⬻Chapter XXXI: Lunch⤖

My Mysterious Boss

┍━━━━ ⋆⋅☆⋅⋆ ━━━━┑
Aish, my head!

You groaned, placing your right palm on your head. The hangover was one that you've never felt before.
You slowly sat up and looked around, familiarizing yourself with the surroundings.
"Haein?" You groaned out of pain.
Haein laid on her stomach on the couch next to yours.
She slowly opened her eyes, doing the same thing you did.
She sat up and looked at you, as you looked at her.
"What happened?"
"What?" She asked, carefully observing her surroundings.
"How...How did I get here?" You rubbed your temples.
Haein took a few minutes, only to realize she was in her own apartment.
"Wait, how did you get here?" she asked back.
•• ━━━━━ ••●•• ━━━━━ ••
"Are you sure you're okay?" Haein asked for the fifth time.
"Yes, I'm feeling a lot better after washing my face. Thanks for letting me crash at your place," you smiled.
"You're really okay?" she asked again.
You laughed.
"I'm all good. Thanks for making sure I got home with you, " you thanked again.
"Of course, even though, I don't know how we got home. I'll text Jeongmin and see if he remembers," Haein chuckled.
"I'll see you later," you waved to Haein, before taking your leave.
•• ━━━━━ ••●•• ━━━━━ ••
You slowly walked to the bus stop, thinking how you got home with Haein.
You recalled Hajoon inviting the staff for dinner, taking a few shots of soju, and that was all.
"I think I like you?" You whispered, thinking to yourself.
You took a seat on the bench, waiting for the bus.
Why does it feel like I said that?
You thought.
You sharply gasped, covering your mouth in the process, gaining a small audience.
DID I SAY IT TO HIM LAST NIGHT?
Your eyes widened.
You looked around, noticing a few eyes on you. You bowed your head in apology.
You thought back.
No, no, no, I couldn't have said to him.
I don't even like him.
It's probably just a dream. It has to be a dream!

•• ━━━━━ ••●•• ━━━━━ ••
"Good morning, Ahjumma!" you waved to the grandma.
She stopped what she was doing to greet you.
"Omo, -------! Why are you out so early?"
"I was out with some friends last night," you chuckled, still lowkey worried about what you said last night.
"Did you need help?" you asked.
"Ahjumma! Where did you want me to put these?"
You looked behind the ahjumma and realized that it was your friend.
"Good morning, Eunwoo!" You greeted, giving a small smile.
You didn't know which side he really was on.
At the end of the day, which side was good and bad?
Eunwoo sat the box down, walking out of the small shop.
"I'll leave you two alone," the ahjumma said, winking at you, before walking back inside her shop.
Eunwoo smiled, catching the wink the ahjumma sent you.
•• ━━━━━ ••●•• ━━━━━ ••

The walk started off quiet.
"You just got home?" Eunwoo asked, looking over at you.
"Ah yes," you replied.
"Where did you go?

"I..."
Should I lie?
You contemplated. The fidgeting kicked in again.
You looked at Eunwoo, who was patiently waiting for your answer.
"I...was out last night with Haein and Jeongmin."
"Without me?" Eunwoo gasped, one hand placed on his chest, mouth agape.
You laughed.
"The chairman invited the staff for dinner."
Eunwoo's playfully gesture slowly dropped. His smile faded.
"Hajoon invited you guys?" He repeated.
"Yes."
"Did he drop you off?" Eunwoo scanned the surrounding, looking for Hajoon.
"No, he didn't. I got a little drunk last night, so I went home with Haein."
Eunwoo softly sighed.
"Don't get drunk when he's around. Who knows what he's going to----"
You stopped Eunwoo from making further assumption.
"Eunwoo, he's not going to do anything to me or anyone. Why are you so worried about him?" You asked, slightly raising your voice.
It wasn't that you were angry at him; but more so, that Eunwoo wanted to keep you away from Hajoon.
You and Eunwoo stopped in the middle of street.
You guys exchanged a moment of silence.
"Excuse me," you said.
Before you could walk away, Eunwoo grabbed your arm, stopping you.
You looked over your shoulder at him.
"I'm not worried about him. I'm worried about you."
Your face softened after hearing his words.
No, don't trust him too much.
You reminded yourself.
"I...don't want to risk you getting hurt."
There was an awkward tension in the air.
"Excuse me," you said, turning away from him, removing your arm out of his grasp.
You knew that he wasn't who was faking to be.
•• ━━━━━ ••●•• ━━━━━ ••
You closed the front door and thought about what Eunwoo said.
What if Eunwoo is the good guy? He wouldn't hurt me either, right?
You were confused to which one was the bad one and good one.
You walked into your room and looked at your closet.
His blazers and sweater were still in the same clear plastic bag.
You slowly recalled your mission. It wasn't to be partners with Hajoon, but to investigate him as you were initially supposed to do.
You remembered what the man said about the rare brand.
I need to figure that out soon.
You thought.
Who is the other person?
•• ━━━━━ ••●•• ━━━━━ ••

You slowly dragged your feet to the company after getting off from the bus.
How am I going to find the other person?
You wondered.
I'll probably have to go back and ask or something.
Would he remember though?

"-------?"
You broke out of your thoughts and looked at the person standing in front of you.
"Soohyuk-shi?"
He smiled seeing you.

"How are you? I haven't seen you since," Soohyuk thought, "since...I don't even remember," he laughed.
"Ah yes. I'm well, thanks," you smiled, "how about yourself?"
"I don't know. Definitely a little sad that I haven't seen you for so long."
You felt a little awkward after registering what he said.
You gave him a small smile.
"You're still working at the house, right?"
"I am," you nodded.
You wanted to end the conversation, but Soohyuk seemed to keep the conversation going.
You guys slowly walked up the stairs.
"What are you doing here at the company?"
You knew you could probably get something out from him.

“The former chairman had set a meeting for this morning, so I’m just stopping by for a quick minute or so."
The former chairman? This seems serious. Why didn’t Ms. Kim say anything about this meeting?
You thought.
“The former chairman?” You asked again, looking at him curiously.
“Yes, my grandpa,” Soohyuk clarified.
It's time to be nosy.
You thought.
“What’s the meeting about? I just realized the staff wasn’t notified about this meeting.
Unless I wasn’t paying attention then that’s another problem,” you chuckled. You needed to sell the character.
“I actually don’t know. I was told to attend,” he laughed.
“Ohhh.”
Damn it! Maybe, my partner will te---
“Would you be available during lunch?” Soohyuk asked, breaking you out of your thoughts.
“Huh?” You looked over at him.
Soohyuk smiled.
“Let’s go out for lunch?”
That fact that you had made up too many excuses to avoid Soohyuk in the past, you couldn’t lie this time.
“That would be great. I’d love to catch up with you,” you smiled.
Mrs. Lee will definitely see us.
You were already thinking of the consequences that you were going to get from Ms. Kim and Mrs. Lee.
“Awesome!”Soohyuk smiled,
"I'll see you later then. I should head up before the chairman gets here."
"Yes, see you soon."
Aish, what did I get myself into?
You thought.
Soohyuk jogged up the remaining stairs, entering the building.

•• ━━━━━ ••●•• ━━━━━ ••
"Yah!"
You looked over your shoulder. Haein gave you that sneaky smirk, walking up the steps.
"Um, what just happened?"
"No, nothing happened," you denied.
"I saw the smile," she smiled, raising one of her brows, as she tried to continue teasing you.
"Nope, it's nothing. You need to stop with that imagination," you chuckled.
"Wait, I thought you and Mr. Hajoon-shi were a thing?" Haein furrowed her brows in confusion, scratching the back of her head.
Just when she asked that, Hajoon walked past you two.
Both you and Haein stopped, mouth agape, eyes widened, mortified.
You and Haein slowly looked at each other.
Hajoon entered the building; the doors held by one of his men.
"What...What just happened?" you asked, still in complete shock and embarrassed.
"Um yeah, it was the chairman...the chairman...Wi Ha Joon," Haein replied, processing what just happened.
You closed your eyes in embarrassment, as your cheeks flushed pink.
You looked over at Haein, who was still registering the moment.
"Why did you say it so loud? Not just that, we're on company property."
"I'm really sorry, --------!" She faked sob, pulling you into a hug.
You wanted to roll down those stairs.
"What if I rolled down the stairs? I won't have to come into work, right?" you asked Haein.
Haein pulled away from the hug and looked at the stairs.
"Should we both roll down and break our ankle?" She suggested.
You nodded without even thinking twice what Haein suggested.
"Yah, I'm so sorry! I will explain it to him, okay?"
"No, let's pretend this never happened," you faked a smile.
Haein gave you a hwaiting fist, encouraging you two to enter the building.

•• ━━━━━ ••●•• ━━━━━ ••

After greeting the former chairman and the rest of the family, everyone returned to their post.
You and Haein wondered what the meeting was about, the fact that all the family members were there.
"How important do you think this meeting is?"
You shrugged, wondering the same thing Haein was curious about.
Maybe Soohyuk will say something about this during lunch.
You thought.
You were lowkey happy that you accepted that lunch Soohyuk offered.
It was a good day to continue your investigation.
The investigation reminded you of him.

"Haein-ah, do you remember what happened last night?" You looked over at her.
Haein thought for a while.
"You know, I just remember singing and drinking," she said as she continued to try to recall last night.
"Do you remember seeing me or anything I did?"
She had a moment, gasping, remembering what she saw.
"Do you remember talking to the Chairman?"
You thought, then you shook your head.
"No. You're talking about Mr. Hajoon, right?"
"Duh, who do you think I was talking about?" she laughed.
"That's all you remember?"
"Yea...," she gasped another time, and then slapped you on the arm, "I think I remember telling him to bring you to the car."
"What?!" you exclaimed.

Ssi-Bal! Then, it wasn't a dream??
You began feeling anxious.
"You're saying that he brought me to your car??"
"Aish, I don't remember," Haein frustratedly said, thinking of what she actually saw.
"Wait, why are you asking me this?"
You looked at her once again.
You sighed.
"It's nothing. It was probably just a dream," you hoped.
"Oh okay, I hope you didn't say anything you regret last night," Haein joked.
"Aish, don't say that. I'm really hoping it was just a dream," You anxiously looked away.
"Waiat, did Soohyuk really not say anything to you?" Haein asked again, remembering what she saw in the morning.
"Actually, he asked if I could join him for lunch," you answered, still thinking about last night.
"What did you say?" Haein smiled, excited to hear what you were going to say to her.
"...yes."
Haein slapped your arm, playfully, jumping from excitement.
"Are you serious?"
"Yes."
"Ayee, what's your charm?" She side-eyed you playfully.
"No charms. We're just going as friends."
"I believe you only said yes because last time I left you to go with Jeongmin, right?"
"No, I have nothing against you or Jeongmin. It's really just a small lunch with a friend who happens to be the chairman's cousin," you chuckled.
"Alright. Alright. Have fun, okay?

•• ━━━━━ ••●•• ━━━━━ ••
"Thank you for coming out," Soohyuk smiled, as you two walked to a nearby restaurant.
"Thanks for inviting me," you returned the smile, as you looked around.
You really didn't want his mom seeing you around with him. Soohyuk also noticed that you were a little distracted.
"Are you okay?"
You looked back at him.
"Ah yes."
"Don't worry. Everyone is still at the building. They're having lunch in the meeting room," Soohyuk guessed what you were worried about.
"Oh really?"
He nodded.

•• ━━━━━ ••●•• ━━━━━ ••
You two sat across from each other at a window seat.
You looked around, and it looked way too extravagant.
Just as you two were seated, the waiters had brought out the food already.
You looked at Soohyuk, confused.
He laughed.
"It's my grandpa's restaurant."
Wow, how many restaurants do they own?
"Really?"
He nodded, smiling.
"I ordered ahead already. I didn't want you to get in trouble by Ms. Kim," he joked.
"Ah yes," you laughed.
"Please enjoy. The bills on me."
"Thank you so much, Soohyuk-shi," you smiled.
"I thought we dropped the formality," he asked, catching onto the way you spoke to him.
You pretended to think about it.
"Ah, we did," you awkwardly chuckled. The fact was you didn't want to get in trouble by his mom.
You knew his mom was closely monitoring you.
"Soohyuk, thank you for the meal," you said it again without formality.
"My pleasure," he smiled.

•• ━━━━━ ••●•• ━━━━━ ••
Hajoon walked out from the back of the building. He held onto a lunch bag in his right hand.
The closer he got to the bench, he realized that you were missing.
He saw Haein and Jeongmin sitting across from each other. He looked around at the other benches, but no signs of you.
Maybe she'll be here later. She's probably just being slow as she always is.
Hajoon thought.
Haein and Jeongmin stood up the moment they saw him, bowing down as protocol called for.
Hajoon walked past them, acting as if he wasn't looking for you.
He stood by the sidewalk, looking at the view, waiting for a few minutes.

Hajoon looked over his shoulder, then back at his watch.
Why isn't she here yet?
He wondered.
Hajoon walked back.
Once again, Jeongmin and Haein stood up, bowing to him.
Hajoon stopped at their table.
"Did ------ leave early?" He asked.
Haein was surprised by the unexpected question.
"W-what?"
"Will ----- be joining you guys out here?" Hajoon asked again.
"No. She went out with Mr. Soohyuk-shi for lunch," Haein spilled.
What?
"Were you looking for her?"Haein asked.
Hajoon looked at the lunch bag he was carrying.
Aish, what am I even doing?
He thought.
"I had requested some files this morning. I just needed to know if she got them finished," Hajoon lied.
It meant that he really had to make something up for you.
"Oh, I'm not sure about that. I'll ask her when she gets back," Haein said, bowing her head.
"Thanks," Hajoon said, then he walked away, glancing at the bag again.
What are you doing, Hajoon-ah?

•• ━━━━━ ••●•• ━━━━━ ••
"Thank you for lunch, Soohyuk. It was really delicious."
You two began making your way back to the building.
"We should go out more often. It's fun hanging around you,"Soohyuk looked over.
"No, you're the fun person. I'm a one-dimension person," you laughed.
"Thanks for coming out again," Soohyuk smiled.
Soohyuk looked at your hands, realizing that you were probably cold from the chilly wind.
He reached for his activated hand warmer in his jacket pocket.
Without thinking about how you would feel, he grabbed your hand, startling you.
Before you could retreat your hand, he placed the hand warmer in yours.

"Oh, I'm sorry," Soohyuk apologized after seeing how you reacted.
"No, it's okay," you smiled.
"For your hands."
"Thank you."
You took the hand warmer, though still a little startled by his action.
"My mom's not hard on you, right?"
You looked at him, a little surprised by the question. You didn't know how to answer it.
"N-no. She's nice," you half lied. Truth was she was hard on you. She had personally ask you to back away from her son.
"That's good," he said, "if I can help you with anything, let me know, okay?"
"Thank you. I really appreciate it."

•• ━━━━━ ••●•• ━━━━━ ••
You entered the building and walked behind the desk.
"So... how was lunch with Mr. Lee Soohyuk?" Haein teased.
"It went well," you replied, taking off your jacket.
"Oh really?"
"Mhm."
"Earlier, Mr. Hajoon-shi came looking for you," Haein playfully smirked.
Th-thump. Th-thump. Th-thump.
"W-what?" You asked, turning to look at her.
"What did he say?"
"Ayeeee, do you have a crush on him?" Haein asked, catching you by surprise.
"What? Of course not! That's nasty! Why would I have a crush on my boss?" You gasped.
Truth was you didn't know what was going on with yourself.
"What did he need?" you asked again, putting your jacket under your desk.
"I'm just teasing you. He said there were some files that you were supposed to do this morning for him. He hasn't received them, so he was just wondering if you got them done."
"Files? There were none? I checked the printing room before lunch, and there was nothing," you recalled.
"You should go check again. Ms. Kim likes to mix the piles up."

•• ━━━━━ ••●•• ━━━━━ ••
You entered the printing room, looking over each pile of papers.
You picked up the pile with a blue sticky note on top.
20 copies by 1:45PM/13:45, stapled.
-Chairman Wi

You looked at the clock, and it read 1:30PM/13:30.
Aishhh!
You facepalmed.
"How did I miss this blue sticky note?" you whispered under your breath.
You quickly made the copies requested.

•• ━━━━━ ••●•• ━━━━━ ••
Just as you walked out, you met with Ms. Kim.
"Ms. Kim," you called her.
She turned around.
"What did you need?"
You showed her the pile of papers you copied.
"Where did the chairman want me to put these?" you asked.
She gave you a confused look.
"What copies are you making?"
You handed her the papers, and she examined the papers you copied.
"The chairman ordered this?" she asked.
You were confused yourself.
Why didn't Ms. Kim know about this? Usually, she's the one that passes the message to you.
"Wait, you don't know about these?" you took the papers back.
She shook her head.
"Let me walkie the other floor and see where those goes," she said.
Ms. Kim quickly made the call, as you waited patiently a few steps back from her.
"Okay, thank you," Ms. Kim said before ending the call.
"Bring them to the Chairman's office." Then, she walked away.
You bowed your head and then made your way to the elevator.

•• ━━━━━ ••●•• ━━━━━ ••

You tapped your foot, anxiously.
Aish, what's going on with me?
You asked yourself.
You looked at the digital red print on top of the elevator, counting the floors up.
The closer it got to the 12th floor, the more nervous you began feeling.
Nope, I shouldn't be feeling like this. It was just a dream. It's nothing. He's nothing. I will be okay.
You reminded yourself, hoping that it would calm you down.
You got off on his floor and began making your way to his office, hugging the papers you copied.
Deep breaths. Deep breaths.
You took those deep breaths.
The closer you approached his office door, you realized that it was slightly opened, hearing someone mumbling something that you didn't hear so clear.
You reached his door, raised your fist to knock, only for your ears to listen carefully.

Chapter 40: Ah, so that's how those two take care of that ending from the previous chapter? But what did she mean by she didn't want him to blurt it out like that to Eunwoo? I couldn't recall which incident she was referring to. Other than that, Ha Joon getting jealous of her having lunch with Soo Hyuk and then taking up on his offer to drive her home and also, when he thought she was dating Eunwoo. But did he offer to take her home and she rejected him? He was kinda salty when he said something along the line of 'you take up his offer but reject mine?'. And once again what's with this chapter's ending as well? It's illegal to leave us on a note like that. Now what's that bracelet and how does he recognise it? And what did Ha Joon do this time? Surely she can't be his ex and all, unless she was abroad as well. Nonetheless, I can't wait to read more. Will be eagerly waiting for the next update ^^

Chapter 39: Ooh... You didn't bring the twist I was expecting from the ending of the previous chapter. And talking about endings, what is even Ha Joon thinking confronting Eunwoo like that here? How is he gonna justify his reason for knowing that? Regardless, I had fun reading this chapter. Those two showing attitude to each other, then caring about each other secretly... I can't wait to read more. Will be eagerly waiting for the next update ^^

Chapter 38: I'm not gonna get fooled by your ending. I'm sure he's gonna something along the line, who will spy for him and he's in need of a trustworthy partner or so. LoL... But that's a pretty good ending for the chapter. I'll give you that. You almost got me. Anyway, those two were really good this whole chapter. Like her, I'm gonna miss those two being on holiday. Since they can't be this free back home with their job hierarchy. Also, I cracked up hard when she retorted 'In this hotel room?' to his ' I'm your boss' comment XD can't wait to read more. Will be waiting for the next update ^^

Chapter 37: Their vacation is getting over? So soon? Noooooo... I mean it was fun seeing them flirt and spend time together without their status or something holding them back. It was sweet and a bit funny how they ordered food for each other and then acted like they can eat all that by themselves. And will they be having a double date somewhere later in the story with Minhyuk and his girlfriend? Also, that ending though! How are they both gonna escape the guys who have come in search of him? Can't wait to read more. Will be eagerly waiting for the next update ^^

Chapter 36: So Eunwoo hasn't found the box yet, right? I mean since he got interrupted by Haein while searching for it. Also, wonder why Ha Joon is keeping an eye on her as well... And definitely enjoyed reading those two's interaction in the island. I laughed out loud when she asked him if older women was his type and was going to introduce her friend to him. Oh, I totally forgot about her admitting her feelings for him, even though it was just to herself. Now when's Ha Joon gonna realise his own? Also, she gotta stop following people blindly especially when it involves secluded place and warehouses. When is she gonna learn her lesson? Anyway, thanks for the longer update. can't wait to read more. Will be eagerly waiting for the next update ^^

PS New Year wishes to you as well. Wish you the best!

Chapter 35: That ending though! I mean will Ha Joon recognise whose voice it is? And does she have notes on Eunwoo too on that board? I don't seem to remember... Regardless, this chapter was a fun read, especially the interactions between her and Ha Joon. And I'm still wondering about this Minhyuk guy. LoL... Anyway, can't wait to read more. Hope to see an update soon ^^

Chapter 34: LoL... You definitely got us in the last chapter! I still can't believe it wasn't the same black box that he was looking for. Wah, you fooled me completely! Anyway, coming to the chapter, I didn't know such a hotel existed in Jeju. Not that I know of all the hotels there. Nonetheless, I wasn't expecting a hotel with the name 'Ramada' in Korea but now I know, thanks to you and Google. LoL.. also, can't believe Ha Joon really killed someone in this chapter. Not sure why that came as a shock to me though. Also, that nice guy named Minhyuk, is he one of your OCs or is he one of those idols with the real name Minhyuk? I'm really curious. Also, his mother doesn't know about his girlfriend yet or is she not accepting that girlfriend for her son? And what was Ha Joon doing in Jeju though? I'm curious of that too. And the guy at the end, is it Minhyuk again? Or is he someone's else entirely? Anyway, can't wait to read more. Will be eagerly waiting for the next update ^^

Chapter 33: So Eunwoo now thinks she likes him? Also, Ha Joon and her had an indirect date? Those two were too cute, especially trying to deny their feelings. And she gave him the black box? That came as a surprise. Anyway, can't wait to read more. Hope to see an update soon ^^

Chapter 32: At the beginning of the chapter, I was mildly confused if the order of the chapter was wrong but soon realised it was Ha Joon's perspective. Somehow, the mention of an Italian brand and all those ominous reactions and warnings from people make me wonder if it has anything to do with the Italian mafia. Also, her being conflicted with her feelings and her fear, how are things gonna resolve in that department? Also, Jung Hae In here is the actor Hae In, isn't it? Just curious... Anyway, can't wait to read more. Will be eagerly waiting for the next update ^^

Chapter 31: Asdfghjjklkj!! He brought her lunch, didn't he? Ayyo, now he's gonna think she went on a date with Soohyuk. And talking about him, I wonder what the repercussions gonna be for hanging out with him. I mean like she said, his mom is definitely not gonna leave this alone. Also, I'm starting to feel sorry for Eunwoo. Just hope that he was genuinely caring about her till now and not just acting so. Anyway, can't wait to read more. Hope to see an update soon ^^
