Chapter 14

A Cracked Reflection

Later that day, Youngjae had convinced Zelo on holding off on painting his room blue right away, much to the younger’s disappointment. Zelo seemed to get over it quickly, stating there really wasn’t much times right now anyways. He still however, made Youngjae pinky promise to do it soon though.

Much to Youngjae’s relief and enjoyment, after pinky promising with Zelo to paint his room soon, the younger pulled Youngjae out of his bed and drug him off to the main living room, stating that video games with Jongup had become boring without Youngjae there to play with them.

So there Youngjae sat, wedged between Zelo and Jongup as they played mindless video games for what felt like hours. It was finally Jongup who paused the game, insisting on going and getting them something to drink. Youngjae made to stand up and to help Jongup get the drinks, but Zelo pulled him back down to the couch, choosing that moment to bug Youngjae on which color blue they should choose for his room. Jongup returned moments later, handing Youngjae his drink first before passing the other to Zelo before sitting down with his own.

“I really think you should do it a light blue… because I think it’d be pretty, not that it has to be pretty though, I mean… It’s supposed to be a tough guy’s room, I guess, so maybe a darker blue would be more suitable… but, then again, we’ll be the only ones to see your room, so if you want to paint it a light blue, we won’t judge you, I mean… Himchan has pink in his room, and we don’t judge him.” Zelo was saying, his speech coming out unnaturally fast to the point that Youngjae was positive even Zelo himself didn’t know what he was talking about.

Nodding his head to show the other he was still listening, despite not being able to fully understand the significance of the color of his room, Youngjae sipped on the drink that Jongup had given him. It wasn’t until he was nearly two thirds of the way through it that he began to feel the effects. Quickly he put down the glass, staring at it in confusion before turning his gaze to Jongup, who stared back at him with a sad, almost guilty smile.

“I’m sorry, Hyung.” He whispered.

Youngjae blinked hard, his mouth feeling dry all of a sudden as his vision blurred doubled.

“Don’t fight it, Jae hyung…” Zelo mumbled, his voice laced with guilt as he rubbed gentle circles on Youngjae’s back as the elder was clearly losing the battle.

Youngjae took one last look at Jongup, the confusion clear in his eyes as he silently asked the younger one just the simple question of ‘why’ before his eyes closed completely and he slumped back into the cushions of the couch.

The first thing that came to Youngjae’s mind was why in the world his bed was rocking gently back and forth, as though it were on the water. The second was how nice the thin fingers running through his hair gently felt. He could hear a jumble of voices nearby, each new and different and so foreign that Youngjae could start to feel himself panic.

The fingers running through his hair paused, and in that split second, Youngjae’s eyes snapped open and jerked up into seated position, glancing around quickly to take in his surroundings. He took note of the semi damp, salty air surrounding them, of course, the view of the water just stretching on for miles outside of the window sort of gave it away that they were on a boat. Youngjae turned quickly to stare back at the girl whose lap his head had been resting in not moments before. She offered him a smile, showing off her white, straight teeth, “Hello~” She said, winking playfully as Youngjae’s cheeks flushed a light pink.

“Yah! You were supposed to tell us when he woke up, not shamelessly try to flirt with him.”

“Oppa! He just woke up, I was about to come and get you…” The girl whined, standing up to smooth out her short dress as she glared at the male that was currently reclined against the door frame.

Despite Youngjae’s nervousness that was still present around the other, he couldn’t help but feel the immense relief as he turned his gaze to the deep voiced Yongguk. “Hyung? How did I get here…?” he asked, uncertainty in his voice. His mind felt hazy and he couldn’t quite remember what had happened, the last thing that remained clear to him was Jongup handing him the drink as Zelo went on about the color of his room. He never remembered getting onto a boat, and as he became a bit more aware, he defiantly didn’t remember changing into different clothes. He picked at the expensive fabric, a bit self conscious as he was nearly 100% sure he had never seen it in his life.

Yongguk rubbed the back of his neck, stepping out of the door way and twitching his head back as he looked to the girl, “Privacy please?”

The girl sighed, turning to look at Youngjae, “Come find me later, sweetie, okay?” She said, winking at him again as she made her way out.

Yongguk crossed the room, flopping back into the seat that she had occupied not too long ago as he made himself comfortable, “The General picked that outfit out for you…” he said, watching Youngjae continue to pick at the threading between his fingers.

“That doesn’t answer my question, hyung. How did I even get here?”

“About that… We’re sorry that we had to take such measures…”

“I’m sorry, Hyung”

“Don’t fight it, Jae Hyung.”

Youngjae stared at Yongguk, his eyes wide, “You guys drugged me!” he said quickly, sitting up straighter as the fuzzy memories became just a bit clearer.

“Well… Jongup did, if you want to be technical.”

Youngjae hit Yongguk’s arm lightly, “Well, I’m not being technical.” He said, pouting a bit.

Yongguk smiled, his gums showing as he pushed back at Youngjae, “Yah! Don’t hit your hyung!” he said, laughing a bit as Youngjae continued to pout.

“I’m serious, if you didn’t want me to know where we were heading out to, I could have just closed my eyes.”

Yongguk’s smile fell just a little as he sighed, “With what happened last time… The General thought that this would be the best option.”

Sitting up just a bit straighter, Youngjae watched Yongguk carefully, “You mean… he’s here right now?” He looked around quickly, a bit of nervousness settling within his stomach as he expected to see the mysterious ‘General’ at any moment, “Is Bang here, too – Why are you laughing at me?”

Yongguk waved Youngjae off, shaking his head as he caught his breath, “Nothing… You just look like a kid about to be sent to the principal’s office for the first time.”

“Well, I can’t help it!” Youngjae said, flopping back and crossing his arms as he looked away from Yongguk.

“Anyway… Youngjae… Which one are you more scared of: Bang or the General?” Yongguk asked innocently, smiling at Youngjae.

“Uhh… The General.”

“What?! Why?”

Youngjae jumped a bit in surprise as Yongguk raised his voice, “W… what? I… I mean, from what I’ve heard in passing these past two weeks, and then the rumors about B.A.P itself… They both kind of terrify me… but… ‘Bang’ at least sounds like a name… but… ‘the General’… he sounds like a guy that has a whole army under his command.”

Yongguk laughed a little, “Well, first off, Bang is a name, just to make that clear. Second, the General can barely command Zelo to keep his room clean, besides, B.A.P is far from an army…”

“Don’t tell me you already told him!”

Youngjae and Yongguk both looked up as Himchan came rushing into the room, pushing up his sunglasses to the top of his head. He flopped down onto the couch that was directly across from Youngjae and Yongguk, resting his arms along the back of it as he brought one leg up to cross over the other.

“Why would I do that… You probably would have murdered me and thrown me overboard…”

Himchan let out a small bark of laughter, “You’re probably right,” he said with a shrug before turning to look at Youngjae, “So, how do you like the clothes? No offence to your wardrobe… but I couldn’t find anything in it that actually seemed badass enough.”

“There’s nothing wrong with my style of clothes—wait.” Youngjae looked up quickly from where he had still been absentmindedly picking at the expensive shirt. “You…Nooo…” he glanced over to Yongguk before looking back to Himchan, “No… No way, you guys are just joking with me.”

“No joke, Youngjae.” Himchan said with a smirk, giving Youngjae a mock salute with two fingers, “But, you can just keep calling me Himchan, kay?”

Yongguk smiled, showing off his gums again, “The name is Bang Yongguk, but likewise, it doesn’t change much.”

Youngjae sunk back into the soft cushions, staring up at the low ceiling with his mouth hanging open just a bit as the boat gently rocked back and forth, his mind reeling as he pieced it all together. “It’s… genius.” He suddenly mumbled, sitting up straight. “It’s seriously… like, this has to be the smartest thing I have ever heard of doing. Every time an undercover cop or someone who was out to take you guys down… You hid in plain sight right beneath their nose. They were so worried about climbing ranks, they never saw what and who was right in front of them, watching their every move.” He shook his head, “What about the others, do they know? I mean… of course they know… but, everyone else, I mean?”

“That’s the thing, Youngjae.” Himchan said, sitting up and uncrossing his legs. He rested his elbows against his thighs, “You’ve met the whole gang.”

“No, I get that I’ve met them, but what about the other groups within the gang?”

“There aren’t any, Youngjae… it’s just us five…” Himchan couldn’t hide the smile as he continued to watch Youngjae, “Well… six of us… that is you know… if you still want to join?”

“And don’t worry… we won’t throw you overboard to sleep with the fishes if you say no…” Yongguk said jokingly, although part of Youngjae couldn’t help but think that the other was lying and that was exactly what they would do.

“Why would I want to say no…” Youngjae asked, noting the looks of relief, and what reminded Youngjae of happiness, pass over Himchan and Yongguk’s face. “I would be lying if I said that these past two weeks with you guys were anything but boring… I seriously don’t know what I did with my life before I met you guys…”

Himchan got up, going to sit next to Youngjae as he pulled the other against his side in a slight hug, “We aren’t sure either, Jae… but… it just feels like you belong with us. Zelo and Jongup have already grown attached to you…”

“Even Daehyun seems to have taken a liking to you, although that’s probably because he’s up so he can get more cheesecake. Either way…” Yongguk added, nudging Youngjae lightly, “Welcome to the family, kid…” He said, ruffling the younger’s as he beamed brightly up at Yongguk.

“Just know that this means you’ll have to get a tattoo now.” Himchan added nonchalantly

“That’s no problem – Wait, what?!”

Chapter 61: First off, I'm really glad I read this story after it was completed, or it would've messed me up and hurt me way more because I wouldn't've known if there was a happy ending. Secondly, the fact that I KNEW there was going to be a happy ending and things were okay in the end but was still affected so much by the things that happened was crazy. Like, I knew things ended up well because I skimmed chapter 60 beforehand because I didn't want to end up reading such a long story just to be wrecked at the end because there wasn't a happy ending. But this story was just so greatly written, everything made sense, and at no point did I have the thought of anything being unnecessary. I felt what the characters were feeling, and every time good things were happening, I would just say to myself, "It's gonna hurt when the betrayal comes" (given that it was based off the One Shot MV).

I also like to think that at the marriage scene, it's just this weird conglomerate of gang members (like Nu'est and Infinite) and cops from Youngjae's old job that have set aside grudges for the happy day.
