Chapter 28
The Mafia's QueenKris rolled up his sleeves and placed his elbows on the table. His fingers cross and he looked at everyone sitting at the table. It’s been hours and the meeting was going nowhere until he answered their question. They only wanted to know about one person, Haneul. Kris looked towards Kibum, he has been out of it since the meeting started. Kris wasn’t sure but he felt like Kibum was hiding something.
“When will Haneul be coming back.” Mr. Choi said.
“We know that she’s back but you’ve been locking her in.” Mr. No said.
“We need her back. Nothing went right since you stepped up.” Mr. Lee said.
“You need to step down, you’ve done nothing to helped us gain anything at all.” Mr. Jung said.
Kris slammed his fist on the table and everyone went quiet.
“That doesn’t matter right now. What really matters is how we are going to solve this issue.” Kris said.
Kris pointed his hand at the board on his right side. He stood up and walked over to the board. He pointed to the picture in the middle of all the writing. He hated to see that face, he hated the way he smirked. Kris turned to face everyone in the room, his expression was cold.
“We need to find Jaeseok and get rid of him,” Kris said.
Everyone remained silent and their eyes never leaving him.
“Jaeseok is right under our noses and he managed to almost get rid of Haneul,” Kris said.
Everyone was in shock and Kris looked at everyone in the room. He made sure to look into each and every one of their eyes.
“If I find out that anyone in this room is supporting him or had supported him, I will not spare you,” Kris said.
Kibum took a gulp, he wondered of Kris was referring to him but at the same time, he wanted to see how Haneul was.
“We’re nothing without her,” Kris admitted.
“You’re right, that’s why we need her to come back.” Mr. Jung said.
“You’re not worth being the leader.” Mr. Lee said.
“Tell Haneul to come here know.” Mr. Choi said.
“Haneul doesn't deserve to come back. If she left us, why come back?” Mr. No said.
“Haneul can come back!” Mr. Choi said.
“She is the sole reason we still exist.” Mr. Jung said.
“Stop trying to make it seem like she did only bad.” Mr. Lee said.
“She left us, abandoned us and let this incapable thing take over.” Mr. No said.
Kris didn’t know what to say and looked towards Gramps, he nodded back. Gramps raised his hand, no one caught sight of it since they were all too busy arguing.
“Silence!” Gramps yelled.
Everyone stopped and turned to face Gramps, who took his seat.
“Right now, Haneul is not…”
Mr. Jung hit the table and stood up pointing his finger at Gramps.
“There have been rumors of Haneul’s memory loss traveling around. Is it true?” Mr. Jung asked.
Gramps looked up at Mr. Jung and shook his head.
“The rumors are true,” Gramps said.
Kris looked over at him in confusion, before they arrived they planned to keep Haneul’s condition a secret and let the rumors run wild. Kris stood up and placed both hands on the table and leaned forward.
“The doctor said it may take up to a year to remember her memories,” Kris said.
Mr. No placed his hand on his forehead and sighed.
“We’re doomed, he’s going to take over us.” Mr. No said.
Mr. Choi looked up at Gramps, he shook his head.
“Haneul was like my own daughter, I feel sorry for her.” Mr. Choi said.
Gramps shook his head and closed his eyes. He imagined all the times he had spent with Haneul and felt like the past few years was what he regretted the most.
“That’s why we are going to make sure she doesn't even remember about this life. I want her to return to the time before she got involved in all this business. She deserves better after she lost her parents and brother.” Gramps said.
Mr. No stood up and shook his head.
“I don’t agree on that, she made a promise to us and she needs to keep up that promise.” Mr. No said.
Mr. Choi looked over to Mr. No and shook his head.
“It’s already like this, we should let her go.” Mr. Choi said.
“I agree, Haneul is already useless. We need to move on, we can’t keep waiting for her.” Mr. Jung said.
“She can take over once she regains her memories. Let’s focus on building our gangs and making them into better shape when Haneul comes and takes it back.” Mr. Lee said.
Gramps nodded his head in approval, Kris knew they were right.
“We’ll rebuild and make ourselves strong her again. Once she remembers and wants to take over again. I will let her without hesitation, no one can replace her spot.” Kris said.
Kris looked to Kibum, he had not said any single word during the whole meeting. People were leaving the room and Kris bowed to Gramps.
“I will be leaving now,” Gramps said.
“Get home safely,” Kris said.
Kris turned and grabbed his suit jacket, he put it on. He pulled his phone out and saw two missed calls. One from Haneul and the other from Juno, he wondered why Juno was calling. He was about to dial when he saw the reflection of Kibum on his phone. He looked up and slid his phone into his jacket.
“Kibum,” Kris said.
“Kris, how is Haneul these days?” Kibum asked.
