⬻Chapter XXXV: Hotel⤖
My Mysterious Boss┍━━━━ ⋆⋅☆⋅⋆ ━━━━┑
Who the hell is he? Did they come together?
Hajoon thought, slowly turning his head to look at you.
“Who is he?”
“Him?” you asked, making eye contact with him.
•• ━━━━━ ••●•• ━━━━━ ••
The man walked over, looking at Hajoon and giving him a smile, before he turned to look at you.
Hajoon wore his stern look; some may even say a protective look.
“I see you found a ride,” Minhyuk chuckled.
“Ah yes.”
Minhyuk noticed your arm around Hajoon’s shoulder and the handkerchief around your elbow.
“Is everything alright?” He had a concerned look.
“I tripped…during my hike,” you chuckled, slightly embarrassed.
“Did you need a hand?”
“It’s fine. I got her,” Hajoon answered, staring down at Minhyuk.
His hand around your waist pulled you closer to him.
Th-thump. Th-thump. Th-thump.
You looked at him, your heart racing again, though puzzled with his attitude.
Minhyuk turned his attention to him, giving him a nod, acknowledging Hajoon’s answer.
“Excuse us.”
Before you could even wish Minhyuk a proper goodbye, Hajoon turned you around, both walking towards to the elevator.
You looked over your shoulder at Minhyuk with a slight struggle.
“Have a good night, Minhyuk-shi!” You yelled out.
He gave you a smile and wave.
•• ━━━━━ ••●•• ━━━━━ ••
“You still haven’t answered my question,” Hajoon said, your arm still around his shoulder, as you two stood together in the elevator.
“Actually, I just met him today.”
“Today?”
You nodded, wondering if he had a problem with it.
“What’s his name, again?”
“Minhyuk-shi.”
“Last name?”
You thought for a second.
“I…don’t know his last name.”
Hajoon gave you a disappointing look.
“What?”
“You should be smart. Don’t just hang around with strangers you just met.”
You rolled your eyes at his advice.
•• ━━━━━ ••●•• ━━━━━ ••
Hajoon gently placed you on the couch.
“Thank you, Hajoon!” you smiled, looking up at him.
“Don’t mention it.”
“THANK YOU, HAJOON-AH!” you said a little louder, as he walked to the kitchen area.
You examined your ankle, realizing it was getting worse.
Hajoon sat on the floor, setting the bowl of ice next to him.
“Put your foot here,” he patted his lap.
You looked at him, surprised by his order.
“H-huh?”
He gently lifted your leg, placing your foot on his lap, spectating the injury.
You sat there, drifted away in your own thoughts.
“It looks like you sprained your ankle,” Hajoon commented, as he placed some ice in a hand towel.
“Hopefully, this helps,” he looked up, as he placed the iced towel on your swollen ankle.
You were too mesmerized; you didn’t even hear a single word he said.
Th-thump. Th-thump. Th-thump.
Hajoon felt.
Wait, what am I doing?
He thought.
He cleared his throat.
“Put some pressure on it. Hopefully, it gets a little better tomorrow.”
Hajoon stood up, breaking you out of your daydream.
“Excuse me.”
You quickly bowed.
“Thank you, Hajoon-ah.”
•• ━━━━━ ••●•• ━━━━━ ••
Hajoon stood outside of your room.
What’s going on with me?
He wondered.
Just as he was about to make his way to the elevator, he looked down the hallway.
Wait, this is my floor.
He looked at your room number, 089.
He looked over at the next door, 090.
090. Of course.
He sighed.
•• ━━━━━ ••●•• ━━━━━ ••
You sat there, the iced towel pressed against your ankle; your eyes fixed on the pattern on the carpet.
No, it’s nothing. We’re just friends looking out for each other.
You denied.
It wasn’t abnormal for a friend to look out for another.
Most importantly, you two were partners in serious business.
He doesn’t feel the same,--------.
•• ━━━━━ ••●•• ━━━━━ ••
You limped to the bathroom.
“Aish, I totally wasted this trip,” you frowned as you washed your hands.
With a swollen ankle, you knew you weren’t going to get anywhere far on the island.
Just as you were about to leave the bathroom, his handkerchief caught your eyes with its reflection on the mirror.
You looked down at your elbow.
Your lips curved into a smile.
You took off his handkerchief, examining the wounded area.
You frowned; your eyes filled with tears.
Taking a deep breath, you gently rubbed the area, washing the dried blood off.
•• ━━━━━ ••●•• ━━━━━ ••
You limped to the kitchen area, holding a few tissues over your elbow.
“Maybe there’s none,” you whispered, searching for a first aid kit in one of the cabinets.
“Only for emergencies.”
You heard him.
“This is an emergency,” you said aloud.
You limped back to the living room, grabbing your fanny pack off the couch, searching for your phone.
“Did I drop it in the forest?”
You panicked, frantically looking for your phone in your bag again.
You searched your pockets.
“Omo,” you facepalmed, “did I really drop my phone?”
“AISHHH! I can’t go back there with this foot.”
Knock! Knock! Knock!
You peeked over.
“Who is it?” you whispered.
You limped to the front and opened the door, peeking your head out through the small gap.
“Hajoon!” You smiled, opening the door wider.
“What are you doing here?”
He held up your phone.
“Omo,” your eyes widened,” where did you find it?”
You grabbed it out of his grasp.
“You dropped it in my car.”
“I was so worried that I dropped it in the forest. Thank you so much!”
“You should rest up,” he suggested.
“Wait! I know this is a lot to ask, but could you possibly run to store and grab me a first aid kit?” you shyly plead.
You felt your cheeks heating up and an instant regret.
“You’re asking me?” Hajoon pointed at himself.
You looked left and right down the halls and then back at him.
“Yes!”
Hajoon stood there, reactionless.
“Please, Mr. Hajoon-shi,” you addressed, formally, and bowed.
He thought to himself for a second before sharply sighing.
“Thank you so much!” You smiled.
Before Hajoon could leave, you stopped him once again.
“Oh wait!”
You quickly limped to the living room, grabbing one of the spare cards.
Then, you limped back to him, handing him the card.
“Just scan yourself in,” you said, “my foot hurts, so I may be slow.”
•• ━━━━━ ••●•• ━━━━━ ••
I should take a shower while I wait.
You thought.
•• ━━━━━ ••●•• ━━━━━ ••
You looked around the bathroom, as you have not realized how big the bathroom was.
Wowww!!
Your eyes gleamed.
The bathroom was a little too big for you.
You limped to the shower, where a TV was mounted into the wall.
“Omo, how is this even possible?” you were amazed by the technology in the room.
You Yoo Seungwoo: 45.7cm.
“Ah, this is so nice!” you smiled, as the song played in the background.
You got in the shower, gently cleaning the wounded area on your elbow first.
“Shimshumhal ttae yeonrakhae
keopi han janeun okay
neujeun shigan sul han janeun an dwae
gakkeum jeonhwaneun okay
yeongsangtonghwaneun no thanks
amuraedo eosaekhaeseo mothae”
You sung aloud, as you continue to soak yourself in the shower.
•• ━━━━━ ••●•• ━━━━━ ••
Hajoon scanned the card, opening your front door.
He scanned the living room, but no signs of you, as he carried a bag in his right hand.
Did she leave with that guy?
He thought.
Just as he was about to leave, he listened carefully.
“Urideul saien uri dulman moreuge
geueojin seon gateun ge itna bwa
chingura hagien
deo gakkaun geot gateunde
urin geo seon wie seoitna bwa”
He smiled, listening to your singing.
He set the bag on the table, before walking out to the balcony.
He looked at the view.
Ring! Ring! Ring!
“Boss, the meeting is set for Saturday night.”
“Thanks.”
He ended the call, sharply sighing, feeling the world on his shoulder.
•• ━━━━━ ••●•• ━━━━━ ••
“That was a good shower.”
You wrapped your hair in white towel that perfectly complimented with the white towel around your body.
“Refreshed and cleaned,” you commented, wiping off the fog on the mirror.
You limped out of the bathroom, closing the door behind you.
You sat on the couch, looking at your ankle.
It didn’t look any better.
I wonder if he’s back yet.
You thought, turning on the TV.
•• ━━━━━ ••●•• ━━━━━ ••
Hajoon inserted his phone in his pocket, making his way back into the room, closing the door behind him.
You looked over your shoulder, noticing the sound.
You both made eye contact.
It took you a few seconds to realize that you had nothing underneath the towel.
“AHHHHHHHHHHH!”
You scrambled to get up from the couch, only to result you falling to the floor.
Hajoon’s cheeks flushed pink seeing you in a towel.
“YAH! WHEN DID YOU GET IN?” you yelled out, as you peeked your head behind the couch, tightly holding onto your towel.
Hajoon quickly turned around.
“Why aren’t you clothed?” he asked, not knowing what to do, flustered.
“Why didn’t you knock?”
“You’re the one who gave me the key to your room.”
You thought for a second.
Aish, I did give it to him!
You facepalmed.
“Stay right there and don’t look.”
You kept your eyes on him, as you slowly got up from the floor.
You limped to the bedroom, opening your bag, and frantically searching for your pajamas.
•• ━━━━━ ••●•• ━━━━━ ••
You peeked your head out, seeing Hajoon in the same position as before.
You cleared your throat, covering yourself with your bathrobe.
He turned to look at you.
•• ━━━━━ ••●•• ━━━━━ ••
You plopped down on the couch, noticing the bag just then.
He sat down on the other couch.
“Thank you,” you smiled.
“You owe me.”
You furrowed your brows, thinking about how petty he was getting.
•• ━━━━━ ••●•• ━━━━━ ••
“Aish.”
You were annoyed, the blood had gotten on your pajama sleeve.
“How careless.”
You annoyingly side-eyeing him.
“What did you say?”
“You’re careless,” he repeated.
“I’m not in the mood to argue with you. Thank you for buying me this kit. You can go wherever you please,” you said to him, before looking at your wound again.
Hajoon sighed, walking over and sitting next to you.
“Let me see.”
You timidly looked at him.
Every time he spoke, he had that…power to make time stop, at least to you.
“This is going to sting,” he warned, as he soaked some rubbing alcohol onto a cotton pad.
You kept your eyes close on him. Your stomach tingled, when he glanced up.
“Did you hear me?”
“Huh?” you were still daydreaming.
“This is going to sting,” he repeated, as he gently pressed the wipe onto your wound.
You snapped out, closing your eyes and squeezing your hand.
“Why didn’t you warn me?” you asked, holding back your tears.
“I did. Weren’t you listening?”
He threw the pad away, grabbing the ointment and gauze from the bag.
You opened one eye looking at your wound.
You took a deep breath, not realizing how painful it was.
He applied the ointment on your open wound with a cotton swab.
You stared at him, carefully. He was so focused and…handsome.
“This should do. Change it tomorrow morning,” he said, stuffing the ointment and gauze back in the bag.
“Dreamy,” you whispered.
Hajoon looked over his shoulder.
“What did you say?”
Your eyes widened, mortified that what you were thinking came out.
“Thank you,” you quickly corrected.
Hajoon took a glimpse of your ankle.
“How’s your ankle? Did you apply ice like I said?”
“I did. For a few minutes.”
Hajoon took out another ointment from the bag, handing it to you.
“Try this.”
You took the cream, reading the brand.
This is expensive!
“Hajoon-ah, you didn’t have to buy this,” you scratched the back of your head.
“I can’t have my partner limping around.”
You chuckled and rolling your eyes.
“Well, my job is done here. Enjoy your stay.”
Just as Hajoon got up, you stopped him.
“Have you eaten?”
•• ━━━━━ ••●•• ━━━━━ ••
Knock, knock, knock!
“I got it!” You told him, signaling to him sit back down.
“Are you sure?” Hajoon looked concern.
Thankfully, with skills, you made it to the door without any problems.
“Thank you,” you smiled and bowed, grabbing the bags from the delivery man.
You turned around and held up the bags of food to Hajoon.
“I got it!” you felt proud.
•• ━━━━━ ••●•• ━━━━━ ••
Hajoon followed you into the kitchen, where there was a small dining area with a view of the Jeju beach.
“You’re okay with Korean, right?” You took the food out from the bag.
“I’m Korean,” he looked at you.
“No, you’re Korean-American,” you replied.
You caught yourself.
Have I mentioned to her about the States?
Hajoon wondered.
“What else do you know about me?” He looked at you curiously.
You panicked, feeling your heart rate increase, seeing that he wasn’t the Hajoon a few seconds ago.
“Nothing,” you looked away, carefully taking out the soup from the bag.
“How do you know about that?”
“In my defense, I didn’t do any background check on you, okay? Soohyuk told me.”
“What else did he say?”
“He just told me that you moved to the States when you were younger.”
“That’s all?” He raised a brow.
You nodded your head, hoping that he would stop questioning you.
Hajoon kept his eyes on you, pulling out the chair.
You felt his stares
“I don’t know anything about you. It really is just that,” you confessed.
“I didn’t say anything.”
“Well, please take this meal as my gratitude to you for helping me and treating my wounds,” you shyly thanked.
“Accepted,” he responded.
You gave him a smile.
“Does that mean I still owe you?”
“Yes.”
Why did everything feel so right to you? Did he feel the same way?
•• ━━━━━ ••●•• ━━━━━ ••
You stood by the door and bowed.
“Thank you for today, Hajoon. I really appreciate it,” you smiled.
“Be more careful next time.”
“Yes, Boss!” you chuckled.
“Have a good night and get to your room safely.”
“Call me if you need anything.”
Th-thump. Th-thump. Th-thump.
You held your breath, giving him a nod.
You closed the door, leaning your back against the door, placing your hand on over your heart.
You felt your cheeks heating up.
Do I really like him?
You asked yourself.
•• ━━━━━ ••●•• ━━━━━ ••
Hajoon stood in front of your door.
He smiled, not realizing he was.
•• ━━━━━ ••●•• ━━━━━ ••
You broke out of your thoughts, hearing your phone ring.
“Eunwoo-ah.”
“--------, where are you?” Eunwoo asked, worriedly on the line.
“Is everything okay?”
“Ahjumma said you went on a trip. Who did you go with? Where are you?”
“Don’t worry about me. I just went to a small trip.”
“With who?”
“I went alone.”
“Where?”
“Jeju Island.”
“Jeju Island? I will be there.”
“Eunwoo-ah, don’t worry! I’m coming home soon. Don’t waste your savings. I’m fine.”
“Are you sure?”
“Yes! Don’t worry. I’ll be home Sunday morning.”
Eunwoo sighed.
“Be careful, okay? Call me if anything comes up.”
“Yes! Don’t worry, okay? Good night!”
“Sleep well.”
•• ━━━━━ ••●•• ━━━━━ ••
Eunwoo ended the call.
He moved the curtain to one side, looking at your small home which stood at the end of the street.
He placed his phone to his ear again, making another call.
“She’s not home. I’m moving in.”
•• ━━━━━ ••●•• ━━━━━ ••
You tossed in bed, from one side to another.
Staring at the ceiling, your mind slowly drifted to Hajoon again.
“Should…I text him?”
You reached for your phone on the night stand, highlighting his name.
You: Are you sleeping? 11:20PM/23:20
You read the question over and over.
No, this sounds like I’m interested.
You erased the text.
You: Did you get to your room safely? 11:21PM/23:21
You read your text.
Sounds a bit better.
Aish, I really did it.
You cringed, placing the phone on the stand, before burying your face in the pillows.
•• ━━━━━ ••●•• ━━━━━ ••
Hajoon stared at the ceiling, thinking back to the meeting.
He sighed, closing his eyes.
Ding!
His eyes opened, looking over at the nightstand where his phone rested.
He reached for the phone, opening the notification.
You: Did you get to your room safely? 11:21PM/23:21
He read.
What does she want?
Hajoon thought.
The suspicion he had on you came back.
“What else does Soohyuk know?”
Hajoon: Is this an emergency? 11:24PM/23:24
•• ━━━━━ ••●•• ━━━━━ ••
You popped your head after hearing the notification.
You smiled.
“Is this an emergency?” you read aloud.
“Aish, this man.”
You: Does it have to be an emergency? 11:26PM/ 23:26
Hajoon: Yes. 11:27PM/23:27
Hajoon smiled, sending the text.
He set his phone on the nightstand, turning the other side.
After 10 minutes, he was anticipating for your text.
He reached for his phone, looking at the notification bar, but nothing new.
Hajoon: Is it an emergency? 11:37PM/ 23:37
He sent it.
•• ━━━━━ ••●•• ━━━━━ ••
You read his message aloud.
“Is it an emergency?”
You: I just wanted to say good night. 11:38PM/23:38
Hajoon smiled, reading the text.
Hajoon: Okay. 11:38PM/23:38
You: Good night, Hajoon! Sleep well. Again, thank you for today😊 11:40PM/ 23:40
He thought for a second.
Hajoon: Sweet dreams. 11:45PM/23:45
•• ━━━━━ ••●•• ━━━━━ ••
Feeling guilty, Eunwoo had to do what he had to.
It was his mission this whole time.
He scanned the neighborhood before entering your home from the back.
He didn’t necessarily know what he was looking for.
Though, he knew that you had to have something important.
He closed the door quietly, scanning the living room from his view.
“I’m in,” Eunwoo said, with an earpiece in.
“Be careful.”
Eunwoo clicked the button, turning on the flashlight.
He slowly scanned the bookshelf that was in the living room, searching through your movie collection.
“There’s nothing in the living room. I’m moving into the main bedroom,” Eunwoo said, pressing his earpiece.
•• ━━━━━ ••●•• ━━━━━ ••
Ding!
Hajoon’s eyes shot open. He looked at the notification on his cell phone.
Sound detected.
Hajoon read.
He quickly opened the app, turning up the volume.
“There’s nothing in the living room. I’m moving into the main bedroom.”
Who is it?
Hajoon thought.
•• ━━━━━ ••●•• ━━━━━ ••
Eunwoo flashed the light on your desk, slowly scanning the area.
He smiled when he saw a picture of you.
He picked up the framed photo; his smile faded when he realized what he was doing to you.
“Nothing on the desk,” he reported, focusing on his mission again.
Eunwoo turned around only to stop half way when he noticed a poster board hiding behind the door.
He furrowed his brows, curiously.
He moved the door, revealing your investigation board.
Pictures. Red yarns around the board. Sticky notes with information.
Eunwoo’s eyes widened, stunned and clueless.
What’s this?
