D-Day is a hard day. The ladies are super excited and after eating together, they hang around Hannah while she gets ready in the hotel room. Hannah tries on both the red-carpet dress and the performance outfit at the hotel room, blushing and groaning at the compliments the others give her. The ladies are a big support, easing her nerves and making her beg to have them come with her. Just to be backstage, to be present. But they say they will be at the hotel, eat pizza (which they aren’t allowed to eat because of the music video filming tomorrow) and keep her company over the phone while they watch the award show on the TV. Hannah then goes to the venue for a last rehearsal. It is crowded today. It was a lot of people here last night too, but today it is a lot of artists. Celebrities that will present awards and artists that will perform. Hannah is there too. She gets her own caravan out on the back, like everyone else gets. It’s her waiting room. Her clothes, makeup, everything is there. Almost like a safe zone, away from camera crew, staff, celebrities and assistants walking outside the caravan. There is a lot of caravans and it is a lot of noise on and off outside. When going for rehearsals, Hannah comes across a few celebrities, but it is no one she stops to talk to. Everyone is busy. After rehearsals, it is time to get ready for the red carpet. Hannah gets her hair and makeup done. Her hair dark and simple, only small waves in it. For her dress, it is different. It is a long white gown with a slit up her left thigh, tight and fitting from hip up with long sleeves and a white belt with golden details. No V-neck or much revealing with the slit up her thigh, but it shows off her figure. It’s a mature outfit, not plain though it is simple without any eye-catching accessories. Besides from her wedding ring and engagement ring, she wears simple golden earrings. While getting her makeup done, wearing a towel over her chest to not get anything on her dress, Carolina calls on the chat. It is a video call and Hannah happily answer it. “Magnae!” Carolina cheers and someone else cheers next to her. “Unnie!” Hannah loudly cheers back when seeing Girls’ Generation’s Tiffany. The two happy girls on the video call are talking in mouth on each other, smiling brightly. Carolina is quick to ask why Hannah only greets Tiffany while Tiffany asks how it’s going and she is so excited for her to attend the award show. Hannah listens to them talk, smiling widely when looking at her stylist who keeps fixing her makeup. Tiffany has left Korea to focus on her career in America, both with acting and music. Carolina has taken this Los Angeles trip to set a date with Tiffany, to eat and hang out before they together are at the hotel to watch the show. They are in the car heading to the hotel when they talk to Hannah, all three of them having louder voices than normal out of excitement. It’s more of excitement than nervousness now, because Tiffany and Carolina talk about how jealous they are and who Hannah probably will get to meet. Hannah gets to share than when she left the hotel earlier today, fans were outside and said they will be cheering her on. It is all thanks to Puzzle that Hannah is here, she knows she has to say that in interviews. She reminds herself of it, not wanting to miss the opportunity to thank them at interviews on the red carpet. After the call, just minutes later, a staff of the show knocks on the door to the caravan to let them know they should get going. Hannah panics right away when her manager says they have to go to the van. “Already? I’m not done,” Hannah says and motions her hand for Chae Hwan to hurry finish up. “Do we have to leave this minute or can it be a few minutes?” “Two minutes. It’s better if you finish in the van,” manager Brooks says and asks Hannah to tell that to Chae Hwan. They grab a lot of things from the caravan to bring with them to the van. Hannah has a small white handbag with her, which pretty much only fits her phone and lipstick. She wears white pumps with the pointy toe she doesn’t like, and which hurts her feet a lot. Hannah takes her heel off the pumps when they sit in the van, sitting turned to the side for Chae Hwan to finish the makeup. The van is still for a long time, as it seems they weren’t in such a hurry as they thought they were. Going to the red carpet. Hannah gives a call to the ladies on their chat, having Maria answer and all voices being heard in the background. Loud voices, crazy voices, and not just the four ladies. They cheer her up, saying they are watching the red-carpet event right now, asking when she will show up and saying that fans on twitter are waiting as well. Mostly everyone seems to be waiting for BTS, but Puzzle is definitely out there waiting for Hannah to make her appearance. Hannah shakes her hands after the call. She puts her heels into the shoes and checks her makeup and hair, taking some deep breaths while the car is getting closer. Manager Brooks says she will be next to Hannah the whole time. Fans are on both sides of the street, carrying posters of BTS members and it looks more like she is going to a BTS concert than the American Music Awards. The van makes a stop. A red carpet indeed. Fans on both sides of the carpet with barrier fences keeping them on a distance, which it will be the whole long carpet walk with media on one side and celebrities on the other. First by the van, there are fans, then over by the big sponsoring background screens are the photographers, followed by the media and VIP for interviews. A black-dressed man slides open her door right after Hannah has taken a final deep breath. She steps out with a controlled expression, taking notice of her dress to not step on it and to not pull it up too much and her toes hurt as soon as she gets on the carpet. For the next couple of minutes, she is like a robot, doing things that she won’t remember she did. Simple things, but being blinded by photographers taking her pictures, people yelling at her to look their way and the whole time she looks calm and composed on the outside, smiling lightly while posing and having manager Brooks telling her when to move on. She passes the photographers and enters a corridor of journalists, cameras set up and people with big microphones calling for a short interview. It starts off well. Asks about her dress (every single person asks about her outfit), about her performing and attending the AMA’s, who she looks forward to meeting tonight or see on stage and such. Each time someone asks her who she looks forward to meeting, Hannah says one specific name: Christina Aguilera. Her childhood favourite. “There are a lot of powerful women here tonight that I look forward to see,” Hannah is answering a question about who she looks forward to seeing. “First of all Christina Aguilera, then there’s Pink and Kelly Clarkson, all whose songs I’ve been singing since I was a teen, you know. I definitely look forward to see their performances.” “And among all these amazing female artists, a lot of people are talking about BTS,” the interviewer starts off with the next question, glancing form camera to Hannah and moving her hand in the air while talking. Hannah nods, keeping her focus to not hear what other people around them are talking about. It’s a loud environment. “Now, if I’ve understood this correctly, you’re actually quite familiar with BTS and their members? You’re friends?” “I mean,” Hannah says with a tilt of her head, thinking of what answers about BTS she had gone through. “We know each other because both BTS and my group 5 Pieces work in Korea. I’ve seen them grow from having a few hundred fans to the worldwide fame they have today and it is an amazing story they have. I think a lot of people will be impressed by their performance because they always give 110% on the stage. It’s something to look forward to.” It’s a good answer, she will have her manager tell her that later; she doesn’t say too much and she doesn’t say nothing. Only, the more interviews Hannah does, the more she realises that the interviews have two basic questions for her: her outfit and BTS. No questions about 5 Pieces or their next single, how it feels to attend the awards at all, they just seem impressed with her outfit and ask about BTS. There is this female interviewer Hannah stops by who almost right away starts asking a question that is the opposite of the earlier one. It makes Hannah force out a smile and try hard to not be rude. The interviewer asks her; “There is this current BTS invasion in the US and everyone I’ve talked to tonight are looking forward to see BTS and have mentioned their fanbase. Have you heard about them and their music, what’s your opinion about this ARMY and K-Pop fans?” The interviewer is excited and she is smiling from ear to ear when asking this question, as if she can’t believe it herself how BTS’s fans have gone literally insane online to get the boy-group all the way across the ocean. But it also means with this question that this person has no idea of who Hannah is, which is why that smile has to be forced on Hannah’s face. She can’t be rude, and she thinks of the question she was just asked. Has she heard about BTS before? “Um… I think … ARMY has shown their support and love to BTS by bringing them all the way here. I think it shows their dedication and just how many fans there actually are of not just BTS but also of K-Pop, and … for BTS, uh, they are just that good and hardworking. I know that it isn’t just about K-Pop fans, there are fans in general that can be seen as crazy and insane, but most of it, I think is good, right? A lot of fans work just as hard as their artists if not even harder, and it’s noticed, I think.” “So you’d join this K-Pop fanbase, you think?” the interviewer gladly asks. Hannah gives a dry laugh. “I joined the K-Pop fandom back in 2007, so, in some ways I am already in it. And after working with 5 Pieces in Korea for the past nine years, I’d say there is a lot of hard work and dedication from all directions, and K-Pop has come a long way thanks to the amazing fans. Thank you.” Instead of being humiliated by the interviewer not knowing who she is and coming with worse questions, Hannah rounds it up by herself to move on. While she was giving the answer, from the very beginning, the interviewer’s face changed as she seemed to release what she just had done. It doesn’t stop there though. The next interviewer is a man, who clearly knows who Hannah is because he greets her by name. He asks whose beautiful dress she is wearing (the designer) and asking if she gets to wear any underwear in that dress. “What?” Hannah asks, hoping she had heard wrong and she stares at his mouth as he asks his question again and explains that the fabric of the dress seems thin and that it might be hard to choose underwear for it. Hannah glances at the camera-man, wondering if this is actually a serious question and she laughs from the cultural shock. “Pass. Next question, please.” She says it politely, laughing it off and he laughs with her, asking if it is a strange question. “Wanting to know if I wear underwear? Yes, it is the first time I’ve ever gotten such a question. Do you have anything else to ask me?” Hannah asks, staying polite and smiling. He doesn’t seem to understand why it would be strange but looks at his cards for another question. “If you had to choose to live a week without makeup or your phone, which one would you choose?” he asks. “Is that something you ask everyone tonight?” Hannah asks with a confused look, not sure if her smile is a smile or a frown anymore. Especially since he says he asks all female celebrities that question. “I’m performing at the AMA’s for the first time and people want to know if I’m a material person or if I go around without underwear? Can’t you ask me something more interesting?” Yes, that was a bit rude, Hannah thinks while smiling apologetically at him. He looks at his cards again. “If you got to bring home any man here tonight, who would it be?” Hannah puts a hand over to not show how she laughs at the third most stupid question, knowing that this is enough. She holds up her left hand, showing the rings while smiling brightly. “I’m married and I’m going solo tonight, sorry.” And with that, she moves on with laughter. She didn’t expect people to know who she is, so she admits she is surprised that a lot more people know her name and about 5 Pieces, but it feels a bit dissatisfying having a bunch of people only wanting to know about BTS or they ask questions that aren’t even interesting. And it doesn’t seem like it will ever end. Interview after interview, questions about her clothes, BTS, other artists she looks forward to seeing, and not a single question about 5 Pieces. She goes to the bathroom and heads back for a few more, telling her manager that she really wants to talk about 5 Pieces because they are making a comeback in a few weeks and no one is finding out about it. Hannah steps to the side when she is reaching the end, talking to her manager about maybe doing some live-event on SNS after this, just to talk to fans directly and say things she has been planning to talk about for weeks. Just simple things, things she had hoped someone would ask her tonight. A woman asks for a picture, saying her daughter is a big fan of 5 Pieces. And that makes Hannah feel a bit better, knowing someone randomly recognized her. She misses the ladies a lot. Two guys show up next, VIP passes hanging around their necks and they asks for a picture as well. Separately. Hannah takes one with the very tall guy first and he tilts his head and has his hands in his pockets. Then they change place. Hannah stays standing, smiling and showing a V-sign for the camera when feeling a hand on her side, under her arm. The guy smiles to the camera and his hand is literally going up and down her side, making it feel like he is reaching for her s and there is this shiver sent through Hannah’s body. Hannah takes his hand away, still smiling, but he takes his hand back and he does the exact same thing without looking away from his friend who is getting ready for the picture. That’s when Hannah thinks she misses Korea. She wants to go home. “Please don’t do that,” Hannah simply says and takes his hand away again. “Come on, it’s just a picture,” he says. Again, his hand goes back to her side and Hannah takes a step away, turning to him without that smile on her face. “I can take a picture, but please don’t do that with your hand on me,” she says, trying to not sound scared or angry. “What the , don’t be a about it, I just wanted to take a picture,” he snaps at her and grabs the phone from his friend. Manager Brooks steps in, thanking the guys for their time and putting her hand on Hannah’s back to go inside the tent and start move towards the venue. “Yeah, you’re an ugly nobody anyway, I didn’t even want a picture with you!” Hannah turns to look over her shoulder as he seems to be the insulted one and he continues to talk while Hannah, her manager and some staff members keeps them apart. “I just asked you to not touch me like that.” Hannah can’t help but to talk back, slowing her steps while the man is being told by his friend to step away. Manager Brooks shakes her head at Hannah, moving on. They had seen him acting up and Manager Brooks had waved for some backup. Hannah wants to cry all of a sudden, not wanting to create a scene though that guy outside the tent is clearly making one. But she is also angry, that he gets insulted because she doesn’t want him rubbing his hand by her s. She was the uncomfortable one and he got insulted or offended. “Are you okay?” Manager Brooks asks. “Ma’am, do you want us to do something?” a staff member politely asks, following them inside. “Hannah?” Manager Brooks asks. “No, no, no, it’s okay, just … keep him away from me,” Hannah answers and swallows, wondering if she sounds angry or like she is going to cry. Just as she is about to tell Manager Brooks that she wants to step out somewhere to be alone, call the ladies or something, she spots seven suited guys by a tall table further in. They have snacks, they have a laptop, all standing crowded next to each other with staff and managers in front of them and they automatically bring a smile to her face even though all of them seemed to have heard something was going on by the entrance to the tent. “Bangtan!” Hannah cheers. She waves her hands to them before greeting them, her attitude has changed completely, not having trouble changing the language to Korean. “How did it go for you?” “It went well,” Taehyung (V) answers and nods his head, having Jin say that there were a lot of fans outside. “I heard them,” Hannah laughs. She walks up to them, standing behind them so they have to turn around, just because she wants to stand by the wall behind them. They exchange a few words, Hannah saying everyone is talking about BTS and them saying they were so nervous and messed up a few English words but Namjoon (RM) overall says they did alright. At least they look good, Jin confidently says, and Hannah agrees on that. “We’re doing Vlive,” Hoseok (J-Hope) points out from the end of the table and points at the laptop where the camera is on and comments are rolling in. “What? Oh, sorry for interrupting,” Hannah grimaces, surprised they didn’t let her know earlier before she interrupted them like this. “No, no, introduce yourself,” Namjoon suggests and motions his hands for her to take a step forward. Hannah does as suggested, getting in between the BTS members and in Korean introduces herself as 5 Pieces’ Hannah. “Wait, which language do you use?” Hannah then asks and turns her head left and right, waiting for an answer. “Whichever,” they say in mouth to each other. “Alright,” Hannah says and glances at the comments. Good comments despite her interference. She continues in English; “Hi ARMY around the world, I’m 5 Pieces’ Hannah who right now is witnessing first-hand how extremely popular BTS is and how they outshine everyone at the red carpet – no joke, they are killing it. And ARMY that is here tonight are doing a great job not letting anyone forget the name BTS. You’re all incredible and … thank you!” She finishes off with an embarrassed laugh and steps back, applauding the boys and wishing them luck. They thank her too, and as Hannah is stepping away, Namjoon lowly says her name. “What happened out there?” he asks in a low voice, looking concerned. The other members turn to talk to their fans on Vlive, just talk and such, which Hannah checks when Namjoon brings up the topic. She takes a deep breath and stands clo
