⬻Chapter XXXIII: Dinner⤖

My Mysterious Boss

┍━━━━ ⋆⋅☆⋅⋆ ━━━━┑

You leaned your head on the window, looking at the city.
Jung Hae In's words replayed in your head.
A dangerous person?
You thought.
You glanced in the bag, looking at his blazer.
Can this blazer tell me everything about you?
•• ━━━━━ ••●•• ━━━━━ ••
You hopped off the bus.
"---------shi."
You looked over your shoulder, revealing the man you were thinking about.
You bowed, giving him a confused look, then Jung Hae In’s words replayed in your head.
You tried calming yourself.
"Mr. Hajoon-shi, what are you doing here?" You took a few steps towards him, acting as normal as possible.
"We're partners. Shouldn't we be working?" He asked, inserting one hand in his pocket.
Th-thump.  Th-thump. Th-thump.
You felt the palpitations kicking in, ignoring it though.
"Um, I haven't been at the Lee's residency, so I have nothing to report to you.”
That part was true. Just as the other girls told you, hours were reduced and only selected employees were allowed on the premises.
"Okay? We can work on other things," Hajoon said.
"Like...what?"
•• ━━━━━ ••●•• ━━━━━ ••
"What does this have to do with the Lee’s?"
You looked over at him, standing in front of the biggest mall in Seoul.
Hajoon walked in first, leaving you behind.
"W-wait, Mr. Hajoon-shi!" You yelled out, walking fast to catch up to him.
Hajoon looked over his shoulder, and then he turned back; his lips curved into a smile.
•• ━━━━━ ••●•• ━━━━━ ••
You stood behind Hajoon, as he looked over at a section of clothes.
You glanced at what he was looking at.
Your eyes slightly widened, thinking you broke down one of his secrets.
Who is this woman? Is it his girlfriend? WIFE?
Hajoon grabbed a pastel blue blouse off from the section, turned around to face you, handing you the hanger.
"What are you doing?" you asked.
"Try it on," Hajoon instructed.
Your eyes widened out of confusion and surprise.
"What?!"
"What’s wrong?" he asked, once again, gesturing you to take the blouse.
You slowly took the hanger, as he continued to look at the other selection of clothes.
You held onto the hanger, glancing at the blouse. It was too beautiful for you to try it out.
•• ━━━━━ ••●•• ━━━━━ ••
"Excuse me, Mr. Hajoon-shi."
Hajoon looked over his shoulder.
"Am I getting paid for this? I didn't sign up for this. I'm your partner, remember? Not whatever this is," you told him, making it clear that you were only going to stick what you were paid to do.
He ignored you.
You deeply sighed, given his attitude.
What's gotten into him?
You thought.
•• ━━━━━ ••●•• ━━━━━ ••

Before you knew it, you were holding a good handful of blouses, skirts, and pants.
"Please assist her," Hajoon asked one of the sales associates.
You were clearly confused by what he was instructing.
The first outfit the lady styled was a beige pants paired with a camel-colored V-neck blouse.
You slipped on a pair of camel-colored heels.
You looked at your reflection and smiled.
You never thought you'd look so nice, even a little shocked.
"Are you ready?" the woman knocked.
You snapped out and opened the door.
"Does it look okay?" You asked, giving her one twirl.
"Don't you want your boyfriend to see?”
Th-thump. Th-thump. Th-thump.
It was that feeling again.
"We...we are not boyfriend and girlfriend," you shyly corrected.
"My apologies," she bowed.
"It's okay," you laughed.
"Why don't you step out?"
"If you think it looks good, I'll let him know."
She grabbed your hand, pulling you out of the fitting room.
Hajoon stood in the waiting area, looking at some scarves that was hung on the wall.
Hajoon took a step back, looking towards the fitting area, as he heard the commotion.

Th-thump. Th-thump. Th-thump.
There was something about his presence.
Hajoon walked up you.
"The clothes look okay?"
You had to say something to get the nervousness out.
If you were able to joke about it, you'd feel better, and hopefully the feelings would go away.

Hajoon scanned the outfit.
He nodded his head to your question.
“Good,” you smiled, “I’ll go change now.”
Just as you were about to walk back to the fitting room, Hajoon grabbed your arm stopping you.
“Is there someth---”
Before you could finish your question, Hajoon unclipped your hair, letting your natural curls free.

You stood there, paralyzed.
Th-thump. Th-thump. Th-thump.
Th-thump. Th-thump. Th-thump.
Th-thump. Th-thump. Th-thump.

"That's better," Hajoon said.
You couldn't look at him in the eyes.
"I'll...go and…uhm… try the other ones," you replied.
You quickly closed the door and leaned your back against the door.
You placed your hand on your chest, feeling the palpitations.
No. It's nothing. Absolutely nothing.
You denied.
•• ━━━━━ ••●•• ━━━━━ ••

You grabbed the five bags, trailing behind him.
"Mr. Hajoon-shi," you called, gaining his attention.
"Are these clothes for a… special girl?" You asked, being the nosy you.
There was always to perfect chance to interrogate him.
Hajoon ignored your question.
"You brought me to model them, right?"
He ignored again.
"I see. These are supposed to be a secret for her, right? Are you guys celebrating an anniver-----"
"They're for you."
You stopped, furrowing your brows in confusion.
"What?"
Hajoon stopped and looked at you.
"If you're working for me, it'd be better to dress a little more...business-like."
"I'm not working FOR you, I'm working WITH you," you corrected him, slightly rolling your eyes, playfully.
"Anyway, I can't accept these. We should go back and refund them.”
Hajoon grabbed your arm, preventing you from walking back.
"Take it as a gift for our...partnership."
You were puzzled.
You didn’t know if he was buying it for you sincerely, or did he have other plans?

You pushed your feelings and questions aside. There was no time to be feeling in any way.
There was only questions for him and who he was.
“Mr. Hajoon-shi.”
He waited for your question.
“Are…you okay?”
Hajoon, realizing what he had become, cleared his throat.
“What do you mean?”
You took a long pause before answering him.
“..nothing.”
You looked at the bag.
“Thank you,” you shyly thanked.

During the walk to his car, you were deep in your thoughts.
You trailed behind him, thinking about Jung Hae In’s words. You looked at him, his back.
…dangerous person.”
It was those words again.
You stood by the passenger’s side, while he was about to open his side.
“Mr. Hajoon-shi.”
He looked up.
“I can take the bus home, or catch a cab.”
“Why? I can dro---”
“It’s nothing. I’d hate to be a bother if there’s no businesses,” you interrupted.
You bowed before taking your leave.
He raised his hand to stop you, but you were already too far away from him.
•• ━━━━━ ••●•• ━━━━━ ••
“Ahjumma, were you busy this morning?” you asked, as you were helping her wipe the tables.
“It was okay. Eunwoo stopped by to help me this morning,” she smiled.
Eunwoo.
The last time you two spoke, it ended a little heated. You hesitated for a second.
“…how is Eunwoo?”
“He’s fine. Why?”
“Nothing. He’s been busy, so I haven’t seen him a while, that’s all.”

You stopped the circular motion of wiping the table.
You had to find answers to your “sickness.” The “sickness” that only happened when Hajoon was around.
“Ahjumma.”
You caught her attention.
“Yes?” She smiled.
“I…uhm…I have this friend,”
She nodded along to your exchange, as she walked over to the table you were wiping.
“This friend told me recently how she feels nervous…and…uhm…she…she,”
You couldn’t quite finish your thoughts.
Even talking about him was making you nervous as you felt your heart beating quickly.
Maybe, even, a few sweats rolling down your back.
“Butterflies in her stomach?” the ahjumma questioned.
Your eyes widened, a little surprised that she finished what you were trying to say.
“Ah, yes. And, she gets nervous when he’s around,” you finished.
“So, what are you asking?”
“Do you know what that means?”
“It means she likes him,” she chuckled.
Your eyes widened in confusion. You weren’t expecting that answer.
“Like him?! Like, like like him?!” You exclaimed.
“That’s how it feels when someone is in love. You get butterflies. Your heart beats fast when that special person is around. You always want to be around them. You always search for them. It’s just a wave of happiness and excitement and nervousness when they’re around,” the ahjumma explained.
No, there’s no possible way! NOPE. NOPE. NOPE.
You continued to deny that fact.
The ahjumma grabbed your hand, snapping you out of your thoughts.
“Do you like Eunwoo?” she asked.
•• ━━━━━ ••●•• ━━━━━ ••
Eunwoo stopped upon hearing his name.
He smiled, accidentally hearing the conversation.
“Ahjumma, don’t tell anyone, okay?” you begged.
•• ━━━━━ ••●•• ━━━━━ ••

Knock. Knock. Knock.

You and the ahjumma turned to look at the entrance, thinking that it was a customer.
“Eunwoo-ah!” the ahjumma called out.
You straightened your back, while the ahjumma walked to the entrance to give him a hug.
Eunwoo hugged the ahjumma, though keeping eye contact with you.
You knew the tension between you two were not the best given that last conversation.
•• ━━━━━ ••●•• ━━━━━ ••

You and Eunwoo stood next to each other, looking out to the lake that was near the neighborhood.
“How are you?” You finally asked.
Eunwoo turned to look at you.
“Been better. How about yourself?”
You felt a sense of guilt about the last time you two spoke to each other.
“You know, that talk last time, I’m sorry.”
He stayed quiet.
“I’m really sorry for raising my voice at you.”.
“No, you said nothing wrong. I should have known my boundaries,” Eunwoo replied.
“I know you were just trying to look out for me, and I overreacted.”
“It’s really okay. I’m sorry for getting into your private life.”
You nodded, understanding him.

“Are you busy tonight? Maybe we should catch up during dinner,” Eunwoo suggested.
“Actually, I have plans tonight,” you half lied. Truth was like ahjumma had stated earlier, you wanted to see him, even though you just met him yesterday.
“There’s always another time,” he smiled.
•• ━━━━━ ••●•• ━━━━━ ••

You looked at the black box that was wrapped with a velvet red ribbon.
You took out your phone and highlighted his name.
You heard his voice in your head.
“Only for emergencies..”
You closed your phone, sighing.
You tapped your heel on the floor, looking at your phone, contemplating if you were going to make that call.
Just do it!
You encouraged yourself.
You gave it another second or so, before picking the phone up.
Before you realized, your thumb had pressed the call button, highlighting his name.
Your breathing fastened.
“Oh my God, am I really doing it?” you whispered to yourself.

“Hello?”
His voice.
It sounded so comforting in a way.
You swallowed your saliva, trying to think what you were going to say to him.
Don’t be scared of him. Don’t be scared.
“Hello?” he repeated.
“Mr. Hajoon-shi,” you managed to say.
“Park --------shi. Is this an emergency?”
“Huh?”
“I thought calls were for emergencies only.”
“Are you busy tonight?”
“Why?”
“Would you be available to come over for dinner? I…bought too much things for dinner and thought I could share it with a … friend.”
There was a short pause.
“What time?”
“Great!” you smiled, “6PM/18:00.”
With no byes from him, all you heard was a beep.
You smiled to yourself, in a way, celebrating that he would be over for dinner, but somewhat nervous as well.
You quickly tidied your home and began working straight away with dinner.
You were going to go with a classic Korean barbeque.
“Okay, I got everything,” you said, wiping your hands with a towel, looking at the table you set up.
Knock. Knock. Knock.
You jumped, startled by the sudden knock.
You looked at the clock, and it read exactly 6PM/18:00.
Right on time too.
You thought.
•• ━━━━━ ••●•• ━━━━━ ••

You stood in front of the door, fidgeting with your fingers.
“Open the door,” you whispered to yourself.
Your heart began pacing faster.
The butterflies were slowly coming out, something that you couldn’t control.
“I shouldn’t have invited him,” you regretted, as you closed your eyes, head down.
You took a deep breath.
I will be fine. It’s not like this is his first time here. He’s not going to do anything to me.
You thought.
You lifted your head, only for your forehead to meet contact with your front door, before falling hard on your bottom.

“Park -------shi?”
You rubbed your head, looking up to see him, peeking inside by the door.
“O-oh, Mr. Hajoon-shi,” you stuttered. Hajoon opened the door wider.
Before you could help yourself up, Hajoon had done it faster than you.
He grabbed your arm, pulling you up.
You felt that electric shock; something you’ve felt before.
“Are you okay?” He asked.
You stood there for a second, paralyzed. Too much was happening for your brain to process.
He looked at you, while you were out.
“Hello?” he asked, waving his hand in front of you, releasing his hand from your arm.
You snapped back and looked at him, seeing how close he was to you.
“Are you okay?” He repeated.

You tried taking a step back, only to stumble on a shoe behind you. Thankfully, catching yourself, you saved yourself from embarrassment.
On the other hand, Hajoon had his hand out ready to reach for you again.

“Please sit over here,” you instructed, leading him to the dinner table.
“I can take your coat.”
He took it off and handed it to you.
Hajoon scanned around your home, while you walked to the closet.
Black box.
Hajoon thought.
Where would  she place that box?
He wondered.
You closed the closet and walked to the table, to see him wondering around.
“The house is still the same,” you chuckled, surprising him.
“I wasn’t expecting anything,” he neatly cover his suspicion.
“Anyway, I hope you’re okay with a barbeque.”
“Anything’s fine, really.”
•• ━━━━━ ••●•• ━━━━━ ••
“So, what’s with the sudden dinner invitation?”
You looked up from your plate.
“Didn’t you hear what I said on the call? I just had too much, so I thought I’d invite you.”
“You have Haein-shi and Eunwoo-shi. Why didn’t you invite them?” He asked, taking a bite of the kimchi on the side.
You bit your bottom lip, thinking about what your next response was.
“They…were busy,” you lied.
“Have you found anything else about Soohyuk and his parents?” Hajoon suddenly asked.
“No. I haven’t been working there for a while now. They cut the hours down, so I can only go in when they call.”
Hajoon was a little disappointed. He wanted the case to close, so he could return home. Back in the states.
“I heard that you went to lunch with Soohyuk last week or something,” Hajoon began.
“Nothing happened,” you quickly replied.
“I don’t care if anything happened. Did he say anything regarding to his mom?”
You blushed, embarrassed that you assumed too quick.
“No, we spoke about nature.”
He felt relieved, almost celebrating that nothing happened between you two.
•• ━━━━━ ••●•• ━━━━━ ••

You bowed once more to him, walking him out.
“Thank you for coming over for dinner,” you smiled.
“Thanks for the invite."
“Get… home safely,” you wished, “wherever your home is.”
You were trying to get some information on where he lived.
“Thank you?” he questioned.
He walked to his car, opening the back door.
You watched him from the porch, as he pulled out a box of those coffee pouches, vanilla macchiato.
He walked over to you and handed you the box.
“What’s this?” you asked, accepting the case in your arms.
“I ordered the wrong ones. I thought you'd want it,” he lied.
It was meant for you.
"Thank you," you smiled.

The box!

You remembered.
“Mr. Hajoon-shi, wait here!”
Hajoon stood there, confused, as he watched you run back inside the house.

You ran back outside, with the black box in your hand.
Hajoon looked at you, as you handed him the black box.
She’s going to give me the black box, just like that?
Hajoon was puzzled.
He thought you forgot that night when you told him about the black box.
“What’s this?” He asked, accepting the box.
This was what he was looking for.
“A gift for our partnership,” you smiled.
“Thank you,” Hajoon said, before walking back to his car.
“Have a good night, Mr. Hajoon-shi.”

He looked over his shoulder.

“Hajoon is fine.”

Chapter 40: Ah, so that's how those two take care of that ending from the previous chapter? But what did she mean by she didn't want him to blurt it out like that to Eunwoo? I couldn't recall which incident she was referring to. Other than that, Ha Joon getting jealous of her having lunch with Soo Hyuk and then taking up on his offer to drive her home and also, when he thought she was dating Eunwoo. But did he offer to take her home and she rejected him? He was kinda salty when he said something along the line of 'you take up his offer but reject mine?'. And once again what's with this chapter's ending as well? It's illegal to leave us on a note like that. Now what's that bracelet and how does he recognise it? And what did Ha Joon do this time? Surely she can't be his ex and all, unless she was abroad as well. Nonetheless, I can't wait to read more. Will be eagerly waiting for the next update ^^

Chapter 39: Ooh... You didn't bring the twist I was expecting from the ending of the previous chapter. And talking about endings, what is even Ha Joon thinking confronting Eunwoo like that here? How is he gonna justify his reason for knowing that? Regardless, I had fun reading this chapter. Those two showing attitude to each other, then caring about each other secretly... I can't wait to read more. Will be eagerly waiting for the next update ^^

Chapter 38: I'm not gonna get fooled by your ending. I'm sure he's gonna something along the line, who will spy for him and he's in need of a trustworthy partner or so. LoL... But that's a pretty good ending for the chapter. I'll give you that. You almost got me. Anyway, those two were really good this whole chapter. Like her, I'm gonna miss those two being on holiday. Since they can't be this free back home with their job hierarchy. Also, I cracked up hard when she retorted 'In this hotel room?' to his ' I'm your boss' comment XD can't wait to read more. Will be waiting for the next update ^^

Chapter 37: Their vacation is getting over? So soon? Noooooo... I mean it was fun seeing them flirt and spend time together without their status or something holding them back. It was sweet and a bit funny how they ordered food for each other and then acted like they can eat all that by themselves. And will they be having a double date somewhere later in the story with Minhyuk and his girlfriend? Also, that ending though! How are they both gonna escape the guys who have come in search of him? Can't wait to read more. Will be eagerly waiting for the next update ^^

Chapter 36: So Eunwoo hasn't found the box yet, right? I mean since he got interrupted by Haein while searching for it. Also, wonder why Ha Joon is keeping an eye on her as well... And definitely enjoyed reading those two's interaction in the island. I laughed out loud when she asked him if older women was his type and was going to introduce her friend to him. Oh, I totally forgot about her admitting her feelings for him, even though it was just to herself. Now when's Ha Joon gonna realise his own? Also, she gotta stop following people blindly especially when it involves secluded place and warehouses. When is she gonna learn her lesson? Anyway, thanks for the longer update. can't wait to read more. Will be eagerly waiting for the next update ^^

PS New Year wishes to you as well. Wish you the best!

Chapter 35: That ending though! I mean will Ha Joon recognise whose voice it is? And does she have notes on Eunwoo too on that board? I don't seem to remember... Regardless, this chapter was a fun read, especially the interactions between her and Ha Joon. And I'm still wondering about this Minhyuk guy. LoL... Anyway, can't wait to read more. Hope to see an update soon ^^

Chapter 34: LoL... You definitely got us in the last chapter! I still can't believe it wasn't the same black box that he was looking for. Wah, you fooled me completely! Anyway, coming to the chapter, I didn't know such a hotel existed in Jeju. Not that I know of all the hotels there. Nonetheless, I wasn't expecting a hotel with the name 'Ramada' in Korea but now I know, thanks to you and Google. LoL.. also, can't believe Ha Joon really killed someone in this chapter. Not sure why that came as a shock to me though. Also, that nice guy named Minhyuk, is he one of your OCs or is he one of those idols with the real name Minhyuk? I'm really curious. Also, his mother doesn't know about his girlfriend yet or is she not accepting that girlfriend for her son? And what was Ha Joon doing in Jeju though? I'm curious of that too. And the guy at the end, is it Minhyuk again? Or is he someone's else entirely? Anyway, can't wait to read more. Will be eagerly waiting for the next update ^^

Chapter 33: So Eunwoo now thinks she likes him? Also, Ha Joon and her had an indirect date? Those two were too cute, especially trying to deny their feelings. And she gave him the black box? That came as a surprise. Anyway, can't wait to read more. Hope to see an update soon ^^

Chapter 32: At the beginning of the chapter, I was mildly confused if the order of the chapter was wrong but soon realised it was Ha Joon's perspective. Somehow, the mention of an Italian brand and all those ominous reactions and warnings from people make me wonder if it has anything to do with the Italian mafia. Also, her being conflicted with her feelings and her fear, how are things gonna resolve in that department? Also, Jung Hae In here is the actor Hae In, isn't it? Just curious... Anyway, can't wait to read more. Will be eagerly waiting for the next update ^^

Chapter 31: Asdfghjjklkj!! He brought her lunch, didn't he? Ayyo, now he's gonna think she went on a date with Soohyuk. And talking about him, I wonder what the repercussions gonna be for hanging out with him. I mean like she said, his mom is definitely not gonna leave this alone. Also, I'm starting to feel sorry for Eunwoo. Just hope that he was genuinely caring about her till now and not just acting so. Anyway, can't wait to read more. Hope to see an update soon ^^
