In The Background

Description

An invisible red thread connects those who are destined to meet,
regardless of time, place, or circumstance.
The thread may stretch or tangle,
but it will never break.1

Jiyong and Seunghyun have been together their whole lives - every single one of them - but they have no idea. The clues, however, are always there, in the pieces of themselves that live on without them. Snapshots of their lives tell the story of two souls that are brought together time and time again - it's just hidden in the background.

Foreword

Hello everyone! It's been a while since I've written anything GRi. Well, here's a oneshot for those of you who have been missing the lovely Jiyong/Seungri couple. It's longer than my usual oneshots, but nothing too obscene. No, as always, I'm not returning to the GRi scene. That doesn't mean I can't drop by every once in a while, does it?

I actually wrote this fic as part of the Nyongtory Festival hosted by HanHyeRim. However, seeing as all of the accounts have been inactive for quite some time, I doubt that the Festival is still on. There was less than 10 participants, regardless. Of course, usually I would wait until the fic exchange is actually declared cancelled, but I've also recently lost access to the email I used to receive updates on the exchange. As I am completely unable to communicate with anybody, I've decided to take matters into my own hands.

The prompt, which I can't actually access, was along the lines of: "Have you ever taken a picture and noticed other people in the background of your picture? Have you ever wondered what they might be doing at that time? What about all all the photos you must be in, ones that you don't even know exist. Perhaps you were meant to be in the background. What if you've been sharing significant moments in time with someone else, and you don't even know?"

While I didn't take a literal approach to the prompt, I hope that those who read the fic can still recognize the elements that I chose to incorporate into the fic. They're subtle, but they're there. I focused more on the general idea and concept of the prompt; rather than actual photographs, instead I used other things that could represent a photograph - capturing a moment in time. Furthermore, I also incorporated the Red String of Fate into the fic. Yes, a little cliche, but hopefully the fic is still bearable regardless. Keep an eye out for certain things that tie all the lives together...

To the person I wrote this for: I am so sorry that I don't remember who you are. If you do find this, I hope you can forgive me for posting it this way. All the information I had pertaining to you was in the email that I unfortunately cannot access right now. I hope you enjoy the fic, even though I have taken a very liberal approach to the prompt. I tried my best to weave elements of the prompt into the fic, but alas, the fic largely took on a life of its own. Also, I know that the minimum was 1000 words, but I just couldn't help myself. I've written well over 1000 words. Please, if you do end up finding this fic, please comment or personal message me!

To everyone else: I hope you enjoy this fic! It's been so long since I've written GRi; I hope I haven't lost my touch. Of course I still remember all of my old readers, I hope you enjoy this little blast from the past.

Thank you: to April (senpai!), for basically being there while I ed and moaned and whined about the struggles of finishing this fic. You know as well as I do how hard this was. Damn. Thank you for encouraging me, for giving me good advice and helping me with ideas, and for supporting me. Obviously thank you for the beta - my work would be crap without it.

And thank you to HanHyeRim for organizing the Nyongtory Festival, however it turned out, as well as the lovely person whose prompt I used for this fic!

Denture oppa thanks you for your time:

Chapter 1: OMG this is cool.
It kinda reminds me of Taiwanese drama turn right turn left, the couple didn't realize they were close yet so far. They were always in the same photo accidentally.
Btw it broke my heart when little Seunghyun decided to save Jiyong n his wife, sobs sobs.
You portrayed their encounter beautifully, like how they would meet in life after life, wow, at least they were together at the end.

Thank you, I notice your name account.
You are like, the holy mother of GRI fan fic author.
I'm confident that I've read all your stories be it here or livejournal.
THANK YOU for being awesome.
