Black Notebook

Honestly speaking, Mir wasn't really a clean freak or anything. His room sure was tidy but that was all thanks to either his mother or his brother. But this lone notebook lying just at the inner side of the school gate was kind of bothering him.

The area was clean, there was no other rubbish in sight except that notebook. Someone must have dropped it. Mir did saw it when he first came to school this morning but he was late at that time and was in rush so he thought some other people or even the owner himself would have picked it up from the ground. But he was wrong. The bell had rung. Students all had filed home, except final year senior, yet the book was still untouched.

Maybe he should pick it up and gave it to the teacher. Mir bent down and his finger almost touched the book when he heard his name being called out.

"Mirreu. Sorry we're late. Lizzy here insisted on fixing her make up." Sanghyun came running while Lizzy and Nicole jogged just behind him.

Mir chuckled when he saw Lizzy angrily tripped Sanghyun for telling Mir about some useless info and walked straight to Mir.

"So... Where are we going first?" Mir asked excitedly. He was new in town. Sure he had came to Seoul a few times before but not this area. When Lizzy offered to show him around after school, he had nodded furiously with wide sunshine smile, earning a soft pat on his head from Sanghyun.

"Come. How about, the closest mall first. There's a new movie I want to watch and about the ticket, leave that to this unni. Unni will pay for you." Lizzy joked and slung her arm around Mir.

"Unni?" Mir chuckled. "Very legit. Stop trying to make me into a girl- Oh wait." Mir stopped when Lizzy started to tug him, earning a questioning look from his three friends. "That book." Mir trailed his eyes to the black notebook and tried to bend over to take the book only to be harshly pulled back by Lizzy, making him almost stumbled backwards.

"Don't!" Lizzy and Nicole screamed in the same time.
Before Mir could even winced at the loud high-pitch voices that stabbed his ears, Sanghyun decided to join in.

"Don't touch it!" Sanghyun warned with voice just as high and as shrilly as the other two girls. He suddenly was already standing in front of Mir, towering over the shorter boy.

"Wha-" Mir had his mouth opened like a fish gaping for air at the sudden aggressiveness his friends were showing and took at least half a minute to compose himself back. A frown slowly made up on his face. "Okay... I won't. What's the big deal anyway?"

Lizzy opened to answer but was stopped.

"What are you guys still doing here?" Suddenly, a deep voice interrupted and all four of them turned around to the direction of the voice. A student, Mir knew as the senior and recognized him from where he had bumped into the senior while he and Sanghyun went to the PE class this morning. Seungho...

"Oh..." Mir just made a small noise of recognition and bowed politely to the senior student.

"Seungho hyung. We're just about to leave." Sanghyun informed and smiled nervously when Seungho's sharp eyes trailed towards the black notebook lying close to Mir's feet. His eyes snapped back to Mir and Mir flinched back in response. Seungho sure got some scary dark eyes.

"Then what are you waiting for? Go!" Seungho snarled in a low tone and Sanghyun was the first to scramble away, pulling Nicole and Lizzy with him.

Mir was a second late as he saw from the corner of his eyes, someone was watching them from behind one of the pillars of the school building, just a few meters behind Seungho. Looks young like a student yet he wasn't wearing uniform. One thing attracted Mir was the scar on the boy's temple.

Mir glanced once again over his shoulder while chasing after Sanghyun and the others only to frown at the now empty spot. Only Seungho was there, standing with his arms crossed in front of his chest. Maybe he saw wrong. Maybe the light and shadow was making him seeing thing or maybe it was just one of the teachers. But something... Something made the hair on his nape stood up.

💞💞💞💞💞

The four friends settled down in one of the cafe in the huge mall. Nicole was whining on how she missed eating the cake in this shop after her continuous two months diet so they all go along with her.

"So... What was that all about?" Mir asked, sipping on his sweet beverages. He looked back and forth between the three others, expecting an immediate answer.

Sanghyun was the first one to react as he leaned forward on the table and cleared his throat. "You see..." He started calmly. "You can't touch that book. There is a story about that book." Sanghyun faced darkened as he continued but blinked confusedly when Mir snorted in response.

Mir leaned back in his seat, bringing together his chocolate smoothies. "So... Another ghost story in school? You know what. I never believe such stories. Nonsense."

Nicole frowned at Mir. "Mirreu-ya. You shouldn't say that and listen to the story first." She stated gently but firmly.
Mir exhaled. "Fine. Go on."

"Seungho hyung just now is actually my cousin. He wasn't always hot tempered like that. But these days, he just... Changed. Not that I can't understand why." Sanghyun informed. That start actually gained Mir's interest. "Seungho hyung has a best friend. Well.... Had. His name is Byunghee or as we call him at school, GO. GO was the owner of the book."

Was? Mir's brows pulled together. This story really is different from any typical school ghost story that usually just involved fictional characters that could never be proven even exist in the first place. Mir leaned forward with his eyes focused on Sanghyun.

"Seungho hyung and GO hyung fought three months ago. No one knows why. I can't even think of a reason. I mean, they had been bestfriend since they were in kindergarten. They never fought that seriously before. But somehow they did. For some reason. They didn't even talk to each other anymore. No one have guts to meddle. They were basically a walking fire and would yell at anyone who tried to mention about their friendship. Even me. And one night, just a month ago..." Sanghyun trailed off and sipped on his yogurt drink.

"Yah. Stop with the suspense." Mir whined like a kid because he was totally hooked by now.

Sanghyun choked on his drink and had a long bout of cough with Nicole patting his back a bit hard, so Mir turned towards Lizzy, asking her to continue in Sanghyun's stead. Lizzy shrugged and continued for Sanghyun.

"That night a month ago, the senior had a prep class for final exam until eleven at night. But Sanghyun stayed behind too for detention. Sanghyun was trying to find Seungho sunbae to walk back home together only to find Seungho sunbae was kneeling by the roadside just outside the school gate. Holding GO sunbae in a pool of blood."

"What? Did Seungho kill GO?" Mir squeaked in surprise.

Lizzy pouted. "Let me finish first!" Mir nodded with a sheepish grin. "It was a hit and run. The car was never found until now. Seungho sunbae apparently not a witness since he found GO sunbae when GO sunbae already in the pool of blood by the gate. There's only CCTV near the area can be used as prove. But the car is a stolen car so it complicate the case. Police still searching but we haven't heard any recent news from them. Anyway, back to the notebook. GO sunbae's bag thrown back past the gate into the school and the notebook somehow slipped out of the bag in the event. The teacher did pick up the bag and return it to GO's family but the book was missed."

"And when a senior student who is also their classmate noticed the book and picked it up, she just screamed her head off and fainted. When she came to, she kept saying ghost and kept muttering GO's name. It was scary and all with her face pale and terribly terrified. The book originally fall in the small bonzai next to the school gate but when she picked it up, and scream, she kind of throw it to its place now. On the ground. Nobody touch it after that." Sanghyun continued for Lizzy.

"So... The ghost is GO?" Mir asked for confirmation.

"That's what she said." Lizzy replied and both Sanghyun and Nicole nodded.

"She transfered school the week after." Nicole added.

"Ayy... I heard she went into asylum for getting scared out of her sanity seeing his dead friend." Lizzy voiced out.

Mir hummed and crossed his hands. His drink had long finished and they were already ready to go to the next floor to watch a movie. Letting Lizzy paid for him like the girl had insisted as a friendship gift, and Mir also kept in his mind to buy something for three of them, Mir waited for a while before he continued to question Sanghyun.

"So... What about his parents? They must be upset hearing this kind of rumor of their dead son coming back as a ghost." Mir stated, feeling slight sense of sympathy. He definitely wouldn't like it if there were rumor about his dead father become a ghost, so he could definitely relate to GO's family.

"Well... There is this thing actually. That leave holes in the story." Mir rose his brow at Sanghyun's sentence and kept listening while they started walking towards the cinema. "The next day after the night of that accident happened, the doctor declared GO hyung fall into coma and was really critical and that there was no more hope. His parents are divorced. GO lived with his mother but his mother had a bit of financial problem. So, you can just imagine how his mother had to deal with the hospital bill and all. So, his mother sent GO to America. To his father. Then his mother moved away from Seoul without even a word to anyone and disappeared. We totally lost contact with her and GO but we did hear people spreading rumors that GO hyung died a week after he was in Amerika."

Mir nodded but obviously wasn't satisfied with something. He wasn't satisfied with just 'rumors'. He didn't probe further though...

Chapter 40: I wish you would continue this at least for epilogue maybe... this is really great but this still felt incomplete for me... and it's kinda unfair for byunghee to get hate from others since he doesn't remember a thing, if only they knew what he feels...
I hope you'll make epilogue or sequel for this...
