Chapter 47

Jaejoong was becoming weaker, they could see it…the chemo was takinng it;s toll on his body, there were good days and some really bad days. He needed blood transfusion nearly every second week. It was rough waiting to find a match. It was Sunday. Yunho was visiting Jaejoong at home but he had Junsu and Yoochunwith him, the best thing about them all going, they treated Jaejoong normal they didn't treat him like a sick patient but as a friend. When they arrived, it was Jaejoong that answer the doors he held a smile on his face. They planned a movie session, “Come on in… Umma bought a lot of stuff.” Jaejoong lead them in, He had spent most of his morning cupped up in his bedroom but right know he felt good. They didn’t make out of how sick he look thought it was their no one couldn't denie that, they laughed, they joked. Heechul kept walking into the room  checking on yhem asking did they need anything before walking back out. He just wanted to make sure everything was okay, the concerned parents he was.

“Umma…”

“What?”

“Stop that, it’s hard to concentrate on the movie.”

“was i been that obvious....Okay I’ll stop, Yunho make sure he eats something will you?” Yunho nodded as Heechul left to go back to the kitchen. Yunho cuddled Jaejoong in his arms. He didn’t treat Jaejoong like a patient but he knew when Jaejoong needed to rest he was uncomfortable to say the least. He made Jaejoong lay his head on his chest brushing his hand against his cheek making sure he was comfortable. Heechul couldn’t keep away for long by the time he returned Jaejoong was sleeping close on Yunho’s chest. Yunho continued to whisper, “Sleep... you need it,” Yunho smiled the closer Jaejoong cuddled into him, Heechul placed a blanket over him.

" He was really looking forward to you coming over... he told them. They could see the pain in Heechul eyes.

:Bad morning?" Yunho asked.

"a little, no more than usall..... but... he was instented you all come over." When Heechul left Yoochun turned

“Yunho, you’re really good for him,” Yoochun told him, “I don’t think I could do the half you’re doing, and I really care about him too.”

“It’s the other way around,” Yunho told them, “He’s really good for me it Jae that changed me....”

" And me.....

"What to you mean...

"Yunho and I were a big fan of late night partying... I never wanted to go home and Yunho  was just yunho. When Jaejoong came  to korea Yunho stopped partying and since i had no one to go with i stopped to. I didn't know at the time but my Mom knew. Apparently she followed me quite a lot...

"She didn't stop you?

"No she knew why.... she couldn't from what I gathered she blamed herself.

"when did you find out

"My grandfather told me.... he was concern on how my parents were raising me.

She didn't stop you....

"Supose not....

“You don’t deserve this,” he said.

“No one deserves it,” Yoochun replied. “Especially Jae,” He looked to Junsu who held a tender look in his eyes, “I hope I match?” Jusnu looked at Yunho, “You got your test back didn’t you?” Yunho nodded his head it was a touchy subject he wasn’t a match when he told Jaejoong. Jaejoong just smiled he figure Yunho wouldn’t be, he was glad Yunho offered to help him.

“Sorry, I just…” he was staring at Yunho again. It didn’t seem fair Jaejoonh suffering, he was a good person. It didn’t seem fair that he had something that was probably going to kill him. “I’m sorry.”

“You’re not getting sentimental, are you?” Yunho asked him. “Jaejoong hates sympathy, if he had to see someone he loved going through this head want to take their place.” Yunho told softly not waking the sleeping Beauty next to his chest sadly. “Same way we would do the same for someone you truly love.” Yoochun looked at Junsu, he knew what Yunho felt also. They had only been dating for a few weeks it was probably thanks to Jaejoong that they made it to the next step. When they learned of his cancer they realise life can change in a matter of seconds. They were talking things slow… but that was something.

Jaejoong woke up after an hour they were into the movie.

“Better?” Yunho asked.

“Much…” He didn’t like having his weaknesses on display for everyone to see; only those whom he really loved and trusted were allowed to know. “I love you.” Yunho whispered, before kissing Jaejoong, softly as he rubbed his eyes. Jaejoonf didn't last much longer after that he asked Yunho to get his mother a little while later. It was Heechul who saw the boy's out... he aplogised but they all understand

Jaejoong was sitting at the kitchen table with his grandfather his father too, “The Doctor at the hospital, recommended a support group he held a leaflet in hand. It’s late at afternoon.”

“I don’t want to go to a support group.”

“Jaejoong…”

“No, if I have to make friends with people who might not be there next week, that will…” He didn’t want to continue, “besides I have friends and a good support system.”

“I’m not questioning that Jae, it’s just…”

“To see other kids who have similar situation likes this, I did that twice before and all it did was make me more upset and believed I was next. DO you know what’s that’s like?” Jaejoong hated admitting that would it needed to be said. “Appa shouldn’t we go?” Siwon looked at the clock on the wall they had an appointment to keep. Jaejoong got school, Jaejoong got up from the table leaving his father behind.

“At least you discuss it with him, as an opinion.” Heechul father told him.

“I see his point. I have awful memories from it when he was a kid.”

“He’s been through a lot…”

“Yeah most of his childhood.”

“Appa!”

“Coming Jaejoong.”

Over the month Jaejoong’s parent took it in turns, bringing Jaejoong to the hospital. Siwon was glad his boss was flexible with his work it gave him the chance to help out at home when he could. They understood Siwon circumstances and was willing to allow Siwon to take all the time he needed. Jaejoong hadn’t seen Yunho in the last few days, Yunho was studying for exams and need to focus. It was Jaejoong that told him to stay away and that he needs to focus on his studies, though Yunho protested. Jaejoong was given leeway with his studies. Someday he didn’t go to school due to treatment of because he was too tired or in pain. Heechul had returned to doing a bit of home schooling with him. Even though Jaejoong was disappointed in not seeing Yunho, he figured Yunho spent already enough time with him, they couldn’t always be together. Some days seeing Yunho with his eyes was the highlight of his day, and though they’d only spent about two hours together, Jaejoong was happy. It had only been a few days since he seen Yunho and he couldn’t help but think of him, Yunho was a great support through his treatment. Today had been a good day so far he felt stronger that he had in days, the doctor had changed his course of treatment. They still had to work around school, but there would still be days, he’d be back from feeling ill. He was glad he wasn’t hospitalised, getting to go home at the end of the day was everything. And tonight was no different. Since a month had passed since Jaejoong had learnt of his cancer, there was still no match. Yunho had just got his result back and although Yunho was upset about it, Jaejoong wasn’t. He had decided when he learned he had leukaemia he was going to brave everything with a bright smile on his face. Tonight they were heading to Jaejoong’s school, they were holding a parents opening night.

Jaejoong really wanted to go, what he didn’t tell his parent was his art work was on display with a few others of course.

“Is Umma meeting us there?” Jaejoong asked getting into the back seat when his father and grandfather were in the front.

“Yes he was helping Leetuek with some food preparations .” Siwon answered. “You sure you’re up for this we can always stay home.”

“I haven’t felt better in days Appa.” Jaejoong comment made Siwon laugh. “You wouldn’t just want to go because Yunho there now, would you?”

“Appa…”

“Oh please, like I don’t know how my son’s mind works.” By the time they got to the school it was overly crowd, but when people saw Jaejoong, they tended to make way. Siwon couldn’t help but see student pointing and whispering to their parent. Jaejoong was in casual clothes and a beanie to cover in falling out hair, comfort cloth felt better against his skin while he had treatment. He gotten a cataher placed into his chest so they wouldn’t have to keep poking him with needles it lay under his t-shirt taped to his chest.  Jaejoong found his mother straight away or was it the other way round… He was in the hall with Yunho’s mother who was on the parent boards.

“Umma Appa I want to show you something…” Jaejoong dragged them off to a hallway there was a display on a wall that reached out to  them. The painting is rich with dark colours but there was something about it that screamed hope. Heechul’s eye travelled to a plack underneath.

‘The Spirit of Hope’

It portrays scenery of midsummer night under the moonlight by the riverside of Han river. An evocative solemn and dreamy scene of sparkling festive night among the diffused city lights. It successfully depicts a subtle nuance of night, categorised as nocturne painting which is typical with muted tones and hazy colours.

“Jaejoong you did this?” Jaejoong nodded his head excitedly.

“Well would you look at that?” Siwon comment taking a look at it. “It brilliant Jaejoong.” Siwon’s faced the painting, something called to his heart as he looked at it. “I see you admiring his work.”

“Ms Kim…”

“Junsu was showing his work to me a few minutes ago before ditching me again.” She smiled looking at Jaejoong and the paint. “Wish my son had a talent like you.”

“He does,” Jaejoong answer, “he can sing really good.”

“Really?” she was shocked she didn’t know that about her son. “Better get him to sing for me.” Jusnu walked up to them, “Finally came back for me. What this I hear about an amazing voice you have?” Junsu gulped.

“I’m not that good…”

“He’s is, I’ve heard you.” Jaejoong commented.

“Jae, Yunho looking for you,” Jaejoong followed Junsu away, leaving the parents.

“How is he if you don’t mind me asking?”

“Brave… he tries not to worry us, so that just worry us even more. He has good days… bad days… but he’s doing well.” Junsu’s mother heart broke looking at Jaejoong. He looked so ill and frail for someone so young as he watched Jaejoong and Junsu talk off in the destined. “Any news on a match?”

Heechul shook his head no, “But there’s hope, we found a match before, we’ll do it again.”

“Junsu, got the test done, when he told me about Jaejoong I didn’t know how to react. I thought what I would do if it was Junsu…” she felt hurt in her words, “I got the test done too, hoping maybe I’ll be helpful.”

“Thank you.” Heechul looked to his husband. “You may think it silly of me but Jaejoong is the first friend Junsu brought home, I really think they made a connection. thing about him that hit your heart you know.... He noted the laughter before returning to Leeteuk who was chatting with his husband.

“The boy’s looked like they’re having fun?”

“They do, don’t they?” Heechul looked at the woman beside him.

“Yunho know Junsu’s mom?” Leeteuk to his gaze to Junsu mother.

“Hyun Jin?”

“Mrs Jung.” She stammered. Heechul looked to them both.

“Don’t call me that…”​ Leeteuk fine. “I always hated when you did. Heechul, HyunJin used to work as Kangin’s company, we were close. She used to send me sneaky update about what my husband was up to.” He laughed. “I use to visit Kangin a lot at work. Hyun helped look after Yunho while I see my husband.”

“I didn’t do that much I knew how men could be.”

“You always pointed my husband in the right direction when he brought me things home. You left shorty after I had my second son or was it when i was carrying our third.”

“Hmmm… that was so long ago, wasn’t it? I did miss working there but Jusnu was a troublesome little boy,” Leeteuk didn’t believe her, there was something about her words. “Honey you remembered HynJin.​” Kangin nodded greeting her, he smile liked he always did. She was a good worker to him; it was hard to find a replacement. “It’s hard to believe all our boys are friends.” She looked at the boys Jusnu turned and pointed out someone in the crowd to her, she excuse herself. It was Heechul’s eye that followed after her. She was arguing with a man who had his back to them, it was only when he turned did their eyes meet. He looked as shock as Heechul did, but Heechul was pulled out of his through when he heard the sound of panic. his eyes where drawn to where Jaejoong stood, His right hand was lifted up and Heechul could see blood on his son hand. Heechul switched his gaze to his lips that was stained with the same red liquid. His coughing blood. Jaejoongie looked startled by it as did everyone around them. It was Yunho who was the first to react pulling him away from the crows and over to the parents who came to meet them this wasn’t good they knew that.

“Umma…v

“Everything going to be alright Joongie.” Heechul looked at Siwon in the driver seat thinking of that man. It was him… The man that brought Jaejoong into their life.
