Chapter 9

A Cracked Reflection

That night, after an amazing dinner which Youngjae insisted on helping clean up after, Yongguk took on the duty of taking the new recruit to his room.

“It’s really not that confusing once you get to know your way around here…” Yongguk’s deep voice echoed through the empty hallways as he led Youngjae through the seemingly endless maze of hallways. “But… For now, we can’t have you wandering around the place alone-“

Youngjae cut Yongguk off, “Don’t worry about it. I understand…” He couldn’t help but smile as the elder ruffled his hair in a brotherly fashion and grinned.

“You really are something…” He said, pushing open the door to their right. “Okay, so, this will be your room…” he said, flicking on the light and motioning around the practically empty room. “Sorry about the lack of window… it’s safer to sleep in the inner rooms.”

Youngjae nodded in understandment once more, “It also makes it easier to sleep in in the mornings.” He said with a slight smirk, trying to hide the smile as Yongguk gave him a stern look, “I mean, of course… Safety is number one priority.”

With a roll of his eyes, Yongguk continued a bit farther into the room and motioned to the closed door on the far side, “There is a personal bathroom, but, it’s shared between this room and the one next to yours, so… be mindful at night not to make too much noise, okay? Himchan and Daehyun are going to go out to your apartment tomorrow and pick up all of your things… They promised not to go through anything, but… I can’t promise anything.”

“Why can’t I just go get everything?” Before Yongguk could reply, the answer popped into Youngjae’s mind and he shook his head, “Never mind, I still understand. You don’t want me to see where we are located at, so that everything remains safe here.” He smiled a little at Yongguk’s surprised expression, “I’m perfectly fine with staying indoors for a while… it’s better for my skin anyways.”

Yongguk let out a laugh, pulling Youngjae into his side in a loose head lock as he rubbed at the other’s hair with his knuckles, “How did you ever make it in this sort of business. Channie is going to start babying you worse than he does with Zelo!” He let Youngjae go as the younger quickly went about trying to fix his hair. “Alright, I’ll let you get some sleep; it’s probably been a long day for you… Just, go through to the next room if you need anything, okay?”

Before Youngjae could even ask who his technical ‘roommate’ of sorts was, Yongguk had already left, leaving Youngjae alone. Deciding that he’d only go next door if he absolutely needed too, Youngjae went over to the made up bed and sat down on the edge, surprised at the softness of the mattress and the silky smooth sheets that covered it. He jumped up and flipped off the light before stripping down to his boxers and sliding under the covers with a content sigh.

Yongguk was right, it had been a long day for Youngjae, and nothing felt better right now then the idea of getting a good night’s sleep without the sudden worry of a gang showing up at any minute.

“Youngjae hyuuuung. Hyuuuung~”

Youngjae swatted at the sudden voice that was right above his ear, blowing warm air across his face and tickling his skin. He rolled over, tucking the covers tightly around his shoulders as he curled up into a ball to try to get some more sleep.

“Hyung! Wake up!!”

Youngjae let out a moan of pure annoyance as his bed dipped down with added weight, the sound turned straight into a grunt of uncomfortable pain as a weight plopped down right on top of him. “Ulllgh… ge’off…” he mumbled, trying to roll out from under the weight, but a pair of hands pinned him down.

“No Hyung! It’s time to wake up!!”

Youngjae cracked his eyes open slowly, squinting up at the form of a smiling brown haired boy. “Ulgh… Jongup, get off of me, please…” he whined, trying to cover himself up properly and slide out from under Jongup.

“Do you promise to get up?”

“Ullllgggh! Yes, I promise.” Youngjae was confronted with a pinky finger in his face and he let out another exasperated sigh as he drew his arm out from under the warm covers and locked pinkies with Jongup.

The younger smiled and hopped up from the bed, “I brought you in clean clothes for today, I’ll just wait outside for you… Don’t go back to sleep though, you promised!”

Youngjae nodded, waiting for Jongup to leave the room before he promptly rolled over to face the wall, closing his eyes and trying to will himself to go back to sleep.

“I was worried you had fallen back asleep, hyung!” Jongup said with a smile as the door opened and Youngjae came out of the room slowly, dragging his feet. After seeing the sincere smile on Jongup’s face, Youngjae felt any anger, no matter how small it had been to begin with, over being woken up melt away.

Jongup reached up, fixing a few stray strands of Youngjae’s hair before taking the other’s hand and leading him through the house, “Himchan hyung made us breakfast before he left!” He said excitedly.

“Us as in everyone… or… U…Us as in just me and you?” Youngjae asked, stifling a yawn midway through his sentence.

“Just me and you, hyung. That’s okay, right?”

Youngjae nodded; letting his eyes drift closed a little as he trusted Jongup’s judgment in the layout of the odd building. It didn’t seem like long before he found himself sitting before a plate of eggs and bacon and a few slices of fried ham. Youngjae immediately began to all but inhale the food set before him, he looked up however when Jongup began to laugh.

“Seriously, hyung, You eat almost exactly like Daehyun hyung.” He said, hiding his smile behind the back of his hand.

Youngjae couldn’t help but smile just a bit despite his very full cheeks. He finished chewing and swallowed before trying to speak, “I can’t help it… I’ve never met anyone who could cook as well as Himchan hyung.”

“It’s the bunny apron he wears.” Jongup said with false seriousness, “It has magical cooking abilities.”

Jongup and Youngjae made eye contact, trying their hardest to remain serious before they both burst into laughter. When Jongup finally caught his breath, he motioned to their plates, “We should finish up, we have plans for today!”

Youngjae looked up with raised eyebrows, “Really? What kind of plans.”

Jongup’s smile only widened, “I can’t tell you, hyung. It’s a surprise!”

If Youngjae had been asked, he would have freely admitted with a bit of embarrassment that he had been worried about Jongup’s ‘secret plans’, because, after all, the younger was part of a highly feared gang. Youngjae knew that Yongguk didn’t want him leaving the hide out for the time being, but, it had crossed his mind on multiple occasions that it didn’t matter if they couldn’t go outside, the gangster might have had something sinister inside the building for ‘entertainment’.

In the end, all of the worrying was for nothing as Youngjae soon learned that Jongup’s plans included playing video games until Zelo came back from ‘talking to Bang’ about ‘important stuff’ as he put it.

“Yah-hah! I win again, hyung!!” Jongup said, jumping up from the couch to do a victory dance around the space between the couch and the TV as Youngjae flopped back into the soft cushions with a pout on his face.

“That’s because you are cheating, Jongup!” he said, sticking his tongue out at the still smiling younger boy.

“Just because I am good doesn’t mean I’m cheating~” The younger said, still hopping around the place in a frenzied dance that included a lot of hip hop style bouncing  and a few b-boy style freezes on the ground.

“Hey, yours is green!” Youngjae tossed his controller to the side and sat up straight as Jongup fell out of his b-boy freeze and landed on the ground with a ‘thump’.

“What is, hyung?” Jongup asked, rubbing the side of his head as he sat on the floor and stared up at Youngjae.

“T… The bunny thing…” Youngjae said, motioning to his own hip before pointing back at Jongup’s, “Yours was green… I thought they were supposed to be pink?”

Jongup stared in confusion before bursting into laughter, doubling over and rolling on the floor as he tried to catch his breath.

Youngjae, however, flopped back and pouted, “Yah! Don’t laugh at your hyung like that! I was being serious!”

“That’s why it’s so funny, hyung!” Wiping the tears of laughter from his eyes, Jongup pulled himself up from the floor and stood up, pulling up the edge of his shirt to expose his hip. Right within the sharp dip in of his V-line, was a tattoo much like Himchan’s; as Youngjae had pointed out, instead of the pink mask with the six black dots, this bunny had a green one with four spikes on the edge of the mask and a pattern with black triangles. “Yeah, mine is green.” He said, before pulling his shirt back down to hide it once more. “It wouldn’t be a very manly tattoo if it were pink, now would it?” He asked, grinning.

“I don’t know Jongup… Don’t you think the whole idea of it being a bunny takes away from the ‘manliness’ already?” Youngjae asked, raising an eyebrow.

“Huh… never thought of that…”

“Never thought of what, Jonguppie hyung?”

Both Jongup and Youngjae looked up as Zelo came bouncing into the room, his black and blue hair was curled instead of flat, making him look impossibly young.

“That bunnies really aren’t that manly, despite being in tattoo form.”

Zelo blinked, thinking it over before nodding, “Does this make Channie hyung’s extra not manly because it is pink?” he asked innocently, causing both Jongup and Youngjae to burst into laughter.

“You know, Channie hyung is going to know we were talking about him, right?” Zelo said once they all had managed to catch their breath from the laughter.

“R… Really?” Youngjae asked nervously.

“Himchan hyung has ears everywhere.” Jongup said, looking around as though the black haired male would suddenly pop out of nowhere.

“… Let’s bake him a cake… So he won’t be mad!” Zelo said suddenly, grabbing Youngjae and Jongup’s hands and dragging them off to the kitchen without another word.

Omo, so much more was supposed to happen in this chapter but... oh the fluff, it got me! *bricked*

In all seriousness, I decided to move what I had planned over a few chapters and have just a little bit of a fluffy filler (not that I've actually written anything important yet, this whole story feels like it's been nothing but fillers and fluff).

I hope you guys enjoy it none the less.

Cuddles,

Lynn

[If I can type it all, This might end up as a double update... maybe]

Chapter 61: First off, I'm really glad I read this story after it was completed, or it would've messed me up and hurt me way more because I wouldn't've known if there was a happy ending. Secondly, the fact that I KNEW there was going to be a happy ending and things were okay in the end but was still affected so much by the things that happened was crazy. Like, I knew things ended up well because I skimmed chapter 60 beforehand because I didn't want to end up reading such a long story just to be wrecked at the end because there wasn't a happy ending. But this story was just so greatly written, everything made sense, and at no point did I have the thought of anything being unnecessary. I felt what the characters were feeling, and every time good things were happening, I would just say to myself, "It's gonna hurt when the betrayal comes" (given that it was based off the One Shot MV).

I also like to think that at the marriage scene, it's just this weird conglomerate of gang members (like Nu'est and Infinite) and cops from Youngjae's old job that have set aside grudges for the happy day.
