Strong Willed

Minzy was relieved with how the atmosphere at home changed. In her own right, television time was quality time with her father. It wasn't much, but it was better than before. She figured out that he had a larger range in vocabulary outside of insults and swear words. Grinning as her father complained about all the chaos going on in the world, she watched him talk her ear off. Hearing the knock at the door, Minzy rose to her feet curiously. It was too early for Seunghyun to come by to help her father get into bed. Opening the door, she was surprised to see Zelo standing there was a sheepish grin on his face.

"Zelo, what are you doing here and why are you ringing the door bell at your own house," Minzy chuckled in surprise.

He shrugged as he shifted from side to side, "I just...I wanted to come and see dad."

"Grandma let you out early?"

"Yeah, she said it was okay and I have all my homework done as well," he added. "Are you okay with me seeing him? If you don't want me to..."

"Come," Minzy spoke up and took him by the hand. "Dad look who came to see you," Minzy called as she announced their entrance revealing Zelo to him.

"Zelo," Mr. Gong breathed in shock. "You're a giant."

Zelo laughed as he knelt beside his father's wheelchair, "It's good to see you too." Minzy couldn't help the smile that spread across her face seeing the two happily interact.

"And make sure your father is tucked in on all sides before he goes rolling onto the ground," Seunghyun instructed Zelo as he tucked the blankets underneath Mr. Gong.

"It's too tight," Mr. Gong grumbled.

"And of course your father will let you know if it's not right," Seunghyun teased as he gave the blankets some slack. "Got it," he asked Zelo who quickly nodded with a smile. Meanwhile Minzy was in the kitchen making some hot chocolate, taking the hot cup towards the kitchen table to warm her up for her studies. "Alright I'm going to head out. Your father is all set for the night," Seunghyun called out to her.

"Sweet, thank you. Would you like some hot chocolate before you leave," Minzy asked as she got up to make him a cup.

"That sounds great, especially since it's starting to get cold out," Seunghyun grinned as he took a seat at the table looking over her notes. "I see you're getting a head start with next weeks assignments?"

Nodding, she placed his cup in front of him before taking her seat, "Yeah, I just want to make sure I stay on top of it you know? Anyway, thanks for helping my dad this week. I think now that Zelo knows how to tuck my dad in he can take over. I really appreciate it."

"Yeah don't mention it. It was nothing," he shrugged it off.

"Well it wasn't nothing to me," she said giving him a grateful grin.

He matched her grin and nodded, "I know." There was a peaceful silence between them as they both sipped on their drinks. Neither one expecting such a moment, but both enjoying it nevertheless. It was Seunghyun who broke the silence after downing his cup. "You still make the best hot chocolate."

"Thanks," she chuckled as she watched him take his cup to the sink.

"I'll see you at the game tomorrow," he asked as he placed his hands into his pocket.

Nodding she shrugged, "Yeah, tell your parents to save my seat."

"Don't worry they're planning on it," he said knowingly.

Waving she watched him take his leave, "I'll see you tomorrow then."

"Good night Minzy," he waved back as he left.

"What was that," Zelo asked as he walked into the kitchen.

"What was what," Minzy asked as she watched her brother take the seat Seunghyun was in.

Rolling his eyes he gave her a questioning look, "Are you and Seunghyun..."

Scoffing at her younger brother's accusation she glanced down at her homework, "On talking terms? Yes."

"Talking as in like in the works of dating again or what," he had to ask to clarify.

Sighing she shook her head, "Talking as in we can now have a normal conversation without it turning into an arguement?"

"What about Bom," Zelo added.

"What about her," she was the one rolling her eyes. "What her and Seunghyun have is none of my business and it should be the same for you."

"I'm just asking since you've basically been keeping me away from everyone," Zelo said in his defense.

Sighing she nodded and placed her hand upon his arm, "I'm sorry. You're right, that's unfair of me to snap at you. Seunghyun and I are no longer fighting. At least on my part and I want it to stay like that."

"So..." Zelo nudged her as if there had to more to that statement.

"So...I guess you can say we're on good terms and I'm planning to keep it like that," Minzy gave her brother a knowing smile to not push it.

"Fine," he sighed as he put his hands up. "I guess that's a start."

Minzy couldn't help but smile and wave as she rushed over towards the Chois. Embracing Mrs. Choi tightly, she gazed over to Mr. Choi and smiled, "Hi Mr. Choi. It's good to see you."

"Good to see you as well," Mr. Choi looked at her with a loving fatherly smile. "Let's go find our seats before it gets crowded."

Nodding, she walked hooked to the hip of Mrs. Choi. "I bet this game is going to be even more crowded with school in session," Mrs. Choi gleefully spoke.

Taking her rightful place between the couple, she couldn't help but laugh at Mrs. Choi eyeing the opposing team. "It should be an easy win, at least that's what they're saying," Minzy said trying to reassure her. Gazing around, Minzy subconsciously found herself staring back at Bom who stood glaring with Fei.

"What are you looking at darling," Mrs. Choi asked as she followed Minzy's gaze.

Shaking her head, Minzy turned her attention towards the court, "Nothing."

"Honey I forgot my wallet will you be a dear and give me some money to go grab some snacks," Mrs. Choi asked as she put out her hand. Without a word, his wallet was in her hands as he stayed quietly observing Seunghyun warming up. "Treats on me," Mrs. Choi said patting Minzy's lap before standing.

Following Mrs. Choi out, she was surrpised to see Mino standing before her, "Hey you made it!"

Gazing up, she couldn't help but smile as she could see he was trying to breathe after trying to catch up with her, "Yeah I did."

"Who is this," Mrs. Choi asked suspiciously.

"Mrs. Choi right? I'm Mino, Seunghyun's teammate," he bowed respectfully. "Nice to meet you."

"Nice to meet you too," she spoke with caution.

Returning his gaze back towards Minzy, he sighed, "I'll see you after the game?"

"Sure," Minzy quickly said knowing Mrs. Choi was watching intensely. "I'll see you after the game."

"Cool," Mino simply said before jogging off to head back to the court.

"Interesting," Mrs. Choi chimed as she stood watching the young man leave.

Sighing, Minzy hooked her arm with Mrs. Choi's and walked them towards the concession stands, "There's nothing interesting about that."

"Right," Mrs. Choi spoke as she got in line.

Not wanting to answer the oncoming questions, Minzy quickly excused herself. Rushing into the restroom, she splashed cool water onto her face and stared at herself in the mirror. Inwardly groaning at the sight of Bom and Fei entering. She looked down and began to wash her hands. "Well, well, well..." Bom smirked as she folded her arms over her chest with Fei mimicking her.

Not acknowledging their presence, she began to dry her hands. She made a mental note to use the restroom before hand since it seems to be a hot spot for their meet ups. Turning to leave, she sighed as Bom blocked the exit. "What," she rolled her eyes.

"You came with Seunghyun's parents? Really," Bom shook her head. "How pathetic." she scoffed.

"Seunghyun and I dated remember? The Chois were like my second family. But I shouldn't have to explain that to Fei. She should've known that," Minzy simply said as she tried to push past Bom who held her ground. Sighing Minzy used her shoulder to push harder, sending Bom tumbling out the door and onto the floor. She didn't give another thought to Bom as she walked past the young woman laying on the ground and back towards the concessions.

"What did you want Minzy," Mrs. Choi asked as she walked up to the counter.

"I think the popcorn is good enough," Minzy nodded.

"Get back here you ," Bom growled as she spun Minzy around. "You have some ing nerve..."

"Mrs. Choi," Fei chimed in as she pulled Bom back.

"Fei," Mrs. Choi turned and gave a stern look to the young woman who held Minzy by the shoulders. "And you must be," she eyed Bom up and down.

"Umm..." Bom slowly dropped her hands and hung her head low. "I apologize. I didn't..."

"Notice that I as Seunghyun's mother was trying to have a good night with my family and Minzy here," Mrs. Choi cut in.

Minzy took Mrs. Choi's arm and gave it a light squeeze, "Let's..."

"Let me make myself clear young woman, bullies like you won't make it far in life. So please keep your hands to yourself or I will be paying your parents a nice visit," Mrs Choi spoke sharply. With her head held high, Mrs. Choi nodded towards the counter, "Minzy, be a dear and bring the snacks."

As Mrs. Choi walked away, Minzy could only shrug before grabbing the snacks to follow Mrs. Choi, "Mrs. Choi..."

"I can't believe my son would get involved with such a girl," Mrs. Choi shook her head in disbelief.

Minzy quickly manuvered in front of Mrs. Choi, causing her to stop in her tracks. Mrs. Choi never swore and when she did it led to a whirl wind of havoc. "Mrs. Choi please relax."

"Relax?! How can I relax with how that girl so effortlessly put her hands on you?! And I know that girl is the reason my son almost lost everything! He was about to give up his future for that girl and her pretend baby," Mrs. Choi huffed out of frustration. "I honestly don't know why he puts up with that girl," she shook her head.

"I don't know either, but I think the game is about to start and it's probably best that you pull yourself together. Seunghyun can always tell when something is bothering you and if he sees that you're frustrated he's going to lose focus. You and I both know that will affect how he plays. And we don't want that to happen, especially with your husband here," Minzy warned to help her calm down.

Sighing deeply, Mrs. Choi turned to cup Minzy's face, "You're so thoughtful. Thank you dear."

"You're welcome, now let's go watch the game," Minzy nodded towards the game.

As predicted, they won be a landslide. Minzy let Mr. and Mrs. Choi walk down to the court to congradulate their son while she went about cleaning up the snacks. In the midst of doing so, she was surprised by Mino picking up the popcorn and handing it to her. "Thanks," she smiled as she stood before him. "Great job today."

"Thanks did you want to go meet some of the professors I was telling you about," he breathed.

As much as she wanted, she shook her head, "No, but I do have a surprise for you."

"You do," he smiled brightly.

"Yeah, let me take you to it," she nodded as she walked out into the halls. Taking her phone out, she sent a quick text.

"I can't be long. I have a team meeting..." he froze in his tracks when they turned the corner to see Hyuna.

"What are you doing here," Hyuna hissed in disbelief.

"I should be asking you that," Mino said frustrated.

Minzy put her hands up and frowned, "Alright calm down. I didn't tell either of you because I knew you both wouldn't agree. But could you please be adults about this and talk things out. You both are stressing me out and I haven't had my first exam yet."

"There's nothing left to say," Hyuna turned away.

", don't even go there. What did we talk about the other day," Minzy eyed her knowingly.

"Minzy," Hyuna said through gritted teeth as she wiped around to glare at her.

"Hyuna please, just talk to Mino." Turning to Mino she sighed, "Can you please give my friend another chance? She's not used to getting rejected by guys."

Mino chuckled seeing Hyuna burning holes through Minzy with her eyes, "Yeah."

Though Hyuna was glaring, Minzy hugged her friend and whispered, "If you don't go after him I will."

"," Hyuna breathed making them both giggle.

Minzy smiled to herself as she walked away from the pair. She was so grateful to be miss match maker, that she didn't notice Seunghyun watching her. "Hey," Seunghyun called over to her.

Glancing his way, she stuffed her hands in her pockets and continued to walk, "Hey, good game."

"Thanks for coming," he said as he fell into step with her.

"It was my pleasure hanging out with your parents for old time sake," she smiled up at him.

"I'm indebted to you for keeping my mom distracted and out of my father's hair," he teased as he bumped into her. "My parents want to invite you to dinner with us after my team meeting."

She shrugged, knowing very much that she wanted to, "I'm not sure."

"Why not? It'll ease the tension of my father critiquing my every move," he pleaded.

"I don't think that'll be a good idea," she frowned. "I love your parents, but I don't want to push whatever is going on with us."

"And what is going on with us," he grinned.

"I have no clue. Do you," she pushed it right back. Watching him shake his head and shrug, she mimicked him, "Exactly, let's just be grateful that when we talk to each other right now that we're not arguing or hurting each other."

Seunghyun didn't realize it, until she had mentioned it, "You're right we haven't fought."

"You're so slow, I just don't know about you sometimes," she giggled as she pushed at his arm. "I can't believe you were my tutor."

Taking her hand in his to stop her teasing, he took advantage of the moment and pulled her into a tight embrace. Holding her against him, he buried his face into her hair, inhaling the soft fragrance of flowers. It was his personal bed of flowers, he loved so much and hadn't realized just how much he had missed it.

"Seunghyun," Bom squeaked at the sight before her. "What's going on here?"

Minzy couldn't believe it, but she found herself reluctantly pulling away, "What's it to you?" She was impressed to see that Seunghyun still held onto her wrist. Giving slack to her arm as if letting him know that it's okay for him to let her go, he didn't. Instead he stood, staring down at where they stood connected.

"Seunghyun, Seunghyun..." Bom cried out as she marched forward and yanked his hand away. "Seunghyun what are you doing?!"

Minzy should have felt angry with Bom, but instead she craddled her wrist in her other hand. She was too distracted by how unnerving it felt to touch Seunghyun moments ago. "I should...go..."

"Yeah..." Bom turned her focus onto Minzy.

"No," Seunghyun breathed causing both women to look at him. "No, don't go," Seunghyun spoke up as he walked towards Minzy. Squaring up with her, he stared deep into her eyes and smiled, "Please don't go."

"I..." Minzy felt herself shrinking in his presence. "Seunghyun I have to go," she looked away from his strong gaze.

"I want you to stay, but if you want to go I won't force you to stay," he said as he turned her face to look him in his eyes once more. His eyes seemed to plead for her to stay, so much so that she couldn't deny him as he gave him a slight nod.

"Seunghyun what are you doing," Bom cried with tears streaming down her face.

Minzy went quiet as Seunghyun intertwined their fingers and locking them tightly. Glancing over to Bom he shook his head, "I'm doing what I should have done long ago." Tugging at Minzy's hand, he led them away as Bom broke down on the ground. Meanwhile Minzy followed quietly, glancing back with a look of pity before turning to continue on.

Minzy sat quietly in Seunghyun's car. She had enjoyed a great night out with Seunghyun and his parents and now it was just them sitting outside of her house. The ride to her house was quiet with the music filling the air. But now that the car was turned off, the silence became a little too thick for her liking. "Well...I guess I'm gonna get going. Thanks for the ride."

"What are you doing tomorrow," he asked with a bright smile.

"Seunghyun," she sighed as she gazed towards her house. "Please don't do this."

"Come on Minzy, why not," he pleaded.

Closing her eyes, she did her best to pull it together, "We can't do this."

"We can't or you can't," he challenged her.

Biting her lower lip, she turned to look at him, "I can't."

"Why," he breathed, hurt by her rejection.

"Seunghyun what I feel for you isn't healthy," she said with a sad smile. "I've never loved anyone as hard as I've ever loved you. And when I didn't get that in return time and time again that's when I realized that I've been doing it wrong all along." Grinning to herself, she folded her arms over her chest and thought of the many tear filled nights she had cried for him. "The person I should be loving first is myself and I seem to keep forgetting that when I'm with you."

"So how can we fix this," Seunghyun said with tears filling his eyes.

"As much as I want this, I know now that my needs must come first. I love you Seunghyun," her voice broke as she felt her tears filling her eyes. "I love you and I love myself enough to say that enough is enough. We're no good for each other. So let us go our separate ways calling it a truce. A truce that we can wish each other well in what life has in store for us separately."

Wiping at his eyes, Seunghyun shook his head, "Man, I really ed this up."

As much as she wanted to reach out to him, she held strong, "We both did."

"There's no turning back," Seunghyun asked searching her eyes for the answer.

She gave him a sad smile. Knowing that she couldn't honestly say it out loud just yet, "Good luck in life Seunghyun. I wish you the best in everything."

", this is for real," he cried harder seeing the resolve in her eyes.

"Have a good night," she mumbled as she got out the car. Quickly making her way into the house, she leaned her back onto the front door and closed her eyes. Letting herself slide down onto the ground, she craddled her legs as she began to weep.
