Once you were out in the schoolyard, you pulled away from him.

“Sungyeol, can I ask what’s going on?”

He looked away from you and nervously scratched the back of his head.

“…Sungyeol?”

“I’m sorry.” he said, straight out.

You softened.

“For what I did yesterday, in front of Sungjong. In front of you.”

He took a deep breath, expecting you to come back at him with a strategically planned comment about what an idiot he was to do such a thing.

“It’s alright.”

“No really I am seriously so- wait what?”

You smiled small.

“I said it’s okay.”

He stared at you, your smile. He didn’t know how to respond as you stood there in front of him.

“Just one thing though,” you began again.

“Oh, anything!”

“Why did you do that, exactly?”

He swallowed. He didn’t want to sound like an idiot. He couldn’t just come out with something like ‘I like you and I didn’t want anyone else to know.’ But at the time, there was nothing else he could think of.

“I didn’t want… the others knowing about you.”

Your eyes widened, and you let out a small laugh, or... something similar.

“Why not?”

Sungjong appeared out of the cafeteria and walked up beside the both of you.

“I think he likes you.”

Sungyeol gave him a glare.

“Shut up, Sungjong…”

You felt yourself turn pink, and Sungjong nudged you in the side with his hip.

“I… guess.. kind of .. maybe. A little,” Sungyeol laughed nervously, “I don’t know what I’m trying to say…”

“He’s trying to say that he likes you.” Sungjong reassured once again.

“Can you just… not speak? Or something?!”

Sungjong raised hand to his lips and pretended to zip them closed, then of course threw away the key.

You were still a little too shocked to say anything, so you stood there and looked at him with a cherry-red face.

*But.. why would he like me of all people?*

“Um.. is.. do you really..like me?”  you finally asked.

He looked down and shifted the gravel around beneath his feet.

"Well.."

“He does.”

“SUNGJONG, JUST… GO AWAY.”

You couldn’t help but burst out laughing as Sungjong ran off back to the cafeteria.

Sungyeol was still focusing on Sungjong running away when you approached him.

“It’s true though?”

He looked down at your face, still slightly pink; hair moving gently in the breeze.

“Y-yeah…”

You put your hands over your face, then the both of you nervously smiled at each other.

Sungjong was standing with Sunggyu at the doorway.

“Yeol’s finally found someone he likes, huh?”

Sunggyu leant back on the wall.

“Looks like it. And she’s cute, too!”

“Hah, don’t even think about it, Jjong.”
