCE, YOU’VE MADE ME A BETTER PERSON’

The card fell to the floor to join those that Kris had dropped, and the next card was revealed;

‘YOU’RE SMART AND FUNNY AND HANDSOME, AND EVEN WHEN YOU’RE DOWN YOU ALWAYS LAUGH AND SMILE WITH US. I OWE A LOT TO YOU, HYUNG’

The confusion was long gone as the music continued to fill Minseok’s ears and he read the cards. Tears were beginning to fill his eyes as a grin began to bloom on his face. Jongdae was a complete idiot. Sweet, but an idiot nonetheless.

‘I COULD SING A THOUSAND SONGS TO YOU AND THEY STILL WOULDN’T EXPLAIN HOW I FEEL ABOUT YOU. YOU REALLY ARE ONE OF A KIND, AND I LOVE THAT’

Chanyeol dropped that card to reveal one with a picture of Minseok on it, under which was the word ‘Perfect’ in blue sparkly lettering.

Jongdae’s voice sang on, “ooh I want you, I don’t know if I need you but, ooh I’d die to find out. Ooh I want you, I don’t know if I need you but, ooh I’d die to find out.”

Chanyeol moved to the back of the line and Junmyeon moved forward in time to the beat of the song.

He gave Minseok a small wave as he lifted his first card;

‘YOU REMIND ME THAT THERE IS A LOT OF GOOD IN THIS WORLD, AND YOU MAKE ME THINK THAT THINGS CAN BE OKAY’

There was a brief pause in his switching of cards as Jongin and Yixing danced in front of Junmyeon to swap sides of the room and then Junmyeon held up the next card;

‘EVERYDAY I WAKE UP AND MY FIRST THOUGHT IS OF YOU. HOW ARE YOU, WHAT ARE YOUR PLANS, ARE YOU HAPPY, CAN I JUST HUG YOU FOREVER?’

That card was dropped to the floor and there was another ready behind it.

‘YOU’RE THE LAST THING I THINK OF BEFORE I FALL ASLEEP. WHY ARE YOU SO AMAZING, HOW LUCKY AM I TO BE FRIENDS WITH YOU, WHAT’S YOUR SECRET?’

And finally, Junmyeon revealed the last card in his hands.

‘YOU’RE ALWAYS ON MY MIND, AND TO BE HONEST, MIN… I CAN’T FIND IT IN ME TO WANT TO THINK OF ANYTHING ELSE…’

Junmyeon gave Minseok a cheery thumbs-up before twisting out of the way and heading to the back of the line, allowing Luhan to step forward as Jongdae sang the next verse.

“I’m the kind of person that endorses a deep commitment, getting comfy, getting perfect is what I live for, but a look, then the smell of perfume, it’s like I’m down on the floor and I don’t know what I’m in for”

Luhan shot Minseok a giant grin as he revealed his first piece of card as Jongdae’s dreamy voice continued;

“Conversation has a time and a place, in the interaction of a lover and a mate, but the time of taking, using symbols, using words, can be likened to a deep sea diver who is swimming with a raincoat”

Minseok smiled at the whole elaborate plan that Jongdae had set up as he read over Luhan’s first card;

‘MAYBE I DON’T NEED YOU. BUT I DO VERY MUCH WANT YOU, MINSEOK’

Luhan dropped that card to show Minseok the next, his grin growing as he watched the face of his friend light up more and more with every word that he read and that Jongdae sang for him.

‘YOU CAN’T EVEN IMAGINE HOW FAST MY HEART BEATS WHEN YOU SMILE AT ME. OR WHEN YOU DO ANYTHING, REALLY. BECAUSE IT’S JUST… YOU’

Minseok didn’t know whether to focus more on his best friend’s singing or the words that the boy had written down for him.

“Come stand a little bit closer, breathe in and get a bit higher, you’ll never know what hit you, when I get to you” Jongdae sang, “ooh I want you, I don’t know if I need you but, ooh I’d die to find out. Ooh I want you, I don’t know if I need you but, ooh I’d die to find out.”

Minseok focused back on the cards in Luhan’s hands, his eyes watering slightly in sheer amazement. He couldn’t remember a time that he’d ever felt so wanted. And to be wanted by someone that you’d loved for so very long… To be wanted by Jongdae. Well, it just didn’t get any better than that.

‘YOU’RE BETTER THAN EVERYTHING AND I WANT TO SHARE SO MUCH WITH YOU’

Another card dropped from Luhan’s hands to the floor.

‘MY LAME JOKES, THAT YOU STILL LAUGH AT JUST TO HUMOUR ME’

Then dropped another.

‘MY EXPERIENCES, BECAUSE LET’S FACE IT, WHO ELSE WOULD I WANT TO SHARE THOSE WITH?’

And another.

‘MY LAUGHS, YOU’RE THE REASON FOR MOST OF THEM ANYWAY’

Another.

‘MY WORLD… HONESTLY, THIS WORLD WOULD MEAN NOTHING IF I DIDN’T HAVE YOU IN IT. YOU’RE MY ANCHOR MIN, WITHOUT YOU I’D BE LOST IN SPACE’

Luhan dropped one last card to reveal the final one remaining in his hands, even he was started to feel a little emotional at the whole thing.

“Any time I need to see your face, I just close my eyes and I am taken to a place where your crystal mind and magenta feelings take up shelter at the base of my spine, sweet like a chic-a-cherry-cola” Jongdae sang as Luhan flashed the last card, that read;

‘MY LIFE…’

And then Luhan stepped out of the way to Reveal Jongdae, who was holding a blank piece of card, though it obviously had something written on the back of it.

“I don’t need to try and explain, I just hold on tight” Jongdae sang as he smiled sheepishly at Minseok, who couldn’t help but grin back, his cheeks flushed red as he did, “and if it happens again I might move so slightly, to the arms and the lips and the face of the human cannonball that I need to, I want to…”

Minseok laughed softly as Jongdae began to move closer, the tips of his ears tinged red in embarrassment.

But he didn’t let it stop him. “Ooh I want you, I don’t know if I need you but, ooh I’d die to find out. Ooh I want you, I don’t know if I need you but, ooh I’d die to find out.”

He knelt in front of Minseok with a nervous smile before revealing the last card;

‘SO WILL YOU BE MY BOYFRIEND?’

“So can we find out?” Jongdae finished the song with a small smile as the music faded and everyone waited with baited breath for Minseok’s answer.

Minseok laughed, “How could anyone ever say no after that?!” he asked, wrapping Jongdae in a tight hug.

“So you will then?” Jongdae beamed, pulling back slightly to properly look at Minseok.

Minseok nodded, his eyes still teary as he looked at Jongdae, “Yes, doofus!” he grinned before pulling Jongdae in for a well-earned and long awaited kiss.

They pulled back a moment later, both of them red faced as the rest of their friends cheered and clapped like mad men.

Both Sehun and Tao had returned by this point, and the lights were back up so that everyone could see properly.

Later they were sat around the sofa, watching Scream and eating popcorn as Minseok turned to his best friend-turned-boyfriend.

“How long did that take you to plan?” he asked, raising a brow at the other boy.

Jongdae flushed, about to answer, but Luhan beat him to it.

“Well, it depends. The whole shebang took like a month, but if you count him bribing us to be a part of it, he’s been working on this for the better part of like two and a half, three months maybe” he cackled at the way Jongdae threw a pillow at him.

“Shut up, you little !” Jongdae huffed, “Ignore him…”

Minseok laughed, “No, I think it’s sweet” he said, “Really… I didn’t expect that at all, but it really has made me a happy fella”

“Not to mention; story to tell the grandkids” Sehun put in, throwing an arm carelessly over Luhan’s shoulders.

Jongdae’s face grew ever redder at the connotation behind Sehun’s words, only making the others laugh at his embarrassment. Even Minseok couldn’t help but let out a small snicker.

“Min…” Jongdae whined, “Not you too!”

Minseok grinned, “I’m sorry, Dae. But it is a little funny seeing you get so embarrassed. You literally never get like this”

“Yeah, well… You’re special to me, okay” Jongdae admitted, looking down at the floor.

Minseok smiled softly, taking Jongdae by the hand and linking their fingers together, “You’re special to me too, you know. I’ve liked you for a long time, too… Although I never thought to sing I want you to you, admittedly” he chuckled, “But really, you’ve got nothing to be embarrassed about, I really liked what you put together. It was really thoughtful, and I couldn’t have asked for a better way to be confessed to”

Jongdae smiled slightly, “Thanks, Min”

“No, thank you for making my day” Minseok pressed a soft kiss to Jongdae’s cheek, “Now, let’s see how long it takes before Tao cries”

Yeah, Jongdae really did want Minseok.

And after everything, he decided that maybe he did need him, too.
