Little Details pt. 2

Chaennie Shots (Volume 1)

A/n: To the future we go

~ ~ ~ ~

“YAH PARK CHAEYOUNG! WAKE UP!”

“Huh?”

“You cried.” Jisoo frowned, cupping Chaeyoung’s face wiping her tears away, “Why are you crying? Did you have a nightmare?”

“Jennie!” Chaeyoung was hysteric, running around her apartment, putting on random articles of clothing while Jisoo was trying to calm her down, but Chaeyoung was in full blown panic mode.

“Chaeyoung, hey. STOP.” Jisoo roughly pulled on the girl, stopping her in her tracks, “Stop Chae.” Jisoo spoke softer, hugging the blonde who now began to sob on her shoulder.

“Hey, it’s okay. Breath Chae..breath.” Jisoo tried to soothe the taller girl, she was completely sobbing.

“What’s going on?” Jisoo asked after Chaeyoung finally calmed down.

“I..nothing...it was a nightmare.” Chaeyoung calmed down, looking at the photo on her side table.

“Jeez, what kind of nightmare was it that you were seriously hysteric? I heard you thrashing from my unit!” Jisoo frowned.

“It was bad Chu..and it felt so real..like I actually lived it.”

“How bad was it?” Jisoo probed.

“Bad Chu...really bad. I..we..Jen..she..” Chaeyoung shut her eyes tight, trying to get the images of her dream out of her mind.

“What happened with Jen?”

Chaeyoung shook her head, not wanting to relieve the nightmare again..

“Do you want me to call her?”

“Please.”

“Okay.”

“Wait.” Chaeyoung stopped Jisoo from calling Jennie right there and then.

“What?” Jisoo raised a brow.

“Can you call her to your place instead?”

“Sure.” Jisoo helped the blonde girl up.

Once inside Jisoo’s unit, the girl called Jennie right away, leaving the blonde on her couch.

“Kim Jisoo someone better be dying! Do you have any idea what time it is right now?” A very grumpy dumpling answered the phone groggily.

“It’s Chae.” Jisoo spoke, “Something happened.”

“What happened?” the serious tone in Jisoo’s voice did the trick in fully waking the girl up. Already grabbing whatever Hoodie and sweatpants her arms can reach.

“Just come to my place.”

“I’ll be there in 10.”

‘At least it’s not the hospital.’ Jennie breathed a sigh of relief. She wouldn’t know what to do if something ever happened to Chaeyoung.

“Is she coming?” Chaeyoung asked, after Jisoo came back with a cup of tea.

“Mhm.” Jisoo nodded, watching the blonde next to her twiddle her thumbs.

It’s been 4 almost 5years since they last saw each other and it’s been years since something happened between Jennie and Chaeyoung, which until now neither Jisoo or Lisa know what really happened.

“Hey Chae.” Jisoo spoke up after a few moments.

“Hmm?”

“What happened that day...when you left, why didn’t Jen show up?” Jisoo asked, hoping that opening Pandora's box won’t do any more harm than it already has.

“It was just a petty fight.” Chaeyoung brushed the topic away.

“It wasn’t petty if it caused this rift between you two. I mean you guys barely talked to each other on the group chat and I have a feeling it’s part of the reason why you lowkey ghosted us for years.” Jisoo let her frustrations out.

“Things just happened Chu...can we leave it at that please.” Chaeyoung pleaded, getting up from the couch.

“Where are you going?”

“It’s fine, you talked to her. She’s safe, I better go.”

“Chaeyoung.” Jisoo stood up, wanting to stop the girl.

“Next time..I..I promise. Next time.” Chaeyoung smiled, taking Jisoo’s hand from her wrist.

Minutes after Chaeyoung left, Jennie arrived.

“Where is she?” Jennie asked, looking around the room.

“Back at her place.”

“What? You called me here because something happened and now she’s not here. What the hell?!” Jennie was annoyed. The two called her at 3am and she rushed all the way over here and now the person who was looking for her is somehow gone.

“Just stay the night. C’mon.” Jisoo dragged the steaming dumpling to the guest room.

“Next time just facetime me.” Jennie grumbled, getting in bed.

“Yeah, but it was pretty serious.” Jisoo replied, tucking in the grumbling girl.

“Right, sure.” Jennie sarcastically replied.

“I’m sorry, but she was pretty frazzled and she was about to have a panic attack any second.” Jisoo looked at Jennie apologetically, making her feel like a total .

“Was it that bad? What happened anyways?” Jennie asked, speaking softer, her eyebrows relaxing.

“She had a nightmare, a really bad one. She was thrashing about so loudly, I heard her from here. So I barged into her unit and had to literally shake her awake. She was covered in sweat and crying. Then she leapt out of bed rushing to get to you.”

“What was her nightmare about?”

“She didn’t say...but maybe you two should talk about everything.” Jisoo emphasized ‘everything.’

“Maybe when she stops running away. Goodnight Chu.” Jennie ended the conversation, turning her back on the other girl.

“Really what happened?” Jisoo ran her fingers through her hair, feeling more worried than before.

~ ~ ~ ~

“So your nightmare had to do with her again.” Suzy sat in front of Chaeyoung in the dining room. The two meeting up for breakfast before going off to buy some things the blonde needs at home as well as to meet with Chaeyoung’s friends later on in the day.

“Do you really have to emphasize the ‘her’” Chaeyoung grumbled, taking a sip of her tea.

“I mean, you’ve been dreaming about this since I met you. Like damn girl are you ever going to move-on?”

“I’ve moved on.”

“If you say so.” Suzy raised a brow, taking a sip of her coffee, waiting for the other girl to say it herself.

“Fine, maybe I thought I did...but being back it’s...making me remember things.”

“Which explains the sudden return of your dreams.”

“Right..okay, but this is different. Like it felt all too real, but the events that happened weren’t. I don’t know.”

“Look Rosie, I’ve told you this hundreds, no, millions of times. Talk to her.”

“I know, but..I don’t know how to even approach it.”

“Well we’re having lunch with them later right? She’ll be there right?”

“Yeah, she texted the group chat that she’ll be there...but I don’t know.”

“Just promise me that you’ll find a chance to ask her to talk. In private. I really think you both need it.”

“I promise.”

~ ~ ~ ~

“Roseanna Park if you don’t get out of this car right now.” Suzy threatened, arms folded, left foot impatiently tapping on the ground.

“I..do I have to?” Chaeyoung whined.

“Wow, okay first of all missy, this is your idea. You invited your friends to meet me. Now be a big girl and get out of the damn car before I drag you out.”

“But but but.”

“No buts Park. You also promised me. Now c’mon.” Suzy grabbed Chaeyoung’s left arm, forcing her out of the vehicle.

“Alright Rosie, now be cool. You got this and I’m right here okay?” Suzy patted her left arm. She can tell Chaeyoung is a nervous wreck and well she would be too considering what happened in the past, but the girl also knows that the two can’t keep avoiding each other or keeping the pretense of still being friends any longer. They both really need to just talk it out.

“Chae! Over here!” Lisa waved her arms animatedly like always. With Jisoo smiling and Jennie just staring at them.

“Uhm Hi.” Chaeyoung smiled at her friends, trying to keep all her emotions in check.

“Rosie.” Suzy hissed under her breath, they were just kind of staring at her like an animal in the zoo.

“Oh yeah uhm guys this is my friend Suzy Bae..Suzy these are my friends, Jisoo, Lisa, and Jennie.” Chaeyoung mentally patted herself on the back for not stuttering her name.

“It’s great to finally put faces to all the stories Rosie has told me.” Suzy smiled.

“Yeah.” Jisoo replied, trying to break the somewhat heavy atmosphere.

“Right, so...uhm how’d you two meet?” Lisa spoke up next, also sensing the atmosphere.

“It’s actually a funny story.” Suzy chuckled while Chaeyoung began to turn red. “This one walked in on me right when I got out of the shower. What a way to greet your roommate right.”

The story definitely seemed to break the weird atmosphere, Jisoo and Lisa already cackling in their seats, but well...Jennie was not amused. At all.

“CHAEYOUNG! You did not.” Lisa began to laugh heartily, already imagining Chaeyoung turning red at the face.

“Oh she did, and her hair was still red at the time, so her entire head was literally red.”

“I was not expecting you to be there okay! You didn’t have anything in the dorm room!” Chaeyoung huffed, feeling her ears turn red at the memory. Glad that the air felt lighter, even though it had to happen with that particular story.

“Yeah cause unlike someone, I unpacked my things. Sorry I didn’t have beddings yet. But you should have knocked.”

“The door was unlocked and I didn’t hear you on the other side.”

“Right okay.” Suzy teased.

“I never win against you.” Chaeyoung pouted.

“You know I always win Rosie posie.” Suzy scrunched her nose at the girl.

“So, you guys were roommates all 4 years then? I’m sorry you had to put up with her.” Lisa teased.

“Hey! I’m a great roommate okay.”

“Right right, your singing until 2am was greeaatt.” Suzy teased.

“Excuse me, you were the one that wanted to jam out at night.”

The conversations between the girls flowed easily once the ice was broken, it was mostly Lisa, Jisoo, and Suzy that did the talking though. Chaeyoung and Jennie would say a few things here and there. The other girls noticed the tension but decided it would be best to not address it. All three of them thought the same thing: “They really need to talk.”

~ ~ ~ ~

It was a few days after the lunch date did Chaeyoung accidentally stumble upon Jennie.

“Hi.” The blonde spoke, carefully making her way to the brunette sitting up in the treehouse.

“How’d you know I was here?” Jennie asked, out of habit.

“I didn’t...I just needed a good place to think..and well this place always seemed to calm my thoughts.” Chaeyoung replied, taking the spot next to Jennie like the old times. Like when they were younger and things didn’t get so messed up.

The two sat in silence. Not an awkward one, but a more comfortable homey one. The kind of silence they shared as children and teens up on the treehouse late into the night. A comforting silence.

They sat there for a while. One waiting for the other to either run away again or to finally talk. While the other was once again battling within herself on what to do. The dream from many nights ago still haunts her.

“Jennie..”Chaeyoung finally spoke up. Turning her head briefly to the side, Jennie glanced at Chaeyoung before turning her attention back to the night sky, “Hmm?” she questioned.

“About that night..

“What night?” Jennie feigned ignorance, memories of what occurred that evening and its aftermath coming back to her in vivid detail.

“Th-th-that night..before I left..uhm..” Chaeyoung stuttered, the memories coming back to her as well.

“You mean the night we slept together right here in this treehouse and then you practically calling it all a mistake the next day after we woke up. Yes I remember Chaeyoung. I remember quite well.” Jennie looked at the girl.

“Jennie..” Chaeyoung sighed, “It..it’s not like that. It wasn’t like that..I..”

“Then what is it? God Chaeyoung do you know how much it hu..” Jennie shut her eyes, stopping the tears. She thought she had forgotten it all but the pain was still there.

Jennie snuggled into Chaeyoung’s warm embrace, letting the girl’s steady heartbeat lull her slowly to sleep.

“Jenjen?” Chaeyoung called out to the girl, but she was already in deep sleep. Chaeyoung’s gaze softened the longer she stared at the sleeping body in her arms. Still can’t believe what happened moments ago. They kissed and then it turned into more.

“I would really like to know the exact moment I fell for you.” Chaeyoung spoke, while she lightly ran her hand through Jennie’s hair, “Maybe it was when we were children? Or was it later. I really wish I knew, so I can remember that memory forever.”

Chaeyoung wanted to say more, but the light from Jennie’s phone caught her attention.

Hey babe, you sleeping?

If you are goodnight.

Ah also...I love you Jen.

And the text messages from Lisa was all it took for Chaeyoung to once again be harshly reminded that Jennie is not and will never be hers. That what just happened was probably from the heat of the moment, but still...the girl wanted to treasure it.

“Just for tonight….let me pretend that you love me too.” Chaeyoung whispered, placing a lingering kiss on Jennie’s forehead before allowing herself to fall asleep.

Jennie woke up first, still snuggled into Chaeyoung’s arms. She noticed they were both fully clothed.

“Of course.” Jennie smiled, gazing at the sleeping girl, “Good morning.” She greeted, unable to keep the urge from kissing the girl’s lips. Which managed to stir her awake.

“Hi.” Jennie spoke softly as Chaeyoung opened her eyes, expecting a sweet reply, but that didn’t happen, instead Chaeyoung woke up from her beautiful dream.

“Jenjen..” Chaeyoung looked at Jennie and her mind thinking of what they both did behind Lisa’s back. Unable to take the guilt, Chaeyoung quickly got up.

“Chae?” Jennie was confused, watching as Chaeyoung paced around the treehouse, biting her lower lip nervously.

“Hey Chae, stop what’s going on?” Jennie finally got up and held Chaeyoung by her shoulders.

“I..I’m so sorry.” Chaeyoung cried, the guilt consuming her body whole, “This..this shouldn’t have happened..” Chaeyoung closed her eyes, unable to look Jennie in the eye as she said those words. And running off before the brunette could say anything back.

“It wasn’t like that please believe me..” Chaeyoung scooted closer to Jennie.

“Then tell me Chae..because it was my first time and I gave it to you but you just..” Jennie cried, starting to sob.

“I felt so guilty Jen. You and Lisa are together and we just did that behind her back! I couldn’t even look at her at the airport when they dropped me off and I till now I can barely look her in the eyes. But I don’t regret it. Not a single bit. It was only that night, but I cherished that night so much, because at least I could have pretended you were mine. That you..” Chaeyoung swallowed, there was no stopping now.

“That I what Chae?”

“That you loved me too. Jennie I..I was in love with you.”

“I...huh?” Jennie was not expecting the sudden confession, but boy did it make her heart go crazy, but the wording bothered her.

“Was?” She questioned before her mind could catch up to her, “So..you don’t love me anymore?” Jennie asked, looking absolutely dejected.

“I...I” Chaeyoung took a moment. It’s been about 2 years since Chaeyoung began to tell everyone, well Suzy, that she’s over Jennie..but when said girl asks her straight out like that. Well, it’s making it hard for Chaeyoung to deny the truth.

“I..I can’t answer that.” Chaeyoung turned away, unable to look at the shorter girl, afraid she might repeat the same thing again.

“NO!” Jennie yelled out, forcing Chaeyoung to look back at her again, “You don’t get to do this to me again Chae. I’m not letting you. So tell me, do you still love me?” Jennie pushed, her eyes not leaving Chaeyoung’s gaze.

“Jen..please..I..can’t answer that without hurting Li…” Chaeyoung was rudely cut off with Jennie’s lips on hers. The shock and surprise lasted a nanosecond, because soon Chaeyoung found herself kissing the girl back, her arms snaking around Jennie’s waist pulling her closer. It’s been years since they first kissed, but damn did it feel nice to have Jennie’s lips on hers again.

“You were saying?” Jennie asked, slightly panting.

“Ugh not again.” Chaeyoung took a few steps back from Jennie, ruffling her hair in frustration.

Chaeyoung’s reaction was too cute for Jennie, especially with her lips slightly swollen from their heated makeout session.

“Trust me Chae..you didn’t betray anyone.” She chuckled, finally understanding the truth.

“What are you talking about? We just did that..” Chaeyoung got shy all of a sudden.

“What? Kiss?” Jennie was enjoying teasing the girl, but when it looked like the blonde was about to cry, Jennie stopped her teasing, “I’m sorry Chae...look I think it’s time I tell you something.” Jennie took Chaeyoung’s hand and gently led the girl back to her little spot.

“So...you see..”

“Hey, why’d you ask me to meet you here so late?” Jennie asked.

“I just..wanted to see you. Is that wrong?” Lisa asked, smiling up at the girl, “Come here sit with me.” Lisa patted the spot next to her up in the treehouse.

“Hmm so what’s going on in that head of yours?” Jennie asked, leaning her head on Lisa’s shoulder.

“Nothing..I just..wanted to see what it was like.”

“What is?”

“To sit here with you, like this. And just enjoy each other’s presence.”

“Huh?” Jennie was confused.

“Just give me 10 minutes to savor this, then I’ll tell you why I called you up here.”

“Your being weird Lili what’s going on?” Jennie turned to her girlfriend.

“It’s nothing, really. Just stay.” Lisa smiled widely, placing an arm around Jennie’s shoulder, and gently guided Jennie’s head back onto her shoulder with her free hand, “Just for 10 minutes.”

Lisa was looking at Jennie so sincerely, the girl couldn’t deny her request.

“Did you know.” Lisa began to speak, after her 10 minutes ended, “Ever since we were kids, there would be times that I would come up here at night because I left something behind or I needed to think; but when I do, I would often find you and Chae already here. Just sitting here like this. And everytime I see you two, I always wondered what it would be like..to do that with you. So thank you for giving me this.” Lisa turned her head to Jennie, a small smile on her lips.

“What are…”

“Wait let me speak first okay?” Lisa spoke softly, tucking a loose strand of Jennie’s hair behind her ear, “I’ve lost count of how many times I’ve come up here seeing you two just sitting here in silence, sometimes talking, sometimes reading books together, sometimes Chae is playing her guitar, sometimes when you cry. It seemed to always be like that. Chaeyoung always noticed all the little details with you. It made me feel like a bad best friend sometimes, like how come I didn’t see, know, or notice that. But you know what, I’ve noticed something recently...and it’s made me realize something.” Lisa paused, intertwining her hand with Jennie’s, “I finally realized how Chae was able to notice all these things about you. Do you know what it is?”

Jennie stayed mum, having an inkling on where Lisa is taking this conversation.

“She would always be watching over you quietly. Being there whenever you may need something, even if it’s as small as handing you a tissue when you have a runny nose.” Lisa chuckled lightly, masking her pain with joy, “At first I just thought that it’s just usual Chae y’know, caring and sweet, but then I realized that her eyes would always be on you. That’s when it hit me...that she’s in-love with you.”

“W-what?”

“Yeah, and you’re in-love with her too right?”

“I-I-I...I’m not.” Jennie lied.

“C’mon Jen, Chae may be the one that notices everything, but give me some credit too. I came up here a few weeks ago, and I saw you two up here. Chae was sleeping and you were just watching her. Squatting down, leaning your chin on your hands with a soft smile on your face, eyes gazing at her softly. I was about to scare you, but right when I was about to pop-out, you reached a hand out gently tracing her cheek with your thumb before getting up and placing her cardigan over you. The way you looked at her that night and the way you always look at her when she’s not looking is the same way she always looks at you...like you mean the world to her.”

“Lisa..” Jennie felt the guilt rise up her body, “I...I’m sorry...I tried to feel more for you..but I just love you as a friend.”

“I know and I’m sorry too...for holding onto something that shouldn’t even be mine. That’s why I called you up here...let’s break up Jen.” Lisa smiled widely.

“I..what?”

“I said let’s break up. Just be best friends like before.”

“Lisa..”

“C’mon Jen, you know we meshed better as friends anyway. Plus are you really going to deny what you really feel for Chae?”

“I....”

“Hey I said it’s fine really. Best friends?” Lisa smiled, putting a hand out.

“Always.” Jennie smiled, taking Lisa’s hand and shaking it, “Also, did you really have to break up with me with such a big smile.” Jennie teased, easing the serious tension, and Lisa laughed along.

Yeah, they really are better off as best friends.

~

“Wait wait so you guys broke up the night before that night happened?”

“Yes, I mean why would I let you kiss me and well you know.. if I was still in a relationship. You should have known me better than that Chae.” Jennie was disappointed at the blonde.

“Jen you can’t...ugh don’t do that. Stop that.” Chaeyoung avoided Jennie’s gaze.

“Do what?”

“That thing with your eyes. Stop it.”

“Why?” Jennie replied, smirking.

“Because...when you give me that look it makes me want to risk it all for you.”

“Then I should definitely keep looking at you like this.”

“Now your teasing. Jeez. I..look Jen, yes I have feelings for you, but don’t worry...I’ll get over them, you won’t have another repeat of the past.” Chaeyoung tried to assure the girl, which is starting to frustrate Jennie.

“Really Chae, after everything that’s happened between us then and just a few moments ago, you're still going to try to push me away. God, for someone so smart you can be so stupid.”

“Huh?”

“Are you serious right now? I mean are you pranking me.”

“Jen, I really don’t…” and once again, Jennie shut the blonde up with her lips.

“God Chae, I love you too. I am in love with you too. Is that clear enough for you now?”

“Very.” Chaeyoung replied, breathless.

“Good.” Jennie smiled, wrapping her arms around Chaeyoung’s waist, resting her head on the taller girl’s chest.

“I missed you, a lot.” Chaeyoung whispered, returning the hug, slightly swaying their bodies to the side.

“I did too. Promise me you’ll never ever leave me?”

“I promise, only if you promise never to take the bus when it’s raining.”

“Huh?”

“Just..promise me.”

“I promise.”
