Chapter 2

My pencil wobbled dangerously under the grip of my hand.
This is insane. As soon as Daniel entered the class five minutes ago, he came over and sat right on the empty seat beside me. And Mrs Ganders, our art teacher, didn't even do any thing about it. In fact, she looked over at us and even smiled.
As soon as the lesson started she told all of us to sketch our favorite Disney character.
Seriously, I'm doing my best at drawing Goofy. Most girls would draw Minnie Mouse, but not for me. Minnie Mouse is just being pretty and cute. I know Goofy is a down right idiot but I like him way better.
Daniel, the ultimate distraction that's concerning me now, is drawing Peter Pan. Fairy dust and all.
Normally during art, I finish drawing in thirty minutes flat. But after fifteen minutes had passed, I'm still working my off Goofy's ears. Mainly during to this overly handsome guy beside me.
To be honest, Daniel is smart. He just doesn't chooses to study. He does well in Art and Korean because he is naturally good.
I knocked the side of my head mentally. Concentrate Chaerin. I told myself.
"You're drawing Goofy?" Daniel laughed.
"Yeah." I muttered. Blushing like the setting sun.
"But he's an idiot."
"I like idiots." I smile. And he smirks back.
Disappointingly, he didn't make plans to sit together for lunch when the lesson ended.
My backpack was near bursting, so I carried my lecture pad and pencil case in my arm. Carefully balancing my pencil case on top of the lecture pad as I walked to French class.
I was nearing the door of my French class when suddenly, a bunch of idiots rushed past me, nearly knocking my backpack off my shoulders.
"Hey!" I yelled, stumbling a little. And of course my stupid pencil case had to jump off the lecture pad, tumbling itself to the floor. To make it a hundred times worse, I had forgot to close the zip, spilling every pen and marker across the floor.
I scrambled, grabbing everything that's within my reach. When I thought I've gathered everything, I stood up and dusted off my pants.
"Excuse me." A smooth male voice said. I spun around and was met with a guy with light blonde hair, with a look of confusion on his face.
He holds out my unique Eiffel Tower pen, a souvenir gifted from my cousin.
"Is this yours?" He asks.
"Yes, I think I dropped it. Thanks." I mumbled.
"No problem. Hey aren't you in my art class?"
"Am I?" I asked incredulously. I know everyone in my classes, but I have not seen him before, I'm sure of it.
"Yeah, I just transferred in today." Oh, I was paying too much attention to Daniel to notice.
"Really? Where are you from?" I asks.
"I'm from Paris, France." He smiles.
"Wow. You speak pretty good Korean for someone like that." I mused.
"My father is Korean. And he makes me speak Korean every day at home." He shrugs. "What's your name?"
"Lee Chaerin." I extends a hand.
"Kwon Ji Yong." And instead of shaking my hand, he held it and planted a kiss on the back of my hand.
"Uhh..." I stuttered. Not sure of what to do. Oh my gosh why did he just kiss my hand?
"Actually in our country the traditional way to greet someone is to kiss their cheek, but I don't want to make you feel embarrassed. But since I've done that, you're officially my friend now." He grins.
"Pleasure." I laugh. "Are you in this French class too?"
"Yeah." He answers.
"Then get ready to score. Our French courses are super easy. Even I can get a A-." I kidded.
This Ji Yong guy studies my pen for a while before handing it back. "You must really like Paris."
"Yeah I do." I'm not lying, Paris is one of my favourite countries. "I heard its called the city of romance or something."
"The city of love." Ji Yong corrected me. "It's really a wonderful place. You must visit it one day."
I nodded. "Alright."
We both headed into class. Where Ms Kazzan(French people like to give themselves weird english names for some reason) gave us a test. To be honest I didn't really study much.
"I failed. I can already tell." Minzy grumbled to me. She is in most of my classes except Art and Korean. Dara takes German instead of French.
"Me too." I nods in agreement. "I can't remember what is 'Do you have a sister?' in French.
"'avez-vous une sœur?'" A voice said from behind.
I turned. "Oh hi Ji...." Oh no, I forgot his name.
"It's Ji Yong." He does a little smile.
"Oh! Ji Yong, right." I said, mentally telling myself to remember his name. "So that's how you say that? 'Do you have a sister?'"
Ji Yong nods. "avez-vous une sœur?"
"Actually I do have a sister." I laugh.
Ji Yong smiles.
"Uh Chaerin, who's that?" Minzy whispered from behind.
I turn and cleared my throat. Looks like its time to introduce people. But before I could say anything, Ji Yong raises his hand, stopping me.
"Allow me to introduce myself." He smile to Minzy. "I'm Kwon Ji Yong, I'm from Paris, France. And I just transferred in today. Your turn."
Minzy took a humongous breath, as if she was diving underwater or something. "Hello, I'm Gong Minzy. And I like Chocolate waffles...not chocolate but chocolate waffles. Um I mean I don't like chocolate, but I like chocolate waffles. If you know what I mean." She said huffily.
I almost giggled. Minzy gets all nervous when she introduces herself.
Ji Yong took her hand and gave it a kiss. Minzy's face was a look of surprise, followed by a blush.
"That's our way of greeting people. But the actual way is to kiss their cheek, not their hand." Ji Yong grins.
Minzy's face turned pink.
"Have you made any friends?" Somehow, I was genuinely concerned about him.
"Yes." He said with a happy smile. "I forgot to bring my pencil, and this guy sitting beside me lend me his."
"That's great. Do you know his name?"
"I think it's..." Ji Yong furrowed his brows. "I think it's Taeyang or something."
"Taeyang!" Minzy exclaimed.
Ji Yong stared at her blankly. "Why? Do you know him?"
"Sure we do." I winked at Minzy. This is gonna be fun.
Ji Yong is still staring at us with a confused look.
"Look, did he ask you to sit with him during lunch?" I asked.
Ji Yong nodded. "Yeah, why?"
"Meet us at table 7. Remember to bring Taeyang along." I almost ordered.
"Why?" Ji Yong asked again.
"You'll see." I winked at Minzy again.
After French, we still have one more period before lunch, and that is Math. The only class that all Dara, Minzy and I have.
Our math teacher returned us the test paper we did last week. Minzy, being the smart kid she is, topped the class. I was fourth, I think.
"I got 73!" Dara exclaimed. "This I the first time I'm scoring so high."
Both me and Minzy congratulated Dara. Usually she either fails, or a just pass.
I got 88. Not that I'm complaining but my math never falls below 90. Minzy got 94, that little smart .
"Looks like this day is gonna be good for you, Dara." Minzy said, giving me a little smile.
"Yeah." Dara agreed. "I have a feeling something good is gonna happen later."
I winked at Minzy. "Maybe you'll get a surprise at lunch."
Before Dara could say anything, the bell rang. Lunch is finally here.
"C'mon! Lets go." Minzy grabbed hold of Dara's right arm while I grabbed the left.
"You two are really weird today." Dara said while studying us carefully.
"Are we?" I asked innocently as we settled down at Table 7. Now where is Taeyang and Ji Yong?
Minzy's eyes suddenly widened. I felt a kick under my table. Immediately, I whipped around. Good, Ji Yong had been obedient and brought Tae Yang along.
Dara is still eating. Totally oblivious that Taeyang is walking towards our table.
"Hi Chaerin and Minzy." Ji Yong greeted cheerfully. Then he pointed to Dara. "Who's that?"
Dara turned. "I'm Da-" then she gasped loudly when she saw Taeyang.
"She's Dara." Taeyang finished for her, which made Dara's cheek even redder.
Ji Yong came over and sat right beside Minzy, who is opposite me. Taeyang sat opposite Dara.
Even though its unwanted, an awkward silence soon settles into place.
"So, it's great to know so many friends on my first day of school." Ji Yong said, thoughtfully breaking the silence.
"So who are your most favourite people that you have met so far?" Taeyang asked jokingly. "Is it me?"
Ji Yong nodded. "Yeah well, you and Chaerin and Minzy."
"What about me?" Dara said, pretending to pout. I rolled my eyes. Sometimes it just gets on my nerves when Dara tries to act all cute in front of Taeyang.
Which somehow worked because Taeyang leaned over and pinched Dara's nose.
Taeyang likes Dara, and Dara likes Taeyang. But both of them are so uncertain when you ask them.
The bell rang, signaling the end of lunch break. All of us stood up.
"Well, I hope to see you guys around sometime." Ji Yong said genuinely.
"Of course we will. We're in French together, remember?" Minzy said.
"Let's hope to bump into each other in today's classes. Maybe you'll be in more of our classes" I smiled. Ji Yong seems like a really nice person.
"Well, Dara. See you later in computer class?" Taeyang asked. Seriously? You seriously can't see that she already likes you?
"Yeah, okay. I'll look forwardto it." said Dara, blushing into the color of beet root.
When both Ji Yong and Taeyang were gone, Dara pounced on us.
"Who is he? And why does he know Taeyang?"
"He's name is Ji Yong." I snapped, still irritated at Dara's attepmt to act cute. "He is in my Art, Korean and French class."
"Why does he know Taeyang?"
"Isn't it obvious? He is in the same homeroom as Taeyang." Minzy said.
Dara giggled. "I think he likes Minzy."
Minzy's face turned a bright red. "No, why would you say something like that?"
"He sat right next to you Min! There's a seat beside Chaerin but he sat next to you instead!"
I felt a bit offended. They are having a conversation about me, without me?!
Minzy waved a hand. "That doesn't mean anything."
I felt a bit envy of Minzy. Not that I like Ji Yong...it's just...I met Ji Yong first and Minzy got to know Ji Yong thanks to me. And now Dara is pairing them up as a couple?
I tried to calm myself down. Next period is Korean Chaerin, you'll get to see Daniel there.
Yep, Daniel again. I wonder what is up his sleeve now.
