Flashback

The radiating heat was almost at barrier when the shady, tall tree stood by me as I glanced the landscape and waited for my father to arrive. It was my 8th birthday, and pretty much a perfect party was this feeling for me. Freedom with the peak of nature playing its part. The book in front of me had its bindery in half my eyes roamed line to line of the inscriptions of the book, making me smile or giggle from time to time. All this was interrupted as a pink delicacy of a flower fell on the page. My eyes broadened in curiosity as I picked it up and examined its features. The thing that was most distinct was the fact that it was heart shaped.

“Wow.” I thought to myself.

I continue to admire its pink ombre colour and its beauty until a loud shriek echoed throughout the park. I walked toward the sound source, putting the flower into my pocket ever so gently. It lead me to see a young boy, about my age, crying next to a damaged bike next to him. He must have fallen off. My first instinct came to mind.

“A…are you okay? What happened?” I asked. At this age, I thought I was capable to take responsibility in any situation, starting with this occurrence.

He didn’t answer. Instead, he was led off with another cry.

“Dad! Dad!”

This brought me to look and observe the park for a dad like figure. No one in sight. Is he hallucinating?

“Don’t look at me like that! I’m not crazy… He’s here.” He said in between distinct sniffles.

“It’s… It’s okay. I… I believe you.”

“You do?”

“Of course.”

A slight smile curved, protruding his cheeks a bit as he swiftly wiped his tears with his sleeve. I noticed the scrapes and red tone to it on his knee.

“Does it hurt?”

“Yeah. Not that much anymore though… nothing ever hurts anymore.”

He mumbled lightly to the last few words he said. Unfortunately, I didn’t quite catch it.

“P…Pardon?”

“It’s fine.”

He continued to avoid my gaze, as I intentionally wanted to start another conversation.

“Hey, do you want to see what I found today?”

This caught his attention, as his anticipation brought me to get out the delicacy from my pocket.

“See? Isn’t it pretty?” I asked.

The boy’s fingers glided onto my palm as he snatched the flower off of it and stared at it in awe.

“Woah. It is beautiful. I’ve never seen anything like it.”

“…Y…You can keep it.”

Suddenly, the faint cries of my name echoed throughout the park.

“Dae Eun! Dae Eun! Where are you?!”

“I need to go now. Tell your dad what happened and make sure you wash it before you put a band-aid on it. It might get infected if you don’t.” I gave out advice.

I smiled at him before walking off to my dad’s meeting place I was previously at.

“There you are Dae Eun.”

My dad sighed in relief before approaching me.

“Come on. Your mum is waiting for us.”

I took his hand and as we began to walk, I looked back only to see the boy and the bike gone.

Maybe he found his dad.

“Jagiya?” Jung kook called out, clearing me back to reality from my reminiscence.

“N…Ne?”

“Are you okay? You looked dazed for a second. Are you feeling sick?”

“No… No. I’m fine really.”

I averted my gaze onto the little boy crying sobs whilst curling his right knee to his chest next to his tricycle.

“Jagiya?”

“Mm?”

“Let’s go.”

I took Jung kook’s hand, still keeping my eyes targeted on the little boy.

Just as I turned to walk off a direction, I was collided with another figure causing me to let go of Jung kook’s hand, fall to the ground and possibly receiving the distinctive coloured bruise along the cheeks of my buttock. Yes… buttock. Unfortunately for me, I didn’t see who I rammed into.

“Jagiya!”

Jung kook came running towards my fallen figure as another shadow appeared present.

“I’m sorry! I should’ve seen where I was going…!”

“Yeah you should have! Watch where you’re going!” Jung kook bellowed.

“Ah… no. It’s ok. I’m fine.”

Reluctantly, both gentlemen helped me up. I scanned his features while I had the chance, might I say, he wasn’t all that bad. He had a sharp jawline, dark brown spontaneous hair and oddly enough, his vibe seemed familiar.

“I’m really sorry. I’m late for a meeting.”

His figure walked past us as Jung kook scoffed and turned to face his back.

“Yah! Are you serio…” Before he could scold any longer, I grabbed him by the arm and turned him to face me.
