⬻Chapter XX: Secret⤖
My Mysterious Boss┍━━━━ ⋆⋅☆⋅⋆ ━━━━┑
Time seemed to stop for a second for you. You couldn't seem to find the pacing for your breathing. You looked right at his chest. The last thing you wanted to do was look at his eyes. You were slowly immersed into his dark aura.
You wanted to say something, but nothing came out. You wanted to push him away, but you couldn't at the same time.
The lights came on, making you snap out of your thoughts.
You swallowed your saliva and released his hand, taking a step back.
You bowed.
"Thank you for the dance, Mr. Hajoon-shi," you thanked, lifting your head.
Hajoon didn't reply, instead he walked the opposite way.
You stared at him as he walked further away.
This is weird.
You thought, as you placed one of your hands on your stomach, hoping the butterflies would go away.
You walked off the dance floor and once again stood in the back of the room.
•• ━━━━━ ••●•• ━━━━━ ••
"Have you guys found anything on -------?" Hajoon asked one of his men, observing you from afar.
"Nothing yet, Boss. We are working on it."
Hajoon gave the man a nod in acknowledgement, before the man took his leave.
I'll get you, Park ------.
Hajoon was determined to figure out your role in the mess.
•• ━━━━━ ••●•• ━━━━━ ••
As the night slowly came to an end, you began tidying the place.
"Let me help you," you offered another staff who was cleaning up.
"Thank you!" She smiled.
She handed you a tray of cups.
You carefully took it out of her hand.
"-------."
You slowly turned around and saw Soohyuk standing there.
"Soohyuk, you're still here?" You asked him.
"The last guest just left," he chuckled.
"Ah, I see."
Soohyuk looked at the tray of cups in your hand.
"Do you need help?" he asked with a hint of concern on his face.
You looked at the tray.
"Ah, no. I got it," you smiled, "thank you."
"Are you finished after this?" He asked.
"Yea, I am. Why?"
Soohyuk hesitated for a second. Truth was he was a little bit nervous to ask you.
"Can... I give you a ride home?" Soohyuk asked.
You were speechless. You stood there with nothing to say.
He chuckled to break the awkwardness.
"I mean, it's late. I wasn't sure if you had a ride home," Soohyuk said, hoping it would make you feel more comfortable.
"Oh, what time is it?" you asked.
You looked around the room for a clock.
"It's 11:30PM/23:30," Soohyuk replied.
"Already?!" you exclaimed.
"Did you have a ride home?"
"I was planning to take the bus home."
"I don't think the buses are running at these hours. Let me drop you off," Soohyuk insisted.
"I'd hate to be a bother, Soohyuk."
"No, it's really fine," he smiled.
"Are you sure?"
"Not a problem."
"Okay. Let me put this away first."
"I'll be waiting in the front," he smiled.
You gave him a small smile before heading back to the kitchen.
•• ━━━━━ ••●•• ━━━━━ ••
You grabbed your bag and walked to the front where Soohyuk stood with his back facing you.
Soohyuk turned around hearing your footsteps.
"Did you need help?" Soohyuk offered carrying your bag.
"Oh, it's okay! I got it," you smiled.
You and Soohyuk walked out of the main entrance and down the red carpet where his car parked at the end.
Soohyuk opened the door for you.
You were a little surprised since no one had ever done that for you.
You smiled and thanked him before getting in the car. Soohyuk smiled in return.
•• ━━━━━ ••●•• ━━━━━ ••
"Boss, the car is parked in the front when you're ready."
"I'll be out in a bit," Hajoon replied.
The man bowed before taking his leave.
Hajoon took a quick glance outside, only to see you entering Soohyuk's car.
Hajoon walked closer to the tall glass door, observing you two.
Are they really working together?
Hajoon suspiciously thought as Soohyuk drove off.
•• ━━━━━ ••●•• ━━━━━ ••
"Did you enjoy the night?" Soohyuk asked, glancing over at you.
"Yea, it was alright," you replied.
"My parents aren't too tough on you, right?"
You looked over to Soohyuk's side, realizing he meant about you working at the Lee's residence.
"Actually, I've worked only a few nights so far. I haven't met met them yet," you chuckled.
"Oh, is that so? If there's anything I can help you with, please let me know," Soohyuk offered.
"Thank you!" you smiled.
You thought a second before asking him.
"You...don't live with your parents, right? I just realized that I don't see you so much there," you said, being observative during your time at the house.
"No, I don't. I live a few minutes away from them at my penthouse," Soohyuk replied.
Does Hajoon and Soohyuk live in the same area then?
You thought.
"Does...Hajoon live in the same complex?" You asked nervously.
You were determined to get any answer from Soohyuk about Hajoon. This was going to be the moment.
"Hajoon?" Soohyuk asked again.
"Yea, the chairman," you replied, "but it's nothing. I was just wondering," you quickly put it out there before Soohyuk thought of anything else.
"Haha, I know. No, Hajoon doesn't live in the same complex. Speaking of him, I actually don't know where he's living right now. He's a low profile kind of man," Soohyuk chuckled.
"Sorry, we didn't get our dance earlier," Soohyuk apologized.
"Huh?" you furrowed your brows, confused as you didn't hear his question clearly.
"I saw you dance with Hajoon," he said.
The moment he said that it brought you right back to that moment and time.
"Ah yes," you awkwardly replied.
"He's not scary, right?"
"No...he isn't," you replied.
He really is intimidating.
You thought.
Wait, what did we even talk about?
You thought as you couldn't recall what was said between you and Hajoon.
"I'll make sure to get that dance with you though," Soohyuk was determined.
You chucked at his comment.
"I was actually curious, Soohyuk," you began.
Soohyuk glanced over to you.
"Yea?"
"About Hajoon."
"What about him?"
"Has Hajoon always lived in Korea?"
You listened carefully to what Soohyuk had to say.
"No, he left Korea when he was younger," Soohyuk said.
"Where did he move to?"
"The States. It's very rare to hear Hajoon talk, but he'll sometimes slip in English with his Korean," Soohyuk said.
"Ahh, I've heard a few times. You're right; he doesn't talk much," you chuckled, hoping that your questions aren't too suspicious.
"What about you? You didn't move to the States, right?" You asked.
"No, I've lived here my whole life. I'm pretty boring, right? Not like Hajoon," he joked.
"Oh no! I didn't mean it like that," you quickly replied.
"I'm just playing with you," Soohyuk chuckled.
•• ━━━━━ ••●•• ━━━━━ ••
Before realizing, Soohyuk had parked right outside of your neighborhood.
"You live here?" Soohyuk asked, looking through the window, observing the dark neighborhood.
"This is my neighborhood. That house at the end of the street is where I live," you told him.
Soohyuk nodded.
"Thank you for dropping me off, Soohyuk," you smiled.
"Yea, it's no problem," he smiled back.
Just you opened the door and walked out, Soohyuk opened his door and looked at you from above his car.
"-------,"
"Yea?" you replied, looking up at him.
"Can I walk you home?" Soohyuk asked.
•• ━━━━━ ••●•• ━━━━━ ••
You walked with Soohyuk side by side down the empty street.
"How long have you lived here?"
"Just a couple of years. I'm still pretty new here."
"Do you live alone?"
"I do."
"What about your parents?"
"Oh, I've never met my parents," you told him.
Soohyuk looked over apologetically.
"Oh, I'm sorry. I didn't mean to."
"No, it's good!" you laughed, "it was a long time ago."
"If you ever need----"
"-------!"
You and Soohyuk looked at the direction of the voice.
Eunwoo walked down the street towards you.
He stood next to you, scanning Soohyuk up and down.
"I can take her from here," Eunwoo said to Soohyuk, keeping a stern look at Soohyuk.
You looked at Eunwoo and held his arm, catching his attention.
•• ━━━━━ ••●•• ━━━━━ ••
Soohyuk looked at you to see you holding Eunwoo's arm.
Maybe it's her boyfriend?
Soohyuk assumed.
•• ━━━━━ ••●•• ━━━━━ ••
"Soohyuk, this is Eunwoo," you introduced Soohyuk to Eunwoo.
"Eunwoo, this is Soohyuk."
"Nice to meet you, Eunwoo-shi," Soohyuk extended his hand out for a handshake.
Eunwoo looked at Soohyuk before accepting the gesture.
"------- and I will get going now," Eunwoo said.
"I'll see you later, Soohyuk. Thank you, again, for the ride home. Please get home safely," you told Soohyuk.
He smiled and gave you a nod.
"Good night, ------!"
With that, Soohyuk left, leaving you and Eunwoo standing on the street together.
•• ━━━━━ ••●•• ━━━━━ ••
"Who is he?"
You looked at Eunwoo.
"He's the chairman's cousin," you replied back, feeling guilty.
"Why did he drop you off?"
"Well, he offered."
"I waited for you at the bus stop," Eunwoo said.
You had forgotten that you had asked him to wait for you at the bus stop.
"Eunwoo, I'm sorry!" you apologized, "I just thought it was better and safer."
Eunwoo couldn't get mad at you for long.
"Next time, call me or something. I want to make sure you're safe, that's all."
With that, Eunwoo walked you home.
•• ━━━━━ ••●•• ━━━━━ ••
"--------, are you home?"
You stopped what you were doing, setting the garden tool down. You removed the gloves and walked towards your backyard gate.
"Oh hi!! I thought I heard you, but I wasn't sure," you chuckled.
"Let's go inside," you told her.
•• ━━━━━ ••●•• ━━━━━ ••
"Please make yourself at home."
"Thank you!" she said.
You sat beside her, placing the cup of water down and a plate of fruits to the side.
"What brings you here today?" You asked her.
•• ━━━━━ ••●•• ━━━━━ ••
Why were Soohyuk and ------ so close last night?
Hajoon thought, swaying his chair, tapping his pen on his desk.
Hajoon stared at his laptop.
Are they potentially...together?
He stood up from his seat and walked towards his board. He crossed his arms and looked at your picture, then he looked at Soohyuk's.
Hajoon removed the thumb tack on Soohyuk's picture and relocated it on the board; right next to yours.
Hajoon sighed as he couldn't quite figure it out. This would be the first time.
His laptop notification dinged, snapping him out of his thoughts as he looks over his shoulder.
Hajoon walked back to his desk and opened the notification.
He sat down and listened carefully.
•• ━━━━━ ••●•• ━━━━━ ••
"Do you remember the stuff I gave you when you first moved here?"
"Yea. I still have it. Why?"
"I just wanted to make sure it's still with you."
"Did you want it back? I can give it back."
"No, I think it's better if it stays with you. Please keep it safe. I trust you, -------."
