In love with a bad boy...

You’re so bad but you make me feel so good.

Tao doesn’t care what people say, he loves Kris, and as far as he can tell Kris loves him too. They’re young and in love, and he knows that because of the way Kris acts and dresses, people look down on him, people think Kris is the kind of person that people don’t want their sons being around.

In all honestly, Kris isn’t a bad person. But he’s your typical bad boy, in his leather jacket and tight jeans with the Doc Martins to match. And Tao supposes that it doesn’t help that Kris rides a Motorbike – Tao thinks that is one of the hottest things going.

“Taozi, you ready?” Kris calls, his bike is running, and he’s got one foot on the ground to keep himself steady as he waits by the gate for Tao.

Kris is twenty-one, and although Tao is only eighteen, none of their friends bat an eyelid at it. Although Tao’s best friend, Jongin, doesn’t like Kris all that much, he does like one of Kris’s best friends though. The owl-eyed one with the thick lips that he’s pretty sure is called Kyungsoo.

“Coming” Tao calls back, “Later, Kai” he smiled before running over to Kris and climbing on the back of his bike. Kris hands him a helmet as he does, and Tao is all too quick to put it on.

He grips tightly onto Kris as the elder takes off fluidly and kicks the bike into high gear to have them speeding down the roads and zooming in and out of cars so that they can get to where they usually go to be alone.

Tao likes being alone with Kris, because there isn’t any pretending. With Kris, he can just be himself.

There was a time before he and Kris got together when he was just as bad as the others – he judged Kris and his friends based on how they looked. Because Kris had two full sleeves of tattoos and he had a lip ring and an eyebrow piercing. He wore dark eyeliner and smoked cigarettes. He was everything that Tao had been brought up to be cautious of.

But then Kris had come over to him one day and handed him a little panda keychain with a sheepish smile after stamping out a cigarette with his black cherry Docs, “I noticed you dig pandas” he had said. And Tao had fallen so completely in love with him at that moment that there was just no turning back.

It isn’t long before Kris is turning into a small alley and cutting the engine to his bike, kicking out the rest stand so that the bike is steady on its own whilst they climb off and store their helmets under the seat.

Kris gives Tao a soft smile and offers out his hand, looking pleased when Tao takes it and they begin to make their way into the old warehouse that’s beside them.

They climb up the rickety and rusted metal stairs until they get to the broken door at the top which leads them out onto the roof, and it’s there that they walk over to the edge and rest on the small wall, leaning against the metal barriers that keep them from slipping.

Kris reaches into his pocket and pulls out a packet of smokes, he brings one to his lips and pulls it out before pocketing the pack again and grabbing his lighter instead.

He lights it with practiced hands before putting his lighter away and taking a deep drag, feeling the toxins work their way through him and penetrate his lungs, then he brings the cigarette between his fingers and away from his lips to breathe out a puff of cloudy white smoke.

“Doesn’t it taste bad?” Tao asks curiously, “I can taste it when you kiss me… And it isn’t too nice then…”

Kris lets out a soft chuckle, “Do you want to try it?” he asks with a raised brow.

Tao hesitates for a moment. His mother always told him that he shouldn’t smoke, that if he did she would see to it that he’d be punished. His dad threatened to make him eat an entire pack if he ever caught him being stupid enough to smoke.

But then, his parents weren’t there, and Kris was, and honestly a part of him wants to impress his older boyfriend.

He tries to look confident as he reaches out and takes the cigarette from Kris, but he knows he isn’t doing a very good job. He’s nervous as he brings it to his lips and takes a drag, only to find himself choking and spluttering soon after.

He hears more than sees Kris laugh as he takes it back and gives Tao a pat between his shoulder blades, encouraging him to cough it all up.

“That’s ing foul” Tao splutters, looking at the offending stick of death with distaste, “Why do you even smoke those?!”

Kris shrugs, but Tao can tell he’s not telling him something, “Just like ‘em” he lies.

“Yifan…” Tao tries

“Leave it” Kris says, and it’s clear there is no room for argument on the matter. “I’m gonna call Kyungsoo and a couple of the guys up. You can invite your Jongin, if you want? I’ll get them to bring some beers”

Tao nods, “Alright, I’ll ask him” he says, he pulls out his phone and walks away whilst Kris gets in touch with his ‘gang’.

Jongin answers on the second ring, “bored already?”

“No, ” Tao laughs, “Kris is asking some of his buddies out for a couple of drinks, d’you wanna come too?”

He can hear the hesitation in Jongin’s silence.

“Kyungsoo will be here”

“So?” Jongin huffs.

But Tao knows he’s won. “I’ll text you the address. Be on the roof”

Fine” Jongin says before cutting the call.

“Is he coming?” Kris asks, walking over to grab Tao’s hand so that he can pull him to the corner where they usually hang out.

There’s a couple of beat up old sofas, a beanbag, a worn coffee table and a plastic garden chair under a large blue tarp. Kris had told him a while back that he and his friends set it up so that they could chill there when they didn’t feel like being at home. And Tao’s glad because he likes hanging out there.

He and Kris have been seeing each other for almost a year now, and even still it kind of surprises him just how chilled out about everything Kris is, whilst being so assertive at the same time.

He expected him to be kind of scary to be honest, but out of them all the scariest one is Kyungsoo. Followed by Kris’s friend Yixing – who is awfully possessive of their other friend Junmyeon.

Kyungsoo is the same age as him, but he is so different from him. Kyungsoo is short, but he’s intimidating. Like Kris, he’s covered in tattoos, and his ears are full of metal. He tends to not smile too much and he’s pretty quiet, but Tao knows that he’s a nice person. Even if he does scare the ever living out of him sometimes.

Yixing is pretty friendly too, he’s not as inked up, but he does have his back and sides covered, and a half sleeve on his left arm. And piercing wise, he only has one ear pierced on his lobe and then scaffolding. He’s only year younger than Kris, and he’s Chinese too, which is nice. They chat in Mandarin sometimes, until Junmyeon gets whiney that he doesn’t understand. Tao isn’t naïve though, just as Yixing can be sweet, he can be pretty vicious. He once caught someone flirting with Junmyeon, and though he doesn’t admit anything, the guy ended up in the hospital a week later, after several warning that he didn’t heed.

Junmyeon is the sweetest of the bunch, he’s kind of the mum of the group as far as Tao sees. He’s the voice of reason, where it’s needed, but he’s also pretty laid back when it comes to their alcohol and casual drug use – granted it’s only weed. He has his ear and brow pierced and has a small tattoo on the back of his neck that says Yixing’s name in Chinese. He’s only a year younger than Kris too.

Then there is him and Jongin, who are tat-less and whilst Tao has his ears pierced, Jongin is a complete piercing . They are pretty much your stereo-typical goody two shoes lads. Even if Tao does do martial arts.

Kris pulls him down to sit on the sofa, slinging an arm over Tao’s shoulders whilst they wait for the others to arrive.

“Yeah, he’ll be here” Tao tells Kris softly, a small smile on his lips at knowing just why the dog-lover was going to be there.

Kris hums, “You know we’ll be smoking too, right? That won’t bother him, will it?”

“I don’t think it will” Tao shifts awkwardly, “I’m pretty sure he’s too deep into his crush on Kyungsoo to care”

Kris laughs at that, “Oh , yeah, I forgot about that” he takes another long drag of his cigarette, making sure to blow the smoke away from Tao’s direction, “I ing hope Kyungsoo notices, it’ll be hilarious!”

“Hey, don’t make it awkward for him, you know how he is with you as it is” Tao warns.

Kris scoffs, “Oh give me a break, Taozi” he says, putting out his smoke on the wall and tossing the to one side, where there seems to be a never ending pile. “He doesn’t like me because he thinks I’m some ing messed up gang member or something. I’m not allowed to be a bit of a even when he judges me and my mates on how we look?”

“I’m not saying that” Tao stresses, “But it’s important to me that he likes you, alright?”

Kris sighs, he can never do anything to upset Tao, even if he wanted to, “Alright, you win. As always”

“Thank you” Tao smiles, leaning over to press a sweet kiss to Kris’s lips.

“Alright, ing hell, I didn’t come out for a free o”

They pair look up to see Kyungsoo walking over, a crate of beer under both arms as Yixing and Junmyeon follow after him, Junmyeon carrying another couple of crates, and Yixing carrying another one.

“You’re alright when Yixing and Junmyeon are practically ing in front of you though?” Kris shoots back easily as the three new-comers place the beer on the table.

Kyungsoo snorts as he takes a seat on the plastic garden chair, whilst Yixing and Junmyeon opt for the other sofa.

“Yixing and Junmyeon are hot” Kyungsoo shots back, “You two are ing awkward little s” he doesn’t waste any time in reaching over and grabbing a beer, cracking it open and taking a long gulp.

Kris pulls a face, “Rude” he says, before turning to look at the other two, “Hey” he greets them.

“Hey man” Junmyeon nods.

Yixing hums, hardly bothering to look up as he pulls a small baggie out of his pocket and puts it on the table along with a grinder and his papers. He sets about making his first couple of splifs for the night, much to Kris’s amusement.

Junmyeon looks at Tao with a smile, “Hey kiddo, how’s school?”

“It’s not bad. I’m pretty sure I’m gonna get into my first choice college” he beams, making Junmyeon’s smile widen.

Yixing looks up briefly as he grinds, “What you taking?”

“Music” Tao shrugs, “And Wushu”

“Nice” Yixing smirks, “At least Kris has a bodyguard to keep him all safe and sound”

Kris flips off his best friend at that, “Get ed” he says.

“I have been” Yixing smirks, shooting Junmyeon a wink.

Junmyeon only laughs in return, used to his boyfriend’s antics by now.

“I’m feeling so ing fifth wheelish, right now” Kyungsoo groans, watching as Yixing finishes rolling and lights a joint.

Yixing takes a long drag before passing it over to Kyungsoo, who takes it gratefully and has a couple of puffs before handing it back.

“Jongin’s on his way” Kris says slyly, letting his arm wrap around Tao more securely and hold him closer.

Kyungsoo raises a brow, “Isn’t he the weird kid that won’t talk to anyone?”

Yixing snorts out a laugh at that, “Oh , that kid has such a for you, Soo” he passes the joint back to Kyungsoo, who looks a hundred percent done with the world as he puts it between his lips and breathes in deep and slow before passing it back to Yixing as he lets it out.

“ off, man” Kyungsoo says, but there’s no malice in his voice.

“Did I come at a bad time?”

The five look up to see Jongin standing there sheepishly, bouncing from one leg to the next.

“Not at all” Kyungsoo says, he briefly notes that Yixing passes the joint to Junmyeon instead of himself then, but he pays it no mind as he watches Jongin just stand there awkwardly.

Tao wants to say something, but Kris hands him a beer and he chooses to take a swig of that instead, trying not to giggle at the way Kris is mouthing lazily at his neck. He feels like he should be embarrassed, since they have an audience, but he’d long since gotten used to Kris’s openness when it came to his affections.

Kyungsoo lets out a laugh, shocking Tao slightly, because it isn’t a sarcastic one like usual, it’s an actual amused one, “You can sit, you know” he says to Jongin, “Grab yourself a beer”

Jongin nods awkwardly, grabbing a can before settling himself down in the beanbag beside Kyungsoo’s chair. “Thanks” he manages out.

Yixing looks up at him with a lazy smile, “Jongin, you dance, right?”

Jongin nods, “Yeah, how did you know?” he notes that Yixing’s eyes are kind of red, so he doubts that he was on his first joint.

“I work at LayMin dance workshop” Yixing says easily, leaning into Junmyeon, who is still puffing away, “You volunteer there, don’t you, in Minseok’s class?”

Jongin nods, looking slightly more at ease, much to Tao’s relief, “Yeah. I knew Minseok through a friend and he hooked me up with some work experience”

“I’d love to see you dance some time” Kyungsoo purrs with a smirk before leaning forward and grabbing Yixing’s stuff to set about rolling himself a joint.

Tao watched as Jongin flushed at the hidden implication in Kyungsoo’s words before he turned to look at Kris, “I think my mum saw you drop me off at home the other day” he says to his boyfriend.

Kris peers down at him with a raised brow, “So?”

“Well, they aren’t exactly thrilled with the idea of me hanging out with a – how did they put it – ‘hooligan that is too old for you’, so I’m not sure what they’re gonna do” he admits.

Kris frowns, “They can’t do ” he says, “You’re eighteen, not eight. They can’t control who you do and don’t see”

Tao sighs, “It isn’t that simple”

“The hell it isn’t” Kris rolls his eyes, reaching out and accepting the joint from Junmyeon to take a drag before passing it back and grabbing himself a beer instead, “You’re not a kid Zitao, they need to realise that”

“They’re my parents, Kris!”

Kris pauses for a moment, “And I’m your boyfriend” he shoots back, “So you need to pick – do what makes you happy, or do what makes them happy. Which will it be?”

There’s a silence that’s settled about the circle as everyone watches the couple curiously. Even Jongin isn’t sure how Tao is going to answer.

But eventually Tao sighs and leans in to kiss Kris firmly on the lips, “I choose making myself happy” he relents, lifting his can towards Kris, “To paving our own way in life” he toasts.

“To you, Taozi” Kris smiles, clinking his can against Tao’s.

Tao knows that his parents won’t understand, he knows that even if they meet Kris it might not go how he wants it to, just because of how Kris looks.

But the fact of the matter was, Tao was in love with a bad boy, and he wouldn’t have it any other way, because Kris made him feel alive.
