Puzzle, we’ll see you at the tour soon!} Written in Japanese, Hannah is at the hotel room in New York with her phone in hand. She is reading the comments on her latest Instagram update. Though she wrote in Japanese, there are fans writing in English, Korean and Spanish, some commenting on the song they have been listening to and watched the video to, and others asking when 5 Pieces will release something internationally. Fans are waiting for 5 Pieces all around the world. They are excited that 5 Pieces are releasing new music in Japan but they still want a Korean album or an international one. A lot of Japanese fans are commenting with hearts and comments about patiently waiting for 5 Pieces. It is fun to read. 5 Pieces have been in New York for a few days. They arrived in Sunday, not doing much more than visiting some fashion stores and eating. On Monday, among a few other things they met a choreographer and started to learn the choreography for their next release; a song they have recorded in Korean already and the English version was recorded on Tuesday at Columbia. The ladies signed a new contract with the record label to continue their work together for another three years. They had a company dinner. On Wednesday, they had a free morning and then a photoshoot with Harper’s Bazaar US in the afternoon. It is now Thursday. 5 Pieces have two more days in New York and what they have planned is to learn the rest of the choreography for the new song. Hannah yawns tiredly and sits up, stretching her back and putting a hand up in the air. She has been awake for a while, pulling the curtains aside. It is a cloudy day, not raining like yesterday but it is uncertain if the sun will show. “What time is it?” Maria mumbles next to her, turning around to hug the pillow under her head and yawn tiredly in it. Hannah looks over her shoulder at her current roommate. “You’re awake without the alarm?” Hannah asks, admitting she is shocked. “Mm… I dreamt we had waffles and Nutella for breakfast.” Hannah smiles at the dream Maria had. The hotel breakfast serves that, and it is what Maria has eaten for two days along with some fruits. They enjoy the breakfast buffet they have been given here, yet Hannah longs to go back home and have Jonghyun kiss her on the arm in the morning, asking if they will have breakfast together. Hannah lets Maria know that it is a bit after eight in the morning. It seems like Maria decides to go back to sleep. Hannah, on the other hand, is sitting up in the large bed they are sharing. Wearing a big t-shirt that she put on when she went to the bathroom earlier, Hannah is sitting with her legs stretched out, stretching forward, waking her body up. She keeps her eyes on her phone, smiling widely when she receives a message from Jonghyun. Awake? He asks her. Instead of writing back to him, she presses the corner to give him a call through the chat. Her voice is low yet light when he answers and Maria is smiling against the pillow at the couple talking on the phone. After taking for a few minutes, Maria gets out of bed to go get ready for the day, hearing that Hannah and Jonghyun keep talking. They always seem to update each other, if not through texts it is through calls. It is already late evening in Seoul, they are 13 hours early, meaning that Jonghyun has already spent his Thursday while Hannah is only starting hers. When Maria gets out of the bathroom, Hannah is still sitting in the bed, phone in hand in front of her as she has Jonghyun on the loudspeaker. “Morning, Mr Hannah!” Maria lightly calls in the background. Hannah smiles widely at her friend. “Good night, Maria!” Jonghyun responses with a laugh. Maria leans on the bed to join in on their conversation, but she is quickly doing other things and pokes in from time to time with a comment in the background. Maria moves around a lot behind Hannah’s back; going through her bag, trying to decide what to wear, she does her makeup and in between checks her phone that she is charging. {Instagram, 5P_PRINCESS: Good morning from us. Or good night, if you are at the other side of the globe. I’m going to eat waffles now} Her smile is wide when adding icons to her update. Maria doesn’t update Instagram that often, but when she does, she tends to update it several days in a row before going off for a few weeks. She snapped a picture of Hannah on the bed, only her back-side but it looks good with the wide windows and the white puffy sheets. Hannah’s hair looks long, covering half of her back and her face isn’t seen. Maria looks at the picture once more before uploading it, pleased with what she has written and her stomach growling for breakfast. “Hey baby,” Maria starts to say with a frown, leaning against the bed to pinch Hannah on the arm. She isn’t bothered with Hannah flinching at being pinched. “What?” Hannah looks confused. “Did you lose weight?” Maria asks. Their eyes meet and while Maria looks curious, Hannah looks insulted. “Seriously? Do you have any idea of what we have been eating this week? If anything, I’ve gained at least 3kg,” Hannah answers, hearing Jonghyun chuckle on the phone. “Are you sure? You look tiny to me,” Maria mutters and sits down on the bed to show the picture she took. “See this? Ah, Jonghyun Oppa, look at my picture on Instagram. Her body looks tiny, right?” Hannah groans when Jonghyun says he will look it up, then says that Hannah’s body frame is petite, but she has a figure so it is hard to believe. He never gets to the point where he comments on the picture though, because they start talking about what they have been eating all week and it reminds the ladies of that they have to go eat breakfast. They hang up after that and Hannah gets dressed to go have breakfast with Maria. Hannah is wearing a sponsored outfit from Calvin Klein. Black sneakers with white stripes, a black long-sleeve top with the usual Calvin brand at the front, a pair of jeans shorts that aren’t too tight (she on purpose chose a size bigger than the one she should have, just to be more comfortable) and her underwear is the brand as well. All of the ladies have the underwear, Maria is wearing a sponsored cropped top in black with matching black shorts to it, the same sneakers as Hannah. it is easy to tell they went to a Calvin Klein store on their first day in New York, being given these clothes to wear. Hannah likes it, the long-sleeved top she wears is in a smooth material. The two ladies go downstairs for breakfast, having a total of four guards with them. As decided when they were in Japan over a week ago, the ladies keep having tight security. Even when eating, the guards stays in the corridor of the hotel rooms as well. It doesn’t feel safe at all, just … too much. The ladies agree on that. But there is nothing they can do about it. “Woaaaah,” Maria gives out with her jaw falling down at the sight of Julia already sitting with her breakfast. “What’s that for?” Julia asks with a low laugh but she looks like she knows what Maria reacted at. “Did you use tape to make them look like that?” Maria asks and leans over Julia to look down her shirt. Julia is wearing an oversized shirt in white and marine blue, barely buttoned to show off her cleavage and since both Maria and Julia have small s, they know the tricks to make it look good, without wearing a bra. The sleeves are ed and the shirt messily tugged inside the light jeans, she is wearing golden necklaces hanging down between her s and rings to match it. She looks like she is going for a photoshoot, not a practice room. Hannah quietly sits down, embarrassed over Maria’s reaction and obvious behaviour by checking out Julia’s cleavage. Maria is pleased, loving Julia’s look. A feminine tomboyish look. Maria sits down next to her. Though Julia and Maria say they are the most awkward together, when it comes to fashion and outfits, they get along well. “What about Emelia and Carolina?” Hannah asks while they are eating. She is eating waffles as well, not with Nutella but with yam. “Aren’t they having breakfast?” “Carolina took some yoghurt up to the room. She isn’t feeling well. Emelia… I don’t know,” Julia answers and shrugs her shoulder. “There’s still an hour left until we’re leaving.” “She’s probably coming out as late as possible. I should’ve done the same, but I rather eat for an hour,” Maria says while spreading the Nutella all over her three large waffles. They do sit there for an hour. Emelia comes after half an hour, ready for the day, their managers show up before and they are all talking when Carolina arrives a few minutes before they will leave. Maria does somehow manage to eat for an hour, while Julia and Hannah are done eating after twenty minutes. They talk about their time in New York and what they want to do internationally, just dream and wishes when talking to their managers. Then, they head to the studio to learn the new choreography. Adrianna Brooks is from Australia, a short woman in her late thirties who has been assigned to work with 5 Pieces as a manager. Their first meeting was a few years ago but with the new contract signed a few days ago it is their first time talking and meeting up other than greeting briefly. She is the one who will work as 5 Pieces’ manager when it comes to international promotions and activities, alongside a manager from SM Entertainment. She is loud and friendly, gladly telling them stories about New York and how it was when she first came here, how her family lives in Brisbane. And it is only a few days since they started working together. A lovable person with a bright smile. In the van on the way to the studio, she shares her stories and talk about going to the pharmacy to get Carolina some medicine for her stomach. Julia jokingly says that she might be pregnant, since she has a boyfriend, and Hannah and Adrianna are the only two who gasps at the joke. The thought of one of them being pregnant. What Hannah reacts to is more the fact that they usually use that joke on her, and she is impressed someone else has gotten the joke as well. They greet the people in the studio before warming up their bodies and going through what they learned at the start of the week. Everyone’s speaking English, they are focused on learning but the mood is at the same time light as they joke around over each other’s weird positions when making mistakes. During a longer break, some decide to go buy some coffee and snacks, others decide to just stay indoors and be lazy when given the chance. Hannah follows Maria and Adrianna outside to go snap some pictures. Since Hannah isn’t wearing makeup, she covers behind a black mask (mostly because their manager tells her to). Adrianna is talking while walking with them, looking around to see where they can take some natural pictures in the sponsored outfits. Guards are with them as well as stylist Yong Hyun and his assistant Chan Hyo. Since it will be nothing more than some natural pictures in the clothes, Yong Hyun will use his phone to take the pictures. He and Maria look the most serious about where to do it, thinking light, position and background are important for a good shot. Hannah would just stand by a wall and get it over with, but she likes this since it gives them a chance to take a walk outside. They haven’t gotten to do that during this trip. They stay on small streets, alleys where there aren’t any people. The sun got out around noon, the sky is clearing up and the air is hot like summer. “This is a great place!” Maria bursts out, moving her hands to picture it in front of her, bursting out with ideas of how to do it and she stands ready to get her pictures taken. Waiting for instructions, Hannah leans against a railing that leads to a basketball court. It’s a small place between buildings but the sun is shining down so the light is good. She picks up her phone to look at the time, glancing over at Maria who is doing the most impressive poses with her whole body, amusing the guards that are not used to her. Hannah smiles and puts her phone up a bit to take pictures of their stylist and Maria. They work well together. “Baby, get over here!” Maria calls out and waves her hand to have a partner posing in front of the colourful wall. Hannah pushes herself away from the railing, grimacing when putting her phone in her back pocket when getting up next to Maria. The leader puts her arm on Hannah’s shoulder, taller than Hannah and easily putting on a good pose with her chin up. Yong Hyun smiles widely at them, seeing the tall Maria pose with a laid-back posture while Hannah is standing in a relaxed position yet somehow managing to stretch her back into a good posture. They manage to melt in with each other, probably because Maria leans on Hannah. “Is this a photo shoot?” Adrianna laughs in delight over how well they pose for simple phone pictures. Maria sends a kiss flying from her lips with her fingers. “Only the best from us,” Maria proudly answers and smiles widely when Hannah shyly turns her head away. “Show us some underwear,” Yong Hyun bluntly tells them. Hannah and Maria both laughs at the order and while Maria lightly pulls in her shorts to reveal the brand name on her underwear, Hannah turns around to lift her top up a bit. Maria laughs at her and Chan Hyo comments that it looks good, just go for it. Yong Hyun still takes a picture, of Hannah’s back and Maria’s front. He chuckles at it, telling Hannah to just take her top of like they do in movies. “As if,” Maria laughs, smiling when Hannah turns back around. with silly faces (which can’t be seen on Hannah since she is in her mask), they both show a bit of their underwear to show off what they are wearing. It’s for fun, that’s why they laugh it off. “Woah, who’s the one showing off here!” Julia’s voice echoes between the buildings and she laughs when coming up to where they are. Maria pretends to lift up her top, though her fitting cropped top is already revealing as it is so she doesn’t actually do anything else than the charade for it. Hannah, on the other hand, copies Maria right after, and pulls up her top for real. Julia and Yong Hyun both squeals like fangirls at Hannah and Maria, the others are laughing at their silly actions. Julia is holding a small camera for a video vlogging that she has been doing for a few weeks. She forgets it often and ends up taking short clips here and there. Now, she has walked around filming the streets while letting a guard guide her to where these fools are taking pictures. Meaning, she has captured their silliness on video. Since she is there, she walks up next to Hannah and Maria to be in the pictures as well. They have their arms around each other and smiles like close friends do, then grimaces and they do weird poses, they act chill against the wall and so on. They take more pictures by the railing as well, having a blast looking through the pictures they have taken together when they head back to the studio. Chan Hyo took a few pictures too, showing them to Julia on the way back. “I’ll send the top five pictures to Calvin Klein so pick your favourites,” Yong Hyun tells them. Hannah shows it to one of the guards, asking him to pick one of two. She smiles prettily when seeing him hesitate, telling him that she doesn’t have to but Maria butts in, telling him he has to answer. Going back to the studio, they keep on learning the choreography and positions. Between practicing, they talk about the song they are practicing. When will it be released? At the end of this year or the start of 2018? Everyone in the room are curious about that. SM Entertainment are planning how 5 Pieces’ future, how to match tours with album releases, how to match Korean activities with international ones. Their discussion goes wild when they get in on how they want to do. The song [Be My Baby] is not Hannah’s favourite but it has been chosen as the title for 5 Pieces’ next Korean album. The details are still discussed but since the ladies are learning the choreography, it feels like their Korean comeback is near. “You already have American shows lining up for your comeback,” Adrianna happily tells the ladies while they are discussing. “When you release something in Korea, I think they will want you to go on some shows here in the US as well.” “Performing [Be My Baby] on American TV,” Emelia chuckles, sitting on the chill floor. “Did you see the outfits they want us to wear? We’ll look like dolls.” “We’ll look good,” Maria defends the clothes, “Trust in Yong Hyun Oppa.” Their stylists aren’t in the practice-room with them. Emelia smiles at Maria’s words, saying she trusts him, she just doesn’t trust the agency. “Either way, the sooner we are back on the stage the happier I’ll be,” Carolina comments from the corner and one of the dancers asks when she was on the stage last time. They are having this discussion in English. “I can’t remember… it’s been too long.” “5 Pieces’ last concert was over a year ago, September 1st,” Emelia tells him, seeing their expressions show that it is a long, long time. “But we have been on stage together just recently, we’re promoting in Japan, you know.” “And we’re having a concert in a few weeks,” Hannah gladly adds. Maria moves her arms to show how happy she is for that. “Should we go through the choreography again?” the choreographer asks, getting on his feet. Carolina gives out a loud sound to complain, muttering that her stomach hurts. She has said it throughout the whole day, not eating much while the ladies have concluded that she just wants to go back home. She does well once they are practicing but when they have breaks, she puts her hands to her stomach and complains one way or another. It is fun to see though, at least that is what Emelia says. Because when practicing, the steps are bright and jumpy and Carolina has no problem to laugh and move around brightly.   After having dinner, the ladies are sent to their hotel, being told to stay there out of safety reasons. Hannah and Maria are both being lazy in the bed, talking and checking SNS, Maria texting her girlfriend and waiting to call while Hannah picks up her laptop to go through some mails about her up-coming book. It knocks on the door but neither reacts to it. Then it knocks again and Julia asks from the other side if they are ignoring her. Hannah glances at Maria to see she is not going to react at Julia, and that means Hannah puts her laptop to the side to go open the door. Julia is standing with a bright smile when the door is opened, filming with a small camera on a stick in her hand. She has changed into a summer playsuit, it is in blue and white, making her skin look tanned and she is wearing the same necklaces as she did during the day and some bracelets. She looks like she came for a vacation. “Can I come in to play?” she asks, focusing the camera on Hannah’s face and continuing to smile when seeing the younger lady frown at her. “Sure…” Hannah mumbles and takes a step to the side. “We’re not doing anything fun though.” “That’s alright. Anywhere is better than my room. Carolina is sick,” Julia explains. Turned out that Carolina wasn’t faking it, she threw up before dinner and has been resting at the hotel room. Hopefully she will be better tomorrow. She has been given medicine and some quiet, they hope she will be better tomorrow for their last day in New York. Julia entertains herself with the camera, greeting Maria who is lying down in bed (above the sheets, fully dressed) and sitting down at the end of the big bed. Hannah goes to sit on her side by the pillow, picking up her laptop to complete writing a mail to her publisher so she can put the laptop away and be with Julia. Before she is done with the laptop, Julia gets on her feet, goes up on the bed and walks over to sit between Hannah and Maria, commenting on how peaceful they have it here. Hannah smiles at her, then keeps that smile when Julia leans on Hannah’s arm to film them both. “One side is working,” Julia comments and moves to lean a bit towards Maria, holding the camera further away to capture Maria’s face that is further down, “and the other side is playing. Both in silence.” “Are you a commentator?” Maria asks. Compared to Hannah who smiles when being filmed, Maria is keeping her expression focused on her phone. “Um,” Julia nods, “I am commentating on our lives for our fans to know how chill we are.” Julia turns the camera when hearing Hannah hold back laughter at those words and Hannah laughs loudly, putting her hand up to cover her face from the camera. “I decided to do a Q&A today,” Julia explains and sits straighter, holding out the camera to capture a bit of both the ladies next to her. Hannah is turning her laptop off and Julia sees it. “You want in? Maria too?” “I’m in,” Hannah answers and puts her laptop on the side, smiling to the camera with her full focus. “I’m not,” Maria mutters. She seems tired, leaving bed as soon as her girlfriend says on the chat that she can talk now. “I’ll go out for a bit.” Hannah and Julia are both looking at Maria when she leaves the hotel room. Julia sighs, nodding her head for being dumped like this while Hannah explains that Maria was waiting for a call – not saying from whom. Julia waves her hand to get Maria off their minds and instead asks Hannah to check her phone. They are going to search on 5 Pieces’ blog for comments, just randomly look through the comment section to see what questions there are. As expected, most questions are about a comeback. But there are random questions as well. Like where they would want to live if they could choose any place in the world. “That’s a difficult question,” Julia says while thinking of what to answer after Hannah has read it out. “Since we went on tour last year, we’ve seen many places.” “Mm,” Hannah nods, agreeing. “And I like both small cities as well as big cities. But … ah, I talked to Emelia about it and we fantasised about living on Jeju Island. It seems like a nice place to live.” Hannah laughs lightly. “Because of Hyori Sunbaenim’s show?” she asks and Julia nods, explaining to the camera that she has been watching Hyori’s Bed & Breakfast and really fallen for the nature and freedom they have there. Hannah understands it, though she hasn’t watched much of it herself. They get lost talking about the show for a while, laughing when returning to the questions. Hannah says she is happy where she is, living in Seoul, but if she could, she would want to try live in London for some time. They go on with other questions, like deciding if they would chose McDonald’s or Burger King (both get thrilled when choosing McDonald’s together), if they like to go out or stay at home more, which season is their favourite, favourite song at the moment, which pet the like the most (a question that both Hannah and Julia pushes away without answering) and they get questions about training, like how often they train at the gym and what kind of training they prefer. “In 5 Pieces, the two of us spend the most time training,” Julia says, Hannah nodding next to her. “I personally prefer yoga and spinning. Carolina says we run around during spinning class.” “Carolina went with you?” “Yeah, she came with me a few times but since she is eager to keep up, her whole body is sore for a couple of days afterwards,” Julia answers and laughs, leaning more on Hannah. “I’ll take her to some easier spinning next time.” “We should all go sometime,” Hannah nicely says and tilts her head towards Julia’s. “I think Maria would like it.” “Emelia won’t go though, her workouts consist of rolling left to rolling right,” Julia chuckles. Hannah laughs, agreeing with her. Julia seems to be getting more comfortable in the bed, sinking down and leaning more on Hannah. “What’s your favourite workout, Hannah?” “Um… that would be … it depends on my mood. Some days I enjoy jogging, some days I enjoy working out in the gym,” Hannah lightly answers. They move on with the questions a bit more before Hannah holds up her hand a bit. “I have a question,” she says and Julia quietly waits for her to continue. “Tomorrow is our last day in New York City. We have been here a few times. Is there something you wish to do here if you got the chance?” “Ooh, like if I could do anything, what would it be?” Julia sounds a bit impressed at the question, glancing up at Hannah with a smile. “Good one. Actually, we talked about it with our staff earlier. To go on a musical in New York would be the best, right?” “Isn’t that what Maria wants to do?” “No, Carolina said it,” Julia answers with a frown. “Are you sure? I definitely heard it from Maria.” Hannah tilts her head in confusion. “Both of them likes musicals so whatever. But it would be fun. Our fans might not know, but we all like musicals. I watched the musical DVD for Les Misérables with Carolina several of times.” Hanna
