Lee Seung Rin handed over the package to the people behind the counter at the post office.

“Young girls these days. Always sending these huge gifts to their stars. Aigoo. It gets tiring, you know.”

“Mianhe, but still, thank you for sending it. Besides, they need to know that we support them.”

“I’m sure they would know it even without these unnecessary gifts.”

“Ajusshi, have you ever received a gift from someone who cares a lot about you?”

“N-no. Why would you ask a stranger that?”

“Because you’re acting strange. Bye!” Seung Rin smiled at the post office man and left. Gi Hye was waiting for her outside.

“What took you so long?”

“I had an interesting conversation with the ajusshi in there.”

“Yah, did you include my letter for Yoo Chun?”

“Aigoo, yes, I did. Now take me to go eat some noodles. I’m hungry.”

“Pig.”

“Cow.”

“Best friend.”

“Forever.” The two girls laughed as they entered the café.

Three years passed, and Seung Rin was now preparing to enter college. But she never failed to send her gift to Jae Joong every year when the new year came around. Unfortunately, school was going to prevent her from doing so. So her last gift before becoming a college student was a silver ring engraved with JJ. She kissed the ring before putting it back in the box.

“Aigoo, it’s you again.” Seung Rin smiled at the all too familiar ajusshi.

“Yes, it’s me again.” Seung Rin handed him the package.

“Oh, one more thing.”

“Two items this time?”

“No. This one is for you.”

“Me?”

“Neh. It’s going to be awhile before I come back here, so I wrote you a letter to thank you for all your time and for taking such good care of my items.” The ajusshi just smiled at her, as he remembered their very first conversation.

“Thank you, Miss.” Seung Rin waved good bye as she left.

“Gi Hye! Let’s go eat now! I’m so hungry!”

“Just one more game!”

“Araso! But hurry up please!”

“Yes!” And it was a quick game. When it ended, Gi Hye joined Seung Rin on the benches as she gulped down the rest of her water bottle.

“How gross! You’re sweating like a pig!”

“Cow.”

“Best friend.”

“Forever.” The two girls laughed as Gi Hye gathered her things.

“It’s your turn to treat this time. But I hope you don’t mind if I go shower at home really quick first.”

“I’d prefer it if you did. I’ll just wait.”

“Okay. Let’s go.”

Yoo Chun sat on Jae Joong’s bed.

“I’m so sad. This is the last letter I’m receiving for awhile from my Number 1 fan.” Jae Joong looked at his ring.

“Me too.” The two looked at each other before laughing.

“I looked forward to this every year.”

“Yoo Chun?”

“What?”

“Since we’re on a one month break, should we go look for our Number 1 fans?”

“Yah, that sounds like a pretty good idea.”

“What sounds like a pretty good idea?” Yunho joined Yoo Chun on the bed, followed by Chang Min and Jun Su.

“You guys remember our gifts from our Number 1 fans that we received at the same time every year?”

“Yeah? What are you two planning?”

“Well, since Manager gave us the month off, we decided that we would go look for them.”

“Really?!”

“Yeah. Do you guys want to help us?”

“If you guys cook me something to eat.” Everyone threw a pillow at Chang Min.

“I love eating noodles here.” Seung Rin just smiled at Gi Hye.

“We’ve come here ever since we started sending those letters.”

“I know. But now all of that is going to change.” They both sighed at the thought.

“I don’t like change.” Seung Rin giggled at Gi Hye.

“You never have. But this kind of change will benefit us. Besides, there’s less distraction for me now.” Gi Hye gave Seung Rin a sneaky smile.

“You’re going to miss sending Jae Joong those letters, aren’t you?” Seung Rin immediately covered Gi Hye’s mouth.

“Yah! Do you want to die?! Don’t just randomly say those things around public areas. It’s like asking for your death.” Gi Hye pushed Seung Rin’s hand away and continued to smile.

“Ah, I forgot. Mianhe. But you don’t deny it either, do you?” Seung Rin shyly smiled as she returned to her noodles.

“Neh, I don’t deny it. But I can’t keep holding onto an impossible dream. When I make my own dreams come true, then I’ll think about my impossible dream.”

“And I’ll be right there supporting you.”

“Because you want to meet Yoo Chun one day too.”

“Of course. I mean, I’ll make sure you get to meet Jae Joong first, but you know, it doesn’t hurt to take the chance to meet a fellow band mate.” Gi Hye smiled as Seung Rin threw a napkin at Gi Hye.

“So you’re just using me, are you?”

“No! I would never do that.” The two friends just laughed as they finished their noodles.

“Are you done, Gi Hye?”

“Yeah. Let’s go pay and then head to the library to study for our college entrance exams.” The two got up. Meanwhile, sitting in the seats behind them, a group had been eavesdropping on their conversation the whole time. When the two girls left the restaurant, the group smiled at each other.

“I didn’t think it’d be this easy to find them.” Yoo Chun glanced at Jae Joong.

“Me either! But I guess this is good because now, we have enough time to decide if we really want to approach them.” Chang Min noticed that Yoo Chun wasn’t smiling.

“Yoo Chun, you sure don’t look to happy about this.”

“I don’t know. I wasn’t expecting my Number 1 fan to look like a boy.” They all laughed. Jun Su wrapped an arm around Yoo Chun.

“If you don’t want to get to know her, then I will. She looks like a really good basketball player. And seeing as my next movie roll requires me to play basketball, I think I’ll learn from her.” Yoo Chun turned towards Jun Su.

“You’re right! Our next movie does require basketball skills. Thanks for the suggestion Jun Su!”

“Yah! How could you steal my idea just like that?!”

“Because she’s my Number 1 fan. Come on Jae Joong.”  Jae Joong eyed Yoo Chun questioningly.

“Where do you plan to go?”

“Follow them. I want to see what they’re like before I approach them.”

“Stalker.” Yoo Chun threw a piece of chicken at Yunho.

“I do agree with you, but they’re going to study for their exams. Do you really want to go sit at a library waiting?”

“They’re dedicated to us, so I think we should return the favor.”

“You always had a weird way of thinking. Fine, let’s go. Catch you three later then, I suppose.”

“Okay. Don’t mess up!”

Seung Rin and Gi Hye were walking down the street, each eating ice cream.

“So you’re still set on going to Seoul University, aren’t you?”

“Of coure! You?”

“Where my best friend goes, I go.”

“Aww… you’re so sweet.” Gi Hye flashed Seung Rin a smile.

“Yah, Gi Hye! Want to shoot some hoops?!” Gi Hye immediately stopped in her tracks. She slowly turned towards Seung Rin and gave her a pleading smile. Seung Rin just giggled.

“What happened to you’ll go where I go?”

“Come on, Seung Rin. The exam is still two months away. It’s our last year of high school, so we should be relaxing a bit.”

“Araso. Where you go, I’ll go too.” Gi Hye immediately hugged Seung Rin.

“Besides, I like watching you play basketball.”

“I know you do. Come on.”

Jae Joong and Yoo Chun stood a distance away.

“And you said they were going to the library.” Jae Joong gave Yoo Chun a guilty smile.

“Let’s go sit over there.”

“Are you crazy Yoo Chun?! People might recognize us!”

“No, not if we’re in the back. And besides, we can approach them afterwards.” Jae Joong gave the idea some thought before agreeing to it.

“Gi Hye!” Gi Hye caught the basket ball, ran for the hoop, dodged three people, and shot the ball at the hoop from a backwards angle. Seung Rin jumped out of her seat and started cheering.

“It went in! You won the game!”

“Woo!” Gi Hye ran over to Seung Rin and gave her a hug.

“Gross you’re covered in a sweat.” Seung Rin high-fived Gi Hye as they sat down.

“Great game you played Ahn!” Gi Hye just winked at the guys.

“Nothing like a good game.”

“And the boys.” Gi Hye laughed.

“That is the reason why I got interested in the game. The hot ones are always playing this sport.”

“Should we go now? I still have to help my mom cook dinner before my dad gets home.”

“Yeah, me too.”

“Excuse me?” The two girls turned around and nearly screamed at the sight of the two guys that approached them.

“I-I-It’s…”

“P-P-Park…”

“K-K-Kim…” Seeing how shocked the two girls were, the two guys couldn’t help but laugh.

“I’m sorry. We should introduce ourselves. My name is Kim Jae Joong.”

“And I’m Park Yoo Chun.” He handed Gi Hye a water bottle. She graciously accepted it, though still in shock. Seung Rin, on the other hand, shook her head a couple of times.

“I’ve been working too hard. Now I’m hallucinating.”

“Then I must be having the same hallucination as you, but I don’t think that’s true.”

“We’re sorry for shocking you two. But we are the real thing. We wanted to come find our Number 1 fans after receiving your last letter.” The two girls still couldn’t stop staring. They were in disbelief. But then Gi Hye smiled and held her hand out to Yoo Chun.

“It’s a pleasure to meet you, Yoo Chun shi. My name is Ahn Gi Hye.”

“Yoo Chun shi? Why not oppa?” Gi Hye let out a small laugh.

“Despite being your Number 1 fan, I’m saving oppa for someone special.” Yoo Chun smiled.

“Am I not special then?”

“No, you are. Just not my special.” Seung Rin smiled.

“I guess you two are real then. Well…” Seung Rin held her hand out to Jae Joong.

“It’s very nice to meet you. My name is Lee Seung Rin.”

“It’s nice to meet you too. I hope you two girls aren’t busy.”

“Why?”

“Well, I was hoping we could go watch a movie together, the four of us.” Gi Hye and Seung Rin looked at each other, still in disbelief, but then smiled as they knew they weren’t going to let a chance like this slip.

“We would love to go.”

Through the week, the four did many things together. But soon, they split into two, and Seung Rin got to know Jae Joong better. It wasn’t long before the two became best friends.

Gi Hye and Yoo Chun, on the other hand, spent a lot of time on the basketball court.

“I never thought I would lose to a girl.” Gi Hye smiled at Yoo Chun.

“Get used to it. You’re playing against Ahn Gi Hye, and I have never lost a challenge.” All of a sudden, two girls came up to them.

“Oppa! Sorry we’re late. We had some things to take care of first. Who’s she?” Yoo Chun glanced at Gi Hye and smiled.

“Like you girls, she’s a fan.”

“Really? Nice to meet you.” Gi Hye just smiled and nodded to the girls.

“I hope you don’t mind, Gi Hye, but I have a date with these girls. I’ll catch you later, okay?”

“Yeah. Bye.” As soon as he left, Gi Hye gathered her things. She smirked as a tear fell.

“How stupid of me. He’s a star, Ahn Gi Hye. You don’t have a chance with a guy who can have his pick of what girls he wants.” She wiped her tears away, swung her bag onto her back and walked away.

[I never thought that my sport would betray me.] She threw her basketball over her head.

[Good bye, basketball.]

“No, really?” Seung Rin was holding her stomach from all the laughter she just had.

“Yep. Our tour had kept us from eating well, so when we got home, Chang Min wiped out all our food in the fridge.”

“With his appetite, you guys should’ve saw that coming.” Jae Joong wiped away his tears of laughter.

“We knew he was going to eat a lot, but we didn’t think he’d eat everything in our fridge.” Jae Joong looked at his watch.

“Oh, it’s getting late. I know you have to help your mom at home, so we should leave.”

“Already? Time flies. Okay. Well, see you tomorrow then.”

“I’ll walk you home.”

“W-What?!” Jae Joong laughed at Seung Rin’s reaction.

“I should be a gentleman still, even if I’m a star.” Seung Rin smiled.

“So arrogant. Okay, that would be nice.”

As they were walking, Seung Rin glanced at Jae Joong’s hand. She had noticed it when they were beginning to hang out together more often, but she felt embarrassed about asking the question. But now that they were closer… Seung Rin took a deep breath and forced her question out.

“Jae Joong shi…”

“Yes?”

“How come you’re not wearing the ring that I made?”

“Oh, that?” Jae Joong looked down at Seung Rin and smiled.

“Why do you ask?”

“Well, it’s not really important. Just out of curiosity.”

“Really?”

“Y-Yes.”

“I don’t believe you.” Seung Rin let out a sigh.

“You always figure me out. Fine. I’m just a little disappointed that you’re not wearing it because I put a lot of time into it.” Jae Joong laughed.

“Pabo. Why would I not wear it? If I wore it on my finger, I would lose it.” Jae Joong took off his necklace and held it out to show Seung Rin.

“So I keep it on a necklace.” Seung Rin was shocked at the answer, but then smiled.

“Are you always this sweet to girls?”

“No. Just those I care about.” Seung Rin’s smile just kept getting bigger.

The next day, Seung Rin got a surprise guest.

“Park Yoo Chun? What are you doing here?”

“Seung Rin, I’m worried. I haven’t been able to get a hold of Gi Hye.” Seung Rin smiled.

“It’s okay. It just means she’s busy or organizing her thoughts. She did this a lot when she had set her self to a goal. She took a couple of days to sort out her thoughts and feelings about it then made a plan to approach it.”

“Really? So, I don’t have anything to worry about?”

“Yeah. She’s fine.”

“That’s good. But I do miss hanging out with her. It’s been a couple of days.”

“Then she’ll probably come around today.”

“Okay. Thanks. Oh, and by the way, Jae Joong asked me to tell you that he’ll be waiting at the ice rink for you.”

“Really? Okay. Thanks!”

“Well, I’ll be going now. See you around, Seung Rin.”

“Same to you.”

Yoo Chun was running around the court, shooting hoops, trying to choreograph his play for the movie. He aimed and shot. But it got intercepted by someone who shot it into the opposite hoop.

“At this rate, you’re movie is going to fail.” Yoo Chun smiled as he saw Gi Hye.

“You weren’t here to teach me.”

“You never said you wanted my help. But I have a bet.”

“Okay. What is it?”

“We’ll play a game of 5. First to 3 wins. Loser pays for dinner.”

“Is that you’re way of asking me out.”

“Nope. Just a friendly game and a way for me to eat free.” The two met in the middle of the court and got ready to play.

“Or a free meal for me.”

“True. Anything could happen.” They both but their game smile on.

“Mianhe! I hope you were waiting long.” Jae Joong looked at an exhausted Seung Rin.

“Are you okay?”

“Yes. It’s just that I had some things at home to take care of, so I tried to rush so as not to be late.” Jae Joong smiled.

“It would’ve been okay for me. But since you’re here now, should we go inside?”

“Yeah. I love ice skating! It’s just always so crowded, that it’s hard to go anywhere.” Jae Joong smiled, but remained quiet about his surprise.

“That’s 3! I win!” Gi Hye sat on the floor, trying to catch her breath.

“Were you always that good?”

“No. I learned all the tricks from watching you play.” Gi Hye smiled.

“And I was so looking forward to a free meal.” Yoo Chun offered his hand to Gi Hye. She took it as he pulled her up.

“Want a trade?”

“What trade?” Yoo Chun wrapped an arm around Gi Hye’s waist as he lowered his head.

“A kiss.”

“Kiss? Okay.” She quickly kissed his cheek and pulled away.

“You’re treat!” Yoo Chun smiled at Gi Hye’s speed, but he grabbed her hand and pulled her back, his lips on hers. His hands traveled up to cup her face. Gi Hye’s hands were resting on his arms, but a million thoughts were going through her mind.

[All that sorting out of my feelings has just gone to waste.] Yoo Chun pulled back and rested his forehead against Gi Hye’s.

“Now it’s my treat.” Gi Hye found her strength and pushed away.

“I have to go.” She turned around and walked away. Yoo Chun ran up to her and stood in her path.

“Gi Hye, what’s wrong?”

“You are wrong. Why do men like you love toying around with a girl’s heart?” Yoo Chun smiled.

“I should’ve told you from the start.”

“Told me what?”

“That I like you.”

“That’s kind of hard to believe.”

“I know it is, but it’s the truth. After I got to know you better, I was shocked that I could like a girl like you. You were everything I didn’t want in a girl, yet you were the only one who remained by my side and didn’t ask anything of me. It’s been a long time since I’ve been the one to ask a girl to be mine.” Gi Hye still looked at Yoo Chun as if he was crazy.

“I did try to get you out of my mind by meeting up with other girls. You see, if you become my girlfriend, you become involved with the paparazzi, and they aren’t fun people to deal with. But now, I’m asking you because I don’t want to regret not ever having told you about my feelings.” Gi Hye frowned at him.

“Well you know what I think? I think… that as my boyfriend, you should’ve treated me to that dinner for free from the start anyway.” Yoo Chun smiled as he hugged Gi Hye.

“Thank you for understanding.” They walked hand in hand to the restaurant.

Seung Rin laughed as she skated all around the rink.

“Just because you’re a star doesn’t mean you should use it to your advantage.”

“Why not? And it’s not for my advantage. It’s for you.” Seung Rin skated up to Jae Joong.

“Well, thank you for renting out the entire rink just for me.” Jae Joong smiled as he pulled out a box.

“What’s this for?”

“A good luck charm for your exams.” Seung Rin smiled.

“My exam is still a few months away.”

“I know, but I have to return to my job in a week, so I thought I’d give it to you now because I want to be your boyfriend for the rest of my time here.” Seung Rin didn’t know how to answer that. She just stared in silence at Jae Joong opened the box. Inside was a necklace, and a ring dangling on it.

“Read it.” Seung Rin smiled as she picked it up.

~ JJ’s Love ~

She couldn’t help but laugh.

“Were you so confident that I’d say yes.” Jae Joong thought about it for a second.

“Yes.” The two of them laughed.

“Kim Jae Joong, I would love to be your girlfriend.” Jae Joong cheered all around the ice rink. He came back to Seung Rin and kissed her smiling lips.

“Do you want to know a secret?”

“What?”

“I was your secret admirer the moment I received your first letter.” Seung Rin couldn’t help but laugh as Jae Joong lowered his lips for another kiss.
