Black Notebook

As his eyes slowly trailed down to the distracting black object in Seungho's hand, all Mir could do was releasing a small quiet gasp. When- Why- How exactly Seungho got his hand on GO's diary. Then, as if a light bulb suddenly lit up in the back of his head, Mir remembered how Sanghyun told him Seungho was the one returning his backpack the day Mir collapsed.

Mir grimaced and cursed himself mentally for being so careless with someone else's belonging. GO would be mad at him. Wouldn't he? Mir stole a glance at GO but GO's eyes were only focused on Seungho who in turn had his eyes glued on Mir. Mir sighed. What kind of situation is this?

"Why was this in your bag?" Seungho finally asked, breaking the silence.

Mir's eyes flickered back to Seungho. In all honesty, he couldn't translate the meaning behind the look in Seungho's eyes. It was sort of a mixture of sadness, anger, but most of it, curiosity. "I... Uhm... I was just..." Mir bit his own lips. He gave up. How would he explain this? Last time he did, he almost got thrown into psychiatric ward by his own brother.

"What do you know about GO?" Seungho continued asking even with the lack of answer from Mir.

"Urm... A little bit of this and that." Mir mumbled out, eyes stuck to his own shoes.

"And what is 'this' and 'that'?" Seungho's eyes narrowed.

Mir glanced at Seungho before his eyes trailed back down to the floor. "Well, I do know that... he was your bestfriend... And... Some other things too..."

There was a silence for a short ten seconds. "Then..." Seungho raised the book right in front of Mir's face, making Mir flinched back a bit. For a moment, Mir thought Seungho was going to hit him with that book. "Have you read this?"

Mir gave out a timid nod. It seemed that Seungho's presence alone could intimidate him.

Seungho took in a deep breath, seemingly trying to arrange his thought and he kind of look scary right now, to Mir at least. "Keep it to yourself and if I heard any rumor spreading around about what was written in this book, then I can't promise you will be safe." He said darkly. He was about to turn around but something pulled him to stop. A question he didn't really sure if he should ask but he sure wanted to know the answer. Hesitating a bit, he finally asked, slightly not oriented, but it still brought up the meaning of the question. "You... When you took this book, did something happened? Anything?"

"Oh..." Mir made a small noise. Seungho must be curious if he saw GO like the girl he heard about before. He felt guilty but he lied. He shook his head at the same time, sending apologetic look to GO. He had his own reason. But as he saw Seungho was leaving, Mir just acted on impulse, releasing GO's hand and caught Seungho's wrist.

Seungho rose his brow at the coldness greeting the skin over his wrist. What's with this boy? Why did he always felt so cold?

"Sunbaenim. Can you tell me about GO hyung?" Mir gathered his courage and never averted his eyes, not even when Seungho shot him a sharp gaze, intentionally or unintentionally intimidating the younger.

Usually Seungho would burst out and told the boy to mind his own business or something about the way Mir said GO's name, even with the 'hyung' behind, he saw something. Something impossible. As if Mir had some deep connection to GO. Impossible. Mir was new here and he came three months after that fated day where GO had left him forever but the way Mir was asking was like he care so much about GO. So much more than any other people who had GO as big part of their life, including him.

"Everything that you know, I need to know. I need this." Mir added. And even when Seungho wanted to say no, he just couldn't. His intuition was whispering to him how important this was. That if he helped Mir, it was as if he helped GO. But why...?

Seungho turned to properly face the younger. His tone softer than before. "Why do you want to know?"

Mir let out a small breath. "It's important to me."

"I can see that." Seungho crossed his arms. "But why?"

Mir looked over to his side where GO was standing at, and got the ghost to turn back to him. "I want to know." GO stated firmly, something Mir had seen for the first time in that ghost. He was really determined. Most probably because now, he had known who's his family, and he desperate for more. For a complete memory of his life. The empty holes piercing his memories bugged him. Bothered him to no end. And most, he wanted to know what kind of person he was during his lifetime. Why did he choose to do such thing?

"Please, sunbaenim. I... I have already read the diary. I want to know more." Mir pleaded.

Seungho shot the younger with suspicious look. "Is this all just curiosity? Because I'm sure there's something more."

Mir took a half step back. Wha- Should he really tell? Ani. No one would believe him. And he couldn't risk showing prove of having ghost around him and have Seungho running away in fear and lost this golden chance to know about GO. Mir shivered when GO leaned closer and told him something. Nodding subtly, he repeated what GO taught him. "I'll buy you milk and coffee. Separately, less sugar and no ice but cold."

The response Mir got from Seungho was kind of priceless. The look of pure shock and later his eyes looked distant. Mir waited there. Waited as he saw memories reeled through Seungho's eyes. Memories of his bestfriend definitely. He waited until a small disbelief smile decorated his pillow lips. "I can't believe a stranger like you could remind me so much about him. Even more than Joon could. At the kendo room too..." He whispered through the end. If only he knew...

Flashback

Seungho was walking towards the school alone, watching other kids running past him towards the school with no interest. Usually, GO would jump on him around this time and would bug him for the whole journey but strangely there was no sign of his friend.

Shrugging it off, he halted when he finally saw the familiar frame of the other boy standing at the far off of the school wall, a black sedan parked near him and two muscular men were talking to the boy. Pulling his brows together, Seungho inspected the scene and his eyes widened when he barely saw the tattoo on one of the buffy guy's arm. A tattoo of a pair of axes.

He kept on watching until the two members of AXE left and GO finally turned and their eyes finally met. GO, as he expected, looked surprised but obviously tried to hide it as the boy skipped down his path towards Seungho, immediately having his goofy smile on and he jumped on Seungho's back.

"Seungho-ya~" He sang song by Seungho's ear. "Morning."

Seungho grunted at the added load on his back, something he felt every morning thanks to this senseless friend of his. "Get off."

GO jumped down and now had his arm around Seungho's shoulder as he kept on skipping through their walk, humming to a song Seungho never heard before in his life. Probably another new song GO had composed by himself or with Sanghyun.

"You know, acting indifferent won't let you off the hook." Seungho started but GO ignored him and even hummed a little louder, greeting a playful morning to every classmates of theirs that he seen on their way to the classroom. GO only stopped when Seungho paused in his step, threw GO's arm off and yanked the boy into a storage room, locking the door behind him. "Sanghyun told me you haven't been meeting him while you told me you have been missing from kendo practice because you are helping Sanghyun with his songs. Explain." Seungho shot his friend an inquiring look.

GO smiled nervously but as he was just about to open his mouth to answer, Seungho cut him off.

"Don't even try to lie. I'm not blind. I saw those guys. What the hell are you thinking, getting involve with AXE?"

The look in GO's eyes changed. The nervous smile fell and he let out a deep heavy sigh. "They saw me in the tournament last week. They wanted me." GO revealed and let himself leaned on the dusty wall of the room. "They offered me... quite a lot."

Seungho had already had the hunch on this because AXE seemed like busy recruiting around young high schooler these days for some reason. He thought he would have been approached too if not for his family strongly related to the police enforcement. "It's not worth it."

                "I know."

                "I'm being serious here."

"Then you think I would get myself involved with them?" GO's eyes turned cold suddenly, making Seungho speechless but only for a moment because Seungho recognized that kind of look. It was small but he had knew GO for long enough to see past GO's poker face.

"You're an idiot. Who know you would just stumble into their nest and the next day you stumble into tattoo shop and get axes tattoo on your ."

GO snorted. "Sound more like you though."

"Smartass." Seungho lightly kicked GO's shin but GO simply jumped back so Seungho's feet didn't reach him, not that he was any taller than the lad.

GO broke into a grin. "Aww, you know me, chingu. Would I, the handsome and honest man get himself involved in such thing? No way. Come one. Let me buy you coffee less sugar and milk separately, no ice but cold." GO offered and finally got the smile from Seungho that he was waiting for. "That's my boy. How I wish you like simpler drink though." He mumbled out and ran away cackling when Seungho tried to smack his back with sling bag he was carrying, forgetting all about what they were discussing over.

That was more than enough to assure Seungho. Because he trusted GO.

But it was wrong of him. It was wrong to believe in GO's words. It was wrong to believe AXE would let go of GO just like that or that GO would never get tempted into the dark world. It was wrong.

Mir felt like throwing up. His stomach twisted and horrible bitter taste was nudging up his throat. However bad he felt knowing the truth, it would be even worse for GO. Thinking that, Mir was reluctant to look at GO but somehow his eyes just automatically found the spirit. The look on GO's face just made the nausea he felt worsened. It was hard for Mir to believe the story because somehow... Somehow...

"That doesn't make any sense." Mir voiced out his mind.

Seungho's eyes were fixed on Mir the whole time he was telling what he knew about GO. He frowned at Mir's words. Though the younger was just whispering to himself, he heard every single word, every disbelief. What do Mir knew? He never even met GO once? What right do he have to doubt Seungho? Ignoring all those thought, Seungho continued. "A few weeks later, GO had been acting weirder. He barely hung out with me or even Sanghyun anymore. He skipped school a lot to the point he had been called to discipline room. And I followed him one day." Seungho took a sip of the drink Mir had bought for him which still left a nagging question in the back of his head. How did Mir knew how he loved his coffee? Only GO knew. Or maybe Sanghyun but that cousin of his never really care about such matter.

Mir continued listening and sat quietly even when he saw GO's face getting pale and the ghost wobbled to the corner of the rooftop, curling there. He needed this and GO needed this.

"I saw him with people from AXE. Trading... drugs." Mir's eyes widened and he snapped his head towards Seungho, immediately had their eyes locked together. "We got into fight. Our first ever." Seungho blinked as there were glitter of unshed tears. "I guess, after that fight kept going on for weeks, GO was trying to get out of AXE but... they won't let you out easily once you're in. AXE send people to finish him off. He made me promise not to tell anyone especially his family."

Mir shook his head. "It doesn't make sense." Mir repeated his words, this time louder. "I mean... Sunbaenim. You're GO hyung's friend. You know well how was he. It just doesn't make sense. It just doesn't sound like him no matter how much I think of it. Why did he got himself involved? How-"

Seungho's forehead creases at the way Mir was reacting to his story. "They offered a lot to be one of them."

"A lot still is not enough. Not for GO hyung at least." There was confidence in Mir's tone, faith even. He trust GO more than anyone. He never could explain himself what tied him to GO this much. It was really strange but all he knew is that he trust GO.

Seungho tilted his head. "You're saying that as if you know him." He shot.

"And you don't?" Mir looked sharply at Seungho. He didn't knew why but he was hurt knowing Seungho was thinking GO had the capability to do something like that just for money. And it hurt more seeing the pain GO was bearing now. And that made him lost his patience and he just... snapped.

Seungho jolted back as he felt how sharp those words stabbed deep into his conscience. He felt like Mir was blaming him for not trusting his own bestfriend. He felt Mir was judging him.

"Maybe you are the one who don't know him. That's why you don't trust him." Mir continued, already standing up, preparing to leave. But just as he turned, fingers wrapped around his wrist and he was yanked back to face Seungho.

Gritting his teeth, Seungho hissed, "Who the hell do you think you are to question how much I know about my own bestfriend. You don't even know him! You don't know me!"

Mir pulled away his hand. "Maybe I know more than you think." Mir spoke out quietly, unbeknownst to himself, his eyes glazed with something mysterious, sending shiver down Seungho's spine. Something...

Maybe Seungho's instinct was right. Maybe there was something not quite right about this boy in front of him. Something between Mir and GO. But, what was it?

He didn't get the answer as Mir just left him there. GO followed after sparing a sad gaze to his bestfriend, whispering an apology despite knowing Seungho won't hear him. But the feeling was conveyed. Seungho palmed his chest and wondered even more. Why did he felt so sad all of a sudden. He felt... empty...

Chapter 40: I wish you would continue this at least for epilogue maybe... this is really great but this still felt incomplete for me... and it's kinda unfair for byunghee to get hate from others since he doesn't remember a thing, if only they knew what he feels...
I hope you'll make epilogue or sequel for this...
