After thinking through of today’s events while you were on the bus, you grew completely irked by the whole thing. First you broke your arm, then your Boss decides to act up and take out the pay from your cheque because of HIS suggestion to you over, then your conversation with Hoshi was cut short because Kai came from nowhere and tried to act as if he was saving a damsel in distress. What the heck was going on? Why couldn’t the world just give you a break from all this unnecessary drama so that you could breathe?

You were staring out the window, a frown appearing over your brows while you contemplated about the days event. When the bus came to it’s next stop, you had been so busily staring outside that you hadn’t realize that Mingyu was standing out there ready to board on. Although you hadn’t noticed him, he had definitely noticed you. With a smile on his face, he couldn’t help but let it broaden when he saw you pout to yourself. What could you possibly be thinking to make your face twist up like that? It was incredibly cute and hard not to make him fall all the more for you.

However, the smile that was on his face was cut short when he noticed that there was a strange white thing on your arm. It didn’t take long for the lightbulb to switch on for him to know what it was. In an instant, he pushed the people in front of him out of his way and got on the bus first. He ignored the angry complaints of his insolent manner behind him, as he marched towards you with concern etched all over his face.

You had been so absorbed in your angry bubble that you didn’t even realize that Mingyu had sat himself down next to you.

It wasn’t until he shouted out, “Noona! What the hell is this!” did it break you from your reverie. Your eyes widened at the loudness of his voice, suddenly sensing more than a dozen pair of eyes looking your way. You turned to look beside you with wide, surprised eyes, “Where the heck did you come from?”

Seeing that he had his uniform and backpack on, you guessed that he must have come from school. Although school had ended hours ago, Mingyu was probably roaming around doing things that concerned his study of the planet Earth which could explain why he was out so late. “I came from out there… but now is not the time for me, what the heck is that on your arm?”

You almost forgot that you still had the cast on you. With a sheepish smile, you explained to him the situation of what had happened at work today. From the idiotic suggestion that your boss planted in your brain up until the hospital where the doctor had to pop the bone back into your arm, which made Mingyu cringe in pain after hearing it. He didn’t know what to do, all he could think of was hold your hand during that moment. “Does it hurt right now? Do you need me to help you hold your purse? Where is Rijin anyway, if she had brought you to the hospital, shouldn’t she have taken you home?” He was so up in the air with his worry that it made you stifle a laugh.

This was the first time seeing him become so worried over you that you had laughed, not because it was funny, but because it warmed your heart.

“Actually, she was sent home… by Kai.”

Mingyu stopped talking, his eyes studying your expression at the mention of Kai. “Kai?”

“Yeah…” you glanced around the bus, but seeing that everyone was either listening to music or asleep, you whispered, “Apparently he has been keeping tabs on me. Not in a bad, creepy way… he just told the hospital if anything were to ever happen to me, to notify him first.”

Upon hearing that, Mingyu found himself suddenly frowning. He pursed his lips, not wanting to say anything that might offend Hari. At the end of the day, this guy was still her first love and anything Mingyu said against him would definitely hurt her. But still, he couldn’t help but feel ridiculously angry at Kai. This was the guy who was snooping behind your back, selling drugs and doing illicit deals with people, and this same guy, was also the one who broke your heart time and time again. And yet, here he was trying to be a good guy albeit all the he put you through. And despite it all, you still stood by waiting for him as if hoping that one day, his heart would change and come to realize that it had been you all along.

“And then what?” asked Mingyu, hoping to god that you didn’t forgive him for his mistake.

“I walked away,” you huffed out, crossing your arms in a somewhat proud manner.

Surprised, Mingyu’s frown slowly turned into a smile. He had never expected you to ever to do such a thing to Kai. “Really? You walked away from him?”

You nodded your head. “Of course! I told him that when I was ready, that I would contact him. There’s no way I can forgive him just yet. I want to collect my feelings and then get back to him.”

“Wow,” Mingyu beamed widely, impressed with what he had heard. If only he was there to bask in the glory of Kai’s rejection, unfortunately, Kai did not know that he existed and will probably know. Slowly, Mingyu wrapped a careful around your shoulder. “I think you deserve a reward for finally standing up to that guy.”

You rolled your eyes, as if rejecting Kai’s offer to become friends again was even worthy of a prize. Instead of shrugging Mingyu’s arm off your shoulders, you kept it there because it felt natural to have him hold you. Looking up at him, you couldn’t but reach out and pinch Mingyu’s cheeks and fixing a strand of blue hair that had been in his eyes. “Thanks noona.”

“You’re welcome…” You let out a content sigh. All the agitation that you had earlier was gone now that you were sitting here with Mingyu. Despite the bus getting more and more crowded, it felt like it was just the two of you on it. The rest of the time, Mingyu was filling you about his day. It didn’t seem like he was a fan of the high school, nor the people in it.

But then again, the same could be said about you. You hated Pledis more than anything, with all the humiliation, fights and accusations that were thrown your way back then, it just made your blood boil every time you thought back to those hurtful times. Even with the boys by your side, especially, Kris, Chanyeol, Kai and Wongeun, it still wasn’t enough to stop people from ridiculing you.

You snapped out of your thoughts when Mingyu told you that he had almost gotten in a fight. You almost screamed out loud in outrage while he explained the situation. It was so stupid, all over a girl. But that was how high school worked. High school was a time of discovery, and relationships and titles were a given to those kind of discovery. It never made sense to you why people were so worked up on small things during high school, but that’s just how the rules worked back then.

“I’m really glad you didn’t get yourself hurt,” you said, letting out a breath of relief. Mingyu may be only 17, but he was as wise as Kris and that says something about the boy. If you were caught in Mingyu’s position, you highly doubted that you would have handled the situation as well as he did. Deep down, you knew that if someone were to threaten you the way that Hongbin kid did to Mingyu, the anger would have all went to your head and you would have done the first thing your instinct told you to do.

“Do I look like an idiot? If I ever murdered one Earthling, my momma would have sent me back up to where I belong and imprison for the rest of my life. I wouldn’t even get to say goodbye to you, Vernon, S.Coupe or Hoshi…” at the mention of his friends name, Mingyu began to frown again.

Your eyes lit up once you heard the name Hoshi. You had completely forgotten to tell Mingyu that you had seen his friend!

Just as you were about to open your mouth and inform Mingyu about today’s event, it was time to get off your stop. Mingyu pressed the button, and gently pulled you upwards. “Carefully now noona.” He held you firmly, making you don’t trip off the steps until your two feet were both planted on the dusty gravel.

“Honestly, I am starting to think my purpose in life was to become your bodyguard. It’s like I came down here just to meet you and make sure you don’t hurt yourself a day in your life,” teased Mingyu.
