The South Pole: Confession pt. 1

Magnet

The magnetic lines of force originate from the North Pole of a magnet and end at its South Pole

“President...”

“Sungmin...” a clear-pitched voice called. It was warm and tender like a wind chime rattling in a brezzy summer day.

The voice resuscitated a blonde boy who laid peacefully on a couch, his right hand was above his head. With a slow movement, Lee Sungmin opened his eyes and found a blurry image of his bestfriend. He squinted before answering with a hoarse voice. “Wookie...” Sungmin’s eyelids fluttering for few times until he finally saw Ryeowook’s creased face.

“Are you okay?” Ryeowook asked. Despite the smooth firm in Ryeowook’s tone, Sungmin frankly saw his bestfriend’s anxiety who took a seat beside his collapsed body on the couch.

Thin smile crept on the blonde’s face. “Of course... I’m just tired.” Heavy breath flew out along with his answer.

Ryeowook’s eyes enlarged a little, showing his ambiguity over Sungmin’s condition. The blonde president’s smile was not radiant as it used to be. Ryeowook discovered, his smile was less charming because of a little black circle around Sungmin’s eyes and a rather pale color on his lips, which usually looked fresh in pink-ish color.

That was odd...

The clock displayed 07.20 am which means today was still early. And early for Lee Sungmin implied excitement, happy and energy booster for others. Never at once Ryeowook saw exahaustion or troubled expression on Sungmin’s face in the morning when the day was still long ahead.

Finding his President slept in the President’s office was unusual enough, moreover with his worned out condition as if he just lost taekwondo’s championship.

“What happened...” sharp as always, Ryeowook asked directly.

Opposite from Ryeowook who seemed a little bit tense and serious because of his anxiety, Sungmin was quite loosened. He moved his right hand towards his mouth, covering his yawn with his palm. He took the liberty to stretch his body, a crack sound was heard when Sungmin tilted his head to the right and to the left a few times. “I couldn’t sleep last night.” He finally answered and gave the other boy a wide smile, which still, in Ryeowook’s opinion, not lively as usual.

There was a hidden itention behind Sungmin’s smile. Sungmin mustered all of his strength to form the best smile, hoping it could distract his best friend so then he would stop going further on the question of ‘what happenned’. Sungmin clearly didn’t want to talk about his sole problem that making him this exahausted.

“Again?” Ryeowook questioned with such a tone that wanting the blonde to elaborate his answer.

Sungmin was trapped. He realized he couldn’t escape his best friend’s eagerness. He shouldn’t even try it, because Ryeowook always found his way to get what he wanted over a debate. As much as Sungmin tried to avoid, God created Kim Ryeowook with such power of coercion and Lee Sungmin with soft heart. “Yes, Kyuhyun tired me out last night it took a toll on me.” Sungmin closed his eyes, hoping he could escape his bestfriend’s frantic reaction with the mention of Kyuhyun, whom successfully made a ‘pissed off’ impression for the Secretary in their first encounter.

“WHAT?!!!” as if he just heard the school was burned down, Ryeowook turned in horror. His high pitched surprised voice was at the highest chord.

In a snap, Sungmin opened his eyes and grumbled a little with Ryeowook’s loud and noisy reaction. He almost asked his Secretary for having such an ‘overreaction response’ before he furrowed and realized something.

Wait... What did I say?

-Kyuhyun tired me out last night it took a toll on me...-

It sounded misleading...

“What?! NO!” Sungmin suddenly raised his body to a sitting position. “It’s not like what you think... No, no, no...no!” The blonde boy shook his head vigorously, trying to eliminate a sudden ‘wild imagination’ popped in his head. “We’re not doing any inappropriate things.” He held Ryeowook’s right arm, convincing his words with body language to make the other believe in him.

Ryeowook released a breath that stucked in his lungs seconds ago, calmly. His wrinkled face relaxed a little, narrowed eyes turned supple. He almost had a heart-attack with Sungmin’s answer before, thinking that his lovely bestfriend got laid with the evilly worst-person he ever met.

A soft giggled was heard from Sungmin who brushed his blonde hair backward with his hand, making a clear vision for him to look at his bestfriend. “As your bestfriend, I’m quite insulted that you assumed things like that...” the blonde flicked Ryeowook’s head playfully. “I’m not that easy...” he said smugly.

However, after Sungmin said those words to the Secretary, the last night memory where he made out with Kyuhyun, emerged. The blonde shifted away a little, feeling uncomfortable. He just betrayed himself and Ryeowook.

Ryeowook smiled before replied his President “Let me make it up to you... Cinnamon milk tea?” Without waiting for the other’s response, he raised his body from the couch.

“I’d prefer cafe lat-”

“Nope, definitely no coffee this morning.” Ryeowook chimed in before the President finished his drink's preferences. “You’re going to skip classes and sleep. So you need a relaxing drink.” He said while taking steps towards the mini-bar cabinet.

“Why do I need to skip classes?” voiced a suspicious tone from Sungmin.

Ryeowook took few seconds focusing on preparing milk tea. Clanking sounds of the tea cup and spoon was filling the air, leaving unanswered question from the President. While still preparing biscuits to go along with the tea, the Secretary finally answered “Because it will took few hours for you to tell me what happened.” He smiled when the tea set was perfectly set.

Familiar ringtone from Sungmin’s phone held all of the words Sungmin was going to voice out to Ryeowook. The blonde quickly alarmed and reached for his phone on the table.

“Yes, Hyung?” He answered the call with a cheery voice.

“Is everything went well President?”

Sungmin chuckled with his Hyung’s greetings on the phone. “Stop it Hyung. Min sounds much better.” A friendly laugh was heard from the other line before Sungmin continued “And yes, everything’s good. Why Hyung?”

Sungmin could identify a soft sigh released from the other line.

“No, nothing... Hmm, maybe I’m just too excited to meet you this Saturday it got me worried.” He chuckled.

Sungmin smiled in returned, eventhough he knew his Hyung couldn’t see it. He was happy with the attention and care his Hyung gave to him. Small actions like these made him realized that he was appreciated, and valued in someone’s life. Maybe Sungmin didn’t received this kind of love from his parents, but he didn’t bother with that. They said, ‘all roads lead to Rome’ and for Sungmin, his need to be loved was just not came from his parents.

While Sungmin having his conversation on the phone with, whom Ryeowook assumed, Leeteuk or Kangin, the petite Secretary set up the tea set on the table. He planned to skip class today with Sungmin and found out what made him at this state. He knew something unusual happened last night, and he would find out, soon enough.

After saying goodbye to his Hyung, Sungmin pulled his phone away from his ear and put it on the table. He took spoonful of sugar and poured it to his cup.

The President was stirring his tea when Ryeowook asked “So... What was actually happened last night with Cho Kyuhyun?”

Sungmin halted, his fingers suddenly stopped stirring when he heard his Secretary. His heartbeat slowly quicken by the question. Sungmin didn’t realize that his thumb and forefinger almost crooked the spoon he was holding due to the tight grip he made.

It was confusing. Sungmin didn’t know which one is the best option. Should he tell Ryeowook the truth about last night? What makes him bothered so much he couldn’t sleep? Would Ryeowook become angry with him? Would he judge him as a ? But it would be unfair for Ryeowook if Sungmin lied or didn’t reveal about last night right? Sungmin was lost and troubled.

The blonde closed his eyes and took a deep breath. He decided it. He decided that whatever Ryeowook was going to say, he would endure it. It already happened and Sungmin didn’t feel any kind of regret.

Wait.

If I didn’t regret it, did it means I... feel grateful about it?

Cho Kyuhyun you jerk! You’re definitely paying back for making me this suffer!

To escape from his conflicting mind, Sungmin opened his eyes and looked at the brown haired boy in front of him, who thankfully indulged with his own cup of milk tea and biscuits. The secretary definitely oblivious to Sungmin’s troubled situation.

Why is it so hard to say it...

“Wookie... Please don’t judge me...” Sungmin used Ryeowook’s nickname, hoping it would help to wooed the other.

Ryeowook nodded casually. “Sure.” He took his cup to his lips and sipped his drink.

“I couldn’t sleep because I was nervous having Cho Kyuhyun in my room.” Sungmin took a glance to Ryeowook and could assume that he was still calm, even though he saw the other boy drank his tea rather too quick. And so Sungmin continued “Especially after... We kissed.”

*burst!!*

“Holy shiiiitt!!” Ryeowook choked. He burst out his tea and it successfully spilled on Sungmin’s face.

*****

“Where is he?” a light brown haired man put his phone back to his jeans pocket and turned his body towards another man, who was sitting in front of a table with few screens and keyboard on it.

“His phone GPS located him at Royal Sapphire High School, Level 2, room No. 207, known as Student Council’s President Office.” The sitting man answered. His feature was rather buffed and intimidating. He had a broad shoulder, short black hair, strong muscled arms and a handsome face that most of the mothers in Korea wanted to have him as a son-in-law. “Should we be worried Teuk? It was definitely an intruder in his room.” He glanced up towards the other.

The brown haired man creased a little, his brown eyes saw the other man’s pair. “I think we just need to commence phase 1. If something bad happened, I’m sure Sungmin would call us.”

“Agreed. Maybe it was a burglar or a jealous student who wanted to mess with our President.” The dark haired man typed something on his keyboard with a confidence.

“Watch your mouth Kangin. Our beloved President didn’t like to be called that way. He preferred Min.” Leeteuk chuckled, remembering his conversation with the said boy few seconds ago.

“Really?! But I would love to call him that, it sounded cool and prestige.” Kangin answered and tapped an enter button rather harshly. “Done! See ya boy!”

“Who is he anyway? Do his fingerprints could make any clue?” Leeteuk walked closer to where the buffed man sat.

“Hmm... I’m not sure. He is a new guest in Sungmin’s room. His fingerprints was never discovered there before. I will try to look at the school’s data.” Kangin typed his keyboard once again. “Well, one thing for sure. He was very much infatuated to know more about our Min. Cabinets contained photo albums, bookshelf and Sungmin’s study desk were places he mostly laid his fingers on.”

“Can we see him?” Leeteuk asked, rather suggesting the other.

“Unfortunately... We cannot. Your cute adorable Minnie found out about our cctv cable and cutted it off several weeks ago. Didn’t you remember when he suddenly gave us silent treatment?” Unbelievable expression was evident on Kangin’s face.

“He did?! But he still called me regularly, as usual.” Leeteuk sounded oblivious on the fact he heard from the other.

“So it was only me who received his silent treatment then?!” Kangin’s eyes furrowed, he was clearly surprised. “See?! I hate this position. It was you who always be the fairy god mother and received credits from our Minnie, while I always be the wicked witch.” His tone evidently proved that he was very much irritated with the fact.

Leeteuk laughed in reply, showing his attractive dimples that always surfaced whenever he widen his lips. He Kangin’s back gently, as if comforting the frustrated buff man, or rather gesturing him that he couldn’t do anything about it and he should accept the fact.

Dear Min, my lover,

I need to take care of something, so I left before you came back.

I’m glad I was with you last night, and it surprised me that I, somehow, relieved with two jerks attacking me. They bought us in rather good terms last night. Your hands are really good in treating me (whatever it means).

See you at our sessions, minus the chocolate, I’d rather chose black coffee, thank you.

-Your Kyu-Hyung

Sungmin was holding a piece of paper Kyuhyun had left for him. He was amused after he read the whole message. The nicknames were definitely a teasing since it was no way that ‘hell of a jerk’ would turned to be romantic. However, Sungmin didn’t feel offended, or irritated towards the rebel. Kyuhyun’s message without any form of ‘thank you’ or ‘sorry’, the sudden leave without any further explanations, cigarrates’ odor that filled the air in Sungmin’s room, all of those couldn’t stop Sungmin’s heart to flutter and his lips to release a small laugh.

The blonde President fished out his phone from his pocket. He typed a message to his so-called lover.

Dear my Kyu-Hyung,

You should have a good excuse for leaving. By good means having a proper treatment for your injuries. Don’t make your Min feel worried and useless with his first-aid treatment to you.

And, for your information, black coffee is not allowed in my room, also cigarrates.

-Your beloved lover

Sungmin sent his message and put his phone on his desk. He felt satisfied, whether the other would reply or not, it didn’t matter. He could only feel that his chest felt free, free from a burden, just like a bird released from its cage.
