BACKGROUND
part one, childhood
early morning of february 14, 1995, park seran, the first child of the park family in busn, was brought into this world. to mr. and mrs. park, seran was a pure gem and they looked at only seran, up until their second child, park jimin, was born the following year. although, yes, seran, being one at the time, wasn't content with being put second in the eyes of her parents, she was pretty glad to have a sibling of her own that she can pester play with when she has no one else to hang with.
as a child, seran always wanted to be a scientist, and that's all thanks to the number of sci-fi movies she'd watch as a kid growing up (and because she thought the scientists were "hot when they talked all science-y", in the words of a ten year-old girl). but being a scientist wasn't a typical occupation of choice for a kid her age, let alone for her gender. so, she was called out for it by her peers. practically every kid in her elementary school looked at her like she was crazy for wanting to go into something that was a more male dominant career path during the time, calling her a female rather than just female; a boy rather than a girl she was born as. but it was all because of the plethora of movies she's grown to love.
despite all the bullying that was caused by her love for being a scientist, she still managed to get by, and that's all with the help of an older cousin of hers who was an artist. she always looked up to her older cousin who was off in america studying to becoming an artist, and she's grown close to her cousin through the years. although her cousin was an alcoholic, most of the time he was locked up in his studio apartment, he still managed to do well and keep his grades up. i guess you could say that her cousin, park sungmin, was her ticket into the artsy lifestyle.

when seran entered high school, she suddenly found a love in film through a video project she had to do for her history class. the intricate details, the timing process— everything suddenly became a love for seran. of course, she still had a love for drawing and painting, but, after a spontaneous history project she had to do, which she got an a+ for fyi, she realized that she possibly had a knack for video editing, too. so, she began doing just that. she spent a good amount of her allowance to get a good enough laptop and video editing software in order to create videos that she wanted to make. she even went as far as recording herself and gifting them to her family and friends as gift. her most memorable being the video she made for her parents' anniversary with her and her brother wishing them all the best whilst showing embarrassing pictures of the family. that's when her love for editing became more evident. she started watching more movies/films, she spent more time outside taking videos/pictures of the scenery— she began to grow a passion for it.

seran currently resides in a shared apartment with ji yejin that's just around the corner from school (walking distance or driving in seran's case). many would think that her apartment is crazy hectic with boxes on boxes of pizza laying around the living room (and, honestly, they're not far off), but both her and yejin prefer minimalism in terms of decor, keeping the color scheme black, white and gray. there are a few containers of takeout scattered in their kitchen and a large collection of movies residing next to their tv, but, besides all that, it's pretty minimal and reserved, the opposite of both of their personalities. it surprises everybody when they first step into their apartment to see the white walls and wooden floorboards with the small patio that overlooks the busy city below.
because seran is unemployed as she only works when she's back home during her breaks off from school in her mother's flower shop, she tends to leach off of others when she needs a small amount of money for petty things, but they're always willing to help her out. sometimes seran feels bad for doing so, but it's all because of spending her friday nights out and spending away. seran vows that, one of these days, she'll fix her drinking problem to better her lifestyle.

only days apart, hoseok and seran are practically inseparable, and that's all because of the fact they're the same age and have similar personalities. they're always in agreeance with each other and always take each other's sides, which may be why yoongi and seran are the ones that bicker all the time, and hoseok always makes sure that seran stays in line and, more importantly, stays sane. hoseok tends to be the one that seran always talks to when she's drunk, but that may be because hoseok is usually her drinking buddy when yejin is too busy to do so. but, regardless of that, hoseok and seran are the closest to each other out of the group, discluding seran's own brother.

the eldest child of the park family residing in busan, south korea, park seran is known to be quite the character. an total extrovert, a party animal and, to top it all off, she's fascinated with the art world. majoring in fine/studio arts and cinemato-graphy and film/video production, it's no wonder she's known as the artist in her small group of friends and family. but even so, seran isn't as wild and happy as people make her out to be. she has her own secrets and inner struggles that she wishes to keep to herself. but when the world goes against her, will she still maintain that bright smile people have grown to love, or will she break under the pressures she's put through?
