Soojung’s heart thumped fast as the two of them entered a rather large office at the 4th floor of the building. She could feel her whole body turning cold in anxiety. One certain body part remained warm though – her hand. Kevin was tightly holding onto it in hope that her worries will subside.

After several minutes of waiting inside, the door burst open – much to the two students’ surprise. A woman probably in her early 30’s entered the room gracefully. Her black hair flowed to her waist and her skin was fair. She has a curvy body and despite the obvious age, she’s beautiful. Definitely beautiful.

Who is she though?

“Omma,” Kevin blurted out instantly as he stood up to hug the newcomer.

Her eyes widening in surprise, Soojung automatically stood up and bowed. It was stupid of her not to realize that they were in her office so of course, she could be his mother. “Annyeong haseyo,” she greeted, catching the woman’s attention.

Mrs. Wu chuckled. “Aigoo,” she cooed as she pulled away from her son’s embrace and stepped closer to Soojung. “I feel so old when kids are bowing to me like that.”

She tapped the younger lady’s shoulder and guided her to stand straight. “You’re beautiful,” she suddenly complemented as soon as she got to see her face. Blushing in embarrassment, Soojung could only smile and mouth the words of gratitude.

That scene brought a sense of pride to Kevin. With one single stride, he had moved to her girlfriend’s side with his arm wrapped around his shoulders.

“Of course,” he boasted. “Will I settle for someone less?”

Mrs. Wu chortled at her son’s arrogance and kicked him in the shin. Soojung couldn’t help but chuckle. She’s really starting to like the older woman.

As Kevin doubled in pain in the corner, the mother asked the girl to sit back on the couch as she moved to her executive table in front of the two.

“I’m glad I got to meet you before I leave,” she stated as soon as she got comfortable in her seat. “I’m sorry for the short notice,” she smiled.

Soojung returned the smile. “It’s okay,” she replied. “It was a complete surprise though but I understand.”

As they go on with their conversation (their subject mostly about Kevin at school - Soojung’s POV, Kevin as a child and at home - Mrs. Wu’s POV, and a dash about Soojung’s family), the younger girl couldn’t help but stare at the older woman. At first, she couldn’t find any similarity with Kevin but as she stared longer, she realized that they actually look like each other. Her eyes were sharp too, but like Kevin’s, they turn warm when they smile. They have the same nose and lips too.

“So how did my son manage to make you say ‘yes’ to him?” Mrs. Wu suddenly asked, catching Soojung by surprise. She could even swear she saw her winking at her son.

For a few seconds, she was speechless. She wanted to speak right away but she knew she would just stutter and she didn’t want that. So after a few seconds of formulating her answer and a few deep sighs, she let out a smile.

“I really don’t know,” she honestly replied, taking the two other persons in the room by surprise. Kevin’s eyebrow shot up. But even before he could say something, Soojung continued. “We actually hate each other’s guts to the core of the earth but I clearly don’t know what happened that he ended up falling for me,” she snickered.

Kevin puffed a sigh. “So are you saying I’m the only one who feels that way?!” He asked, shocked.

The younger lady brought her hand up and smacked him in the head softly. “Stupid,” she muttered. “You’re the one who confessed first, right!? And besides, would I be here with you now if you’re the only one!?”

A smile spread across the guy’s lips as he chose not to say anything anymore. He just lifted his arms and put it behind his girlfriend’s shoulder and pulled her closer. He got another hit in the chest for being so showy in front of his mother but as if he could care less. His heart swells in joy hearing those words from Soojung anyway.

Mrs. Wu couldn’t help but smile at the two bickering souls in front of her. Being a mother who’s constantly away from her child, she felt immensely grateful that Kevin would have someone by his side now. Her son has always been independent but she was always worried that he’s having a hard time on his own too. That’s why she felt incredibly relieved that there’s finally someone to be with him through everything.

The older woman feigned a cough to catch the couple’s attention. “Wu Fan, can you leave first?”

Instantly, the two fell silent. Kevin won’t stand up to leave, afraid that Soojung would feel uncomfortable being alone with her mom. “But mom,” he tried to reason but his girlfriend was quick enough to pick up what’s happening.

“I’ll be fine,” she encouraged. “Wait for me outside.”

Given no chance to refuse, Kevin stood up and headed for the door. But before he could leave, he looked back at his mother and jokingly warned. “Mom, be easy on her, okay!?”

Lovely sound of chuckles rang through the room as the two women most precious to his heart laughed at his immaturity. “Of course, I will be,” Mrs. Wu assured.
