⬻Chapter XXII: Talk⤖
My Mysterious Boss┍━━━━ ⋆⋅☆⋅⋆ ━━━━┑
"Hajoon, don't get yourself involved in the situation."
Hajoon felt frustrated that his father wasn't understanding him.
He stopped the car, pulling it over to the side.
"I won't stand here and do nothing," Hajoon told his father.
"There's other ways to solve it."
"Don't worry. I'm not asking you for help, Father. I am letting you know, that's all,"
"Hajoon, let me take care of it. I don't want to lose you."
"You won't lose me," Hajoon said, ending the call with his father.
Hajoon sighed, knowing that his father's only goal was to stop him from doing what he wanted to do.
Hajoon knew he had one thing to do, and it was to get to the root of it.
•• ━━━━━ ••●•• ━━━━━ ••
He sat in his private room, looking at the board again.
I need to talk to Soohyuk. Maybe he'll spill something.
Hajoon thought.
Hajoon looked at your picture next.
Who were you talking to that day? What are you hiding?
Hajoon's phone rang, snapping him out of his thoughts. He pulled his phone out of his pocket and looked at the caller ID before answering the call.
"Boss, we found more information on Park -------."
"Send the files to me," Hajoon replied.
"Will do," his man answered, before ending the call.
Hajoon walked over to his desk, where his laptop was already opened and ready to go.
He sat down and waited for the files to send over.
Within a second, the notification bell dinged, notifying him a few new files sending through.
Hajoon double clicked on the PDF files, pulling a few pages open.
It was employment files on you at the Lee's residence.
So, she's working at Soohyuk's parents' place?
Hajoon thought.
Are they...together?
The more Hajoon thought, the more confused he became.
Hajoon printed the files out and brought it over to his board. He took a thumb tack and pinned it right beneath yours and Soohyuk's pictures.
He became more suspicious between your relationship with Soohyuk. He knew you two would be on his watch now.
Hajoon pulled out his phone and made another call.
"Have you guys look into Soohyuk?"
"We are. Nothing much on him yet, Boss."
"See what their relationship is," Hajoon ordered.
"We will, Boss."
"What about that guy? Have he said anything why he's after ------?"
"Nothing yet. We are doing our best."
"It's fine. Keep him until he says something," Hajoon said, before ending the call.
Midnight is when she comes out.
He looked at his watch, and it read 11:00PM/23:00.
Maybe she's still there?
Hajoon thought.
He looked at the board once more before making his decision.
He sighed and grabbed his blazer that was draped over his chair before heading out.
•• ━━━━━ ••●•• ━━━━━ ••
Hajoon drove down the streets where Soohyuk's parents reside. He parked his car from afar.
Why is she working there in the first place?
He thought as he stared at the entrance, waiting for you.
What if they're all working together?
Hajoon couldn't quite connect the dots to how you would fit in all of the chaos.
Hajoon saw you walk out from the back, crossing the street.
He his engine and trailed quietly behind you.
•• ━━━━━ ••●•• ━━━━━ ••
From the way you walked, he noticed that it wasn't normal. You held onto your bag and had your head down the whole way.
She's probably going to the bus stop.
Hajoon suspected.
He parked his car on the other side, when he saw that you stopped and turned to face the street.
What is she doing?
He thought, observing your every move.
You hailed a taxi cab, getting into it.
Hajoon drove further down the street to make a sharp U-turn to follow the cab you were in.
He looked around the area and noticed that it was not even near your place.
Where is she going?
Hajoon thought.
What if she's meeting up with Soohyuk?
Hajoon looked at the time.
No, she wouldn't do that at this time.
Hajoon concluded.
•• ━━━━━ ••●•• ━━━━━ ••
Hajoon saw the car signaling a right turn. Before Hajoon could follow the car, his phone rang.
Hajoon looked at the caller ID, then he looked back at the car's brake light's flash before making the turn.
Hajoon stopped his car and answered the call with a press of a button on his steering wheel.
"Boss, your father would like to see you."
Hajoon kept his stern look on as he read his father's name on the caller ID.
Hajoon thought for a while. He glanced up and looked at the street where the car had turned to.
"I'll be over," Hajoon replied, ending the call.
Hajoon looked at that street one more time, before making another u-turn.
•• ━━━━━ ••●•• ━━━━━ ••
As he drove, he had some many questions that needed answers.
Hajoon glanced over to the other side of the road, only to recognize Soohyuk's car. Hajoon made a hard brake, turning his head to see Soohyuk's car drive off further.
Is she really meeting up with Soohyuk?
Hajoon thought. Hajoon made a quick call to his father.
"Hajoon,"
"I won't make it tonight," Hajoon interrupted his father.
Before his father could add anything else, Hajoon had ended the call already.
He pressed on the gas pedal, going as fast as he could. He needed to confirm that question he's been wondering about.
Hajoon stopped his car when he saw Soohyuk's car back up.
Are they really meeting up here?
Hajoon thought.
Is Soohyuk covering her up?
Hajoon drove past Soohyuk, going on the other side of the street.
Hajoon got out of his car and walked down the quiet alleyways.
Maybe they're planning something? She's a lot smarter than I thought.
Hajoon thought.
•• ━━━━━ ••●•• ━━━━━ ••
"YOU WON'T BE SO FAST WHEN I GET YOU!"
Hajoon heard.
He looked down the street and saw you running up the steep street as you looked back.
Hajoon quickly entered a dark alleyway, hiding from you and the man.
Just as you were about to run past Hajoon, he grabbed your arm, surprising you.
He pushed you back against a wall, keeping watch on the street.
Before you could say anything to him, Hajoon covered your mouth with his hand.
He looked down at you.
He never knew how bright they shined.
Wait, what am I doing?
He thought.
"AISH! WHERE DID YOU GO?"
The man asked loudly, frustratedly.
He looked down the alley you two were hiding in.
As he thought you couldn't have hidden there, he continued following the same path, as he hungered for you.
•• ━━━━━ ••●•• ━━━━━ ••
Once the coast was cleared, Hajoon looked back down at you, as you continued to look at him with your owl eyes.
He removed his hand that was covering your mouth and took a step back.
Before Hajoon could say anything to you, you had wrapped both of your arms tightly around his waist, pulling him back to you.
Hajoon was quite shocked by the sudden and unusual reaction from you.
You sobbed right on his chest. During that moment, you had forgotten he was your boss.
He had never had to comfort someone before, especially a girl, so he didn't know what to do.
Hajoon hovered his hand over your back.
With all the courage he had, he placed one hand on your back and left it there, not knowing what to do next.
He's never seen you so vulnerable.
•• ━━━━━ ••●•• ━━━━━ ••
After you finished your thing, you backed away, wiping your tears.
You took a step back and embarrassingly looked at Hajoon, who was staring back at you too.
"Are you okay?" he asked.
You nodded your head.
"Thank you, Mr. Hajoon-shi!" you thanked him, as you felt the water coming back.
"We should wait for a bit," Hajoon suggested.
You looked at him and nodded in agreement.
You guys stood there in silence.
•• ━━━━━ ••●•• ━━━━━ ••
Hajoon took off his blazer and placed it over you.
You looked at him in surprise.
"Mr. Hajoon-shi, it's okay," you told him.
"Leave it on," he said.
He realized what he was doing was totally out of character for him.
He pushed his thoughts to the side and continued to keep watch.
Does Soohyuk know she's here?
He thought.
He looked at you, as you were staring at your feet.
She doesn't seem to care, IF they are meeting up.
•• ━━━━━ ••●•• ━━━━━ ••
After a few minutes passed, Hajoon looked down the street and then he looked back at you.
"Can you walk?"
You looked at him and nodded.
"I think it's safe now," he told you.
As Hajoon made his way out of the alley, you stared at his hand, trailing behind closely.
You felt scared to step out of the alley.
You had no idea if the man was still out there. You were only taking Hajoon's words for it.
Just as you stepped out of the alley, you grabbed onto Hajoon's hand, holding it tightly, wrapping your other hand around his arm, standing as close as you could to him.
Hajoon turned around and looked at you, as he tried to shake you off of him.
"Please, just let me hold your hand this one time," you gave him your puppy eyes.
Truth was you were really scared. It was nothing you wanted to take advantage of, but you had to.
Hajoon looked at you once more before he allowed you to hold his hand.
Hajoon, himself, was confused that he was allowing you to hold his hand. It was not something he'd do so open.
You walked closely hand-in-hand with Hajoon, looking around your surrounding carefully.
On the other hand, Hajoon glanced at you here and there while he led the way to his car.
"Can I come with you, Mr. Hajoon?" You asked him, as you realized you both had reached the end of the street.
To be honest, Hajoon didn't know what to reply with.
"Please," you once again used your puppy eyes in hopes he'd allow you to jump in his car.
"...sure," he hesitated.
He unlocked his car, and you quickly got in. You had totally forgot about manners at this point.
Hajoon just looked at you from the outside.
He walked over to his side and got in the driver's seat.
He saw that you had your head down with your eyes closed.
How can you be dangerous to me?
Once you felt the car move, you lifted your head up and looked at Hajoon.
"Mr. Hajoon, thank you again for helping me!" you thanked him.
He glanced over then focused on the road.
"I was praying the whole time. I thought I was going to die there without anyone knowing," you told him as your eyes watered again.
Hajoon stayed quiet listening to you.
Maybe, they're not here to meet up?
He thought.
"Mr. Hajoon, you know, something like that has happened to me before?" You spilled.
Hajoon was curious as to what you were going to say next.
"Really?" He asked.
"Yea. You know, that junkyard by my neighborhood?" You asked, as you placed both of your hands on your heart, remembering the feeling of that night.
"Yea."
"There was this man---"
You had remembered what you promised that man that night.
Hajoon glanced over, waiting for you to finish.
You wore the face of realization.
"I mean, I dreamt of something like that before," you corrected.
"What's the dream?" He asked.
"Um, it's nothing," you said.
"Mr. Hajoon, how did you find me?" You asked, looking at him curiously.
Hajoon looked over at you, then he focused back on the road.
"I was out for a midnight snack," Hajoon lied.
He didn't know what "midnight snacks" were to be honest. He's only heard of the term used around at the company.
"Oh...did you get it?" you asked him, feeling a little guilty.
"Oh, yes. I was heading back until I saw you," he replied without hesitation.
"Thank you again, Mr. Hajoon. I owe you one," you told him.
"What were you doing in that area?" Hajoon asked.
You looked at him as you two made eye contact.
"I was trying to go home, but the driver took me there," you explained, "when I knew he wasn't going to take me home, I tried running away, but he chased after me. I think he was planning to do some...thing bad to me."
"So...you weren't there to meet up with...Soohyuk, right?"
Hajoon needed to get his information.
"Soohyuk?" You asked in confusion.
"I saw him on my way back."
"No, I didn't know he was in the area," you told him.
"I see. I was just curious, that's all."
So, maybe they aren't dating?
•• ━━━━━ ••●•• ━━━━━ ••
Hajoon parked in front of your house.
"You're good?" He asked.
"Can you wait for me to get inside my house first before you leave?" You asked him.
There was no embarrassment from asking him at this point. You needed him to stay until you got inside.
Hajoon thought for a second before nodding to your request.
Aish, why am I doing all of these for her?
Hajoon questioned.
"Sorry for bothering you tonight," you said with guilt.
"Thank you, Mr. Hajoon, for...saving me," you gave him a soft smile.
Hajoon unlocked the door and you walked out. You quickly made your way to your front door, unlocking it.
You turned back to look at Hajoon, giving him a small wave before entering.
•• ━━━━━ ••●•• ━━━━━ ••
You sat on your bed and sighed in relief, knowing that you were safe.
You placed your hand on your heart and felt the palpitations, remembering what it felt like when he pulled you.
I don't like him, do I?
You asked yourself, tilting your head in confusion.
No, I don't. It was the adrenaline only.
You shook your head.
You removed the blazer and looked at it.
"Another one," you said.
You looked at the tag and again, it was the same name.
Maybe he just wears this brand.
You thought.
I need to give these back to him.
You sighed.
•• ━━━━━ ••●•• ━━━━━ ••
You got off the bus and began your walk.
Why did Hajoon ask me about Soohyuk last night? Does it really look like we're dating? Does Hajoon know that I work at the Lee's residence?
You thought.
You walked up the stairs, thinking about last night.
Maybe I should stay away from Soohyuk?
"---------!"
You stopped and looked over your shoulder.
"Soohyuk," you whispered.
He smiled and waved at you from the bottom step of the stairs.
"Stay away from my son."
Her words repeated in your head.
You ignored Soohyuk's wave and turned back to face the steps.
You quickly ran up the stairs and pushed past the door.
•• ━━━━━ ••●•• ━━━━━ ••
Meanwhile, Soohyuk was confused to why you didn't wave back or at least smile as you usually do.
Soohyuk ran up the stairs to catch up to you.
•• ━━━━━ ••●•• ━━━━━ ••
"------, why are you running?" Haein asked, looking at you sprint passed her.
"I'll be back!" you quickly replied.. You ran into the elevator and repeatedly clicked on the second floor.
You saw Soohyuk walking into the building, as the elevator doors slid close.
You got off and walked into the women's restroom. You picked a stall and sat in there, waiting for time to pass.
•• ━━━━━ ••●•• ━━━━━ ••
"Have you seen -------?" Soohyuk asked Haein.
Haein looked at Soohyuk and pointed at the elevators.
"Thank you, Haein-shi," Soohyuk smiled.
•• ━━━━━ ••●•• ━━━━━ ••
Aish, don't make this hard for me, Soohyuk.
You thought.
Your phone dinged.
You quickly searched for it in your bag.
It was a message from Haein.
Haein: Where did you go?
You: Did you see Soohyuk?
Haein: I did. Did something happen between you two?
You read Haein's text for a second.
You: Nothing happened. I just don't want to see him right now.
Haein: You should have told me. I pointed to the direction you went.
You: It's okay. I'm in the bathroom. He won't come in here.
Haein: I'll let you know when he leaves.
You: Thank you, Haein.
You closed your phone and threw it back in your bag.
I'm sorry, Soohyuk.
You looked at the time and waited for Haein's message, but nothing came through. The fact that you were in the bathroom for a good thirty minutes, you felt it was safe enough to walk out.
You peeked out and looked at the surrounding first before walking out.
•• ━━━━━ ••●•• ━━━━━ ••
"-------!"
"Haein."
"I haven't seen him yet. Why did you come out?" Haein asked, looking behind you.
"I can't stay in there forever, Haein."
"Oh, you're right! What happened with you and Soohyuk?"
"Nothing," you answered her.
You definitely didn't want her to know that his mom spoke to you.
"Are you sure? Are you two together? Did he cheat on you?" Haein asked, covering in shocked.
"What?" You were surprised with her questions.
"What? You wouldn't ignore someone just like that, especially you," Haein said.
"No, we're not together," you told her.
"Actually, I was curious. Does it look like we're together?" You asked Haein.
She thought for a while.
"Umm...a little bit?" She answered.
"What?" You were in shocked.
"What? You asked."
"I know, but why do you guys think like that? We're not even together," you told her frustratedly.
"I mean you guys look really close, that's all. He's single. You're single. Who wouldn't think you two aren't together?" She asked.
You facepalmed.
"If you see him, please let me know."
Haein nodded without any further questions.
"Haein," you called her.
"Yea?"
"Has the chairman come in yet?" you asked.
"Hajoon or his dad?"
"...Hajoon," you answered, feeling a little shy as you asked about him.
"Yea, he came early today; earlier than me," Haein said.
"Oh," you soft nodded.
"Why? Are you having problems with him too?"
You gently slapped her.
"No, I was just wondering," you said.
Deep inside, you wanted to see him.
•• ━━━━━ ••●•• ━━━━━ ••
"Haein, I'm going to go put my stuff away in the locker room,"
Haein smiled and nodded.
You walked to the locker room, thinking about Hajoon again, looking at your steps.
Aish, you need to stop coming into my thoughts.
You thought.
"-------!"
You lifted your head up and saw Soohyuk, standing only a few feet away from you.
Aish.
"-------."
Your thoughts were interrupted by another person calling you.
You looked over your shoulder and saw him holding a folder in one hand.
His body was wrapped in a gray suit. His hair gelled to the side. He wore his normal serious look.
Though he stood a few feet away from you too, it was always those eyes that could just absorb you in.
"Hajoon."
