ELABORATION —
• reticent because she's someone who has minor trust issues and is timid, she tends to take awhile in order to open up to new people. hayun is a hard person to befriend because of this, but this can be seen as a good thing. how? because she's able to learn others before giving them her thoughts and feelings.
• kindhearted hayun loves helping others and is known to be extremely caring and protective to practically everyone, even if they don't know it. despite her quiet demeanor, hayun is the kind of girl that will do everything and anything to help and protect others, even if it means risking her own life every once in awhile.
• intelligent despite her age, she's extremely intelligent, especially when it's medical related. although she's not top of her class, she's actually number six in her class, she's someone who's smart with both her words and actions.
• timid because of what happened in her life, she turned from a happy-go-lucky teenager to a quiet and reserved one. although sometimes being timid can be something good, hayun doesn't believe so. she's always quiet in school and in class, although she'll speak when needed, and she always keeps a straight face. although she has a pretty face, many will say she's mysterious because she doesn't talk to anyone but dongyeol.
• stubborn when hayun wants something done her way, she'll do everything she can in order to get it done in her favor. when it comes to things that hayun is most confident in, when people think it's wrong, she'll still try to make others think it's the right way.
• inflexible it's the same reason as to why she's stubborn; she thinks that she's right when she believes in the things she says. it's especially evident when it comes to things such as books and medical related issues.

BACKGROUND + CURRENT EVENTS —
• as a child, hayun was always seen as the joyful, hyperactive daughter of the family. of course, her sister was equally as happy, but hayun was on a whole other level of it. she always played with the neighborhood kids. she always played with her parents when they weren't busy. she basically did everything and anything in order to be able to enjoy her life. however, in the upsetting year of 2013, her sister had died from an attempted suicide. hayun never really understood her sister's motives of doing so, but she understood what suicide meant. this event saddened her a whole lot. her sister was always there for her, and now that she didn't have what she called 'sister support', she didn't know what else to do. from that moment on, she stopped playing with the kids on her block and she rarely smiled. if you were lucky enough, you'd be able to make her laugh, but because of her sister's passing, she made a complete 180; she wasn't happy with her life.
• a year later (2014), hayun had found a letter tucked into her school backpack. it was her sister's letter specifically for her. and she found it a year too late. after reading it, she cried aloud in her room. her sister specifically wrote her a letter days before her attempted suicide about how she was so stressed with medical school and that all she really wanted to do was spend time going out and partying. of course, hayun knew that her sister was the type to party rather than study. but her parents wanted their children to go into medicine. in her sister's final words to her, she told her to follow her dreams rather than destroying them. her sister said that she hated not stepping up for herself, and that she wants her sister to be happy, regardless of the outcome. but, because of the letter, hayun never was happy and satisfied with herself. she blames herself sometimes for her sister's passing.
• months after, her mother was diagnosed with sarcoidosis, a rare inflammatory disease where collections of inflammatory cells grow in other parts of the body. at the time, the doctor had said that it wasn't a large quantity, so it's either she had to wait it out since sarcoidosis goes away, take steroids to slow down the growth and possibly get rid of it, or to wait until it becomes large enough for testing. of course, her mother was scared over this because the likely chance she could possibly die is high since it's a rare disease, but she didn't want to die so soon. her mother still had a quarter of a decade to go in her life, and now? she found it all to be wasted. hayun didn't want the same thing that happened only a year ago with her sister to happen to her mother, so hayun was always with her mother through everything.
• within two years (early 2016), the disease spread through her mother's body and has become too large of a quantity for her to stay at home. so, she was put into mokpo hospital's intensive care unit until they could comprehend how it started and what they could do. but because of the large growth through her body, they said that there's a 70% chance that it could last for years. but if it lasts for years, there can be organ damage. when they heard about this, hayun and her father cried and so did her mother. they knew that they were unlucky when it comes to death in the family, but all they could do was pray.
• later into 2016, hayun was surprisingly not falling back in school. her grades were still high, she studied almost everyday— she was still in good shape at school. however, she was doing this in order to keep her mind busy when so many things were happening in her life. she also kept her grades up in order to get into a good school. her sister told her to do what they think is right, and because being a doctor of some sort would make her parents happy, she was aiming to do just that. but that wasn't the only reason; she wants to help others as well as her mother and wanted to be near closer to her father if he was still working by the time she did (because her father is always working).

RELATIONSHIPS —
• father - 정민형, jung minhyung (53/54 in korea) - cardiologist at mokpo hospital - intelligent, loving; overworker, occupied - although minhyung is hayun's one and only father, they're aren't particularly close. it's not because they don't get along, they actually do, but it's only because her father is always busy at work five days a week. the only time they interact is when she's home on the weekends. but even when they spend time together, her father is always contacted by the hospital for work-related reasons that hayun doesn't completely understand. but she loves her father regardless; she just wishes that he could take an actual break from
work, even if it's just for one day.
• mother - 정소이, jung soyi (54/55 in korea) - currently hospitalized in mokpo hospital - nurturing, responsible; emotionally fragile, reserved - her mother was someone that she loved and cared for with all her heart and soul. she was someone who helped hayun through her sister's death, she helped her with her school work— she basically shaped hayun to be what she is today. but once it came out that her mother was diagnosed with sarcoidosis and has to stay at an intensive care unit at the hospital, she can no longer create and share loving mother-daughter moments like before.
• sister - 정지연, jung jiyeon (22/23 in korea at time of death) - deceased - supportive, caring; rebellious, stressed - before her sister had died, they were one of the most caring, most supportive, sisters that anyone came across. jiyeon was always there for hayun and hayun was always there for her. although her sister was on the more troublesome side while hayun is the complete opposite, they somehow got along with one another regardless of their different personalities. but now that her sister was no longer alive to support hayun and be there for her when she needed it most, hayun completely changed. the reason why she never smiles and rarely laughs is because she lost someone so dear and near to her heart all because of stress and suicide.
• best friend - 박동열, park dongyeol (17/18 in korea) - third year student at myeongjoo high - humorous, enthusiastic; attention seaker, annoying at times - although dongyeol is the complete opposite of hayun, they're actually the best of friends. dongyeol and hayun got close through being neighbors and they would always hang around each other's house with jiyeon, even if jiyeon was significantly older than both of them. he's someone that hayun trusts with her whole life and he's someone that knows what to say when she's down. although he can be an annoying at times and always seeks attention from others, he means well and hayun can only question their friendship. but, what the heck, opposites attract — fc: ulzzang lee namsoo / anime fc: kouichi sakakibara of another
