Chapter 11

A Cracked Reflection

Youngjae had spent as little time as possible in the shower after Himchan had come to warn him of Daehyun’s intentions. Once he had gotten out and dried off enough to pull on his clothes, it had only taken Daehyun a mere five minutes to hunt him down and thank him over and over again for the cheese cake.

Likewise, it had taken him two hours with the help of Zelo and Jongup to finish cleaning up the kitchen so that Himchan could make dinner, after which, the rest of the members ate the chocolate cake that had been made while Daehyun devoured the rest of the cheesecake by himself. It took another three days to get the last bits of flour from him hair (seeing as after it had dried, the flour had turned into basic cement in his hair, worrying Youngjae to the point of he was scared he would have to actually cut off the rest of his hair). By the end of day five, Youngjae had learned his way around the building well enough that he didn’t need to anyone to show him the way back and forth between the main room and his bedroom.

It wasn’t until day six with B.A.P that Himchan approached Youngjae and Daehyun as they sat together at the kitchen table, both staring dejectedly at the soggy cereal that had been served for breakfast.

“You guys can not seriously expect me to get up and make you breakfast every morning!” Himchan was saying, his hands on his hips as he rolled his eyes, “Especially not with the fact that you’ve all but eaten us out of house and home, Daehyun!” Himchan moved around the kitchen before grabbing a piece of lined paper and slamming it down on the table in front of Daehyun, “You’re in charge of going shopping this week.”

Daehyun let out a grown, slumping back in his seat, “But! Channie hyung!! Why can’t you do it this week?!”

“I did it last week! And every week before that!” Himchan said back, throwing up his hands before covering his ears, “I am not listening to you whine anymore! You and Youngjae go now so I can at least make something decent for lunch today.”

Youngjae, nearly chocking on the soggy cereal, coughed until he could catch his breath and looked up at Himchan, “Sorry, hyung, I didn’t catch that…”

Himchan shook a finger at Youngjae, “Nah-uh. If you’re going to live here, then you’re not getting out of shopping duty! And that’s final!” With that, Himchan his heel and made to leave, stopping at the doorway to warn Daehyun, “And if I were you, I would stick to exactly what is on that list, because… I have eyes and ears everywhere.” He warned, smirking as his eyes glowed with an intense sort of psychotic gleam, enough to cause both Daehyun and Youngjae to shudder.

“Might as well head out now…” Daehyun mumbled, pushing away his bowl of cereal, “I don’t think I could take another bite of this crap.”

Youngjae bit back the laughter as he pushed away his bowl too, “Hey, you said it first.” He agreed, smiling.

It had taken all but five minutes for Daehyun and Youngjae to deem their appearances worthy of going to the store, and with the shopping list safely tucked away in Daehyun’s pocket, they headed out.

Youngjae was never one to complain, and with how nice the members of B.A.P had been to him in the past week, he certainly wasn’t going to find a way to complain about being stuck inside the hide out for days on end. It wasn’t that he was getting antsy stuck inside there for so long, but, Youngjae felt a sort of relief wash over him as the fresh air and sunlight danced across his skin as he and Daehyun walked through the fairly empty streets and to the local market.

“It must be nice…” Daehyun mumbled finally, breaking the comfortable silence between the two of them.

“What must be nice, hyung?” Youngjae asked, looking at Daehyun with a raise of his eyebrows.

“You know… being outside again. I’m not sure if Himchan hyung actually realized that it was you that he sent out with me to go shopping…” Daehyun laughed lightly, looking at Youngjae, “No offence though… I don’t think Yongguk will mind much at this point… I’m still not even sure how you managed to get the street credit that’s in your file… You haven’t even so much as killed a bug since you’ve been with us.”

“No true, I totally crushed that spider that was in Jongup’s room two nights ago!” Youngjae couldn’t help but smile as Daehyun laughed again, shoving at Youngjae’s shoulder lightly.

“You know that’s not what I meant.”

Youngjae sighed a little, looking forward, “Yeah, I know… just… Everyone has a past, hyung. Just because someone doesn’t let it rule their outlook on every single day, doesn’t make it any less there.”

Daehyun nodded a little, “Maybe… you know… someday you can tell me about this past of yours… Maybe even throw in where you managed to learn that cheese cake recipe?”

It was Youngjae’s turn to laugh as he playfully pushed his shoulder against Daehyun, “If you wanted the recipe, all you had to do was ask…” He said, shaking his head, “Jongup was right about you… you really do just think about food…” He grinned.

Daehyun gasped, a look of mock hurt crossing his face, “Ouch, Jae, that hurts.” He said. They rounded the corner, bumping straight into pair of guys.

“Wow… Easier than expected, Hoya.” One of the guys said, a grin spreading on his thick lips as he looked to the red head next to him.

Much easier than expected, Dongwoo.”

Youngjae looked to Daehyun quickly, sharing a quick gaze before Daehyun grabbed at his arm, mouthing out a single, “Run” before trying to turn and drag Youngjae back the way they had come. Instead, they were met with two more people blocking them off from running.

“Aww, look, they think they can get away… How cute.”

Daehyun immediately pulled on Youngjae’s arm, trying to pull the younger behind him to offer at least some sort of protection.

The boy smiled, an intense fire that could almost rival Himchan’s glowed within his dark eyes. “Grab them.”

Daehyun’s mind went blank as he reached for his waistband where the single gun was hidden away the second that Youngjae had been yanked from his grasp. The boy with the fierce eyes grinned even more as he approached Daehyun, “Tsk, Much to slow.” He said. Before Daehyun could register the movement, he was being shoved backwards roughly, his head colliding with the brick wall of the building next to the sidewalk. Everything spun and tilted sideways as the bright white stars spotted across his vision. The desperate shout of his own name flooded his ears, invading the slowly blackening consciousness as Daehyun fell to the ground, his eyes closing slowly.

Pain. Daehyun was defiantly aware of the pain that was throbbing within his head, and at that moment, that was all he could think about.

“Tchyeah… And what makes you think I’m going to talk to the sorry likes of you—ung”

Daehyun winced at the sound of skin striking skin and Youngjae’s sharp intakes of air. He moved his fingers, wanting nothing more than to just get up and help the younger but the apparent rope around his wrist kept him from so much as getting up from the straight backed chair he was in. His heart thudded painfully in his chest as he began to grow more aware of his surroundings, even with his eyes closed. Just from the movement in the room, Daehyun figured there had to be at least five other people in the room, excluding him and Youngjae.

Daehyun let out a sharp gasp, his eyes flying open as thin fingers wound into his hair, yanking his head up so that he was forced to look up at the person standing directly behind his chair. “Trying to play dead… Let your partner take all the head?” Daehyun grit his teeth as he stared up at the guy from earlier, his fierce eyes boring holes into his own.

“Maybe he’ll actually talk, L.” The guy who had gone by Hoya earlier spoke up, brushing his red hair from his face as he walked over to inspect Daehyun as L let Daehyun’s head fall forward once more.

“He may talk, but he doesn’t know anything important!”

Hoya turned to Youngjae once more, raising an eyebrow, “Oh, really now… And you do?”

Youngjae let out a loud laugh, “Well, You’ll just have to find out, now won’t you?” The laughter in Youngjae’s voice disappeared quickly as a dark brown haired boy walked over quickly, his fist slamming into Youngjae’s jaw.

Hoya jumped forward, “Sungyeol. You can’t break his jaw just yet… We need him to be able to talk.”

Sungyeol rolled his eyes, fidgeting between his feet, “He’s annoying.” He said, looking at Hoya.

“Yeah, well, if he gets to annoying, I’ll call you back in here, okay?” Hoya said, patting Sungyeol’s head at the obvious younger one grinned and nodded, walking away from where Youngjae and Daehyun sat facing one another.

While the others were talking, Daehyun quickly tried to make eye contact with Youngjae, scanning the others face for any signs of mistreatment. He took note of the rapidly reddening of the others cheek along with not only a split lip, but the fast forming bruise along his jaw. All in all though, Daehyun had defiantly seen worse. He couldn’t help the ghost of a smile that touched his own lips as Youngjae made eye contact with him and shrugged softly, as to say that it was okay.

“So…” A new voice startled Daehyun, a male with dirty blonde hair and small eyes sat down backwards in the chair he had drug over, resting his crossed arms on the back of the chair. He looked over at Youngjae, a smile forming on his lips, “Are you actually going to give us some information now, or… Are we going to have to resort in some… new tactics.” He gave Daehyun a pointed look, smiling sweetly. “Now… You can call me Sungkyu…” He said, turning back to Youngjae.

Youngjae shrugged the best that he could, shifting uncomfortably in his chair, giving Sungkyu a bored, unamused stare.

“Who’s in charge of B.A.P?”

“What makes you think they’d want to talk to your lowlife gang?” Youngjae countered, earning another well placed punch to his jaw by a furious looking Hoya.

“I really… Really dislike repeating myself.” Sungkyu continued, “Now, who’s in charge of B.A.P?” Sungkyu tilted his head in Daehyun’s direction. Hoya walked over, cracking his knuckles with a smile upon his face as he gripped the other’s brown hair and forced his head up before pulling back his fist.

“WAIT!” Youngjae pulled forward against the ropes, his eyes wide, “I… I’ll tell you! Just… Don’t hurt him.”

Hoya lowered his fist, looking at Sungkyu as the other nodded in allowance of Youngjae’s request. “What are their names?” Sungkyu prompted, watching as Youngjae sank forward in his chair, his head bowed in defeat.

“I… I don’t actually know their names… But, I know where they are.”

Daehyun’s eyes snapped to Youngjae’s form as the other kept his eyes trained on his lap. The sound of his blood rushing through his ears drown out the smallest of sounds as he continued to stare at the younger, trying to figure out the game he was playing.

Sungkyu smiled, “That will work to. Where can I find the leaders of B.A.P…”

“L… Last I heard…” Youngjae started, his stutter becoming more present, “T… They were….”

“Yes?”

“Sleeping with your mom.”

Daehyun couldn’t hold back the sudden burst of laughter that broke free from his mouth as Youngjae glanced up at him, a cheeky grin upon his own face.

Sungkyu’s chair hit the ground as he got up, anger glowing within his small eyes, “Shoot him, Woohyun, save the brunette, I’m done here.” He said to one of the members of the gang that was leaning up against the far wall.

“With pleasure.” Woohyun said with a smirk as he pushed himself up from the wall, the metal of his gun gleaming as he slowly raised it, despite Daehyun’s sudden panicking shouts of protest.

The echo of a single gunshot caused Daehyun to close his eyes quickly, not wanting to see the damage that would surely be sitting in front of him.

The curse of pain and clatter of metal upon the floor made Daehyun hesitant to open his eyes. It wasn’t until a deep, raspy and sweetly familiar voice rung out, that Daehyun’s head snapped back up.

“I would have thought better of Infinite… kidnapping two of our lowest members… Really, what kind of information were you hoping to gather?” Himchan asked, walking farther into the room as he pushed forward the thin boy he had within his grasp.

Sungkyu’s eyes immediately narrowed, “Let Sungjong go now…”

“Let my men go first.”

Sungkyu pinched the bridge of his nose, before waving his hand to Hoya.

“But—“

“Now, Hoya.” Sungkyu snapped.

Daehyun couldn’t help but flinch at the cold metal that pressed against his skin as Hoya cut the ropes free from around Daehyun’s wrist, before moving on to cut Youngjae free. The gasp of pain from the younger led Daehyun to believe that Hoya hadn’t just gotten the rope when wielding the knife. Daehyun rushed over, pulling Youngjae up and supporting him the best he could as he hurried back to where Himchan was.

“Alright, You have them back, let Sungjong go.” Sungkyu said slowly.

“Not just yet… You see… I count seven against three, one of the three being not quite present due to a few too many blows to his head… So… If you don’t mind…” Himchan began backing up slowly, dragging Songjong with him. As Woohyun raised his gun in his uninjured hand, Himchan made a soft tsking noise, “I’ll have already shot him by the time you even manage to get a good aim, so… Don’t even try.” He said. It didn’t take long, even with walking backwards, for them to reach the exit of Infinite’s head quarters. Himchan quickly kicked open the door, giving Sungjong a shove forward before grabbing Daehyun and Youngjae, dragging them outside and into the sunlight. The shouts of the other gang members could be heard as the door began to swing shut, but Himchan ignored them, shoving Daehyun and Youngjae into the open doors of the van that had pulled up before hopping in himself and shutting the door as the van had already began to move.

“Aish! I send you out for a simple grocery trip, and you guys end up running into another gang… What will I ever do with you two!” Himchan said loudly, checking over Daehyun for any injuries before moving on to Youngjae. His expression softened before he shook his head with a sigh, “You know, I really wanna hit you for what you did back there…”

“I don’t know… I liked the ‘your mom’ bit he slipped in.”

Himchan turned to the deep voice, glaring at Yongguk as he continued to drive along, “Well, yes, as snarky as that was, it almost got him killed…”

Youngjae hummed a little, his head lolling to the side as Yongguk took a rather sharp turn, “Hmm, figured… didn’t know much anyways… Couldn’t beat any information out of me…”

Himchan raised an eyebrow, “So you would have rather died then let them give Dae a good sock to his face?”

Youngjae shrugged softly, smiling just a little, “Sure… He’d have been able to think of a way out easier if he didn’t have a concussion.”

“But you would have died.” Daehyun said, watching Youngjae as the younger tried to focus his eyes.

“I would have been dead… wouldn’t have made much of a difference to me.”

Himchan made contact with Yongguk through the rearview mirror, smiling before turning back to Youngjae, “You did good today, kid… Next time though… Keep yourself safe too, okay… Otherwise… Bang might be upset that he never got to meet you…”

“The General just might cry…” Yongguk added, earning a little laugh from Daehyun before Himchan punched his arm lightly.

Himchan looked back at Youngjae, “Get some sleep, okay…” he said, brushing the younger’s bangs from his forehead, “We’ll keep you safe…”

“After all… You’re one of us… right?” Yongguk added, watching the smile that crossed Youngjae's lips as the younger slowly drifted off.

Chapter 61: First off, I'm really glad I read this story after it was completed, or it would've messed me up and hurt me way more because I wouldn't've known if there was a happy ending. Secondly, the fact that I KNEW there was going to be a happy ending and things were okay in the end but was still affected so much by the things that happened was crazy. Like, I knew things ended up well because I skimmed chapter 60 beforehand because I didn't want to end up reading such a long story just to be wrecked at the end because there wasn't a happy ending. But this story was just so greatly written, everything made sense, and at no point did I have the thought of anything being unnecessary. I felt what the characters were feeling, and every time good things were happening, I would just say to myself, "It's gonna hurt when the betrayal comes" (given that it was based off the One Shot MV).

I also like to think that at the marriage scene, it's just this weird conglomerate of gang members (like Nu'est and Infinite) and cops from Youngjae's old job that have set aside grudges for the happy day.
