The Flower Boys (Three Flowers)
It was you, Ga Eul, and Kai walking out of the double doors of the school. A few students were still there, studying in their classrooms while wearing weary expressions. Ga Eul felt rejuvenated when she had heard that Kai would be walking her to the intersection to fetch a taxi. She was all smiles as she walked close to Kai (barely linking arms) and talking non-stop. You followed behind them, watching Ga Eul act "cute" in front of Kai. It was actually humorous to see Ga Eul try so hard to impress him. He was so popular and good looking yet when he had spoken to you he seemed down to earth and nice. You figured him and Ga Eul would make a perfect match.
"But why was he being weird? Why did he say that my name was cute?" You kept asking yourself. No one thought your name was cute. It was actually quite average. Your name doesn't have any special meaning and it's not like it's unique at all. You look at Kai as he smiled down at Ga Eul. " However his smile....is.... really....nice...." you said to yourself. You can't help but stare as he continues to smile at Ga Eul. Then Kai looks beyond his shoulder to see you staring at him.
Quickly, you divert your glance else where. Hoping to god that he did not catch you looking at him that way. You stuff your hands in your pockets as the cold air hit's your bare cheeks.
"Oppa..." Ga Eul called him (gaining his attention now).
"Hmm?" Kai responded.
"Let's eat lunch tomorrow." Ga Eul said.
"Mmm...sounds good....
The way that he said your name made your heart beat faster. "NO!!! This can't....I can't....I can't like the way he say's my name." You say to yourself.
"Deh?" You answered him, trying to control your heart.
"You'll join us for lunch right?" Kai asked.
Ga Eul turned around looking at you as she widened her eyes. You can tell what she was thinking automatically. She did not want you to be the third wheel. Tearing your gaze from her you looked at Kai and shook your head.
"I-I don't think I will be able to..."
"She'll be studying. So...it can be just you and I." Ga Eul interrupted you.
Kai slowly nodded his head and smiled.
"Maybe next time..." He said and turned back to talk to Ga Eul.
You look off and continued to walk behind the two. The three of you arrived at the intersection and Kai flagged down a taxi for Ga Eul. Just as she was about to leave she asked Kai...
"Where do you live? Do you want to ride with me?"
Kai shook his head.
"I live near here. I'll be fine. Please driver...take care of her well." Kai said to Ga Eul and then the driver.
The driver responded with a nod and Ga Eul frowned a little.
"That's too bad. I really wanted to ride with you. Maybe next time...oh.. be safe....and
You smiled at her and bowed.
"Annyoung." You said.
"I'll call you." She said and waved to Kai.
Kai waved back and together you two watched as the taxi driver took her on her way. Sighing you turned around and walked away, starting for home.
"Yah!!!" You heard Kai said.
You turn around and see Kai running to catch up with you. He faces you blocking your path.
"Where are you going?" he asks.
"Home." You responded.
"Not without me...come on." He said.
"I'll be fine." You said to him.
"I'll feel really bad if you walked home by yourself. What if a ert comes and attack you?" Kai asked.
"What ert would want to harass someone like me?" You said out loud .
That was something you had meant to say to yourself. Not out loud ...to Kai. Kai couldn't believe those words had came from your mouth. You closed your eye's mentally punching yourself for saying such words.
"Are you not a woman?" he asked.
You look up at him and seen his whole demeanor change. That smiling Kai you had saw seconds ago had became serious in an instant. It was almost scary.
"I-i am...it's j-just..."
"It makes no difference weather your big or small...ert's out there don't care. Nights like this you should have someone walk you home...." he said.
What he said made perfect sense. You could not deny his honest words.
"I'm walking you home. Show me the way." he said.
You couldn't help but give in and start walking. He walked by your side and at first the both of you did not say anything. But Kai could not resist talking to you.
"Ga Eul...is she always talkative?" Kai asked.
You nod your head. Ga Eul was not the type to hold her tongue for too long. You admit, she does talk a bit too much.
"But how did you two become friends? You two are quite different." he said.
You look at the ground expecting those words to come from his mouth...
"I mean...your quiet and Ga Eul...isn't..."
"She approached me first. She started talking to me and we became friends." You said to him.
"How long have you two been friends?" he asked.
"For three years now. " You said to him.
"She's the only person who didn't judge me because of my looks." You felt like saying that to him.
Kai looks at you and smiles a little.
"She's pretty." he said.
You nod your head. As if you had not heard that enough times from other people. You knew well how pretty and likable Ga Eul is.
"Haven't you got any other friends?" he asked you.
"No." You responded him carefully.
"Then...should we become friends?" he asked you.
Your heart beat's faster, and you can't seem to hear anything else. Him suggesting to be your friend was beyond words. You've never had a friend that was a boy and this handsome.
"W-w-wae?" You asked him.
He looked at the night time sky and the passing night poles that lit the sidewalk towards your neighborhood.
"Because...I like you." he said.
"Eh?" You stopped walking, facing him.
He looked at you and smiled.
"Have you realized? Your the only girl that doesn't follow me around. Plus, you don't talk much. I like good people." he said.
"What makes you think I'm good?" you ask him.
"I don't know...I have yet to find out if your good....but I'm taking a chance...let's be friends....have a try...call me oppa..." he said.
Kai bends down to meet your eye's and you feel as if you can't breathe correctly. Your knee's feel weak and you think for a second that this could be a set-up. That right now could not be real. He was friends with Taemin sunbae. They probably both had the same intentions. But you thought back to when Lu Han had helped you. He really wasn't like Taemin sunbae. He was kind and gentle.
"I don't think..." you start...
"It's easy...say...oppa...OP-PA..."
"Oppa..." you muttered.
Kai smiled and came closer. You backed up, surprised once again at how close he is. Again you could smell the scent of him as he watched you intently.
"I did not hear you." he said.
You swallowed your spit and then look down. His finger's touched your chin and brought your face up to meet his eye's. It was the first skin ship between you two. He didn't seem to mind, his finger's on your face. Your heart beat accelerated faster.
"Say oppa...bballi (hurry/quickly)." he said.
His voice became deeper and his eye's a lot softer. Flustered you slapped his hands away and turned around completely nervous.
"I'll just call you Jong In-ah." You said to him.
Trying to regain your normal heart rate, you kept a small distance between him.
"Hmm?" Kai answered not hearing what you said.
"I want to call you Jong In-ah." You said a little louder.
You hear him sigh and then chuckle a little. Then you felt one hand on top of your head. He messes up your ponytail a little and you try to straighten it as you turned around and face him.
"Okay. Then...should I call you...ppang(bread)?" he asked.
"Ppang? Why would you call me that?" You asked.
He smiled and put his finger to his lips.
"It's my little secret." He said.
You couldn't help but wonder if this was all true or not. You felt as this was not true at all but the look on Kai's face said otherwise.
"Let's go take you home. I'm sure your umma is worried." he said.
He started to walk and you can't help but follow him. He starts to go in the wrong direction but you kindly guide him to the right place.
THE UNTOLD ENDING...that's right I will post a mini follow-up to this series. After many people not being satisfied with the ending I will add a mini sequel!
