Black Notebook

Mir stretched his back and arms a bit after his refreshing shower. He scanned through his homework. He guessed he finished them already at school despite everything that had happened. His hand stopped at the black notebook that had been hidden in between two of his textbook. He got that book out and stared for a moment. There was really nothing, huh? Nothing at all...

"All of that fuss for nothing." Mir rolled his eyes and tossed the book onto his study table carelessly.

"Who said for nothing?" Mir swore his heart dropped into his stomach at the foreign voice in his room and the cold was stinging his skin. Mir turned around and saw a boy sitting leisurely on his bed, left leg on right, both hands supporting his upper body as he leaned back.

Mir fall back against the study table out of shock, pushing off his bag and books, including the black notebook onto the floor.

"UMMA! HYUNG!" That was the first reaction Mir had. Shouted for help of course. He didn't want to be killed by a stranger who broke into the house. Just after his shout, frantic footsteps could be heard and his bedroom door flung opened just seconds after.

Rain, charged in first, holding up a baseball bat with their mother following close with a taser gun in her hand. "Where? What?" Both asked at the same time.

Mir raised his hand and pointed towards his bed where the strange boy was sitting. He saw clearly how the strange boy chuckled while Rain and their mother put down their weapons and looked at Mir with a sharp glare.

"That's not funny." Rain scolded.

Mir blinked. Wha- Why was he getting scolded? "B-but. That-"

"What?" Their mother asked impatiently as her youngest son stuttering while still pointing towards the bed. Their mother turned and scanned the bed confusedly. "What? Did you see a rat?" Mir shook his head. "Then?"

"What the hell? Can't you see that weirdo over there?" Mir shouted in frustration, stomping his foot like a kid. He was getting even more annoyed when the stranger just laughed out loud while pointing at him.

"What weirdo?" Rain asked, looking around. "The only person whois being weird is you, Mir." Rain pointed the end of the baseball bat towards Mir. "There's no one here."

The stranger stood up from the bed and waltzed in the middle of Mir and Rain. He waved his hand in front of Rain's face before he turned towards Mir. "They can't see me." He said, amused smile pasted on his lips at the expression on Mir's face. Mir's mouth was opened and closed a few times yet there was no words formed as he was too shell shocked by what was happening right before his eyes at this moment.

"Mir... Are you okay? Are you feeling sick again?" Rain stepped forward worriedly and his body just went through the strange boy Mir was seeing.

Watching how Rain just walked past the boy as if the boy was made of smoke, Mir gasped and fall down onto the floor issuing Rain and their mother running to his side. "Mirreu? What is it? Jihoon. Do something." Their mother shook Mir's frame yet Mir wasn't reacting and just looked straight into the middle of the room with really wide eyes.

They couldn't see what he could. Or rather he could see what normal people shouldn't have been able to...

The strange boy approached Mir on the floor with a sweet smile as he crouched down so his eyes leveled with Mir. "You shouldn't act this way or they might think you're bat- crazy." The boy reminded.

Mir blinked when he saw the scar on the boy's temple. His eyes trailed down to his fully black clothes with black long, reaching knee, cardigan. He was the boy that he saw when Seungho chased him and his friends out of the school. He was sure. Hundred and one percent sure. And he was pretty sure there was undeniable similarities between this now normal-looking boy with the bloodied student he saw a few times before. They were same person!

"Mir." Rain patted Mir's cheek. Still cold. He didn't like this.

Mir cleared his throat as he grabbed the collar of Rain's blue pajama to help him sat up. "I think I just have a nightmare. I'm still a bit you know. A bit out of it just now. But, I'm okay now. Sorry for scaring you two." Mir said and smiled as he stood up first, followed by Rain and umma.

"Are you sure, honey?" Their mother asked, cupping Mir's cheeks.

Mir nodded firmly. "Of course. That was just a nightmare. Go to sleep. I'm getting back to sleep as well." Mir literally pushed his mother and brother out of the room and slammed closed the door in their faces after saying hurried goodnight, leaving them speechless on the other side of the door.

Leaning his back on the closed door, Mir slowly gazed up at the strange boy, now standing in the middle of the room, hands on his back, and the sweet smile almost permanent on his face. "Who are- Ani. What are you?" Mir whispered and the boy smiled even wider.

💞💞💞💞💞

Mir crossed his arms in front of his chest as he stared intensely at the boy that his eyes almost felt tired. Him and the boy were sitting on his bed, facing each other in the same manner, sitting in indian style.

"So..." Mir broke the silence that had been enveloping them ever since the boy finished introducing himself. "You're GO. And you're a ghost?"

GO nodded. "Yup. I guess there's no other explanation on why your family, even other people out there can't see me. Because I'm a ghost. And if I'm a ghost, means that I'm dead."

"Do you remember how you died?" Mir asked slowly, feeling like this was quite a sensitive issue. Well... He never asked someone about their death before. How would he know if he hit a nerve? But seemingly, GO was unfazed by the question.

"I can't remember."

"Your death?"

"That too. Actually... I can't remember anything from my past life. The only thing I remember was that I woke up at the school gate a month ago, bleeding and all and when students went past me, they ignored my cry of help. And some even walked straight past me. That was when I figure out, yea, I'm dead." GO revealed.

"Ghost have amnesia too?" GO shrugged again. "Seungho?" Mir piped up when he remembered the senior student with sharp dark scary eyes. "Do you remember your bestfriend Seungho?"

There was creases on GO's forehead as he tried to recall but his mind was totally blank. "No I don't. I have a bestfriend? And you know about it? Aren't you still new at the school?"

"Just heard it from somewhere. And I also heard a girl see you."

"Yea. And she fainted right then and there. That's why I wait until you're home with my book that I show myself. Well, I did try a few times shouting by your ears to call for your attention but at that time you can't really see or hear me yet because you still haven't take the book. You can only see flashes of me sometimes when you're not focusing on anything. But once you touch the book, we're connected in a way. Now you can see me clearly and trust me, I tried my best not to scare the living out of you." GO explained.

"Of course." Mir mumbled. "So... All the cold feeling and chills... And that reflection in the mirror..."

"That means I was close and trying to make you realize of my presence." GO smiled sweetly. "Just... Maybe I wasn't doing it in a right way. Sorry."

"Nice..." Mir glared at GO who grinned sheepishly.

GO knew he had scared Mir quite a lot. Honestly he was quite sorry towards the younger but Mir was his only hope. No one else was as sensitive to his presence as Mir. GO bet that even if other students touched the book, they won't be able to see him like Mir or the other female student from before did. But he admired Mir as well for not easily being scared and was able to think calmly even in absurd situation.

Mir hesitated slightly before he scooted closer to GO. He inspected the other boy closely. When he leaned closer, GO just waited with anticipating eyes only to get poked on his cheek by Mir. "I can touch you." Mir said, eyes suddenly glittered with interest and excitement, like a little puppy getting food from their owner.

"I guess so." GO pinched Mir's cheek with a grin. He just couldn't deny the younger's cuteness, not when he could easily converge image of Mir with image of a little puppy wagging its tail. When Mir smacked his hand away, he just said, "And I can touch you too."

"Your hand is too cold." Mir complained.

GO shrugged. "What do you expect? I'm dead." He looked at his own hands. "But sometimes, I feel warm. Like right now. It's... Weird."

Mir ignored GO's words because it had nothing to do with him anyway. "Why?" Mir let out his rhetoric question and that was when his eyes caught the black notebook on the floor. "Is it really because of this?" He asked, flapping the book in front of GO's face. Mir glanced at the black notebook in his hand as his eyes flickered towards one of the box lying around his room that stored the collection of his manga, one of them was deathnote. "You're not... By any chance a soul reaper... Are you?"

"No, silly." GO snorted. "I'm a ghost. Still don't believe it?" GO asked, picking up the book from Mir's hand. "Woah. I can touch this book." He exclaimed happily.

"Why are you so happy?" Mir asked as he flopped down on the edge of his bed.

"Because I can't touch anything since I can remember. Look." GO demonstrate by trying to grab the headboard of the bed but his hand went directly through it. "And it's a diary. My diary!" GO bounced slightly on the bed. "It will help me finding my memories back."

Mir stared blankly at GO's hands, he didn't really pay attention to the last sentence GO had said. "So... Nothing can touch you?" Mir mumbled and stood up. He picked up his own book and GO was too distracted with the black notebook of his own when the book that was in Mir's hand landed square on his face.

"YAH!"

Mir blinked. He expected the book to go through GO's head. "You can touch it too?" Mir asked, dumbfounded. GO who was about to explode in anger now only looked blankly at Mir. "Okay. Let me think. I can touch you directly. Also indirectly?" Mir took his pillow and smacked GO upside down on the back of his head. It made contact and GO almost fall forward from the impact. "I really can? Cool. But why me?" Mir made a thinking look before he sighed harshly and threw himself onto the bed, looking up at the ceiling.

"Maybe I can touch your possessions." GO suggested, lying next to Mir.

Mir huffed. "That headboard of the bed is mine too but you can't touch it."

"Maybe only the things you consciously and unconsciously allow me to touch."

Mir turned his head slightly towards GO and mentally allowed GO to touch the headboard before he pushed GO gently backwards until GO's back hit the headboard. Okay... Maybe it really work that way? But Rain couldn't touch GO. Oh... Rain wasn't his possession. Or maybe he unconsciously didn't allow- Ugh! Migraine is coming back!

"I don't want to explain unreal things. I'm just going to get a headache doing that." Mir grumpily said.

GO suddenly float into his view, looking hurt. "I'm just as real as you, you know?" He said, floating around Mir to get his attention. Mir wasn't even surprise seeing a ghost flying around him in the air. But he did get annoyed a bit. Like when you had flies buzzing near your ears.

"Yea... Yea... Whatever." Mir waved GO off and turned to lie on his side and saw the black notebook lying in the middle of the bed. "Maybe if I burn this, then I won't see these kind of things." He smiled to his brilliant idea only to gasped when a pale hand with black nails slapped hard on the book and when he looked up, GO had leaned close to him with face white pale, sickly hue, blue vein made trails on his chalky white skin, lips black and blue, eyes red and glossy, blood flowing through his cracked skull.

"You wouldn't dare." The ghost seethed darkly.

Mir yelped and rolled away until he fall off of the bed painfully. "Okay! Okay! I won't. I swear." Only then GO changed back to his usual appearance. Mir glared at GO. "Don't do that! You're going to give me heart attack!" Mir climbed back up on the bed and lied on his back. "I'm going to sleep." He announced. It was already late and he still had school tomorrow. He was sure his mother would have a hard time waking him up tomorrow.

Closing his eyes, Mir was ready to sleep, expecting GO would fly to whatever places ghost usually hang out at and left him to sleep in peace, however, when he felt the movement by his side, Mir's brows bunched up and his eyes were opened again. GO was lying next to him, already snuggled into the blanket. Weirdly, GO could touch the blanket too. What? Now he could touch any of Mir's possessions or something?

"What the hell you think you're doing?" Mir asked skeptically.

GO just peeled open one eyes lazily. "Sleeping. I slept here too yesterday."

Mir facepalmed. No wonder he had a nightmare yesterday. A ghost was sleeping just next to him.

"Mir." GO called and Mir froze in his position. He was actually about to literally kick GO out of his bed and if possible, out of his room. "Thank you." He whispered. Mir shifted and laid back down as he kept on listening when he was sure GO still hadn't finished talking. "I was really lonely this past month. I remember nothing. I can't talk to no one. Well, sure I saw a few other ghosts but they aren't that friendly. When I saw you almost touch the book, I thought, okay, maybe this kid can help me. And you even look in my direction as if you see me. I know you're really sensitive to my presence even before you touch my diary and I am really happy. Now, I can finally talk to you."

When Mir saw the genuine happy smile cracked on GO's lips, Mir had no heart to call out for exorcism. Yea. He did thought of doing that. And maybe some more other things... Ugh... Rain must have rubbed on him. He was being a softie now.

"Will you help me?"

Mir raised his brow. "Help you what? To move on?"

GO snuggled under the blanket until only his eyes could be seen. Even then, they were only opened in narrow slits. Mir couldn't help but found it quite weird that a ghost could feel sleepy as well. "Help me to at least remember." He requested, voice muffled and soon, his eyes were closed without even listening to Mir's answer, not that Mir intended to respond. Mir followed after, not having any nightmare this time despite letting a spirit of dead boy sleeping by his side.

*Brr... freezing(!!!) No... there's no spirit of dead people following me. Just sitting right under full blasting air conditioner*

Chapter 40: I wish you would continue this at least for epilogue maybe... this is really great but this still felt incomplete for me... and it's kinda unfair for byunghee to get hate from others since he doesn't remember a thing, if only they knew what he feels...
I hope you'll make epilogue or sequel for this...
