Strong Willed

Minzy frowned as she stared at her unconscious brother. It had been a few days without any movement. The doctor said it was normal and to give it time, but Minzy didn't have much time. She needed her brother Zelo with her now. She needed his smiling face and bubbly personality to give her strength and especially for him to forgive her for letting her pride get the best of her. A knock came at the door and she called for whoever it was to come in. Her two best friends walked in surprised to see Minzy wasn't even close to ready for the prom. "Minzy?! Why aren't you ready yet?"

"C'mon girl the dance is in a couple of hours and the date I have set up for you should be legit,". Fei added.

Minzy shrugged, "I don't think I wanna go. Sorry guys, I'm just not in the mood."

Hyuna pouted as they entered, "Minzy don't be like that! You know we've dreamt of this day for like ever!"

"Hyuna's right, this is something we've been talking about since we were young. Plus what would Zelo say," Fei grinned knowing exactly what would get her.

Minzy hated when they pulled that card on her, turning to see the handsome boy fast asleep she took his hand in hers. Giving it a small squeeze, she grinned down at him. "Don't be mad at me baby boy. But I don't feel like going when you're stuck here."

"Gong Minzy you are going to that ing dance if I have to drag you there," Fei snapped.

"Yeah, at least go for a little bit. At least until after you get your crown and then you can come back," Hyuna suggested.

"Yeah just come for the crowning and then you can come back. Please Minzy I don't want you or your brother regeting the fact that you didn't go," Fei said.

Minzy stared at her unconscious brother and frowned. She knew her brother better than anyone. She knew that her brother would want her to go. He'd probably make a joke of the situation saying that he would still be taking a long nap for him to even notice she was gone.

"Minzy c'mon you know you want to," Hyuna smiled brightly.

Minzy couldn't believe that it was their senior ball that they had imagined since they were little girls. All of them were still good friends and together for this special day just like they had planned. Each of them looking stunning in their expensive dresses as they made their way towards the dance. But Minzy hesitated before they entered. As much as they've talked and imagined this moment it didn't feel right. Deep down she felt like she should be at the hospital by her brother's bed side.

"Are you ready for this," Fei asked Minzy as she linked her arm with hers.

"Let's do this," Hyuna squeaked as she hooked her arm onto Minzy's free one.

It was as if Minzy was being pulled into the dance as she unwillingly walked in to be surrounded by strobe lights and blasting music. The sea of bodies parted as the three of them made their entrance. Never letting her weakness show, she took pride in every step she took. Walking in the middle of the dance floor, she flipped her hair as she swayed from side to side. Swaying her hips to the loud music playing, she tried to shake the sadness. Grinning as her friends laughed and danced, she was grateful at least that they had all agreed to cancel with their dates and be just them. It was a relief for her to not have to entertain some random guy.

"Awe get it girl," Fei squealed with glee as she and Hyuna danced along.

The three girls were laughing and having so much fun. Minzy couldn't remember the last time she had this much fun that didn't involve alcohol. It was different for her to be on that natural high as she began to make fun of Hyuna with some robotic stiff moves, "You really need to learn how to move your body."

"Shut up, guys love the robot," Hyuna smiled as she mimicked Minzy's moves.

Minzy held her stomach as she laughed so hard at Hyuna, "Oh gosh you crack me up." Fanning herself, Minzy signaled to her friends that she needed to go get a drink and take a breather. Taking a cup of punch, Minzy made her way outside and let the cool night breeze wrap around her body. Inhaling the night air, she sighed happily as she stared up at the glowing moon and stars. Today they seemed to glimmer a bit brighter than usual and for some people that wasn't such a big deal. But to Minzy it was a sign, a sign that everything would be okay.

"Someone looks lost in their thoughts," a deep voice cut through the peaceful silence. Giving the scenery before her one last glance, she turned and began to walk away. She didn't want him coming and ruining her night, not after how it's been so far. "Minzy please don't go," he pleaded as he took hold of her hand to stay her.

Cursing her feet that seemed to be glued in place when he asked her to stay, she tried her best to be calm, "What?"

"Can I have this dance," he asked as the dj so happened to play a slow song.

Minzy knew what to say, but her feelings made her keep shut. Standing there quietly, she noticed how he held her hand so gently in his as he shifted in front of her. Taking her hands and guiding them up onto his shoulders, he placed his hands onto her hips and began to lead her to the melody playing. Letting him lead her under the moon lit sky, she did her best not to look up into his eyes. It was the least she could do for being so stupid and not walking away. The two were a bit stiff together, but it was more so Minzy as she tried to divert his gaze. She didn't know what was happening as she felt herself tremble at his touch. It had been such a long time since she had been in his arms, it felt almost foreign. But she soon grew at ease as he pulled her closer to him, allowing her to lay her head onto his chest. Grinning to herself, she gratefully laid her head onto his chest. Through the music and all the hustle and bustle echoing out through the doors, she did her best to block it all out and live in the moment. She couldn't help to think of her favorite part in slow dancing. It wasn't so much being in the arms of someone, but having that close proximity to hear something so beautiful and sometimes over looked like a person's heart beat. Swaying to the soft melody of his heart beating, she felt as if she could float off on a white fluffy cloud. The thought made her knees go slightly weak, cuddling further into him she felt his strong arms wrap more comfortably around her. Hearing his soft heart beat and feeling his strong arms guide her under the night sky was nothing short of magical. Biting the corner of her lip, she wouldn't admit it out loud, but she really needed this. Sadly the moment ended sooner than she wanted as the melody faded into a fast upbeat tempo. Reluctanly pulling back, she finally found the courage to gaze up into his eyes. Seunhyun's eyes seemed to shine brighter than the moon and stars combined. Smiling at how handsome he looked she whispered a soft thank you.

"For what," he softly spoke.

Shaking her head, she dropped her hands. The sounds of laughter and chattering brought her back down to reality. "It's nothing. I should probably go."

"Do you have to," he frowned.

Nodding she sighed, "Yeah the girls are waiting for me."

Mirroring her nod he tucked his hands into his suit pockets after their loss of contact, "I should get going too."

"Seunghyun?! Seunghyun," a voice called. "There you are. I was looking all over for you," the girl smiled up at him as she handed him a drink before turning to look at Minzy.

For a split second the girl was unrecognizable. But only for a split second, "Bom?"

"Minzy," Bom pressed her lips together as if holding back a couple of words.

"You actually look cute for once," she nodded impressed at how the white dress Bom wore fit her perfectly along with her makeup too.

"Uh...thanks," Bom said unsure if that was a compliment or not before turning her attention back to Seunghyun. Minzy watched as Bom purposly linked her arm with Seunghyun's before tip toeing up to peck his cheek, "Shall we go back inside?"

"Sure," he grinned down at Bom.

Meanwhile Minzy stood watching the pair's interaction. She couldn't understand what was happening, shaking the thought she knew, she just couldn't believe it. She didn't want to believe that Seunghyun could look at another girl like he was currently looking at Bom. The feelings of stupidity and sadness had her chest tightening. Hating herself for feeling sadness, she couldn't keep this up any longer. Watching as Seunghyun glance over her as if searching for some kind of approval, she raised her hand and shook her head. She didn't want to hear any apologies or excuses from him. Looking away, she folded her arms over her chest to block him out and  he took the hint and walked away with Bom on his arm. Turning back in the direction the two were retreating to, she stood and quietly watched. Watching as Bom looked over her shoulder with a smirk apparent on her face before they disappeared into the crowd. Clenching her fists, she did her best to not let that dumb get to her. She was having a good night for the most part and she wasn't going to let anyone mess it up. Pulling herself together, she made her way back into the dance to look for her friends. But she was surprised when she saw a group of guys, flocking around Fei and Hyuna. As she was approaching the group, she was caught off guard with Jiyong slinging his arm around Fei's shoulders and pulling her close to his body. Freezing in place, Minzy saw how her friend's face turned a shade of red as he began to whisper in Fei's ear. Pivoting on one foot, she turned to walk away. She didn't want to intrude on whatever the hell was going since they seemed so cozy with one another.

"Minzy! Minzy over here," Hyuna called causing her to stop and turn back around.

She paused as she took a deep breath and turned, "Oh hey, I was just going to go grab a drink."

"Damn girl did someone put some alcohol in the punch," Hyuna teased. "Hey hope you don't mind that the guys came. They couldn't take no for an answer after they all just spent money on their tuxedos."

Minzy's eyes connected with Jiyong's as she shrugged, "No it's fine."

"Oh yeah," Hyuna made a face as she noticed Minzy gazing over at Jiyong and Fei.

"Minzy," Jiyong mumbled in shock as he dropped his arm off of Fei and scooting over to create space between them as if he was caught cheating. "I...well we wanted to surprise you guys..." Meanwhile Fei stood in awe at his sudden movements.

"It's cool," Minzy said cooly. "You guys have fun. But I really do need a drink. It's too hot in this damn place." Turning before anyone else could say a thing, she made her way to grab another cup of punch before walking outside again. "," she cursed as she stomped her foot. "How did that happen," she asked herself. Jiyong and her never really ended things between each other and of course Fei being one of her best friend's she knew everything about him and her relationship. "What the Fei," Minzy hissed feeling upset at her best friend hooking up with Jiyong of all people.

"Minzy gosh I'm so sorry! I told her this was a bad idea," Hyuna came rushing our babbling as fast as would allow her. "I told her to leave him alone at least until you figure things out but she wouldn't listen to me."

"It's fine," Minzy waved it off.

"No it's not," Hyuna countered.

"But what do you want me to do about it? Do you think I can really go in there seeing them together after I know that Seunghyun and Bom are here together?"

"," Hyuna hissed. "I told Seunghyun that was a bad idea and he didn't listen to me either," Hyuna made an unsure face as to what to do.

Minzy snapped at her out of frustration, "What else are you telling people to do Hyuna?!"

"Uh...I..."

"Hyuna," Minzy eyed her knowing there had to be more with the look of distress apparent on her face.

"At least Seunghyun...asked you to dance. It was super cute," Hyuna said quickly with a wink as if to play off her confession smoothly.

"You mean to tell me that you forced him to do a pity dance with me," Minzy coughed in disbelief.

"No it wasn't like that," Hyuna waved her hands in defense.

But Minzy wasn't hearing it anymore. She stormed into the dance unaware that they were announcing who the king and queen were. "Seunghyun," Minzy growled as she marched up to him but she came to a halt as the lights all flashed at Seunghyun and he was called up to the stage to be crowned king. It was a no brainer to see him standing up there. The crown being placed on his head seemed to fit right as he stood with a stupid crooked smile on his face. But who would be his queen? Minzy didn't realize it, but she was standing right next to Bom. It was when the announcer called Bom's name and the spot light flashing onto the space next to her that she realized what was happening. Turning to glance to her side, she along with Bom held a look of awe. This who had been making her life a living hell had won out of everyone in the school it was Bom. As if seeing Bom win queen wasn't enough, Bom ran into Seunghyun's arms and crashed her lips against his as they led everyone into the themed slow dance song.

" this," Minzy growled as she threw her drink and stormed out.

Minzy sighed as she drank in the hospital parking lot. She wasn't drunk and she wasn't going to allow herself go into the hospital drunk, she wouldn't want her brother to wake up to her like that. But she was just so tempted to drink away her problems at the moment. Everything felt so wrong and twisted, she didn't know what to do. She felt so lost. She couldn't get completely wasted, she couldn't call her best friends' to vent to, she didn't even have a boyfriend to wrap his strong arms around her, and she most definitely couldn't seek advice from her parents who were probably aruging right now. Thinking through her list of options to console herself, the only option she really wanted was currently unavailable. Gazing at the hospital that had become like a second home, she couldn't help but swear at the building. "Stupid hospital," she hissed. The only thing that could make her feel better was being held hostage in that building she thought as she took another swig of her alcohol. Feeling her tears well up in her eyes, she forced the bottle up to her lips once again. Drinking away her sorrows, she hoped the alcohol could fill the void. A void that she knew only her brother could. Burping after finishing the bottle, she wiped at her eyes and pulled out a full bottle. Popping off the lid, she shivered as a cool breeze brushed against her bare legs. The thought of her current state was something else. Drinking in her prom dress alone in the hospital parking lot, an odd turn of events and far from how she had imagined her Senior Ball to be. Gripping the bottle tight, she shook the thought and sighed. "Just one more drink and I'll be good to go," she tried to convince herself before downing yet another bottle of alcohol.

A little buzzed, Minzy quietly crepted into her brother's room to find him just like she had left him. Slipping off her heels, she squeezed herself next to him on the bed. Cuddling up against him, she couldn't help but frown as she laid her head upon his chest. Listening to his heart beat, she figured that at least she could rely on the thumping of his heart. Her brother was still alive and so was she, that was a blessing in itself she tried to look at the positive with what had all happened tonight. She wasn't raised in a real religious household, but she had a feeling that there had to be more to her sufferings. It was what she had convinced herself growing up and what she was convincing herself at the moment. Whispering a prayer out to the universe for comfort, she didn't know what else to do. "Zelo," she whispered as she continued to listen to his heart beat as a response to continue. "Zelo will you please come back to me? I need you," her voice broke with emotion. Clutching onto his gown, she closed her eyes and buried her face into his chest. "My world is falling apart and I don't know what to do. I need your help." She began to cry as her selfish needs consumed her. "Wake up Zelo," she cried harder. "Your big sis needs you right now," she sobbed as she embraced him tightly.
