Nicki was tying her shoes, when her older brother’s Key and Minho came up to her.

“Want us to send you to school since it’s your first day?” Nicki glared at them.

“Absolutely not! You guys are an embarrassment.” They both clutched at their hearts.

“Our baby sister hates us!” Nicki smiled.

“No, I don’t. You both know I love you dearly, but I need to do things by myself, you know?” Her two older brothers walked up to her and patted her shoulder.

“We know. We have to let the baby grow up. Well, in that case then, I have to go to work.” Minho straightened his tie.

“Don’t want to be late on my first day.” Key fixed his jacket.

“I, on the other hand, have rehearsals to attend. See you both later.” They all said their goodbyes and went their separate ways. Of course, Nicki should have saw the driver waiting for her outside. With her status, no one would expect her to be walking about alone.

“Mr. Lee said to send you to school, Miss.”

“Aigoo… that Key. What part of not wanting to be seen does he not understand.” Nicki smiled towards the driver and got in the car.

Tae Min and his girlfriend, Sun Mi were walking up to school together when a black limo pulled in.

“Who could that be, arriving all grand?” Sun Mi turned towards Tae Min.

“You don’t know? We have a transfer student from Japan. I heard that her family is extremely rich as they own a chain of hotels all around the world. Also, her oldest brother is a very successful celebrity. She also has a successful brother in business. Her family is just flowing with money.” Tae Min eyed his girlfriend.

“Aigoo… what can money do?”

“A lot… omo! Why don’t you befriend her?! Maybe we can catch in on some of that money.” Tae Min thought about it for a moment, and then smiled.

“That’s not a bad idea. You won’t get jealous?” Sun Mi lightly punched Tae Min’s arm.

“It’s not like you’re going to actually fall in love with her.”

“Araso. See you later then.” Sun Mi grabbed onto Tae Min’s arm.

“Wait!” She leaned up to kiss Tae Min on the cheek.

“If it comes down to it, then we’re not dating. Do whatever it takes to get that money.”

“Greedy, aren’t we?” Tae Min returned the kiss and jogged up towards Nicki.

“Hi there!” Nicki jumped at the shocking greeting.

“Umm… hi…”

[Type: AVOID!]

“I’m Lee Tae Min. It’s very nice to meet you. Is this your first time in Seoul?”

“Are you kidding me? I’m a Korean myself. I was born here. Now, if you’ll excuse me, I have to go to class.” Nicki quickly pushed passed Tae Min. After Nicki was out of sight, Sun Mi joined him.

“Yah, what happened?” Tae Min glanced down at his girlfriend.

“Looks like this is going to be harder than I thought.”

“I don’t care what it takes, just squeeze some money out of her, otherwise I’m leaving you.” With that, Sun Mi walked away.

“Who do you think I am, that I would even care?” Tae Min followed the other students into the class.

To Nicki’s horror, she found out that she had a class with creeper from earlier that morning. When she saw him enter the classroom, she immediately looked back down at her piece of paper.

Unfortunately, Tae Min had seen her reaction. With a smile to himself, he walked up to her.

[On the other hand, this could be the most enjoyable thing I’ll probably do this year.]

“Are you going to continue ignoring me, Miss?” With those words, Nicki immediately looked up at him.

“Miss?” Tae Min smiled to himself.

[Got you.]

“Isn’t that the rightful title, for a girl so beautiful?” Nicki rolled her eyes.

“Well isn’t that something new. I know everything already. You want to get with me so you can get in on the cash flow my family gets. Well, for your information, I don’t even get any of it. I have to work hard for the money I earn.” Tae Min leaned back in the seat next to his.

“I didn’t know you were from a rich family.” Nicki confusing looked at him.

“Really? Not even with that big black car that I came out of?”

“You could’ve hired someone to do it so that you could easily make friends. After all, a lot of girls care about their social status.” Nicki immediately grabbed his hand, causing Tae Min to sit up in shock.

“Thank you! No one has ever insulted me before! It is so nice to finally have it happen.” Tae Min couldn’t help but laugh.

[This is an odd one.]

During their lunch break, Tae Min received a message from Sun Mi to meet her in front of the school.

“So, how’s it going?”

“Sun Mi, it’s only the first day. Besides, sooner or later, she’s going to find out I have a girlfriend.”

“Then let’s have a fake break up.”

“Fake?”

“Yes. In this way, you can get closer to her without any suspicions from her. Araso?” Tae Min looked at  his odd girlfriend, but smiled nonetheless.

“Araso.” Tae Min lowered his voice.

“But I will always be the first to break it off, whether it’s fake or not.” He cleared his throat and changed his mood.

“I’m so sick and tired of you! You’re not the same girl that I liked.” His words felt so real, Sun Mi couldn’t help but cry, causing Tae Min to smirk.

“Tears won’t help in this situation. We’re over.” Tae Min turned around and walked away, not glancing back once. Sun Mi just stood there, with tears flowing out.

[It was all fake, and yet… it felt like he really left me.] She forced a smile on.

“It’s ok though. Just for money, this is all good.” Sun Mi wiped her tears and returned to the cafeteria with her friends.

“Sun Mi, I can’t believe you and Tae Min broke up!”

“Yeah! We seriously thought you two were going to be high school sweethearts.”

“But, on the other hand, Tae Min is available now.” Sun Mi sent a piercing glare towards her friend.

“Yah, we’ll be back together, just wait.” The break up had been her idea, yet she was the one suffering. She looked around for Tae Min, and there he was, talking with his friends as if nothing had happened.

[Of course nothing had happened. It was a fake break up.] She continued to look at him, hoping he would give her a sign that everything was okay. But he never did.

“Yah, why does Sun Mi keep looking over here?”

“Onew, you idiot. It’s obvious that she still likes Tae Min.” Tae Min could only smile, but he refused to look up at Sun Mi because he was afraid his true feelings would show.

Weeks had passed since the incident. Tae Min continued to ignore Sun Mi, but spent more time with Nicki. Every time Sun mi called, he’d ignore it. Every message she sent, he deleted. Things were really becoming unclear towards him.

Tae Min stared out the window as thoughts flowed through his mind. So what? It was only a fake break up. Yet, when he had said those words, it felt so real. As if he meant every single word he said. And when he walked away, he felt a kind of… load being lifted off his shoulders.

“This isn’t right. I love Sun Mi.”

[But you never said those words to her.]

“The moment I agreed to be with her, I knew we were going to last.”

[Until you began to see that she wasn’t the innocent girl you had asked out on that date.] At that moment, his phone rang. It was Nicki. He smiled and answered.

“Hel—“ There was shouting in the background. And then a sniffling Nicki.

“Tae Min ah…”

“Nicki? Is everything okay?”

“Can we meet up?”

“Of course. When? Where?”

“In ten minutes at the park across the school.”

Tae Min was there in five minutes, but still, Nicki had beat him there. He calmed his breathing down and walked up towards her to see her crying.

“Nicki shi…” She looked up and smiled.

“Pathetic, right?”

“What happened?” Nicki got off the swing, walked up to Tae Min and hugged him. Instinctively, he wrapped his arms around her.

“My oppas got mad at me.”

“Why?” Nicki pulled out of the hug and dug in her bag. She pulled out an envelope and handed it to him.

“I told them that you needed 10000 won to pay off your mom’s debt. They told me not to trust you because you might be someone who’d go after our family’s money only. I told them that you were the first person to treat me like a normal person, and that you were a good friend and wouldn’t lie to me like that.” Those words flooded Tae Min with guilt. All he could do though was grip onto the envelope. He knew he should’ve pushed it back towards Nicki and spilled the truth, but there was still a hold over him, and he knew what it was. Kim Sun Mi. Nicki looked up into Tae Min’s eyes and smiled.

“I’m glad I can trust you.” She leaned up and kissed him on the lips.

Sun Mi had been following Tae Min for the past few weeks, wondering why he was ignoring her. She knew that he needed to push her away to get into Nicki’s bubble, but still… he was her boyfriend and needed to be there when she called for him.

She stood behind the post as she witnessed the scene in front of her. She nearly ran out to throttle Nicki for kissing her man, but the envelope that she had seen Nicki hand to Tae Min was enough to hold her back. She evilly smiled to herself.

“It’s okay. Tomorrow, everything will go back to normal, and I’ll have myself some money to spend.” She quickly her heels before she couldn’t control herself tomorrow.

Nicki had stayed after school to rehearse on the piano. In truth, she wanted to avoid going home as she was still mad at her brothers for not trusting her. The door opened and she smiled, knowing who it was.

“You’re late.”

“Oh, am I now?” However, she was wrong. She quickly turned around and was shocked to see Tae Min’s ex-girlfriend.

“Can I help you?”

“Yes. I want you to back off of my boyfriend.”

“Boyfriend? Oh, Lee Tae Min. You must be mistaken, but it seems as though you two have been over for three months now.” Sun Mi evilly grinned.

“No. It was all a fake. Tae Min and I agreed to end it so that he could get closer to you without suspicion. All we wanted was your money, and now that we have it, he can finally end this stupid relationship with you. If I had known it was going to go this far, I would’ve never agreed to it. But the money kept me motivated and I allowed for Tae Min to continue ignoring me. But not anymore.”

“You’re lying.” Tears were streaming down Nicki’s eyes. At that same moment, Tae Min walked in with a smile.

“Sorry I’m late. I had to –“ Upon seeing Sun Mi and Nicki, Tae Min knew everything had been ruined.

“Tae Min ah… have you been lying to me this whole time?” He took a step towards Nicki, only to be stopped by Sun Mi.

“Go ahead and tell her, Tae Min. Everything was a fake. You never cared for her. All you wanted was her money.”

“Nicki, I…”

“Tell me the truth! Have you been lying to me?!”

“Nicki… I…”

“Tell me!” Tae Min hesitated to answer. In fact, he wanted to be able to sit Nicki down and explain everything to her. He wanted to tell her that he had come to like her. No one had ever motivated him before in life. His grade improvements? All thanks to Nicki. His personality? Again all thanks to her. His view of life had changed. He wanted to be a better person, and only for just one person: Lee Nicki.

“Yes, but let me explain!”

“No. Maybe another time, but right now, I want to get out of here. You can keep the money and you don’t have to pay me back. Because I want nothing to do with you anymore.” Nicki walked out without looking at him.

“Finally! Yah, how long were you going to leave me feeling so lonely?” Tae Min turned towards Sun Mi, with anger in his eyes.

“Yah… are you okay?”

“Forever.”

“What?”

“I was going to leave you forever. I should’ve just turned that fake break up into a real one. Did you know that when I said those words, it all felt so real. And in a good way.”

“I don’t understand. Tae Min ah… you’re just confused… and you probably only feel guilt towards her… Araso. Take some time to sort out your feelings. I can wait a bit longer.”

“No. I’m so sick and tired of you! You’re not the same girl that I liked.” Tears were streaming down Sun Mi’s face.

“Don’t say it! It was supposed to be fake the first time only!”

“Well, this is the second time, and it’s not going to be fake. This is reality now, Kim Sun Mi. We’re over. Have a good life.” With that being said, Tae Min stormed out of the music room, hoping he could still catch Nicki.

Just as he walked out the front door, Minho’s fist connected with Tae Min’s face, causing him to stagger back.

“Don’t you ever come near our sister ever again! We were so close to believing her. I can’t believe we almost fell for your tricks too!” Key grabbed Tae Min’s jacket and pulled him violently up.

“Stay away from my baby sister. That’s all I have to say to you. I have a reputation to protect, so don’t make me threaten you.” Tae Min smiled.

“Okay, don’t threaten me, but listen to what I have to say first.”

“Why?”

“Because your sister has changed me. But if you’re not going to listen to me, then take this back. I’m sorry.” Tae Min took the envelope out and gave it to Key. He straightened up and began to walk away. Key glanced at the envelope and back at Tae Min.

“Yah. Come here. You have 5 minutes to explain yourself.” And Tae Min did exactly that.

“Why were you with that girl?!”

“Like I said, your sister changed me. I was a person who only cared for money, no matter how I obtained it. But your sister showed me that there was more to life. I mean, she comes from a rich family, yet she still goes out and works for every cent she spends. And I am truly sorry that I was such a bad person to her, but will you help me confess my feelings towards her?”

“Being her older brother, I should be telling you to back off and get back to your own life. But seeing as you have a positive affect on her, I’ll help you. Aish… my baby sister.” Tae Min smiled.

“Thank you so much… hyung-nim.”

“Yah, don’t even start!”

Nicki sat in her room, roaming for jobs, hoping to raise money to put back into her family’s account.

“I can’t believe I was that stupid.” She groaned as she continued to scroll the screen. There was a knock on her door and then Minho popped in.

“Yah, what are you doing, looking for jobs on your computer?”

“I have to find some way to put that money back in to the account.” Minho just smiled.

“It’s your birthday, you can do that another day. Come on. I want to take you somewhere. Key would’ve joined us, but he had somewhere to go.” Nicki smiled as she put her computer on standby, grabbed her jacket and followed her older brother out.

It was late at night before they began to head back home.

“Thanks for taking me out tonight, Minho. I miss the old days when the three of us would hang out together. I miss my two best friends.” Minho smiled at his baby sister. He went a little passed her and crouched down.

“Come on.”

“What are you doing?”

“I miss the old days too, and I miss carrying my baby sister on my back.”

“Really?! Can I?”

“Hurry before I change my mind.” Nicki smiled as she hopped onto Minho’s back.

“Yah! When did you get so heavy.” Nicki lightly tapped Minho on the head.

“I was five the last time I was on your back.” They both laughed as Minho ran down the streets.

After racing down the streets, Minho let Nicki off his back. They were in front of a theme park.

“It’s the theme park mom and dad used to take us to when we were younger.” Minho smiled.

“Yes it is, and I was lucky enough to get it emptied out.” Nicki surprisingly looked up at her brother.

“Why? It’s more fun with lots of people.”

“So that there wouldn’t be much scandal when you first start dating.”

“Huh?”

“Don’t make me and Key regret this, okay? I know you’ve come to love him, so just be happy.” Nicki looked into the theme park and saw the one person she hated at the moment. She returned her gaze to Minho.

“Minho, I want to go home. Forget the theme park.” Minho stopped Nicki before she could leave.

“Give him a chance. Can’t you trust me? Why would I bring you to him, if I didn’t trust him?” Nicki looked from her brother to Tae Min.

“Araso. For you and Key…”

“Good. Don’t stay out too late.” With that, Minho left.

There was silence between Tae Min and Nicki.

“Hurry and tell me what you need to. I have things to do too, you know.” Tae Min took a hold of Nicki’s hands.

“Nicki, I am truly sorry for what I did. But I want you to know that I’ve changed, and it’s because of you. You showed me that I have a future, and that all I need is to put effort and hard work into it. You were the one that supported me through everything. And I’m sorry for what Sun Mi said. I ended things with her and I only want to be with you. I know that it’ll be hard for you to forgive and accept me. And if I have to wait for you, I will.”

“You’re right. It will be hard, but I will try.” Tae Min smiled.

“That’s good enough for me.” They got onto the rides together and enjoyed the night. When the time came to leave, it was hard to do so as they had been having so much fun. But nonetheless, they returned home, as Tae Min didn’t want to disappoint Nicki’s brothers as they were the ones who helped him get a second chance.

The day of graduation came for Nicki and Tae Min. They had just taken the final test and they quickly ran down the stairs to see who would be the number one student.

[Please let it be me… please! I need that date tonight with Nicki.] They both arrived just at the same time.

“You know I made number one right?” Nicki nudged Tae Min.

“Sure…” They glanced up at the number one spot and were immediately shocked to see the results.

“YES!” Tae Min jumped up and down. Nicki stood there, her gaze fixed on the list.

“How did that happen?” Tae Min wrapped an arm around Nicki’s shoulders.

“I don’t know either, but looks like you have a date with me tonight.” Nicki just smiled.

“That’s not too bad.”

That evening, Nicki looked like a shining star. Minho and Key could only just stare.

“I’m scared that we’re going to lose our sister tonight.” Nicki smiled.

“What do you mean? You two will always be my best friends. I’m just getting myself a boyfriend.” Key stood up and hugged her.

“My baby sister…”

“Aigoo! I’m not a baby.” There was knock on the door and Minho went to go open it.

“Nicki, you’re boyfriend is here.”

“Yah!”

“Isn’t that what you said.” Tae Min just stood there smiling. Nicki joined him.

“I’ll see you both later then.” She waved and followed Tae Min out. The car surprised her.

“Wah! Can you even drive?”

“No. I hired one.” Nicki smiled remembering their first actual conversation.

“Trying to impress me, I see.” Tae Min laughed.

“I guess so.” They got in the car and left for their date. The dinner they had went great. There was much to talk about. An hour passed before they decided to leave. Before Tae Min could open the door, Nicki stopped him.

“What? You want to walk home then?” Nick nodded. Tae Min just smiled. He paid the driver and sent him off.

“Alright! Let’s go.” They were walking down the street, stopping in on little shops. As they were nearing Nicki’s house, Nicki grabbed Tae Min’s hand.

“Is there something else?” Nicki just smiled.

“No. I was just wondering…”

“Wondering what?”

“What it would be like if we were really dating.” Tae Min laughed.

“Then why not make it a reality?”

“Should we?” Tae Min stopped and looked at Nicki.

“If you’re not serious, then don’t lead me on.” Nicki laughed.

“Tae Min, I thought you knew me well. How long was it going to take you before you realized that I liked you.” Tae Min hugged Nicki, causing her to jump in shock.

“Thank you! Thank you so much!” Nicki couldn’t help but laugh.

“Thank you for letting me to be able to trust you again by staying true.” Tae Min put Nicki back on the ground and gave her a quick kiss on the lips.

“Yah!” Tae Min just smiled and entangled his fingers with hers.

“Let’s go to your house before Key and Minho refuse to let me see you again.” Nicki just smiled.

“Are you scared of my brothers?” Tae Min smiled.

“No. But just for you, I’m willing to wait my entire life for you to tell me that you love me.” Nicki smiled and leaned her head on his shoulder.

“Remember it then. But I don’t think you’d have to wait that long.” Tae Min smiled.

[Just for you, I’ll do anything.]
