It would have been rather nice if it were possible to change the difficulty that life seemed to have set. Sometimes it would be set at an easy difficulty while other times, the difficulty would be changed to extreme. There were usually answers to each of these difficulties, but the main problem was trying to find out what those answers were. It was just difficult figuring out where those answers were. Wouldn’t it be nice if bullting an answer were the solution?

Just pay for everything then quickly get out of there. That seemed like the best idea, right? Yes, he had promised Daehyun that he would talk with Daehyun, but Daehyun didn’t exactly specify when he wanted to talk. All he said was that they would talk later at his apartment, which could possibly mean anything! It’s a possibility that they could end up talking a few hours from now, maybe a few days, or maybe even a week or two! That wouldn’t be too bad, right? As long as they had a talk, then Young Jae was keeping his promise. Yeah… That sounded about right. A small delay was all he needed to mentally prepare himself for whatever it was that Daehyun wanted to talk about.

What DID Daehyun want to talk about anyway?

Judging by Daehyun’s actions earlier, Young Jae was certain that Daehyun was quite annoyed about something. Was it the fact that he brought up promises? Young Jae did regret bringing up promises after saying that he couldn’t keep his promises, but he couldn’t exactly go back in time and stop himself from doing so. Still, even if he hadn’t brought that up, it was evident that Daehyun wanted to talk. It couldn’t be about the promises, so what could it be?

Was it his actions? Was it because Young Jae had the tenacity to go about and try to pull Daehyun’s attention away from Hyosung? Would it be obvious to Daehyun that he had feelings for him because it wasn’t so obvious to Young Jae that he had feelings for Daehyun until after he kissed Daehyun. Wait a minute… What if that had been a major clue for Daehyun?! What if Daehyun saw through his little charade and was able to see his true intentions?! This was definitely not going looking good for Young Jae and he wanted to continue to stall to the point where, hopefully, Daehyun would forget about their talk.

As everyone began to finish up with their food, Young Jae had the waiter bring them the check. Just as he opened the little booklet to see how much he had to pay, he could instantly feel a pair of eyes on him. Looking up, he soon found himself staring at Daehyun. “I can pay for my own food, if you want.” (DH)

“It’s alright! I got it covered!” (YJ)

“Are you su-” (DH)

“Yes! I’m positive! WAITER!” (YJ) Young Jae waved the little booklet with the check around in the air, attempting to gain the waiters attention. The waiter quickly rushed over, taking the booklet from Young Jae’s hand before heading back over to the computer. Letting out a relieved sigh, Young Jae smiled a bit as he placed his hands on the edge of the table. Tapping his fingers a bit, he shook his leg a bit as he waited impatiently for the waiter to return.

Once he got his card and his receipt, Young Jae was going to run out of there as fast as humanly possible. He would be safe inside of his car, right? Okay, so it wasn’t the best idea he had in the world, but it was better than nothing! If anything, he just had to make certain that he was hidden well enough to the point that Daehyun wouldn’t be able to find him so easily. Maybe he could hide in the trunk until they got home. Yeah… that sounded like a very good idea. The only problem with that idea, now that he thought about it, was that Yongguk currently had the keys. He couldn’t just go and ask him for them. It would be blatantly obvious to Daehyun that he was trying to run away. What other possible answers were there?

“Here you go, sir.”

Young Jae looked up and nodded his head a bit as he took the booklet. Opening it up, he put his card away before he quickly filled out the necessary information. Once his signature was on the line, Young Jae closed the booklet and put it onto the table before quickly getting to his feet. Of course, he did make certain not to hit the table this time… even if the first time wasn’t really him hitting it. “Alright! Well, that was a nice lunch and all, but it’s time that we get going! See you later Daehyun!” (YJ)

Just as Young Jae had turned in an attempt to run away, Daehyun had quickly gotten up from his seat and leaned forward, grabbing hold of Young Jae’s blazer. Feeling the tug on his blazer, Young Jae stopped in his tracks as he slowly turned to look at Daehyun. Although he’s never seen Daehyun annoyed or angry, he could clearly see Daehyun trying his best to keep a calm and forced smile on his face. Maybe this wasn’t such a good idea… “Hold on. You and me should go to my apartment and… double check to make sure that you’re alright.” (DH)

“I uh… I don’t think that’s necessa-” (YJ)

“Ah! No, no! I insist! Let’s go.” (DH)

“I should come too and make sure.” (TF) Young Jae and Daehyun both looked at Tiffany, whom had also gotten to her feet. Young Jae almost hoped that Tiffany would be able to tag along, but he already knew that that wasn’t going to happen. Daehyun wanted to talk to him and that talk was most likely going to have to be a private talk between them.

“Oh, it’s alright. It’ll be pretty quick and, uh… I want to talk with him a little. Some… man-to-man talk. I’ll drive him home when we’re done.” (DH) Tiffany thought for a brief moment, but she soon nodded in agreement. Young Jae’s hope faltered a bit, but his gaze quickly transferred to Yongguk. He was practically pleading for assistance from Yongguk, but Yongguk merely smirked as he gave Young Jae a thumbs up.

“See you at home, Young Jae.” (BY)

“We’ll leave first. Take care, everyone.” (DH) Daehyun smiled as he slightly bowed his head. Once the others had acknowledged their leave, Daehyun soon began to drag Young Jae away from the table. With one last look towards the table, Young Jae let out a quiet whimper before looking forward. “You promised me, Young Jae… I’m not letting you break your promise.” (DH)

He could hear just how annoyed Daehyun was. Why was it that he was making so many wrong decisions when it came to Daehyun? Young Jae regretted his attempt at fleeing, but again, he couldn’t exactly go back in time and undo his actions. He just hoped that he didn’t end up making Daehyun anymore annoyed than he already is. It would be pretty bad if he actually managed to get Daehyun angry.

Once they were inside of Daehyun’s truck, they began driving off. Young Jae felt nervous with how quiet Daehyun was. Every time he turned to look at Daehyun, he could see Daehyun with his eyebrows furrowed and a slight frown on his face. This was probably the first time he’s ever seen Daehyun angry since the Orphanage and… well, it was a pretty scary thing to witness. It was pretty bad to be on the wrong end of that and, well… Young Jae was on the wrong end of it.

So many worst-case scenarios was popping up in Young Jae’s head. What if Daehyun ended up yelling at him? What if he ended up beating him up? What if… Daehyun ended up killing him? He trusted Daehyun, but Young Jae couldn’t help but think of these possibilities. Why? Well, he’s seen Daehyun become pretty violent when they were kids and although all of those times were to protect him, there was no telling what Daehyun was capable of now.

He needed to shake those thoughts away and just hope for the best.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The second the apartment door was opened; Daehyun pushed Young Jae inside before stepping in himself. Turning towards the door, Daehyun closed and slowly locked the door before he took his shoes off. Once his shoes were off to the side alongside Young Jae’s, he closed his eyes as he put a hand on the door and let out a sigh. He was trying to control as much of his anger as possible, but it was a little difficult. “What do you want?” (DH)

Young Jae didn’t give an answer, which only seemed to annoy Daehyun. Turning towards Young Jae, Daehyun opened his eyes to see Young Jae staring at him with wide eyes. He had that sort of look that made it seem like he knew he was in trouble. It would be a lie if he said that Young Jae wasn’t in trouble, so he didn’t bother trying to console Young Jae. “Tell me what you want.” (DH)

Stepping towards Young Jae, whom took a step back, Daehyun put his hands on his hips as he stared angrily at Young Jae. He hated the fact that Young Jae was remaining silent, but it’s not like he could force the words out of Young Jae’s mouth. No… he had to keep talking and hope that eventually, Young Jae would speak. “Talk to me, Young Jae! I NEED an explanation! You rejected me at the party, telling me that you weren’t interested and yet, before we even got our food at the restaurant, you were constantly touching me with your foot, you kept looking at me when you thought I wasn’t looking, and you faked getting hurt to get me to touch your thighs! Not only that, but you also kissed me back at the party! Do you want something from me? Is that it?” (DH)

When Young Jae still didn’t give an answer, Daehyun let out a frustrated groan as he ruffled his hair out of frustration. Walking forward, Daehyun began pushing Young Jae backwards, causing Young Jae to stumble a bit as he stared at Daehyun with wide eyes. This was it. He was going to end up being killed by Daehyun! Young Jae was so certain about it now. He’s never been pushed around like this before by Daehyun and it was a rather scary feeling.

Just as Young Jae was about to turn around in order to see where he was going, he let out a gasp as he suddenly felt his back come into contact with a wall. He was about to move away from it, but a hand quickly slammed against the area by his head, keeping him from moving where he was about to go. Turning, he attempted to try the opposite direction, but another hand had stopped him dead in his tracks once more. Swallowing the lump in his throat, Young Jae slowly turned to look at Daehyun, shrinking a little in his spot as he saw the serious look on Daehyun’s face. “So… Is this what you want? You plan to use me on the side, is that right? Even though you’re getting married, you want to play around with someone else to add some fun. Is that it?” (DH)

Young Jae couldn’t believe that Daehyun had come to a conclusion like that, but… he also couldn’t blame him for doing so. With how Young Jae’s been acting, it would have almost been a plausible answer. Just as he pulled himself away from his thoughts, his eyes widened as he saw just how close Daehyun had moved in. Unable to say anything, Young Jae quickly shook his head in an attempt to convince Daehyun that that was the last thing that he wanted. Daehyun narrowed his eyelids, almost as if he was judging Young Jae, before he moved away. Just as Young Jae was about to calm down a little, Daehyun began to push him once more.

Once they were inside Daehyun’s bedroom, Daehyun shoved Young Jae backwards enough to cause him to trip against the bed and fall on top of it. While Daehyun made his way to the closet, Young Jae was mentally freaking out as he quickly propped himself up with his elbows. Was Daehyun… going to have with him!? Was Daehyun really planning to do such a thing with him out of frustration?! Young Jae didn’t know if he was ready for such a thing, but once he heard the closet door close again, he looked up to see Daehyun walking over to the bed with the briefcase of money. Daehyun tossed the suitcase onto the bed next to Young Jae before pointing at it. That! That briefcase full of money! Were you the one who left it here?! How did you even get into my apartment in the first place?!” (DH)

Young Jae looked down at the briefcase for a moment before he looked back up at Daehyun. When it was evident that Young Jae wasn’t going to talk, Daehyun let out yet another frustrated groan as he clenched his fists. “You are one of THE most frustrating and confusing people I have EVER met! I really like you and all, but DAMMIT you’re driving me insane! Can you talk for once?! Tell me something that I want to know already! What do you want from me?!” (DH)

“I…” (YJ) Daehyun seemed to calm down just enough the second Young Jae uttered that single letter. Was Young Jae finally going to open up and answer his questions? He remained quiet, his undivided attention on Young Jae as he waited for an answer. Young Jae bit his bottom lip, a slightly saddened look on his face a he tried to come up with a suitable answer. He wanted Daehyun, he did, but… he knew it couldn’t happen. “I… don’t know anymore…” (YJ)

He doesn’t… know?

Letting out a small sigh, Daehyun sat on the bed as he rubbed the back of his head. It was as if all of the pent up anger he had had completely up and left him. For whatever reason, Daehyun just couldn’t bring himself to stay angry with Young Jae. It was annoying, but at the same time, he knew that there wasn’t anything he could do about it. “Then… What is your heart telling you?” (DH)

Silence was shared between them as they stared at one another. Daehyun could see that Young Jae was looking for the answers, though he wasn’t certain where that search would lead him. Sitting up and crossing his legs, Young Jae looked downwards as he tried to see if this was the right answer. “I… I want to be with you…” (YJ)

Daehyun stared, not really knowing whether to believe Young Jae or not. Despite his disbelief, he couldn’t help but believe that Young Jae really was telling the truth. How was he supposed to feel about this? Even though Young Jae had been so adamant to tell him that there were no feelings present, here he was, caving just after two or three days. It was… well, it was frustrating really, but at least he didn’t have to feel that constant feel of rejection anymore. “And… you’re sure?” (DH)

“I… I think so.” (YJ) Daehyun smiled a bit as he leaned forward. Reaching forward, he held onto Young Jae’s jawline, using his thumb to gently caress Young Jae’s cheek. Why was he doing this? Young Jae had simply confessed and all of a sudden, he was acting as if they were meant to be. Still… there was something that he’s bee wanting to do for a while now and although they’ve already done it, Daehyun wanted it to be official.

Leaning forward a little more, Daehyun had his attention on Young Jae’s lips. He wanted an official kiss, one that was consented by both of them. Young Jae gave no signs of rejection, showing that possibly, Young Jae really wanted this too. Daehyun was mere inches away when a thought crossed his mind, forcing him to slow to a halt. Tilting his head downward a bit, a sort of disappointed look on his face showed Young Jae just what he was thinking about. “What about your engagement with Tiffany…?” (DH)

“I… It was something my father came up with. I can become a doctor, but… only if I marry Tiffany. It’s a… business contract between our father’s…” (YJ) Daehyun thought on Young Jae’s words for a moment before a faint smile appeared. Although they couldn’t really be together if that was the case, Daehyun was still happy that… at least, Young Jae had feelings for him. It’s not that Young Jae didn’t want to keep his promise, it was more of the fact that… he couldn’t.

“I guess that… we’ll have to stay friends then.” (DH)

“Yeah…” (YJ) Daehyun pulled away, both males seemingly disappointed with this turn of events. Knowing that they had feelings for one another, but couldn’t act on those feelings, was a frustrating thing. They couldn’t even see if they were even compatible with one another, but there was just nothing they could do about it now. Young Jae didn’t like the idea of them just staying friends. If anything, he could have just run away with Daehyun and never looked back, but… he remained quiet on the subject. As much as he wanted to be with Daehyun, the approval of his parents was something that was also important to him.

“Ah… I just remembered something.” (DH) Young Jae watched as Daehyun moved from the bed to the floor, pressing himself low to the ground as he reached underneath the bed. Young Jae was curious at first, but realization instantly hit him once he remembered what was supposed to be under there. He remained silent, watching as Daehyun suddenly sat up with a sort of panicked look on his face. “Where did I…” (DH)

“I… um… If you’re looking for a box… I… I took it… when I left the money here…” (YJ) Daehyun stared at Young Jae for a moment before slowly sitting back onto the bed. Young Jae could see Daehyun contemplating something, most likely whether to yell at him or not, before a sigh escaped from Daehyun’s lips.

“I guess it’s alright… but you should take your money back.” (DH)

“No! It’s alright… I want to help. After all the trouble I caused you and all of the problems you’ve been through, I… I really want you to take the money and at least help ease the burden on your shoulders. It’s… the only thing I can think of that can help you.” (YJ) Daehyun looked at the briefcase, trying to think. If Young Jae really wanted to help, then maybe it would be alright to accept the money. After all, it’s not like Young Jae took the money illegally or anything.

“Okay… Thanks for this, Young Jae. Really… this’ll help so much…” (DH) Daehyun could feel the emotions welling up within his chest, but he didn’t want to show it. If he wanted to cry out of joy, then he would do it later when he finally received a diploma. With Young Jae's help, Daehyun was certain that he could now try to aim for it. For now, there were still some things that needed to be done. “That reminds me…” (DH)

Getting up from his seat, Daehyun made his way back over to the closet. Opening it up, he looked around for a moment before reaching for one of the boxes currently located on the only shelf from within. Pulling it off the shelf, Daehyun blew away one of the layers of dust on top of the box before he turned around and made his way back over to the bed. He made certain to check the contents before setting the box next to Young Jae and repeating this process about three more times. Daehyun held an embarrassed smile as he sat down and rubbed the back of his head. “These are… a bunch more letters I wrote. I thought that if I wrote a letter everyday, then… you wouldn’t feel lonely, as if you were still at the Orphanage with us.” (DH)

“Everyday?! Did you miss any days?!” (YJ)

“Well… I guess I stopped writing letters when I turned sixteen, so… that’s…  about five to six years worth of letters.” (DH) Young Jae’s jaw dropped as he stared at the boxes in disbelief. Well, it would explain why it was such a large box, but five to six years?! That’s about two-thousand letters! How did he even manage to keep each and every letter inside of these boxes?! “Will you keep them?” (DH)

“I… Wow, uh… I will. I’ll try and read them when I have some time, but wow…” (YJ) Sitting up a bit, Young Jae briefly touched one of the boxes before he looked up at Daehyun. He was impressed by Daehyun’s determination, but then again, Young Jae knew that Daehyun had been quite a determined kid back then. Even now, Daehyun seemed to be quite determined when he put his mind to it.

“We should… get you home now. I have work in a few hours.” (DH)

“R-Right… Hey, uh… I’ll come with you to deposit the money in the bank.” (YJ) Daehyun nodded before the two finally got up off of the bed and began to transfer the items over to the front door. When they had everything with them, they set out to their next destination.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

“Well? Did you read the information?” (DO)

“Don’t worry your little . I read every bit of information there was. It was a boring read, to be honest.” (SJ) Sungjong tossed the manila folder across the table, the documents inside partially sliding out and revealing what was inside. Taehyung, sitting in between the two, leaned forward and reorganized the document before picking up the folder and putting it into his bag. “If I knew Daehyun was this boring, I wouldn’t have agreed to such a boring task.” (SJ)

“Not so boring if it causes pleasant suffering.” (DO) Sungjong merely shrugged as he leaned back in his seat, crossing his right knee over his left. Kyungsoo didn’t exactly want to associate with this person, but so far, it seemed like he was the right person to go to for his plans to go into fruition. He had the cunning necessary to come up with rather interesting plans.

“I don’t exactly care for suffering much. Obtaining my own pleasure, however, is something I answer to.” (SJ) Sungjong looked back towards the menu, his eyes briefly scanning the items that the café had to offer. As they conversed, Taehyung looked from one person to the other. To be honest, if the pay hadn’t been so good, he most likely wouldn’t even be working with these people anymore. It was ridiculous how they seemed to be okay with manipulating another person’s life and eventually, Taehyung knew that he wouldn’t be able to continue along with this. Until then, he just had to keep his mouth shut and continue to do as he was told.

“Yeah yeah yeah, I already came up with a plan. Just keep up your end of the bargain.” (SJ) Sungjong tossed another manila folder onto the table before folding his arms. This time, Kyungsoo picked it up before opening it up and looking through the contents. A smirk instantly came across his face, satisfaction kicking in as he handed the manila folder over to Taehyung.

“I’m impressed. I knew of a few of these, but still, satisfactory work.” (DO)

“Now… about your end of the deal…” (SJ)

“Money will be transferred to your bank account accordingly.” (DO) Sungjong held a satisfactory smile as he leaned back in his seat as he watched the waiter set down the pastry that he wanted. While Sungjong began to eat, Kyungsoo began to revel in the possible plans in the future. With how things seemed to be going, Kyungsoo was certain that he would get his way sooner or later. Who knows?

Chapter 48: I swear this is like one of the best fanfic I have ever read. The childhood part was really interesting and nicely done, I wish you would detail some scenes but that's okay. And now... I don't know where you are going with this but I feel so excited. I am sad for Jin though because for the first time, he found someone important and yet, he lost it. That's so cruel you know. R. I. P Taehyung ~ ;-; Kyungsoo is a freaking bastard, hope he would end up in prison. Seungjong too! Feels like you are plotting something with him haha! Especially since he didn't get his revenge. Damn.... Daehyun will get to suffer again. X) about DaeJae, I love how slow you are making it. That's frustrating and sweet at the same time. And BangHim gosh, I want them to be together officially. But each time something interrupt them. X) is their couple going to be part of your plot or is it not that important? That's funny because I thought from the childhood that Himchan would have ended up with Sunny ~ By the way, that's been a long time we haven't seen her, is she going to make a cameo haha?
I also found it funny how Zelo and Jongup didn't like each other and how dependant Junhong seems to be towards Jongup when they both grew up haha! I actually laughed a lot when they bickered back then and now Junhong likes his hyung haha! Funny ~ Anyway I'm just going to end this review because I spent the last four nights reading these 48 chapters, I feel like I'm not making any sense anymore haha! Well, fighting for the next chapter, I am kind of excited to read it now! Fighting!!!!
