You surprise me

No one's POV:

"Camping?" Kyungsoo asked at lunch after Jongin had told him and Yixing about the poster that had just been put up outside the headmaster's office
"Yep, sometime in January after winter holiday is over" Jongin replied
"But it's still really cold in January... we'll freeze to death!" Kyungsoo exclaimed
"Won't they put us in cabins then instead of tents?" Yixing asked and Jongin shrugged his shoulders.

"All the information I know was read from that poster" he said and went back to his lunch. Cue a group of guys walking past their table, pausing to stare at Kyungsoo before walking away muttering things to each other and laughing
"Why won't you tell someone about what those guys are saying and doing to you?" Jongin asked
"Because it'll only cause more trouble" Kyungsoo replied
"Plus I've learnt to live with it now. It doesn't bother me so I don't see why it should bother you so much" he added before Yixing or Jongin could in and say something.

.....

At this school, students were required to learn two languages, one week they would be learning English and the next week they would be learning Mandarin... which was awkward for Yixing; seeing as he was already fluent in the language. Originally, headmaster Park was going to try and organise a way in which Yixing could take extra English lessons whilst the others learnt Mandarin. It was not to be that way, Andy was out on those days teaching a bunch of five year olds how to count up to ten so, unfortunately, Yixing was going to have to spend those lessons in another classroom with another teacher doing other pieces of work... such fun!

"Where are you today?" Jongin asked and Yixing frowned
"I was told earlier to go to the staff room" he replied
"Why there? Students aren't usually allowed in there" Kyungsoo asked and Yixing shrugged his shoulders
"Maybe my teacher just wants to meet there before we go somewhere else" he replied and said goodbye to the other two before he turned in the opposite direction and made his way to the staff room.

Halfway down the hall, Yixing realised that he had no idea where the staff room was. He had only been in the school for three weeks and didn't know where it was because he thought he wouldn't need to know where it was! Asking the receptionist for the correct directions, he restarted his journey and when he finally found himself at the correct place, took a deep breath in and knocked on the door.

"Come in" came a voice and Yixing paused, he recognised that voice. When he finally walked in, Joonmyeon looked up from his work and smiled
"I was wondering where you went" he said and Yixing sighed
"I had no idea where this room was so I had to ask for directions" he replied and remained standing by the door, waiting for Joonmyeon to get up.

"You can sit down you know" Joonmyeon said and Yixing frowned
"We're not going to another class?" he asked
"Nope. Besides, the chairs are a lot more comfier here than in my class" Joonmyeon replied and with that Yixing closed the door, walked over to where Joonmyeon was sitting and sat down across from him.

"Do you have any work to do?" Joonmyeon asked
"Just some maths and the work you set us the other day" Yixing replied and Joonmyeon nodded
"There's a computer over in the corner if you should need it. Sorry this isn't as exciting as you hoped it would be" he said and went back to his work whilst Yixing started working on his maths homework.

The one positive thing that Yixing could find from sitting in a room doing work whilst everyone else was learning his native tongue, was that at least he could get homework done and didn't have to worry about finishing it last minute like most people *cough* Jongin *cough*. When he eventually finished his maths work, he decided a break was needed and laid back in his seat to stretch, looking up to see Joonmyeon reading a book. A Chinese book at that.

"You can understand the book?" he asked as Joonmyeon looked up and nodded
"I've only just started reading it, but it's really good so far" he replied before noticing the look on Yixing's face
"What?" he asked
"You understand Mandarin?" Yixing asked and Joonmyeon smiled
"I'm pretty fluent in it" he replied and Yixing's eyes widened. Since when could his science teacher speak another language?

"How?" he asked
"Well just like what you're doing now, I was also an exchange student. I stayed in Beijing for a year with someone called Luhan. At first we couldn't understand each other at all... now he's one of my best friends" Joonmyeon replied and smiled at the memories
"During my stay, he and his parents taught my the language and I had a few classes after school whilst Luhan attended extra math classes. I still don't understand most of what is being said though, like this" he finished showing Yixing a section of a paragraph he couldn't understand.

"I tried to scream and get people to notice that I was there, that I needed help but they wouldn't listen to me" he read before frowning, he's never read that book before
"Weird sentence" he said
"Well you need to read the story to get the jist of what's going on" Joonmyeon replied and got back to reading the book. Yixing sat there watching him, Joonmyeon surprised him. A lot.

He was surprised as to how Joonmyeon just spoke to him normally and not in a way that suggested he was the teacher, he should have more power. He was surprised that Joonmyeon actually took into account that Yixing wouldn't want to spend the lesson working in a cold classroom with uncomfortable chairs so moved him to the staff room instead.

"You surprise me" Yixing blurted out, his eyes widening
"How so?" Joonmyeon asked, looking up from his book
"I don't know you're just... too nice" Yixing replied and Joonmyeon frowned
"Do I take that as a compliment?" he asked as a teacher walked into the room.

"I'm sorry but I thought students weren't allowed in here" they said as Joonmyeon put his book down and nodded
"They're not but headmaster Park arranged for Yixing to have a lesson in here whilst other students take part in a lesson he cannot do" Joonmyeon began
"Besides, not only has he been doing his work, he's also been helping me polish up on my Mandarin" he added and the other teacher nodded and left it at that.

Yep, by the time Yixing left that room he had decided that Joonmyeon was just too nice.
