2NE1

Strong Willed

It was like a wave of emotions that hit her as she heard him call her name. Grabbing onto the door frame to help steady herself, she stood in awe as her beloved brother cracked a small grin at her. The next thing she knew, she was taking him into her arms. Feeling his weak arms struggle to wrap around her, she couldn’t help but cry. “Zelo…” was all she could say as she the water falls fell from her eyes.

Minzy awoke to the sunlight invading her beauty sleep. As she slowly opened her eyes she was met with the brown warm orbs she had missed seeing. “Hey sleepy head.”

Snuggling up against her brother, she couldn’t help but let out a sigh of content, “Morning sleeping beauty.” Zelo chuckled and she couldn’t help but smile, “I’ve missed that great laugh of yours.”

“Hmm, I guess I’ve missed out on a lot,” he hummed.

She nodded as she thought back to everything that had happened while he was unconscious, “Not too much.”

He frowned knowing his over protective sister, “Oh really? I wanna hear exactly what I missed then.”

Minzy didn’t know where to start, she hadn’t really had the chance to gather her thoughts about everything that had happened. “Umm…”

“I wanna hear about all of it,” he added as he awaited her report.

“Well…when you fell unconscious my world turned upside down,” she started.

Being the young woman that she was, she left out most of the details. She didn’t want to overwhelm her brother, was her excuse, as she also altered a few of her life events. She figured, he had just woken up and the last thing she wanted him to do was worry.

“Sounds like things were pretty decent while I was sleeping,” he stated from all that she had revealed. “Is that everything that happened? Where is mom?”

Minzy looked away as she tried to gather her thoughts. She didn't know how to tell him. "Well..." she started as she looked over to her concerned brother. "I don't know any nice way of saying it, but she left. She won't be in our lives anymore."

"What? What does that mean," he frowned.

Pressing her lips tightly together she thought of how to better phrase it. "Zelo to tell you the truth it was for the best. She wasn't happy and she wasn't safe." She went on to tell him of the details of her mother trying to kill their father a few times to finally walking out. "I'm sorry that you have to hear this from me, but it really was for the best."

Zelo still held the frown as he gazed down soaking in all the information. Sighing deeply he looked back at his sister with a sad smile, "I'm sorry you've been suffering all on your own."

His words made her heart break. Wrapping her arms around him, she pulled him in for a tight embrace, "I was able to endure it because of you. You helped me through it all." Burying her face into his shoulder, she couldn't help but feel some much gratitude to have her brother awake. “Now enough of the past, I’m starving. How about I go take a quick shower and go shopping for some delicious food.”

“I thought you’d never ask. Except…”

“I know the nurse said I should make your meals more soft and liquid at first to help ease you into solid foods and what nots,” she nodded as she remembered what the nurse was telling her.

“Great, now go on,” he teasingly pushed at her to get out of bed.

Groaning she rolled out of bed and stumbled to her room. Getting ready, she heard Zelo talking on the phone, but she couldn’t make out what he was saying or who he was talking to. Making her way to his room, he waved to her as if it was nothing. Shrugging, she figured he was probably calling some friends from school. Waving goodbye she set her sights to the grocery store. She didn’t realize how long it had been since she had gone out shopping and remembered items she needed to grab all throughout the store. The next thing she knew her cart was full and close to over flowing, “Whoa I feel like I went shopping for the year!” As she was packing the various bags of groceries into her car, her phone started to ring and it was none other than Mr. Park. “Hello,” she answered as she finished the last couple of bags.

“Hi Minzy how are you?”

“Great thank you,” she smiled as she hopped into her car.

“When were you planning on starting again? I remember you saying tomorrow in our emails right?”

She mentally slapped her forehead for forgetting, “I did.”

“Great, you actually only train tomorrow this week instead of the entire week because your trainer will be heading out of town with me for an important business trip.”

“Okay,” she responded figuring that one day away from Zelo would be alright. “Thanks for calling. I look forward to starting tomorrow.”

“We’re excited to have you. See you tomorrow,” Mr. Park said before hanging up.

Pulling up to her house, Minzy wasn’t aware of her surroundings as she grabbed a couple of bags before heading towards the house. Coming out to grab a couple more, she was surprised to see Jiyong with some of her bags in hand. “Where would you like me to put these?”

“I can take them,” she tried to reach for them, but he pulled back and shook his head.

“No it’s fine, where would you like me to put these,” he repeated.

Rolling her eyes, she stepped aside and pointed into her house, “The kitchen counter.”

“Alright,” he grinned as he walked in.

Sighing, she went to grab a couple more bags and Jiyong quickly rushed by her side to take the last few and close the trunk, “Thanks.”

“Don’t worry about it,” he set the items down as he started to open the bags.

But she quickly took hold of his hand to stop him, “That’s okay…”

Pausing Jiyong gazed down at her hand over his before shifting his gaze towards hers, “But I want to…”

Minzy inwardly sighed as she accidently put herself in an awkward position. She knew that his words meant more than just wanting to help put away groceries. “Minzy,” Zelo called saving her from the awkwardness.

“Sorry I’ll be right back,” she pulled away and headed towards Zelo’s room. “Hey what’s up?”

“Who are you talking to,” he asked.

“It’s…”

“Hi there, the name is Jiyong,” Jiyong spoke up, startling Minzy.

“Nice to meet you Jiyong, are you a friend or something,” Zelo asked.

“Yeah you can say that,” he grinned as he quickly slung his arm over Minzy’s shoulders and pulled her close to him. “We plan on hanging out more often this Summer, so you’ll be seeing more of me.”

Zelo grinned and nodded, “That’s good to hear, I like seeing my sister hang out with her friends rather than worrying about me.”

“I hang out with my friends. I mean that’s all I did while you were playing sleeping beauty,” Minzy lied in her defense as she moved in towards her brother to escape Jiyong’s grasp. “I’m gonna put away the groceries and then make you something to eat.”

“Can Jiyong eat with us,” Zelo asked.

“Umm…I’m sure Jiyong is pretty busy and I don’t want to keep him…”

“I’d love to join you guys. I’ll help Minzy cook,” Jiyong jumped in.

Biting her lower lip, Minzy plastered a fake smile on her face, “Great, I guess it’s settled.”

Quickly getting up, Minzy exited the room with Jiyong following right behind. As they two of them were entering the kitchen, Minzy pivoted on one foot to give him a piece of her mind. But the sudden movement only caused them to stumble into one another and she nearly lost her balance to be caught in his arms. Staring up at him, she felt unsettled with his piercing dark eyes gazing down upon her. Thankfully Jiyong swiftly lifted her back onto her feet, “Are you okay?”

Reaching to subconsciously fix her hair, she nodded and turned away in embarrassment. “Yeah I’m fine,” she brushed it off as she walked towards the kitchen table.

“Here let me help you with those, where would you like me to put these,” he asked as he lifted the various boxes.

“In the top cupboard,” she pointed behind him. “Do you mind if I get started on cooking as you put away the stuff so we can get Zelo some food?”

“Sure,” he grinned as they both went to work. It seemed as though the awkward feelings disappeared as Jiyong volunteered himself to help cook. Although he didn’t know how, he was willing to learn. The pair laughed throughout the cooking process, more so Minzy laughing at Jiyong and his various attempts of burning the house down, but it was the thought that counted. In the end, she had him watch her cook the rest of the meal as they randomly rambled about random things. “Wow I seriously need to take some cooking classes,” Jiyong chuckled as he watched Minzy put together Zelo’s meal.

“I would also say you need to take classes on how not to burn down the house,” Minzy added causing the two to burst into more laughter.

“One day I’ll make a delicious meal for you without burning the house down. You watch, I’ll probably be famous for it,” he teased.

She shrugged as she picked up a tray for Zelo, “Alright I’m counting on it.”

The pair made their way back to Zelo’s room to find him on the phone, “Thank you you guys, do you mind if I eat alone? I’m on the phone and all…”

“Wow you’re so popular. I wonder who you’re talking to,” she teased as she eyed her younger brother. But he shook his head and waved them off as he continued to pay attention to whoever he was talking to on the phone. “Sorry for interrupting,” she sarcastically said as she turned to leave. “I guess it’s just us for dinner. I hope you don’t mind?”

He shook his head and smiled, “I don’t mind at all.”

Serving themselves, the pair sat at the kitchen table as the awkward feelings came rushing right back at him. They quietly sat, acting as though they were both too into their food to really have a conversation. That was until Jiyong broke the silence, “So…”

“Hmm,” she hummed as she continued to eat.

“I…really want to apologize about yesterday. I’m sorry that you keep getting dragged in the middle of the drama between me and Fei.” Minzy nodded her head as she sat quietly letting him explain himself, “I just…you caught me off guard and Fei has just been pressuring me…”

She sighed as she finally glanced over to him, “Jiyong let me just give you some advice. Don’t be a little .”

“Uh…wha…” he asked, unsure of what he heard.

“As an outsider’s perspective, I’m telling you that you ed up and you gotta own up to it. You and I both know that you don’t like her so stop stringing her along and cut her loose. It’s the only way to get the drama over with sooner than later. Unless…”

“Unless what?”

“You do like the and just can’t commit. If it’s the second one then you’re ed up,” she teased.

He laughed at her crude language, “So it’s like that?”

She shook her head as she eyed him, “Yeah, it is like that. Don’t play dumb, you little .” Jiyong and Minzy laughed before the doorbell rang followed by a knock. “Hold on a sec…” She got up and quickly went to the door and without thinking answered it.

“Hey,” Seunghyun half grinned as he came into view.

Minzy was confused to see Seunghyun standing in her doorway, but she wasn't going to show it, "Can I help you?"

"Hi Minzy, I came to see Zelo," he smiled.

"Oh," she relucently moved to let him pass. "Come in I guess?"

"Thanks I had to come see him since he called me and told me he woke up," he explained.

That's when it clicked, when Minzy saw her brother on the phone earlier, "Oh okay that's nice." Seunghyun froze in his steps and Minzy looked to see Jiyong who then rose to his feet. The shared glances between the two made her feel a bit uneasy and she wasn't liking the feeling. "You know where his room is right?"

"Yeah sure," Seunghyun said as he gave one hard look at Jiyong before walking towards Zelo's room.

Minzy made her way back to Jiyong and smiled at him, "Sorry."

"How do you know that guy again," he quickly said as he stared down the hall Seunghyun went down.

She sighed, "We grew up together."

"Is that all," Jiyong asked.

She didn't like this interogation feel of his questioning and she wondered what his deal was. "Why?"

He shrugged as if trying not to sound too upset, "I don't like him around you."

Minzy couldn't help but laugh, "I don't either. He always gives me a headache. Now can we change the subject?"

Jiyong nodded in understanding and asked her what she wanted to do for the Summer. The two laughed and talked some more, until Minzy couldn't laugh anymore. Watching him leave, she smiled and waved. But that mood soon changed as she felt the presence of someone standing behind her.

"I don't like that guy," Seunghyun spoke up from behind her.

She shrugged indifferent to his opinion, "That's nice. Are you leaving now?"

"Kicking me out already? How rude," he teased as she turned to look at him.

She nodded, "Of course, Zelo is the only reason I let you into this house."

"I see how you are. Rude as hell as always," he rolled his eyes at her.

She couldn't help but laugh, "Some things never change."

"I like that though," he smiled at her sweetly.

But she held up her hand to stop him, "Don't even try to flirt with me."

He chuckled as he bit the corner of his lip, "Damn girl why you always gotta crush a man's dreams?"

"Whatever Seunghyun. Thanks for stopping by to visit my brother," she said as she hinted towards the door.

Taking the hint he started making his way out of the house, "I'll be over tomorrow."

She smiled feeling grateful her brother would have some company, "Good you'll have him all to yourself I work tomorrow."

"You already have a job? We just graduated a couple days ago," he said impressed.

She sighed and grinned, "Some of us grow up faster than others."

He laughed at her witty comeback, "Good night Minzy."

"Night," she waved before closing the door.

Minzy awoke bright and early to get dressed for her first day. As she was doing some touch ups to her makeup she heard a knock at her door. Sighing she called for the person to enter and she acted as though she wasn't fazed by his sudden appearance, "I heard today was going to be your first day on the job."

"Yeah," she simply said as she stood to her feet and adjusted her outfit.

Her father cleared his throat as he thought about what to say, "Don't...embarass me. I've worked hard for the reputation I have there."

As much as she wanted to consider his words she just couldn't. He also had a reputation in their home and it wasn't a good one, "Alright..."

He sighed knowing his daughter would give him a hard time about, "Look, just behave."

"Gladly father," Minzy hissed through clenched teeth. She wasn't going to argue with him at the moment. If she got into that she would be late to work and that would look bad on her part. Watching as he hesitantly nodded before leaving she felt a tightening in her chest and clenched her fists before driving one into her desk. Taking a deep breath she made her way to her brother's room and planted a soft kiss on his forehead to wake him, "Good morning sleepy head. I'm going to work for a couple hours and I'll be back afterward okay?"

Zelo grinned and nodded, "Alright that's good because I wanted to hang out with Seunghyun today."

As nice as it was to hear her brother's voice again, she didn't like the words coming out of his mouth, "Okay..."

"Minzy enjoy your first day of work," Zelo smiled at her as he gave her hand a comforting squeeze to not worry. Nodding, she shook off her thoughts and kissed his forehead one last time before taking her leave.

Minzy felt her heart pounding with excitement as she pulled up to the work site. She stepped out and felt a bit over dressed in her skirt and heels with everyone walking around in jeans and boots. But then again that was the typical construction get up she had seen her father wear from time to time. Making her way to the portable trailer, she walked in to see a young man looking over some papers at what she assumed to be his desk. "Umm hello I'm here for my orientation," Minzy called to his attention.

She was impressed to see how stunningly handsome and rugged he looked. He seemed only a few years older than her, but when he smiled up at her he looked boyish questioning how old he really was, "You must be Mr. Gong's daughter right?"

She wanted to cough a laugh at his reference to her, but settled for a brief grin instead, "My name is Minzy."

"Nice to meet you Minzy the name is Teddy," he stood towering over her as he held out his hand which she gladed accepted and could feel his strength in the firm gripped handshake. "So today I'm just gonna show you around the place and give you an overview of your duties alright," he gave her a quick up and down look before giving her another boyish smile. "And the next time you work you can dress business casual. The guys would tease the hell out of me if I had you keep coming in here like that."

"Oh thanks," Minzy grinned feeling slightly uncomfortable for being over dressed.

"Alright let's get the show on the road," he nearly sang as he led her out the trailer. Minzy liked how Teddy was so outgoing and happy go lucky as he showed her around the construction site. She would be in charge of filing, keeping inventory, along with any other miscellanious tasks they had for her. She found herself smiling at his silly construction jokes from time to time. But it was the many high and mighty comments Teddy spouted off to her about her father she didn't like. He spoke so highly of her father, she had almost wished she could've felt the same. "So that's just about everything," he gave her another boyish smile as they ended up back at the trailer. "Do you have any questions?"

"No I don't think so," Minzy found herself matching his contagious smile.

"Oh God, what are you doing here," Bom sighed in annoyance as she let herself into the trailer.

Minzy's smile turned into that of being forced as she gazed over to Bom, "I was just leaving."

"Good, you're kinda killing my mood," Bom coughed a laugh.

"Bom stop being rude. What would your father say if he saw how you were talking to Mr. Gong's daughter like that," Teddy stepped in.

"No it's fine, really. I better get going. I'll see you next week," Minzy smiled gratefully at Teddy before turning to leave the two.

Minzy cursed under her breath as she drove off. She couldn't catch a break with Bom, that girl was seriously everywhere. Pushing those annoying thoughts aside, she thought of how cool Teddy was and how neat it was going to be to work this Summer with him.

Minzy opened her door to find Hyuna sitting in her living room. "There you are," Hyuna jumped to her feet and rushed over to give Minzy a hug. Startled by her being there, Minzy hugged her back before Hyuna dragged her down the hallway and towards her room. "C'mon and let's get you dressed."

"Dressed," Minzy breathed as she watched Hyuna raise a beautiful off white gown off of her bed and hold it up to her.

" yes," Hyuna squealed in approval before pushing it against her. "Go put this on."

Minzy couldn't get a word in as she felt her friend start to undress her. Quickly slipping out of her skirt, she didn't think twice before she found herself being zipped up. Gazing into her mirror, she grinned to herself as she couldn't help to think that she looked like a princess.

"Since you've already done your hair and makeup we can head out to the party," Hyuna gleefully sang as she took hold of Minzy's hand and started dashing out of the room.

"The party..." Minzy gasped as she was being rushed out of her room and into the back yard.

"Surprise," everyone shouted in their formal attire as they tossed confetti and balloons galore.

"What's going on," she said in shock as she gazed around to see her back yard lit with white christmass lights, a dj, tables with food and drinks, it was the whole nine yards.

"It's prom night," Seunghyun said as he stepped forward with a corsage in hand.

"Prom night," she repeated to herself out loud as she watched Seunghyun take her wrist and place the beautiful white corsage onto her wrist.

"May I have this dance," Seunghyun grinned as he held his hand out to her.

Minzy was too confused to really know what to say, when she felt Hyuna give her a light shove into his direction. He quickly took her hand and led her out to the wooden deck floor and spun her into his arms. Grinning down at her, he glanced over to the dj who in turn played a slow song for them to dance to. "Seunghyun what is going on," Minzy blurted out as she gazed all around to the other couples who joined them on the dance floor then back to him.

He shrugged as he dipped her and continued to lead her on the dance floor, "We're dancing."

She sighed feeling a headache coming on, "Seunghyun..." But her words were silenced as he swiftly scooped her up and spun her in the air. Giggling at his sudden moves, she let him carry her across the dance floor until the song faded out.

"Alright everyone can I get your attention," Zelo spoke up causing Minzy along with the crowd to look at him. "I wanna thank everyone of you for making this night possible for me and my sister. As you all know I've been unconscious for a while and when I woke up it was my sister who was there for me. So to make up for lost time I want to dedicate this night to her. Please congratulate the prom king and queen Seunghyun and Minzy!" The crowd cheered loudly as Hyuna rushed over adorning both Seunghyun and Minzy with sashes and crowns before leaving them again. "Now will our prom king and queen lead us out in this next song." Zelo smiled at his sister before sending her an encouraging wink.

"Let's not keep them waiting," Seunghyun whispered as he held her against him and led them into another slow song.

Minzy was so touched by her little brother, that she found herself living in the moment. Leaning her head against Seunghyun's chest, she smiled as she softly inhaled Seunghyun's scent. "Thanks helping my brother put this together," she finally spoke up as she gazed up at him.

He smiled down at her and shrugged, "This was how it should've been."

"Seunghyun a lot of things should've been different, but happens," Minzy sighed.

"Then let's rewrite history tonight," his eyes flickered with mischief before he descended down to her, pressing his lips to hers.

His lips felt so warm and right against hers. Deeply touched by the surprise, she didn't think on it as she found herself kissing him back. The roaring of the crowd cheering them on caused her to pull away and laugh. Tonight she was going to dance the night away and push away all her common sense, it was prom night after all.
