Being pregnant is not that bad after all

 

“I hate you, Choi Sooyoung!,” Jessica mumbles the moment her eyes landed on her tummy. Her tummy was bloated a little due to her pregnancy which has already reached a month. She will have an interview session with the infamous magazine for her upcoming web drama which she just had finished filming last week. She was planning to wear her favorite body hugging shirt, but since it will show her bloated tummy to which she found it ugly to be seen, so, she decided just to wear a loose shirt and a pair of jeans.

 

“Hey, baby! Ready to go?,” Sooyoung said while slowly wrapping his arms around her waist, back hugging her.

 

“Yeah, let’s go,” she replied nonchalant. Sooyoung could sense that she wasn’t in a good mood in the past few days and including today, so, he was planning to find it out from her. But, after he made a second thought, he decided to brush it off.

 

“Maybe because of her pregnancy,” he thought.

 

“Are you okay? You seem not in a good mood this morning,” he carefully asked.

 

“Nah, I’m okay. Let’s go. We will going to be late for the interview,” she replied with faint smile. Not planning to ask further as he was afraid it will ruin her mood, he then tried his best to put the brightest smile and grabbed her handbag that was on the dressing table.

 

“Arasso, kaja!,” he said. He then grabbed Jessica’s hand and entwined their hands together while walking out of their room.

“Are you sure you don’t want me to fetch you after the interview?,” Sooyoung asked right after he stopped the car in front of the studio building where Jessica will be having the interview. He was surprised with her sudden request on not to fetch her after the interview session. She usually a bit clingy with Sooyoung, wanting to be with him wherever he go. But, this time, it’s different, and the changes on her behavior surprised him a lot.

 

“Yeah, I have made a promise to Minyoung unnie to have a lunch together with her today. I’m sorry I didn’t tell you earlier,” she replied as she smiled apologetically.

 

“Nah, it’s okay. You need to get some fresh air sometimes, right? Just go and spend your day with her. You can use my card and shopping all you want, okay?,” he smiled as he tried to be more understanding on her situation.

 

“It’s okay, baby. I will just have my lunch with her, and I will go back to my parents house. It’s been awhile since the last time I visited them,” she replied. Her other plans really made Sooyoung surprised. But again, he tried to be more understanding on her. Maybe she needs some space and time for her family at this moment. He let out a soft sigh.

 

“Arasso. Do you want me to send you there?,” he asked. Jessica just shook her head and smiled faintly.

 

“I will ask Minyoung unnie to send me there,” she replied.

 

“Alright. Be careful, okay?,” he said.

 

“Okay, she replied while unbuckle her seatbelt. She then grabbed her handbag and quickly went out of the car without giving a goodbye kiss like she usually did. Again, Sooyoung tried to be an understanding fiance. Very understanding one. He just watching Jessica walking towards the building until she disappeared from his sight. He let out a sigh once again, and slowly drove his car, heading to his office with a heavy heart.

“What’s with the long face, oppa?,” the girl who was sitting in front of her asked. Sooyoung decided to have his lunch with the resident makeup artist on that afternoon at their company’s cafeteria. Well, he practically forced her to accompany him since he doesn’t want to eat alone.

 

“Do pregnant woman always having mood swings?,” he asked while sipping his orange juice.

 

“Mwoh? Why are you asking this kind of question suddenly? Is it something got to do with Jessica unnie?,” the makeup artist replied.

 

“Who else, Jisook ah? Last night she was okay to me. But, this morning, her mood suddenly changed, she was acting cold towards me. She even didn’t want me to fetch her from the studio after the interview,” he finally spilled out his problem towards her. Jisook stopped cutting her steak, and smiled after hearing the words coming from the gloomy and miserable looking guy.

 

“Well, I’m still not married yet, oppa, so, I’m not so sure. But, judging from what you have told me earlier, and through my unnie’s pregnancy experience, I think Jessica unnie is having one of the pregnancy symptoms,” she replied.

 

“You think so?,” Sooyoung asked. Jisook nodded.

 

“Yeah, my unnie often having mood swings during her first and third trimester of pregnancy. But it will eventually subside, depending on the person. So, don’t worry, oppa. Just be more understanding and supportive on Jessica unnie, okay?,” Jisook said. Sooyoung nodded understandingly. He then squinted his eyes towards Jisook.

 

“Are you sure you’re telling me about your unnie’s pregnancy experience? Not yours?,” Sooyoung asked teasingly, causing the latter widened her eyes in shocked.

 

“Yah! I’m not married yet, though! I don’t even have a boyfriend! How come I can get pregnant without those factors? Aishh..,” she cried, causing Sooyoung laughed hysterically.

 

“Mianhae, Jisook ah. I’m just teasing you, though. Anyway, thanks for your explanation. Somehow it makes my heart feel better and lighter,” Sooyoung said as he smiled genuinely.

 

“I will forgive you, oppa. After you pay for my lunch here,” Jisook replied nonchalant.

 

“Huh, I can pay for your lunch for the rest of the month if you want too,” he scoffed.

 

“Chincha? Alright, it’s a deal then,” Jisook said as she grinned. Sooyoung just shook his head and laughed.

“Unnie!,” Jessica exclaimed excitedly the moment she saw the person whom she really wanted to meet today. She called her earlier this morning to set up the lunch meeting before went for the interview. She just wanted to avoid from going out for lunch with Sooyoung. She just wanted to solve her problem without involving her fiance.

 

“Sica, ya! Aigoo, it’s been a long time since the last time we met,” the person, Minyoung walking towards her and leaned forward to hug her.

 

“I miss you, unnie!,” she said while hugging the petite woman tightly.

 

“Ya, I miss you too, little girl!,” she replied as she patted on Jessica's back before she released the hug. She then scanned Jessica from head to toe and smiled. “Aigoo, you have become more and more beautiful ever since I met you. You looked so radiant, little girl!,” she said as she compliments her.

 

“Aishh.. I’m not a little girl anymore, unnie. I’m going to be a wife and soon-to-be a mother,” she said with a pouting face. Minyoung just giggled as she liked to since their school time. Both of them went to the same high school.

 

Minyoung was Jessica’s senior and they have become good friends for so many years up until now. Minyoung has already married to her college sweetheart, and their marriage have been blessed with two children, a son and a daughter.

 

“Alright! Let’s get inside first. I’m hungry!,” Minyoung said as she grabbed Jessica’s wrist and practically dragged her to enter inside the restaurant. Their favorite restaurant where they usually hang out together since their school time.

 

After they have made their order, Minyoung quickly grabbed Jessica’s hand and caressed it gently.

 

“Feeling better?,” she asked. Jessica smiled faintly while nodded.

 

“I feel so bad for treating him like that. I.. I don’t know, unnie. I think I’m still not ready to be a mother,” she replied hesitantly.

 

“Aigoo.. Sica ya. You just don’t know anything until your child will born, and you hold your own child in your arms. You will experience a wonderful feeling because your child is the prove of your love and commitment towards your husband-to-be,” Minyoung said as she smiled.

 

“I.. I hate the fact that it caused my whole body to change. I’m not as beautiful as before, unnie. What if Sooyoung found out that I look ugly while I’m heavily pregnant?,” she voiced out her insecurity. Minyoung just chuckled after hearing her words. Jessica sometimes could having this silly thought, and it never change since ever.

 

“Sica ya, calm down, will you? I think Sooyoung is mature enough to know the changes on your body during your pregnancy process, am I right? If he thinks like how you thought, I don’t think he is willingly to propose you, and to get married with you. He would rather enjoying his life, going out with different girls he wanted, don’t you think so?,” Minyoung put her two cents in. Jessica was silent as she was lost in her own thought. Minyoung smiled and was about to continue her words when suddenly the waiter came and served them with food and drinks they ordered earlier.

 

“Sica ya, every married woman will be going through this process whether you like it or not. Think of how joy it could be when you have your own child, your fruit of love with your husband, how cute he or she is, whom she or he resembles or takes after? About the changes on your body, you can always get back your ideal shape after giving birth. There are lots of fitness club or beauty centre which can help you to get back your ideal body shape. I’m sure Sooyoung is more than willing to help you through the process, though. So, don’t worry much, okay?,” Minyoung said.

 

“Okay, unnie. I will try my best. Thanks for always being a good advisor for me,” Jessica thanked her with a smile.

 

“Good to hear that, little girl. Alright, let’s dig in!,” Minyoung said while her hands quickly grabbing the fork and spoon, starting to dig in her food.

 

“Unieee.. I’m not a little girl anymoreee..,” Jessica whined, earning a laughter from the latter.

“Jessica, what are you doing here?,” Mrs. Jung was surprised to see her eldest daughter was standing at the doorstep of the Jung’s residence.

 

“Can’t I go back to my own home, mom? Do I need a permission to be here?,” Jessica sarcastically said as she felt annoyed.

 

“Aigoo, Jessica Jung Sooyeon. I’m just asking, though! Aishh.., this brat! Come, let’s get inside,” Mrs. Jung replied as she gestured her to get inside the house. Jessica just followed suit.

 

“Where’s Sooyoung? Are you coming here alone?,” Mrs. Jung bombarded her with another series of questions once they sat on the couch in the living room.

 

“I.. I just told him that I missed home and wanted to visit you guys. He agreed and he just let me go,” she answered, but her eyes looked uncertainty. Mrs. Jung who knows her daughter well could sense that there must be something going on between Jessica and her soon-to-be son-in-law.

 

“Are you sure you just miss us, or you just want to escape from whatever problems or misunderstandings you may had with Sooyoung?,” Mrs. Jung tried to guess. Jessica knows her mother well too. She will interrogate her until she got her answer and satisfied. She let out a sigh.

 

“It’s just a silly misunderstanding, mom. Nothing’s big, though” Jessica replied.

 

“How silly is that? Care to explain?,” Mrs. Jung asked in serious tone. She knew that tone. There’s no other way for her to get escape from her mother. She have to tell her the whole truth.

 

“I.., “ she paused as her words trails off. “I kind of blaming her for getting me pregnant,” she said in hesitant.

 

“Mworago?,” Mrs. Jung exclaimed in surprise. She doesn't know whether to laugh or to feel pity for her daughter.

 

“I know you hear me clearly, mom. I hate the changes happen to my body after getting pregnant. I’m.. I’m afraid of all the pregnancy effects and the pain during labor and delivery that I will experienced. I.. I don’t know what’s going on with me..,” she said in frustration. Mrs. Jung just smiled upon hearing her daughter’s explanation.

 

“Sooyeon ah, being able to get pregnant is a gift from God. Think of other unfortunate couples who were already getting married for a long time, but still doesn’t blessed with a child. You are the lucky one, you know. Your child is a blessings from God, and he or she is your little angel,” Mrs. Jung said. “You know for how many years me and your father have to wait before we’ve got you? Ten years, Sooyeon ah. You just don’t know how happy were we when you was born. The moment I hold you in my arms, I forgot all the pain that I have been through during pregnancy and labor, because my happiness has overpower my pain, and I was so lucky because your father was always by my side, supporting me through thick and thin. Same goes with your grandparents,” she continued.

 

“You.. you never told me before about this, mom,” Jessica said in surprise.

 

“I did, though, when you was small. But, I knew you have already forgotten about it. So, I think this is the right time for me to remind you about it. Being pregnant is not that bad after all, sweetie. Trust me, you will feel grateful for being able to experience it. Just think positively, okay? I’m sure Sooyoung will be helping you in getting through the process. It’s just that you shouldn’t keep it yourself. You need to be more open to him, let him know, so that he could understand you better, arasso?,” Mrs. Jung replied. Jessica nodded. She felt like wanted to cry, she quickly leaned forward to hug her mother.

 

“Thank you, mom. I feel better after sharing this with you. Thank you for always being my supporter. I really need it,” she said, and a single tear rolled down her cheek without she realized.

 

“Aigoo.. You’re my daughter, Sooyeon ah. Of course I will support you for the good things, though. Besides, I can’t wait to have a grandchild. I hope I will be able to see and hold the Jung heirs before I closed my eyes,” she said.

 

“Mom! Don’t say like that! You make me feel sad, though,” she cried. Mrs. Jung chuckled as she patted on her daughter’s back.

 

“Mianhae. I just say it, though. Of course I want to live longer, to see you and Soojung having your own family, living happily with them. That’s all I want,” Mrs. Jung said.

 

“You will, mom. You will. I love you!,” she replied as she tighten the hug.

 

“So, are you going to stay here tonight, or Sooyoung will pick you up later?,” Mrs. Jung asked. Jessica stay silent for awhile before she started to speak.

 

“I.. I was actually trying to avoid from being with him at the moment, mom. Don’t get me wrong, I’m not doing it on purpose. I just don’t know what was happening with me for the past few days. Everything Sooyoung did really annoys me. I knew he must felt disappointed with me,” Jessica replied.

 

“Aigoo.. Sooyeon ah. I know being pregnant sometimes causing you having mood swings. But, please don’t treat him like that, okay? He’s your fiance, and soon-to-be your husband and the father of your child. You need to consider on his feelings too. Like I said before, you need to tell him for whatever uncomfortable feelings you may have, so that he could be more understanding on your situation, arasso?,” Mrs. Jung said.

 

“Arasso, mom. I will, I promise,” Jessica replied with a faint smile.

 

“Good. Have you told him you will stay here tonight?,” she asked. Jessica shook her head.

 

“I just told him I wanted to visit here,” she replied.

 

“Call him after this, and tell him, arasso?,” Mrs. Jung ordered.

 

“Arasso. I will call him tonight,” she replied.

 

“Good. Alright, I need to go to the kitchen to help our maid preparing the food for dinner. You want to join?,” Mrs. Jung asked.

 

“No. I’m a bit tired after the interview and lunch meeting with my friend. I just want to take a nap at my room,” she replied as she released the hug.

 

“Alright, just go upstairs. I will call you once the dinner is ready,” Mrs. Jung said.

 

“Thanks, mom,” Jessica thanked her mother, and leaned forward to kiss her cheek before she heading to her room.

“Hey, baby,” Jessica greets her fiancee through the phone.

 

“Hey, babe. Are you still in your parent’s place?,” Sooyoung replied.

 

“Yup. I just had my dinner with them. Have you already had your dinner?,” she asked.

 

“Yeah, I just had my dinner with ramyun at home. I don’t feel like going out or ordering a takeaway food. So, are you going to have a sleepover there?,” he replied.

 

“Yeah. Krystal asked me to sleep with her tonight. She said she have lots of stories to share with me. So, are you okay with that?,” she said.

 

“I’m okay. Don’t worry about me. Have fun with her tonight, okay? Send my regards to her and to your parents as well. And, a kiss for the baby too,” Sooyoung replied. Jessica smiled upon hearing his last words. Sooyoung knew how to make her heart flutter.

 

“Baby,” Jessica said.

 

“Yeah?,” Sooyoung replied immediately.

 

“I love you,” she said.

 

“I love you too, sweetheart. I will pick you up on tomorrow morning, is that okay with you?,” he asked.

 

“Okay. Call me before you come here. Good night, baby,” she replied.

 

“Alright, sure. Good night, babe,” Sooyoung said before the call ended.

 

Jessica smiled after the short phone conversation she had with Sooyoung. Somehow she felt relieved. Sooyoung was the best in making her feel loved and secure. She felt regret for treating him bad for the past few days. She couldn’t wait to see him tomorrow and to explain everything about her cold actions towards him, so that he will understand on her situation.

“Good morning, Aunty Jung,” Sooyoung greets his soon-to-be mother-in-law.

 

“Good morning, Soo. You are here to pick up Sooyeon?,” she asked.

 

“Yes, aunty,” he replied.

 

“Ah, arasso. Come, let’s have breakfast with us. Sooyeon is still in the bathroom, washing up,” she said.

 

“Okay,” he replied and followed Mrs. Jung into the house.

 

“Annyeong! Good morning, Uncle Jung,” Sooyoung greets and bowed to his soon-to-be father-in-law.

 

“Ah, Sooyoung! Good morning! Take a seat and let’s have breakfast together,” Mr. Jung said.

 

“Dae. Thank you,” he replied politely, and immediately took his seat. The maid immediately serves the drinks and food to Sooyoung.

 

“So, how’s your work so far?,” Mr. Jung asked.

 

“Work’s good, uncle. I just involved in one drama production for this season, so my schedule is less hectic,” he replied.

 

“I see. Jessica told me last night she just finished filming her web drama,” Mr. Jung said.

 

“Yes, uncle. She just took one job only this time. Maybe she wants to take lots of rest during her pregnancy,” Sooyoung replied.

 

“I told her just to quit from being an artist, and just take a rest after you two married. You know she’s a bit stubborn. She said that’s the only job she loves to do. So, I don’t have a choice then to let her be what she wanted to be,”, Mr. jung said as he chuckled. Sooyoung was about to reply to Mr. Jung when suddenly a voice interrupted their conversation.

 

“Dad, are you talking about me behind my back?,” a familiar voice said. Both men startled, and immediately turned towards the source of the voice.

 

“Aigoo.. Sooyeon ah! I can get a heart attack, you know,” Mr. Jung scolded her while putting his hand on the chest. Jessica stuck her tongue out at her father before she walked towards Sooyoung, and gave a peck on his cheek.

 

“Aishh.. This girl. She’s going to be a mother soon, but acting like a little girl,” Mr. Jung said as he shook his head. The rest just giggled at him.

 

“What would you like to have? I will take it for you,” Sooyoung asked the moment Jessica took her seat next to him. The maid quickly poured an orange juice into the glass for her.

 

“Thanks, ahjumma,” she thanked the maid. The maid just bowed and smiled.

 

“Ermm.. tuna sandwich, please,” she replied. Sooyoung then took the sandwich and placed it on her plate.

 

“Thanks, baby,” she thanked him with a sweet smile.

 

“You’re welcome,” he replied. “I think she’s okay now. Maybe she already have heart-to-heart talk with Minyoung noona and her family,” Sooyoung thought. Somehow he felt relieved.

 

“Where’s Krystal?,” he asked with his eyes wandering around the place.

 

“Oh, she’s already went to work. Sulli picked her up just now, and they went together,” Mrs. Jung replied.

 

“I see. It’s been quite a long time since the last time I saw her. She must have been busy taking in charge Yuri’s work since they’re still on honeymoon,” Sooyoung said.

 

“Yeah, she is. She said Sulli helped her once a while, so she doesn’t feel burden at all,” Jessica said.

 

“Chincha? I see. Don’t worry, I will make sure Yuri will pay more to Krystal and Sulli once he got back from his honeymoon later,” Sooyoung replied.

 

“Aigoo.. You don’t have to do that, Sooyoung ah. She just doing her work, so he doesn't need to pay her more. I’m sure Yuri will do the same when Soojung were on leave,” Mrs. Jung said.

 

“Don’t worry, aunty. Yuri’s rich. He’s the boss now, so he got no problem in raising his staff’s salary,” Sooyoung replied as he chuckled.

 

“It’s okay, baby. Krystal just doing her job willingly, and Sulli volunteered himself to help her. You know, those lovebirds. But, if you say so, I think I don’t have any issue on it,” Jessica said as she patted on Sooyoung’s thigh.

 

“Alright, ladies and a gent! Enough with the payment issue. Let’s finish our breakfast first,” Mr. Jung interrupted, causing the rest laughed over his words. They continued their chat on random things while eating breakfast.

After bidding goodbye to her parents, Jessica and Sooyoung walking hand-in-hand towards his car. He opened the door for his fiancee, and Jessica thanked him before she went inside the car.

 

“Baby,” Jessica said.

 

“Hmm?,” Sooyoung replied, shifted his gaze at her.

 

“I’m sorry,” she apologized.

 

“For what?,” Sooyoung replied as his brows furrowed.

 

“For acting cold towards you for the past few days. I know you must be upset on me,” she said in a sad tone. Sooyoung smiled and leaned closer to her face. He pecked her lips, and patted her head gently.

 

“I understand. No worries, okay? Although you didn’t voice it out to me, I tried to understand what’s the reason behind it. So, no need to apologize from me, okay? It’s just next time, please tell me on whatever problems you may have, and I will try to help you, or giving you more space for yourself,” Sooyoung replied. Jessica suddenly couldn’t control her emotion as she leaned forward and hug him. He could feel that she was crying.

 

“Aigoo.. There, there. Don’t cry, baby. It’s not good for your health and the baby. I promise we will get through it together, okay?,” Sooyoung patted on her back as he tried to soothe her. Jessica nodded slowly. Sooyoung then pulled off the hug, and cupped her face. He used his thumbs to wipe the tears on her face. He leaned forward and kissed her lips. They shared their passionate kiss first time for the past few days. They pulled off the kiss and leaned their forehead together.

 

“I love you, Jessica Jung Sooyeon”, Sooyoung said with a sweet smile.

 

“I love you too, Choi Sooyoung,” she replied.
