My Hyorangie

 

“Dae, eomma. I know. I will see you soon, okay? Saranghae!”, Seohyun said as she hung up the call. Her mother called her just now to remind her to come home this weekend. It’s already 8:00 p.m., and she was still in her office, in a middle of completing a paperwork that need to be presented to her client on tomorrow. She let out a sigh, and put her phone on the desk. She slowly leaning her back on the chair, feeling exhausted. She decided to take a break for a while as she tried to close her eyes.

 

“Knock! Knock!”, a familiar voice being heard at the door. She was startled at first, but immediately smiled upon knowing the owner of the voice. It’s no other than her beloved fiance, Kim Hyoyeon.

 

“Hey, honey! Come on in!”, she said as she sat up straight. Hyoyeon walking toward her desk while carrying two plastic bags. He then put the plastic bags on her desk.

 

“I know you’re still not having your dinner yet. So, I brought some food for you”, he said.

 

“Thanks, honey. I really appreciate it”, Seohyun replied with a smile.

 

“Anything for you, my love!”, he cheekily said, earning a giggle from the later. “Want to take a break first?”, he asked. Seohyun nodded her head while pouting. He giggled at her cute pout, and opened his arms widely. She immediately got up from her seat, and walked towards her fiance. Hyoyeon pulled her into his embrace, and wrapped his arms around her, hugging her tight.

 

“Tired?”, he asked softly. Seohyun just nodded her head lazily. “Let’s eat, okay?”, he said. Again, Seohyun just nodded. Hyoyeon patted on her back gently before he slowly pulled off the hug, and led her to sit on the couch. He then took the plastic bags from Seohyun’s desk, and put them on the coffee table, together with his belongings.

 

“I bought you tuna sandwich and steamed goguma (sweet potato), your favorites”, he said as he took out the sandwich box from the plastic bag.

 

“Jinja?”, Seohyun’s eyes lit up, and she immediately sat up straight. Hyoyeon chuckled, and put the sandwich box and a small plastic bag in front of her.

 

“Yes, sweetheart. Eat it while it’s still hot, okay?”, Hyoyeon patted her head, and immediately got up from the couch. Seohyun managed to grab his hand before he began to walk.

 

“Where are you going?”, she asked.

 

“I forgot to take the drinks I bought earlier. I left it inside the car”, he replied. “I’ll be right back, okay?”, he said, slowly walking backwards towards the door.

 

“Okay”, she replied. “Don’t be too long!”, she said. Hyoyeon smiled, and waved his hand at her before he slowly disappeared from her sight. She then took out the still hot steamed goguma, and carefully break it into two before she slowly bite it.

 

“Mmm.. delicious!”, she said as she munched her favorite food. She was about to take another bite when suddenly she heard the phone ring. Her eyes diverted to the phone that was on the coffee table. It’s Hyoyeon’s phone.

 

“Should I answer the call?”, she said as she contemplated. She then took the phone as it was still ringing nonstop, and looked at the phone screen. Her eyes widened in surprise when she saw  the caller’s ID. “Eomma?”, she mumbles. “Urghh.. honey.. I’m sorry. I have to answer the call”, she mumbles again while tapping on the green icon.

 

“Y-yobosseyo?”, she said, stuttering.

 

“Oh, who is this? Is Hyorangie there?”, the voice asked.

 

“H-Hyorangie?”, she said in confused tone.

 

“Oh, sorry. I mean, Kim Hyoyeon, is he there?”, the voice replied.

 

“He went downstairs to take something he left inside his car. Is this Hyoyeon’s mother?”, she said as she dared herself to ask.

 

“Yes, dear. I’m Kim Hyoyeon’s mother. And, who is this?”, Mrs. Kim asked.

 

“I’m.. I’m Seo Juhyun”, she replied nervously.

 

“Ah.. Juhyun ssi. Hyorangie’s fiancee, right?”, Mrs. Kim said.

 

“H-how did you know, ma’am?”, she asked. She heard a chuckle over the line.

 

“Aigoo, Hyorangie has told me earlier right after he got engaged to you. He was so excited at that time. And, please don’t call me ma’am. I’m your future mother in-law, so call me omonim from now on, arasso?”, she said soothingly.

 

“D-dae, o-omonim”, she said shyly.

 

“Aigoo, Juhyun ah. You must be so beautiful that my Hyorangie finally open his heart to fall in love again. You know about his first marriage before, right?”, Mrs. Kim said.

“D-dae, omonim”, she replied.

 

“Please take care of my Hyorangie there, okay? Juhyun ah, I need to hang up now. Tell him to return my call, and don’t forget to remind him that he need to bring you to meet me and your abonim soon, arasso?”, Mrs. Kim said.

 

“D-dae, omonim. I will”, she replied.

 

“Alright, nice talking to you, Juhyun ah. I’ll see you later, okay? Goodbye!”, Mrs. Kim said.

 

“Nice talking to you too, omonim. Okay, goodbye!”, she replied as the call ended. She put the phone back on the coffee table. Without she realized, Hyoyeon was already there, eavesdropping the phone conversation earlier. He couldn’t stop himself from grinning upon hearing the word ‘omonim’ coming out from his fiancee’s mouth.

 

“Eomma jjang!”, he mumbles softly. He then slowly tiptoed towards the couch, and stood behind it quietly.

 

“Aishh.. where is he?”, she mumbles.

 

“I’m here”, Hyoyeon said, making the latter almost jumped off from the couch.

 

“Yah!”, she exclaimed as she was in shocked. Hyoyeon laughed at her. She pouted, and crossed her arms as she looks annoyed.

 

“Uh oh, she’s mad!”, Hyoyeon thought. He then slowly walked towards her, and put the plastic bag on the table before he sat next to his sulking princess.

 

“Sorry!”, he said as he smiled apologetically.

 

“Why are you doing that? You can cause me to have a heart attack, you know”, she replied. Hyoyeon smiled, and scooted closer to her. He wrapped his arm around her shoulder, and kissed on her cheek.

 

“I’m sorry, okay? I didn’t mean it. I just want to tease you, that’s all”, he apologized once again. Seohyun let out a sigh, and uncrossed her arms.

 

“Don’t do that next time, arasso?”, she said. Hyoyeon immediately stood up straight from the couch.

 

“Yes, ma’am. I won’t, ma’am!”, he said as he playfully salute her. Seohyun giggled on his silly act.

 

“Come, sit here”, she said while grabbing his wrist, and pulling him to sit next to her. She then took another piece of goguma, and brought it to his mouth. Hyoyeon gladly opened his mouth, and took a bite of it.

 

“Mashiseoyo!”, he exclaimed excitedly. Seohyun chuckled on his words.

 

“Never eat it before?”, she asked, and fed the goguma for herself. Hyoyeon shook his head before he swallowed the food.

 

“I used to hate eating it when I was a little. My mom forced me and my little brother to eat it since my dad had planted it a lot at the orchard he owned”, he said. “But, ever since I met you, and after I learned that it’s your favorite food, I started to like eating it, you know”, he added. Seohyun staring at him, squinting her eyes in disbelief.

 

“Waeyo?”, he asked, furrowing his brows.

 

“Are you sure that you really like it, or you just sweet talking to me?”, she said.

 

“I swear, I tell you the truth, babe”, he replied as he quickly took another goguma from the plastic bag, and eat it. “Shee, I even weat the big wone hewe”, he stated proudly with his mouth full of goguma he was chewing. Seohyun laughed as she found it funny.

 

“Yah! Eat properly!”, she exclaimed while smacking on his arm, still laughing.

 

“Teehehehehe.. arashoo”, Hyoyeon giggled while chewing the food. Seohyun couldn’t help but to continue laughing on his funny act.

 

“COUGH! COUGH!”

 

Hyoyeon coughed as he choked his food. Seohyun immediately patted on his back, and took out the mineral water bottle from the plastic bag he brought earlier. She immediately opened the bottle cap, and handed it to Hyoyeon. He took the bottle, and quickly drank the content.

 

“I’ve told you just now to eat properly, right?”, she scolding him, but looks worry.

 

“Urghh.. t-thanks”, he said after gulping the clear liquid. “I’m sorry, babe. I will listen to you next time”, he said as he handed the bottle to her. “By the way”, he paused. “I like it when you called my mom ‘omonim’ just now”, he continued.

 

“Mwoh? When.. how did you..”, Seohyun was so surprised to know as she lost for words. Hyoyeon chuckled.

 

“I’m sorry. I was accidentally eavesdropping your convo with my mom just now. I didn’t want to interrupt you”, he said as he smiled. Seohyun quickly smacked on his arm as she blushed in embarrassment.

 

“Yah! Why are you hitting me? You like hitting me nowadays, aren’t you?”, he said while caressing his arm, pouting. Seohyun giggled, and scooted closer to hug him.

 

“Aww.. I’m sorry, baby. I didn't do it purposely. It's the act of reflection. I’m sorry, okay?”, she apologized. Hyoyeon’s pout suddenly changed into a smile.

 

“Alright, apology accepted. Let’s continue eating, okay? You need to resume your work after this”, Hyoyeon said as he patted her cheek gently. Seohyun suddenly pulled off the hug, and sat up straight. She let out a sigh.

 

“Aishh.. please don’t remind me about that. I almost want to give up preparing the proposal. I’m so tired!”, she whined. Hyoyeon smiled after hearing her cute complaint and whining.

 

“Do you want me to help you then?”, he asked. Seohyun just shook her head.

 

“It’s okay, honey. I can handle it”, she replied.

 

“Alright, I will wait for you here, okay?”, he said while wrapping his arm around her shoulder.

 

“Nah, it’s okay. You can go home first if you want. I need to stay here to finish my work”, she replied while patting his thigh.

 

“No, no, no. I won’t let you stay here alone. You’re my fiancee now, and soon-to-be my wife. No, I won’t leave you alone. It’s dangerous”, he said as he disagree. “Why don’t we go home together, and you can continue your work at home?”, Hyoyeon suggested. Seohyun smiled as she felt her heart fluttered with his protective side. She leaned in to kiss his cheek. Hyoyeon raised his brows.

 

“Wae?”, he asked.

 

“Thank you”, she replied.

 

“For what?”, he asked again. Seohyun slowly leaned her head on his shoulder, and took his hand, playing with his fingers.

 

“For protecting me, and for loving me”, she said shyly. Hyoyeon smiled, and kissed on top of her head.

 

“You’re under my responsibility now. Of course I don’t want anything bad happen to you. Otherwise, your appa will kill me later”, he said as he joked. Seohyun immediately lifted her head, and pinched on his waist.

 

“Oww.. babeee..”, he whined in pain.

 

“So, you love me because you’re afraid of my appa, huh?”, she said as she glared at him. Hyoyeon shook his head while still caressing the spot where he got pinched at his waist earlier.

 

“Anni.. aishh.. I’m just joking, baby. Of course I love you because of you, not because of anyone or anything else. Why are you saying like that?”, he said.

 

“You better be. Or else, I will tell appa to chop you with his sharp knife into million pieces”, she said in a serious tone, but of course she was just joking. Hyoyeon gulped. He quickly got up from the couch, and stood in front of his lover.

 

“D-dae. Seo Juhyun.. saranghae!”, he said nervously while forming a love sign with his hands. Seohyun covered with her hand to stifle her laugh. Hyoyeon chuckled awkwardly, and slowly sat next to her.

 

“Are you still mad at me?”, he asked. Seohyun shook her head, still laughing. Hyoyeon grinned, and was about to lean in to kiss her cheek when suddenly she pushed his face away.

 

“Waeee?”, he whined. Seohyun giggled.

 

“If we keep doing like this then I can’t continue with my work, though. Just let me finish eating this food, and then we can go home”, she said.

 

“Arasso”, Hyoyeon replied while lowering his head, pouting like a small kid.

 

“Kim Hyoyeon! Don’t do like that. Otherwise, no kiss for you at all for a month, do you want that?”, she said sternly. Hyoyeon quickly lifted his head, and grinned.

 

“No, ma’am!”, he exclaimed. He then took another piece of goguma, and quickly eat it. Seohyun just shook her head while laughing at his silly act, and continue eating her sandwich. They ate their dinner happily while chatting on random things.

“Urghh.. I’m tired!”, Seohyun groaned as she plopped her body on the couch. They just arrived at her apartment. Hyoyeon smiled as he closed the door, and put his fiancee’s laptop bag on the coffee table. He walked towards the couch, and slowly sat next to Seohyun.

 

“Go and freshen up yourself first, babe. I will prepare a hot chocolate for you. You can continue your work after this”, he said as he patted her thigh gently.

 

“Arasso”, Seohyun replied lazily, and slowly got up from the couch to head to the bathroom. Hyoyeon then headed straight to the kitchen to make a hot chocolate for her.

 

After she had done with freshen up, she walked out of the bedroom to the living room. She saw Hyoyeon was sitting on the couch, his back leaning on it while closing his eyes. He fell asleep while waiting for Seohyun. She smiled at the sight, and immediately walked towards the couch. She slowly sat next to him, and put her hand on his cheek, gently caressing it while admiring his cute sleeping face.

 

“Honey, wake up”, she said softly while patting his cheek gently. Hyoyeon startled, and immediately sat up straight.

 

“Urghh.. sorry, I fell asleep”, he said while rubbing his eyes with his palm. Seohyun smiled and patted his cheek.

 

“Go take a shower now, okay?”, she said.

 

“Okay”, he said as he slowly got up from the couch. He was about to head to the bathroom when suddenly he stopped his walk, and turned his heels.

 

“I forgot to ask you about your phone convo with my mom. What have you guys been talking about?”, he asked as he walked back towards the couch.

 

“Oh, it's nothing. At first, she thought you’re the one who picked up the call. She asked about my name, and who I am. After I told her my name, she said she already knew that I’m your fiancee since you have told her before. Your mom asked you to call her back”, she explained.

 

“Ah.. so, that explains why she asked you to call her ‘omonim’, right?”, Hyoyeon said.

 

“Ermm.. yeah..”, she replied while nodding her head shyly. Hyoyeon chuckled.

 

“See, even my mom loves you. You should meet her soon. I will bring you to meet my parents later”, he said while grinning.

 

“Aishh..”, Seohyun blushed. “My mom also called me today, and asked me to come home this weekend to have dinner with my parents. Are you free this weekend?”, she asked. Hyoyeon scratching his head, trying to remember his working schedule.

 

“I think I’m free this weekend. Yeah, we can meet you parents this weekend”, he replied.

 

“Jinja?”, she asked again. Hyoyeon just nodded his head smilingly.

 

“Yeayy.. gomawo, Hyorangie!”, she thanked him excitedly. Hyoyeon furrowed his brows upon hearing his nickname being called by his fiancee.

 

“Hyorangie? How did you...? Yeah, right. I forgot that you have talked to my mother”, he said as he smacked his forehead. Seohyun chuckled while looking at him.

 

“Yeah. Can I call you with that nickname?”, she asked.

 

“Aishh.. eomma!”, he grunted slowly, but loud enough for Seohyun to hear it.

 

“Why? You don’t like it?”, she asked.

 

“Ah, anni.. it’s just that, a bit childish..”, he said as he smiled sheepishly, making the latter chuckle on his cuteness.

 

“Alright, Hyorangie. Go shower now!”, she ordered while grinning.

 

“Hyunnie ah.. aishh.. jebal..”, he whined.

 

“Ara, ara. Go shower now, okay?”, she said.

 

“Dae, ahjumoni!”, he replied while pouting, and slowly heading to the bathroom. Seohyun shook her head while chuckled, and then resume her work.
