The Only Thing Left

The Monster That Steals Her Heart

Ever since the day you tried to commit a suicide, Hyo Won won’t leave your side even for a second.

Because of this, you were starting to feel offended. “Hyo Won-ah, can’t you just let me go outside for a few minutes?” You begged.

She looked at you and firmly replied, “No.” “Why won’t you?” You frowned.

“Just because…you might do something dangerous.” She simply shrugged.

You hung your head low in dismay as you entered your room and sat down on your bed.

A few seconds later, you flopped on the bed and noticed the razor blade that was sitting on the end table. A cold shiver ran down to your spine. *Death is really hard to achieve.*

You absent-mindedly stared at the ceiling until a light knock came outside of the room. “Come in.” You ordered.

Hyo Won came in holding a tray where there was a bowl of hot porridge that was placed neatly on the tray. She beamed and went closer.

You watched her setting down the food and handing it to you. You blankly stared at it as Hyo Won urged you to take it.

You shook your head, indicating that you didn’t want to eat it. She raised a brow, “Why won’t you eat it?”

“I don’t have any appetite to eat it.” You answered. “But you should at least—”

“Just leave it there.” You instructed. All she could do was to sigh and settle the porridge down as she stood up and left.

“It feels empty here without her parents. No wonder she attempted to commit suicide.” Hyo Won mumbled to herself while looking at the dark and gloomy living room.

----------------------------------------------------

You were reading a novel entitled “Our Forbidden Love”.

It was about a girl that falls in love with a vampire. Unfortunately, his father hates humans which he calls them as foolish humans.

You didn’t get it though but you continued on reading it since it was better than doing nothing.

“~~~~~, did you eat the porridge?” Hyo Won poked in her head. Her eyes were glistened with hope but immediately disappeared when you bluntly replied, “No, I didn’t.”

She sighed and came to sit on the edge of the bed. You resumed your reading. She looked at you then shifted her gaze to the book you were reading.

“Huh? ‘Our Forbidden Love’? What kind of crap is that?” She furrowed her eyebrows in bewilderment.

You slightly shrugged, “I just read it to kill some times.” “Oh.” She nodded.

A long silence accompanied the two of you until Hyo Won broke the silence by asking you questions, “You won’t do it anymore, right?”

You looked up and closed the book, “Do what…?” “You know…the suicide thing.” She rubbed the back of her neck.

“Oh.” You looked down. “You won’t do it, right?” She peered at you warily. After a long pause, you nodded, “I won’t.”

*Because the only thing that’s left is you other than my parent that is no longer here with me. So, I should try my best by living my life for you.* You looked at your only best friend.

She smiled joyfully as she pulled you into a breath-taking hug, “Thanks, BFF!”

Unknowingly, a small smile crept up upon your lips. It has been a long time since you’ve smiled like that.

Ever since your parent left you, the only thing you did was sobbing, crying, and bawling. You didn’t even bother to smile anymore since then.

Soon, she pulled out from the embrace and gripped onto your shoulders. She looked at you, “Remember. Don’t ever leave me again, ~~~~~. Or else I will die if you do.”

You just nodded. She smiled in relief, “Great. Now, let’s go watch something entertaining!” You froze when she pulled you up.

She worriedly glanced at you, “Are you alright, ~~~~~?” You nodded and grabbed two pillows that were lying on your bed.

Hyo Won looked at you, dumbfounded as you showed her the pillows. “It’s cold. I need something warm to snuggle with.” You stated.

After a while, she snapped out and took a cozy blanket, “And we need this too.”

The two of you went to the living room as Hyo Won muttered, “It’s getting colder by the time.”

You nodded. *After all, winter is approaching.*
