If Things Were Different

220

Yoochun entered the conference room where the entire director's board were going to be for the next three hours. Yoochun smiled and bowed down at the directors who had come for the meeting before him. He walked to his place and sat down. Junsu came two minutes later from the same door. Yoochun's smile remained but it wasn't sincere anymore. It was just there, plastered and diplomatic without any heart in it. Junsu tried to make eye contact but Yoochun avoided it. Junsu bit down his lips, held it inside so that it wouldn't show that much to Yoochun.

The cold war had started since they came back from the vacation. Yoochun had went back home with only Kahi by his side. He didn't even send Junsu home, and that was saying something. Junsu didn't ask about whether his job status was still intact or not. He just came to work like usual, and when he showed up Yoochun didn't say anything about firing him, so he did his work like usual. He followed Yoochun around, telling him his schedules and cleaning up after him. Every time he was close to Yoochun, the director didn't talk to him casually. His tone was serious, it felt like it wasn't his at all. Junsu didn't ask; Yoochun didn't complain.

That day, after the plane had landed and they were on the ground again, Yoochun dragged Kahi and just left Junsu there which was very different from what he always did. Junsu ended up going home with Changmin reluctantly. Junsu had a problem of not being there with Yoochun, but he couldn't do anything. He couldn't have a say because he knew what he did was wrong. Changmin insisted Junsu to leave Yoochun to work with him but Junsu couldn't do it.

Junsu put a pen, and Yoochun wanted to grab it and accidentally their hands touched. Junsu looked up to see Yoochun's reaction but Yoochun hid his face. Junsu was disappointed but tried to not show it too much. He put the pen right on Yoochun's papers and then walked to the side of the room.

The meeting started not ten minutes after. All those time, Junsu had been loyally serving to Yoochun's demand. He took notes and changes, informed Yoochun of things that needed to be taken care of, and planned schedules with other secretaries. Junsu was known to be the closest to his boss amongst the others but lately they hadn't seen the closeness. They seemed like a couple in a fight; mouth pouting and avoiding eyes of each other.

Yoochun led the meeting, even though his mind wasn't at ease. He could feel Junsu's eyes were on him like he was waiting to attack him. Occasionally his eyes darted at Junsu and found his secretary was watching him, and never before he felt this uncomfortable. If it wasn't for Junsu's work efficiency, he would ask Junsu to go out. But he couldn't do it.

When the meeting ended, Junsu once again updated him about other directors. Yoochun didn't even need to take any notes down because Junsu did it for him. All Yoochun had to do was to plan what he's going to do afterwards. Yoochun stood up and went to his office. Junsu followed behind silently, not reciting anything from his notebook. When Yoochun arrived at the office, he noticed Junsu didn't follow him into the office. Yoochun sat down on his chair and started to do his work. But his mind was still bugged. Maybe it was because Junsu was not here?

Yoochun lifted his head, and he went to the door. He opened the door just wide enough for him to peek if Junsu was outside, at his table.

He wasn't there.

Yoochun stepped outside and confirmed it. He knitted his brows. He walked to the corridor where he came from just minutes before and didn't see anybody.

How could someone just disappear like that?

And like a cue, he could hear someone talking at a corner in the corridor. Yoochun crept towards it because he knew it was Junsu.

Junsu's POV

I was following Yoochun to his office when my phone vibrated in my pocket. I fished it out and put it near my ear before I scrambled away hurriedly to avoid Yoochun's attention to me. I had had enough of his attention while we were in the meeting room. Didn't he know that people knew his eyes always check on me? I felt embarrassed because of it but he still didn't know it, and because of that too I pitied him. I wish I could tell him like I used to, but the circumstances between us halted me to be as close as before.

When we got back, Changmin sent me home even though I told him I could get by on my own. Changmin refused, he said Yoochun was an for making me do things that I didn't want to and that he left me to fend for myself after he made me followed him to the family dinner. It's not like I'm a kid, I can take care of myself. I was the one who did everything for Yoochun, of course I could do everything for myself too.

But I don't know what happened when I saw Yoochun held Kahi's hand and just leave without even turning his head to look at me. I was dumbfounded and I couldn't do anything. I just looked at him, and felt this longing in my heart. I couldn't move and it was Changmin who held my hand to leave the airport. I didn't know what I would do if he wasn't there. Maybe I would still be there, in the airport, pitying myself because Yoochun hated me for what I'd done.

I picked up the phone after I made sure no one followed me. After all, the caller was Changmin, I couldn't risk getting caught talking with him on the phone.

"Changmin?"

"Junsu-yah..."

"You shouldn't call me when I'm working. It's too dangerous."

"I don't care. If you're fired, I can always claim you to come work with me. I will always accept you."

"Changmin, I can't do that," I shook my head even though he could never see it. I heaved a deep sigh and put my hand on my forehead. "I can't leave here."

"Why? Does it have to do with him?"

"Changmin-ah..." I threw my gaze out the window. Changmin had always been protective of me regardless of what I do. "I'm fine. Yoochun can't do anything without me. Please understand. I have been with him for years and it would be hard for me to start again there,"

"Why don't you tell me the real reasons why you can't leave?" I closed my eyes and leaned on the wall.

"I just couldn't, Changmin. I love the job, that's one of the reasons. It's my life too. You wouldn't understand..."

"What part of things that you had never told me that I didn't understand?" Changmin was furious on the other line. "I came to the dinner of my rival's company that I despised so much because I wanted to see you!"

"Changmin-ah..."

"He coerced you to staying, right? He even used Yunho to make you stay, right?"

"Changmin-ah, he didn't even know who Yunho was. I prevented him from knowing Yunho," I inhaled a deep breathe. "I didn't want to complicate things if he knows Yunho."

"But you let me know him. Doesn't it mean that I'm someone who is more special to you than him? Junsu-yah, I can take care of you if you work with me..."

"Changmin, I can't. It's just...things are..." I didn't know how to retaliate anymore. He knew what happened between me and Yoochun. He was furious when he knew I would never leave Yoochun.

"Junsu, if he does anything to you, I swear I'll rip him..."

"He won't do anything. Changmin-ah, I can't quit. I only can go after he fired me,"

"After he fired you?" I said yes. Well, that was the oath that I made with Park Shin Geun. I can only leave the company when I was fired. I can't quit.

But up until now Yoochun didn't even think about firing me. He just kept his mouth closed about that and I did my work like I usually do.

I turned around. Someone was standing behind this wall that I was leaning in. I elongated my neck, covered the lower half of the phone and moved a bit.

I saw Yoochun, his eyes were so big that I could see myself in them.

"Yoochun!" I pressed the red button on the phone immediately. "Are you eavesdropping?" he looked flustered.

"Why are you talking to him?"

"You heard me, you know." I huffed and with one swift moment I put the phone back in my pocket. I bowed down my head, something I rarely done for him before I swung my legs to leave him. He grabbed my wrist stopping me.

"Are those words true?" I turned around and stared at him. "About you're not going to leave this company until I fired you, about someone named Yunho?" I could feel the lump in my throat as he spoke the name out. Yunho. I didn't know why but it hurts me when he said his name out loud like that.

I pulled my hand back, and bowed down again. He looked dissatisfied.

"Junsu! I'm asking you!" he was mad too. Lately, everyone was angry with me. Only Yunho wasn't. But he made me even worse when he told me he didn't feel anything about me anymore.

"Don't say that name out loud." I said through gritted teeth. He looked surprised. I pulled my wrist back and lowered my head. I couldn't let Yoochun see the hurt in my face. I knew it was shown quite clearly. "I'm going to do my work." I scrambled away, I have to go away quickly. I could feel his eyes pierced through me as I walked away from him.

***

Yoochun entered his room back and didn't bother to continue their argument when he saw Junsu at his desk when he passed by the secretary's office. Junsu didn't even look up from his work. Yoochun grumbled.

He hated this. Their conversation was non-existent ever since that day. Yoochun clenched his knuckles. It was all Changmin's fault.

He pulled out his phone and called Yoohwan, his dongsaeng.

"Hmm?" Yoohwan was a college student. He was in art school, and he planned to become an actor when he graduated.

"Yoohwan, can you help me?"

"What is it?"

"Do you know any private detective?"

"What for?"

"Please find someone for me. I need help from a private detective,"

"Okay." Yoohwan agreed without asking more.

"Please don't tell anyone about me hiring a private detective."

"Okay. Do you want him urgently? I have to ask for someone to help me, though."

"I'll give him three days to meet him. The faster the bigger the pay,"

***

Yoochun walked out of the room, ready to meet a client. Junsu was already waiting for him at the door, his face was still stoic, expressionless. Yoochun could feel himself biting the inside of his lips to prevent from talking to Junsu. He eyed Junsu who was walking beside him, eyes fixed on the notebook he was holding. Yoochun noticed his breath was heavier than usual when he was stopping himself from bombarding Junsu questions that he knew he would never get the answers. Yoochun balled his fists tightly. There were many things unsaid that they wrapped them in an invisible torture bubble of not talking and teasing each other.

But even if Junsu wouldn't tell me anything, I would rather find out about it myself.

Right then, Junsu tilted his head abruptly. He looked at Yoochun, his eyes were narrowed at his boss. Yoochun frowned when he saw Junsu like this.

"What?" Yoochun couldn't help but sounded bitter as hell. Junsu watched him for a while.

"Nothing,"

"You want to say something?" Junsu shook his head. Both of them fell into silence again. When they arrived at the car, Yoochun climbed in first and followed by Junsu in the front seat.

A message came in Yoochun's phone. It was from Yoohwan.

'I found a private detective that I thought would fulfill whatever you want to do,'

Okay, that will do. Yoochun typed back. Yoohwan then texted him the details of their first meeting. He smiled, knowing that he would know something really, really soon.

***

The meeting was held at Yoohwan's college. Yoochun was free that day and went to the venue as soon as his day job ended. He even sent Junsu home before he went home himself.

The detective's name was Kim Heechul. He had a handsome face, a fox-like eyes and he seemed flirty when he smiled at him. Even though Yoohwan told him he was very capable in his job, Yoochun couldn't help but thinking that his face could distract the people around him. Yoochun shook his hand with him. The smile was still on the detective's face so it really garnered his attention.

"What's so urgent?" Heechul asked, straight to the point. He didn't even bother to introduce himself.

"I want you to find things about someone."

"Tell me the name and I'll tell you, with a fee of course,"

"I'll pay you how much you want but all the information have to be precise, and I don't want you to meet him. I don't want anyone to know you're doing this,"

"That's what a private detective does," Heechul smirked at Yoochun and somehow Yoochun had his doubts. "Don't worry. Your secret's safe with me." Yoochun nodded. He pulled out a small envelope from his pocket and put it on the table before he pushed it to Heechul. Heechul smiled wider.

"Who is he?"

"Yunho." Heechul lifted an eyebrow.

"Only Yunho?" Yoochun nodded. "Do you have any pictures?"

"No," Heechul grinned, and his eyes lingered at the envelope on the table.

"Such a task," Heechul put a hand on the envelope. "Why do you want to know about him? You don't know the name, you don't have the picture. Don't you know there are a lot of people with that name?" Yoochun scoffed. He started to let the doubts about Heechul grew inside him. "But, I can tell who he was. He's related to your secretary?"

Yoochun almost choked. Heechul rolled his eyes.

"You don't think I didn't do my research when I come to see you?" Yoochun's eyes widened. "Don't worry. I knew how to do my work. Apart from your family, the ones that you're close to were only a handful. You didn't count the people from your school or college as your close friends, and you were only surrounded by a few of people. Your company was very strict in letting you getting close to anyone because of your position. The one that's closest to you was your secretary, and lately there's rumours about both of you are getting into a cold war. Your family didn't have any crisis and your relationship with your fiancée didn't show any signs of instability, only your relationship with your secretary was a bit shaken and you had never had any problems with him before. And now you're asking me who was a private detective through your brother and not your secretary, which was saying something,"

Yoochun was stunned.

Okay, maybe he judged too early.

Heechul took the envelope and put it in his jacket's pocket.

"Do you want the information about your secretary too?" Heechul asked. Yoochun shook his head.

"I only want to know about that guy. I can find out about Junsu myself." the truth was he was terrified if he knew something he shouldn't. But his curiousity about Yunho was killing him, and he couldn't contain it anymore.

"Okay, suit yourself," Heechul shrugged. He stood up, and shook his hand with Yoochun who was still amazed at Heechul's reasoning ability. "I'll use the money wisely,"

Yoochun smiled when Heechul was out the door.

***

Junsu went inside the restaurant. He didn't tell Yunho he was coming. For him, it was better this way.

The restaurant already closed half way. Junsu smiled at the worker, he knew who Junsu was. Junsu walked to the kitchen where he knew Yunho was there.

He stood there, across the counter and saw his boyfriend. Yunho was standing behind Jaejoong, the chef in his restaurant. His arms were around Jaejoong's waist and his chin was on Jaejoong's shoulder. Junsu's heart was ripped violently. Both of them were talking in a very low voice, and it looked like Yunho really enjoyed Jaejoong's company.

Junsu couldn't move. Wasn't it bad enough that Yunho told him he wanted to break up, and then comes flocking around here? Wasn't it cruel to just say he wanted space and then just leave? And then comes back again?

Jaejoong laughed when Yunho said something. He turned around to face the other man. That was when he spotted Junsu.

"Junsu!" Jaejoong was flustered and Yunho jumped. Junsu held on his breathe, his heart was breaking apart silently. He had been crying and crying since Yunho said he wanted space that night, the night where Yoochun came to see him at home. He didn't tell anything to Yoochun, though because their relationship was complicated. They were in a fight but Yunho could persuade him to love him again. After all, he's a member of 220. His ability was to persuade people, and again he fell under his spell.

Junsu gritted his teeth. He turned around, this time he was so paralysed by fury he couldn't move. But he couldn't say anything because somehow he knew this had happened when he's not looking.

"Junsu!" Yunho called out but Junsu didn't want to go to him. "Junsu, wait,"

He wanted to rush to the exit without meeting anyone's eyes. Junsu couldn't stay.

He gasped when he felt Yunho's arms around his waist. Yunho leant down and tugged a strand of hair behind his right ear.

"Stay," he whispered. Junsu wanted to push him, but he was helpless.

"But you're the one who wanted space," Junsu closed his eyes, desperately wanted to shut Yunho out. Their current status of relationship was unknown. He still loved Yunho, that's for sure but how about Yunho? "You're the one...that said I'm too..." he couldn't finish his sentence when Yunho buried his face in his shoulder. "Stop it."

"I can't."

"You cheated on me." Junsu wanted to punch him so desperately, but he could sense Yunho's persuasion ability started to take effect. He felt dizzy. "Don't give me more heart ache, please..." Junsu couldn't brush off the scene that he just saw. "Jaejoong..."

"I love you, Junsu."

"But what about him?" Junsu was close to tears. It was always like this with Yunho. "What do you want from me? I know you didn't love me anymore...I can hear it,"

"What did you hear? Are you sure you didn't hear your own heart talking? Are you sure..."

"I'm sure!" Junsu turned and shoved Yunho before he could do anything to persuade him anymore. "Don't!" he put a hand between him and Yunho. "Don't use your power against me!"

"What...?" Yunho smirked. He flung both his hands up. "I'm not!"

"No!" Junsu put both hands on his ears. He just couldn't let Yunho do this to him anymore. "You can't keep me by your side when obviously you're..." Junsu darted his eyes on Jaejoong who was watching them fight at the side. Jaejoong looked frightened. Junsu could see his hands glowed, there were sparks of fire from the tip of his slender fingers. Junsu bit his lips.

Jaejoong met his eyes, and immediately pulled his gaze away. Junsu felt warm liquid rolled down his cheeks.

How could you do this to your old friend? Junsu wanted to scream out loud.

"Junsu..."

"Don't talk to me anymore!" Junsu pushed Yunho once more when he approached.

"Oh, so now you're getting worked up because I've been talking with my co-worker, my friend! And what about you and your boss?"

Junsu was flabbergasted.

"You're always by his side, always listen to him, always see what he's up to. More than you had paid attention to me!" Yunho glared at Junsu. "And suddenly you come here and tell me I'm cheating on you?"

"I am a secretary! That's what I do! And no, you were the one who said you wanted space! Don’t you ever forget who starts it first!"

"In my defense…!"

"Please stop, you two!" Jaejoong barged in. He went to Yunho, pulled his hand and away from Junsu. Junsu was again stunned. "Stop fighting, Junsu. Please. It's all a misunderstanding,"

"A misunderstanding?" Junsu shouted. "You don't know how crazy I'm going to be if I continue working with that workaholic!" Junsu kicked the trash, and screamed. "Do you think I do all that because I'm only a secretary? I'm in charge of you guys! I am the one who's keeping the secret from everyone and you..." Junsu hit Yunho's chest. "...said I paid attention to him more? It was all because of you guys, and you wanted to accuse me back?"

"Junsu..."

"I hate you, Yunho!" Junsu screamed. "You don't know what I've been through!"

Junsu stormed out the door, leaving Yunho and Jaejoong behind.

"Interesting," Heechul said to himself when he saw Junsu ran towards his car and left without further ado. He was munching on his liquorice when he came to check on the restaurant, and thank goodness he heard everything.

He smiled to himself as he leaned on the wall.

A/N introducing Heechul! yeay! in this story, he will only be an ordinary guy but with a very cunning attitude hehe~
