Magnetism 3: First Study Session

Magnet

Magnetism is a class of physical phenomena that includes forces exerted by magnets on other magnets.

Reflecting on the past event would make us became stronger as all of us formed by history. Confucius even agreed that history was very important by saying ‘study the past if you want to define the future’.

Cho Kyuhyun also had opinion about history, he thought that history was...

“Bull!! I don’t get it why we have to understand what’s in the past. Yesterday was over. We live in the present for god’s sake!” he protested in a quite loud voice, to no one in particular.

Tonight was the first study session of the ‘it’ couple from Royal Sapphire High School. They started rather early in Sungmin’s room, straightly after his Student Council’s meeting. Today, the blonde President had a hectic day, even for his ‘ghost’ to haunt him everywhere.

After the little commotion at the lobby, Kyuhyun and Sungmin went to the laboratory for their Biology class. They got separated later due to their own classes they had, until the end of the school’s hours. The rebel couldn’t even be around Sungmin during lunch time as he got rejected by the President Council’s door with a big sign of ‘please be quite, meeting held inside’. Yes, his busy so-called boyfriend was in a meeting throughout lunch break. Kyuhyun was considering to barged in before his teacher suddenly came within sight. Shim Changmin just had to be around and Kyuhyun, who was very much avoiding everything related to that teacher, decided to retreat wisely. The rebel stepped back from the hall quietly.

When Sungmin arrived at his dorm, Kyuhyun was already bent leisurely in front of his door, wore casual black shirt and holding plastic bags contained of beers. This time, Sungmin smiled when he saw the other. He was happy because of two things, the rebel’s presence, and his cigar that wasn’t in sight.

Sungmin was preparing instant ramen while explaining to Kyuhyun about their schedules–when and what to study. Since the rebel had a very low mark in history, the blonde putted extra slots for history sessions. Kyuhyun didn’t react when he received schedules from Sungmin. But when he saw how thick and many books he needed to read for that one particular subject, his dark eyes were suddenly gathered to the middle, and then, that protest followed after.

“We live by history. History made us and define who we are now.” Sungmin argued, while preparing their bowls. “And who said you need to understand it? You just have to know it.”

The rebel, who already made a comfortable position on the carpeted floor in the living room, shifted his glance towards Sungmin. “It doesn’t important to know about the past. What had done was done. Let me ask, do you remember your mother’s face? How she was look like?”

Sungmin was startled by the sudden question as he almost lost grip of his pot. How he didn’t spill the hot ramen when he poured into the bowl was considered lucky. “No...” he answered, with a hollow tone. The blonde was thinking why Kyuhyun suddenly brought up the subject of his mother.

Talking about a woman who delivered you into this world was a sensitive topic for Lee Sungmin. Everytime someone mentioned about their mother or asked the blonde about his mother, Sungmin would automatically turned melancholy. For 17 years, he still didn’t know how his mother look like, does she had a long hair? Was she pretty? Does she loved pink and pumpkin like himself? Funny how Sungmin didn’t have any memory about her, except the given fact that she was died because of cancer. It’s just like she was never exist in this world, or in Sungmin’s world. And it made the blonde felt guilty.

Sungmin always reflected and asked himself on what did he done in the past that made him clueless about his mother. When everyone bragged about their mother’s cooking, Sungmin only listened. When he saw Sunkyu’s mother came to support her musical show, Sungmin only smiled. When Ryeowook told him how nagging his mother could be during winter just to remind him about his health, Sungmin felt envious.

His father was out of option in this case as he regarded Sungmin’s loss memory of his mother was a good thing. Lee Sunghyun intentionally wanted his son to forget about his mother because he didn’t want Sungmin to mourn about her. However, didn’t all of us wanted to know where we came from? Just like everybody else, knowing both of your parents was like forming your self-identity. Sungmin still needed to know about his mother. Or else he would feel lost. Or else he had somekind of identity crisis. And he hated himself because of it.

“And here you are, still living your perfect life and looking forward to the future.” Kyuhyun’s words snapped Sungmin’s back from his thought. “So was your history important then? Was it define who you are now? Will it shape your future?” The rebel, who already stood up walked towards Sungmin. “No, Min. History didn’t make us, we work hard to be better everyday and to achieve what we wanted.” He took the bowls from Sungmin’s possessions and walked away to put it on the living room table, where they would do their study.

Sungmin blinked.

He was frozen on his spot while his hands still hanging from holding the 'taken' bowls. The blonde was still digesting Kyuhyun’s words in his head as he started to ask himself.

Do I need to know about my mother?

And what was going to happen when I knew about her?

If she was a bad person, will it affect my life?

If she was a worst person, will it define my future?

Is it still important to recall memory about her?

~What had done was done. History didn’t make us, we work hard to be better everyday and to achieve what we wanted~

Sungmin didn’t know why suddenly Kyuhyun’s voice resounded once again in his head. It was amusing how Kyuhyun’s words were more suitable for Sungmin’s situation rather than arguing about philosophy of history. But he assured that voice gave him an answer, that voice calmed him, that voice guided him to move his lips upwards and to form a smile. Sungmin was contented.

“-iin...”

“Miin-ah...” Kyuhyun’s deep voice suddenly filled the blonde’s ear.

“Are you going to stand there?” The rebel’s eyes narrowed while asking. “I’m suffering without cigarette already. Don’t you dare make me more suffer by letting me hungry.” Kyuhyun took his chopstick and shifted a little, making a space on his left. “Let’s eat. Or I can’t study. And I’ll get cranky.” He patted the carpetted floor on his left, making a gesture for Sungmin to sit.

Keeping his smile on his face, Sungmin walked slowly to Kyuhyun. His mind telling him how his Hyung looked totally cool and adorable right now. How his Hyung was god damn right based on his hard way of living. How his Hyung's way of thinking was simple, yet rationally practical. How all of Cho Kyuhyun looked gorgeous in his own way. Yes, Sungmin admitted, he adored the rebel very much right now.

Kyuhyun was stirring his ramen when he noticed Sungmin’s presence on his left side. What he didn’t notice was, the blonde’s palm hands that suddenly on each side of his face, wrapping around his cheeks. Next thing Kyuhyun knew, Sungmin turned his face towards him and the beautiful face of Lee Sungmin filled his vision.

The blonde President in his eyes was looking at him with those glassy doe eyes like a clear crystal sparkling any lights. He was smiling, showing his white teeth a little, shaping his lips into a fascinating form. Narrow space was between his lips, making its m-shape more lucious.

Maybe the lights made Kyuhyun imagined things. Whether it’s real or not, the rebel saw Sungmin sparkled with the dim light as his background. He was so beautiful it made Kyuhyun helplessly loose his grip of his chopsticks. In his dreamy state, Sungmin’s cologne filled his nostrils, making the rebel more far away from a real world.

The blonde saw how Kyuhyun’s dark eyes turned cloudy. He figured out that his charm successfully made the other stupefied. Sungmin knew he got him. And it made the blonde more confident.

Sungmin tilted his head and leaned slowly towards the other’s face. Mint scent was catched by his nose before he closed his eyes tightly and caressed Kyuhyun’s lips with his own.

The rebel was wakened out by a gentle brush on his lips. His bulging eyes couldn’t hide his surprise by the bold move from Sungmin. Surely, Sungmin kissed back, but the blonde never kiss first, at least until tonight. And Kyuhyun regarded it as an improvement. Seconds later, Kyuhyun closed his eyes, covered the blonde’s hand on his cheek with his own, and indulging himself with their lips contact.

It was a simple and gentle kiss. Their lips molded together, fulfilling every angle in harmony, and their tongues were behaved inside their respective mouth. As subtle as the kiss might seem, their passion was still evident. How Kyuhyun covered Sungmin’s hand tighter over his cheek and how Sungmin responded by leaning closer to the other were just a simple proof. Small sound of smooch remarked the end of their contact.

Sungmin was reluctant to let his hands off Kyuhyun’s face. He glanced towards the rebel while maintaining a short distance between their faces. The blonde smiled brightly when Kyuhyun’s dark eyes laid on his.

Kyuhyun brought Sungmin’s right hand away from his face, only to peck it gently. “What was that?” he asked in a hoarse voice. It didn’t mean Kyuhyun protested, he’s just eager to know what made Sungmin suddenly wanted to kiss him in the first place.

Sungmin let out a small laugh before answered. “Appetizer.” The blonde let Kyuhyun to kiss his hand once again. “For your effort to smell like a mint, and for being an attractively troublesome boyfriend.”

The rebel shrugged. “I would like a whole set of appetizers then.” He smirked.

“! I still didn’t understand the use of it.” Kyuhyun raked his head while continued “History was written by the winner, it was a narcissistic subjective point of view.” He groaned.

Sungmin released a small chuckle before said. “Sorry Mr. Pragmatic, no matter how logically practical your argument is, but a lot of population in this world still regard the importance of history thus became a subject in education system.” The blonde who was writing his homework took a glance towards the other and continued. “Besides, no matter how good or bad, there is always something we learn from history.”

“Didn’t mean I have to know what happening to the world long before I was born.” Kyuhyun argued, while flipping pages of his thick book.

Sungmin breathed out a soft sigh, putted down his pencil and glanced up to Kyuhyun. “Are we going through this again?”

“It was too much to remember Min. Can’t you see it?” The rebel’s right hand was pointing toward their history books. “And you wanted me to make summary of this 500 pages book?”

Sungmin glanced towards his clock before peeked his eyes to Kyuhyun’s papers. It was 30 minutes to eleven and the rebel already made 25 pages of summary. He skimmed the first page a little. “Don’t write all of it.” Sungmin commented. “That’s why it took you so long and make you surrendered easily.”

Kyuhyun glanced down on his papers, trying to figure out what the hell was Sungmin talking about.

“When you write a summary for history, make a big timeline as your framework and write down 4 important key questions. When, what, who and where for each phenomena. Example, during world war I, write down notes that answered those questions–when did it happened, what happened, who were involved and who won, also where the war took places.” Sungmin explained. “I always did that for my history’s summary. And when it’s time to memorize, I always add funny things into the materials.”

Kyuhyun gathered his eyes and made a stern, confused face.

Sungmin continued without waiting for the other’s spoken answer. “Like, when I was trying to memorize the result of french revolution, I put my own funny thing. LEF, abbreviation for Liberty, Egality and Fraternity I changed it into Louis XVI Engaging Fat.” Sungmin laughed a little, considering how lame his description was. “If you put interesting things along with your materials, your brain will automatically remember it longer than usual. Just think about something funny when you memorize your notes.” He suggested.

The rebel only hummed, and Sungmin was not sure Kyuhyun understand what he was talking about or not. The rebel’s hollow eyes made the blonde believed that Kyuhyun had lost his concentration. “You looked tired. Let’s call it a night and have a rest. Today was first day anyway.” Sungmin proposed.

The rebel just nod in reply. He wouldn’t deny that he was totally exhausted , especially from reading text right now. Both of them started to gather their things on the table when Kyuhyun suddenly asked. “You seemed busy today. Everything okay?”

The blonde glanced up to Kyuhyun and smiled. “Yeah, non-stop meetings with the council. Charity event is going to be in a month, so a lot of things needed to be prepared. And, thank god they didn’t bring up our little drama this morning.”

Kyuhyun chuckled before said “You were great this morning. Wise, calm and sincere. So, you don’t have to worry.” The rebel remembered how subtle Sungmin was when they confronted Jongwoon and several judging eyes at the lobby.

Sungmin lifted his body to stand up. “But you backed me up at the lobby. I can't imagine how it would be more intense if it discussed during council’s meeting.” Pile of books were on the blonde’s hand as he started to walk towards his book cabinet.

The rebel also stood up after he finished recollecting his items. “Speaking of lobby...” Kyuhyun took steps to Sungmin who was busy putting back his books. “Are you saying the truth?” Kyuhyun was already stood behind the other when he asked in a low voice.

Sungmin halted for a moment as he tried to collect his memory this morning. Found nothing was wrong with all of his words he said this morning, Sungmin nodded. “Of course, I always meant what I said.”

Kyuhyun opened his arms and pulled Sungmin’s body into his embrace from behind, an affection that made the other shocked and lose grip of his book. “So, you love me then?”

*thumped*

What?

Sungmin’s body reacted with their close proximity. The blonde could feel how his blood rushed in a sudden speed and how his heartbeat started to thump like a drum. “Wh-what are you talking about?” despite his nervousness, he managed to voice out his confusion.

“You said you fall in love with a person, not a gender.” Kyuhyun leaned down his face to the blonde’s nape and whispered. “If you meant what you said this morning, that means you love me right...”

Sungmin shivered in an instant. Kyuhyun’s whispers was ticklish and sending chills at the same time. And Sungmin couldn’t hold not to have goose bumps all over his body.

The blonde was starting to collect his mind when Kyuhyun’s hands clasped tighter around his stomach. Kyuhyun was pulling the other closer to his body. After getting more calm, Sungmin closed his eyes for few seconds. He held Kyuhyun’s hands firmly, separated its locked and released himself from the other. All of it in one swift, yet fast movement. Sungmin turned around and gave the other a smiling face.

“You’re assuming things too advanced. It’s true I fall in love with a person, not a gender, but I never referred you as that person.” Sungmin stressed the words. He was smiling cockily. “Now, before you got in trouble for breaking the curfew.” Sungmin gripped Kyuhyun’s right hand and dragged him towards the front door. “It’s time to go back to your room Kyu-hyung.” The blonde opened his door and pushed Kyuhyun from his back, ushering him out of his room.

“Wait, wait, wait...” The rebel was outside Sungmin’s room as he turned around and said “you’re shooing me out?”

“Hmm...” the blonde tiltled his head a little to the left before replied “No. I’m sending you off.” He grinned happily and continued. “Good night Kyu-hyung.” Sungmin was going to close the door when suddenly Kyuhyun’s feet blocked the door to shut.

“Wait!!” Kyuhyun was preventing the door to close before of his eyes. “That’s it?” he opened his arms and landed his hands on both side of each frame door. “No dramatic goodbye?” the rebel leaned forward to Sungmin.

The blonde was chuckling softly while rolling his eyes. “You’re pathetic.” Sungmin raised his hands to reach Kyuhyun’s collar. He gripped it and tiptoed a little, closing the gap between their faces. Lazy sound of pecking lips filled the air around the corridor, as if became a very short lullaby for them.

Unknown to the couple, a student with his DSLR camera was grinning happily beyond belief taking pictures of their intimate moment. “Oh, these are precious. Well done Hyukjae.” He told himself, gummy smile formed proudly.
