Chapter 53

A Cracked Reflection

I updated twice in the past few hours now, so make sure you go back and read chapter 52 before you continue. Okay?

And chapter 51 if you havn't been on in a few days. Okay, love you~ :D

Himchan stared down the eyesight of his gun, his eyes narrowed in hatred and disgust as he crossed the room slowly, kicking the gun out of Hyunseung’s lifeless hand, just to be sure. “Dae… I need you out here now.” He said, looking up at the closet door as a very pale and shocked looking Daehyun stumbled out.

When the younger had been talking to Youngjae and trying to calm him down, Himchan had taken the opportunity to slip out of the closet and into the bathroom so that both sides of the room would be covered. Thinking back on the hasty decision, Himchan couldn’t believe that it had paid off. He pulled his pushed his gun into his belt before pulling his cell phone from his pocket, holding down his first speed dial as he collapsed to his knees and ignored the nausea building up in his throat. With the phone held securely between his shoulder and his ear, Himchan began to search Hyunseung’s body, looking for the keys to Youngjae’s handcuffs.

The second Daehyun had stumbled from the closet, he collapsed to Youngjae’s side, pulling him close to his chest as his arms instinctively wound around him. The sweet nothings flew from his lips as he began to rock them back and forth, ignoring the way Youngjae struggled weakly against his hold, trying his hardest to push him away.

Daehyun ignored the way that his voice only seemed to make Youngjae sob harder, his tugs and pulls against his bound wrists only becoming harsher as time ticked on.

“Himchan, have you found the key yet?” Daehyun asked somewhat impatiently. He knew if Youngjae continued to struggle the way he was, he’d only because more damage to his already cut open and bleeding wrists.

“Give me a second, please.” Himchan snapped, glaring down at Hyunseung as he pushed his fingers through each of his pockets. He paused his search as he sat up straight and grasped the cell phone in his hand to push it against his face properly. “Yongguk! Thank god… Next time answer  your damn phone on the first ring—what, yes that is Youngjae crying in the back ground…… No I do not have time to explain, just—yeah, okay, but… Yongguk! Shut the hell up!! I need you to get your over here… Okay? Alright, thanks.” Himchan hug up the cell phone, tossing it onto the floor as he went back to his search.

Daehyun watched Himchan, the beginning of doubt that Hyunseung even carried a key on him forming in his mind. That was until Himchan popped up with the key, rushing over to their side. Daehyun instantly tried to maneuver the practically unresponsive boy so that Himchan could unlock his handcuffs.

“, Youngjae… Stop fighting us, we’re trying to help…” Daehyun said quickly, lowering Youngjae onto the floor so that he could help pin him down so that Himchan could get the damned handcuffs off of him.

Himchan was in the process of turning the key into the right position when his hands suddenly froze.

“Hyung! What are you doin…g…” Daehyun’s voice trailed off as his mouth went dry with sudden panic.

Because there Himchan sat with a gun pressed to the back of his skull.

“Get away from Youngjae… now.”

Himchan winced a bit, his movements slow.

“I said ing now!”

Himchan suddenly scrambled away, sitting back on the floor and meekly holding up his hands in surrender to show that he wasn’t going for his gun.

Daehyun, however, held his ground. “No…” He said slowly, watching as the gun moved from Himchan to himself. “We let him go once, Minhyuk, and this is what happened… he’s not going with any more of you guys.”

Minhyuk watched Daehyun carefully down the eyesight of his gun, a sudden sigh passing his lips, “I swear to god if you hurt him, I will put a bullet between your eyes.” He growled, letting his gun fall to his side where he returned it to the holster. Quickly, he backed up to the door and leaned halfway into the hallway. “In here, Yukwon!” He shouted, going back over to where they were gathered on the floor. Minhyuk took the key that had fallen from Himchan’s hands, and with the ease that one learns from constantly dealing with struggling fugitives, unlocked the handcuffs from around Youngjae’s wrists.

Daehyun couldn’t help but flinch as the brunette stared down at the metal for a few seconds before throwing them across the room and in a fit of anger standing up and giving a sharp kick to Hyunseung’s lifeless body. “Stupid, lying, son of a …” he growled.

Daehyun gathered Youngjae into his arms once more, the sobbing boy curled up against his chest and Daehyun ignored the incoherent mumblings as Youngjae talked to hallucinations only he could see.

“Minhyuk… There you are, this place is huge—what are they doing here?!” The red head that had entered the room froze the second he was in the doorway. Instantly his hand went to his side, but Minhyuk stopped him.

“Yukwon… I think they are here to help him…”

“Then where were they a month ago when he went missing? They could have helped then…”

“Yukwon...”

“Don’t ‘Yukwon’ me like that… What if they are here to hurt him for what he did! You heard what Yongguk told P.O when he went to him for help—“

The rest of what Yukwon had wanted to say to Minhyuk was cut short as Himchan surged forward, grabbing at the others shirt before pinning him back to the wall. “Don’t you ever say that we would hurt Youngjae.” He growled, his raspy voice deep with anger. “He is our family. We don’t hurt family, no matter what has happened.”

Yukwon stared up at Himchan, choosing not to act back in violence as he watched the tears threaten to spill over in Himchan’s eyes. He sighed a little, falling slack in Himchan’s hold. “I’m sorry…”

Daehyun stared up at Minhyuk, “What does he mean by when P.O went to Yongguk hyung for help… Hyung… did you know this?... Did you know that Youngjae’s been missing??”

Himchan sighed, shrugging, “Yongguk told me last night…”

Daehyun stared at him in anger, an odd mix of betrayal swirling through him. He tried to remind himself of all the times he had snapped at his family every time Youngjae’s name was mentioned. He tried to tell himself that they had only done what they thought would be best for him to get over Youngjae.

Yet at the same time, with Youngjae in his arms once more, he was angry. He was furious that they thought it would be a good idea to leave him out of the loop, especially when Youngjae had been in danger.

He glanced down at the boy in question, a sigh on his lips.

He wanted to be over Youngjae. Daehyun wanted to stop loving him. His heart hurt, his head hurt and he felt sick to his stomach when he thought about the way Youngjae had used him, the way that he had broken his heart and left without any sort of goodbye.

He couldn’t help but think of the way Youngjae had flashed his badge to them when he’d admitted to it all being a set up. The way he never once came to visit him when he had been locked in that cell, to at least explain anything to him, to tell him if the relationship they had shared had been a lie too.

But as Daehyun stared at Youngjae, he couldn’t feel angry towards him. Not when Youngjae was still mumbling nonsense to the hallucinations between the hiccups and shaky sobs. Not when Youngjae’s hands were now clutching desperately at Daehyun’s shirt, his body flush against his own.

Daehyun wanted to forget so much, but he couldn’t forget Youngjae’s smile. The feeling of happiness when their hands would connect and their fingers would intertwine. The sparks of butterflies in his stomach when Youngjae whispered those words to him at night. The coil of lust in his abdomen when it was his name spilling from Youngjae’s lips.

Daehyun didn’t want to stop loving Youngjae… he couldn’t.

Himchan stood off to the side, his arms crossed tightly as he watched over Daehyun as he continued to hold Youngjae close, staring down at him as a mix of emotions seemed to flash through his eyes. Himchan knew it would be a while before the two could ever get over all of this, but as he watched his dongsaengs, he couldn’t help but hope they would. That Youngjae would somehow make it up to Daehyun and that Daehyun would forgive Youngjae in turn.

He focused part of his attention onto Minhyuk and U-kwon as Minhyuk moved Hyunseung’s body from the room and U-kwon placed a phone call. He sighed finally. “Are me and Daehyun safe to be here?”

U-kwon looked up at Himchan as he waited for his phone to connect, “Uhm, yeah, I don’t see why not…  If you’re worried about anyone else showing up, we wouldn’t do that. We’ll wait until you guys are completely cleared before we contact anyone about this.”

Himchan nodded, “Thanks.” He said, before turning to Minhyuk, “Let me help.” He said, reaching down to grab Hyunseung’s feet as he helped Minhyuk lift up the dead weight to move the body from the room. “What did you do with the girl?” He asked.

“Who? Hyuna?” Minhyuk grunted as he dropped Hyunseung’s body into the next room with an unceremonious thump. Himchan followed suit before standing up and looking at Minhyuk and nodding his head.

“Well, U-kwon nearly shot her because she pulled a gun, but I sorta took the end of my gun to her head so now she’s kinda unconscious in our car… probably will be for a while too… Gotta have someone to arrest for doing this to Youngjae, right?” He smiled a little.

Himchan shrugged, “Guess so.” He said, going back to Daehyun’s old room.

Youngjae had finally passed out, and Daehyun had moved him from the floor and into the bed. He hovered over him, getting a bit testy any times U-kwon moved to close to the bed, and ultimately to close to Youngjae.

It wasn’t long until the sounds of someone stomping through the warehouse reached them and Himchan flinched, almost reaching for his gun until he saw who it was.

JB strode into the room, lugging a rather large medical bag with him. “Out. I want everyone out now.” He said, his voice strained as he set the bag next to the bed Youngjae had been moved into.

Minhyuk sighed, tapping Yukwon’s arm as he pulled the slightly unwilling boy from the room to give JB privacy. Himchan, however, had troubles doing the same with Daehyun, who practically would not move a centimeter from the spot he was rooted to at the foot of Youngjae’s bed.

“I’m not going.”

“Daehyun, JB needs room to work-“

“Only Daehyun can stay. I might need assistance.” JB mumbled, glancing over at Daehyun before turning his attention back to Youngjae.

Himchan sighed, crossing his arms before slipping out of the room where Minhyuk and Yukwon stood. He kept a bit of distance between himself and them, shifting his weight nervously between his feet.

“… Himchan…”

Himchan looked up, “Yeah…”

“I didn’t mean to insult you or Daehyun earlier… It’s… It’s just been really stressful. Uhm… I didn’t… mean to imply that you were here to hurt him... Youngjae spoke highly of you.”

Himchan held Yukwon’s gaze for a few seconds before having to look away, blinking hard, “Dunno why… I couldn’t protect him…” He mumbled.

Back in the room, JB began unpacking his medical supplies. “Daehyun, I need you to go find some sort of bucket or something, then go in the bathroom and get some warm water and wash clothes…” JB said, his voice almost robotic as he went through the actions that had long since been committed to memory, trying to ignore the fact that it was Youngjae that was lying in the bed once again. “Please.”

“Okay…” Daehyun finally moved from his spot. He leaned out the door, “Himchan? Can you go get me a big pot from the kitchen?”

“Uh… okay?”

Daehyun pulled the door shut again, going into the bathroom to start the water so that it would go ahead and warm up. By the time Himchan knocked on the door with a confused expression with the pot in his hands, Daehyun had gotten the water to the perfect temperature. He didn’t offer any explanation as he shut the door in Himchan’s face and moved about to fill the pot with water.

Daehyun set it next to JB before going back to the bathroom to grab whatever wash cloths and towels that he could find.

“Thanks…” JB’s voice was a mere whisper as he took the offered supplies, immediately submerging the first wash cloth into the water before ringing it out and beginning the difficult task of trying to get all of the dried blood from Youngjae’s wrists so that he could see the damage that had been done this time.

“Hyunseung wouldn’t listen to Yukwon last time…” JB began, unable to stop himself as the words began to poor out. “They weren’t actually supposed to hurt him… One of Minhyuk’s friends were going to just put makeup on Youngjae to make it look like he’d been hurt. Hyunseung wanted it to look real… he wouldn’t let me treat Youngjae until you all were arrested… He was convinced you guys had brainwashed him somehow, and he wasn’t to be trusted.” He rinsed out the wash cloth, barely even noticing as the water begin to take on a red tint. “Yukwon said he kept waking up from nightmares in fits of panic……” JB’s voice began to trail off as he turned Youngjae’s arm over to inspect his wrist. He let out a small sigh, “He might need stitches again.”

Daehyun watched JB work, his arms crossed tight over his chest as he tried to remain silent and listen to what JB was saying.

It was mostly rambling as JB went on about the medical knowledge, occasionally getting off topic and slating into something completely random. Daehyun let him continue on though. He knew it must have held some sort of merit for JB to be able to talk through patching up his friend, because as hard as it was for Daehyun to look down at the obvious signs of the abuse Hyunseung had put Youngjae through, he couldn’t imagine what it was like for JB. To see each wound and know exactly what it was that Hyunseung had done to cause it, and know how much pain it would cause Youngjae.

Daehyun shook his head to clear the thoughts away as he tried to focus completely as JB tried to get his attention.

“I’m sorry, I didn’t catch that.”

“I asked if you could help me take off his shirt.”

“Uhm, okay, but why?” Daehyun asked as he stepped forward and moved to sit on the edge of the bed. He carefully lifted Youngjae up into a sitting position. He let the younger boy rest against him as he reached for the hem of his shirt, carefully easing it up.

“Hyunseung broke a few of his ribs last time… I want to make sure the bruising isn’t too bad this time… Besides, there’s a bit of blood on his shirt, and I’m not sure if it’s his or not, and he really doesn’t need any infected cuts right now.” JB said, sitting across from Daehyun as he helped remove his friend’s shirt. “… oh my god…”

Daehyun looked up, “What… what’s wrong, JB?”

“Turn him over, now…” JB got off the bed quickly, moving to make room for Youngjae to be rested on his stomach so that his was exposed.

The door flung open and slammed shut just as fast before any of the other three could comprehend what had just happened. “I can’t do it anymore, Himchan. You go help JB.”

Himchan watched as Daehyun stalked away with a bit of nervousness. Himchan went into the room with what he hoped was a clear head. He couldn’t help but turn over the thoughts of what might have caused Daehyun to storm off in such anger.

A sort of relief washed over him as he realized that Youngjae was shirtless, the thought that Daehyun had been banned from the room by JB because his and Youngjae’s previous intimate relationship making perfect sense.

However, the relief was short lived as his eyebrows furrowed and he drew closer and began to notice the little things like the way JB’s hands were shaking as he withdrew the red stained wash cloth from Youngjae’s back and dipped it back into the tinted water to try and rinse it clean.

“JB, what’s going on—“ Himchan froze, staring down with wide eyes, “O-oh my god…” Himchan nearly collapsed as JB shifted away just enough for Himchan to see what had made Daehyun so upset, what had rendered the nurse completely silent and shaking.

The once smooth skin of Youngjae’s back was covered in deep bruises of different shapes and sizes and came in a variety of colors signaling the different stages of healing, along with small cuts where the skin had been split in a few areas.

However, all of that was minor compared to the pattering of deep red gashes carved across his back, the lines crudely formed and sure to leave behind bad scaring, forever branding Youngjae in the only word that Hyunseung found fit.

Because, carved deep into the skin of Youngjae’s back, was the word “Traitor”.

Himchan took a deep breath, forcing himself to look away from the deep wounds and study Youngjae’s friend. “Hey, JB… you go change the water… I’ll… I’ll take care of this part.”

JB didn’t argue as he immediately stood up and grabbed the pot, rushing off to the bathroom.

Himchan sat gingerly on the edge of the bed, mindful not to move too much and risk hurting Youngjae. “Yoo Youngjae… we leave you alone and look what sorts of trouble you get into…” Himchan mumbled, gently his fingers through Youngjae’s hair. “I wish I could have done more for you… I should have protected you… made you come with us or something… I should have at least asked about you. Maybe we could have found you sooner.” He sighed softly, “He won’t admit it, but… Daehyun would have liked that. You know… he’s been all but pouting this past month. You spoiled him, Jae… he still loves you… so much, we can all tell. He barely sleeps without you by his side and in his arms… I swear, in his sleep he will even try to cuddle one of us, and we have to let him, just so he can get some sleep.”

Himchan began to gently try to wipe the dried blood from Youngjae’s skin, “He might be mad for a little while… we all might be… but… that doesn’t mean we wanted this to happen…” He sighed again. “You’re not a traitor, Youngjae.”

Not as long as I wanted it to be, definetly not as long as chapter 52, but I've decided to extend the story to 60 chapters. That's all. I might end up with less, but it will be 60 at the most.

Okays, now, I'm about to loop around to 24 hours again, and I've got to work tonight, so, I'm gonna go take a nap, as it is 8 in the morning. Woo!

Hope you guys enjoy!

Also... don't think what you see now is all that Hyunseung did to Youngjae...

So much more happened. >3

Chapter 61: First off, I'm really glad I read this story after it was completed, or it would've messed me up and hurt me way more because I wouldn't've known if there was a happy ending. Secondly, the fact that I KNEW there was going to be a happy ending and things were okay in the end but was still affected so much by the things that happened was crazy. Like, I knew things ended up well because I skimmed chapter 60 beforehand because I didn't want to end up reading such a long story just to be wrecked at the end because there wasn't a happy ending. But this story was just so greatly written, everything made sense, and at no point did I have the thought of anything being unnecessary. I felt what the characters were feeling, and every time good things were happening, I would just say to myself, "It's gonna hurt when the betrayal comes" (given that it was based off the One Shot MV).

I also like to think that at the marriage scene, it's just this weird conglomerate of gang members (like Nu'est and Infinite) and cops from Youngjae's old job that have set aside grudges for the happy day.
