At first you were reluctant, always shying away from me and my awkward teenage advances. You were just a kid then, what did you know about love? Of course, you could have said the same thing to me, what did I know of love at the age of 18?

But if this fluttering in my chest and the shortness of my breath isn't love, then I don't know what love is is.

If this heady rush that runs through me whenever you even look at me isn't love, if this tingling in my fingers as I your face gently isn't love, if this irrational desire to hide you and protect you from all of the heartbreakers of the world isn't love, then I really don't know what love is.

And then the years flew by in a rush of albums, talk shows, and fanservice as I watched you grow up in front of my eyes.

You became a man and shed the skin of the young, guileless maknae, and with it came maturity and wisdom. You started to see things in a different way, like the way your eyes were the first I'd seek out whenever I walked in the room.

You noticed when it was your ty jokes I laughed at, when you were suddenly allowed to get away with anything, when I offered you another shot instead of pulling a Bae and ing a Coke into your hands (much to Bae's consternation, but that's another story). You began to wait for me to come sneaking into your room in the dead of night and you no longer protested when I wrapped my skinny arms around your waist and snuggled closer.

That's when I finally became your Ji, although you've been my Ri since the very beginning.

That's when you started asking for me in your sleep instead of the other way around.

And that's also when you began falling for me as I had for you all those years ago.

But don't worry, my Ri, your Ji will be there to catch you with open arms and a kiss for good luck.
