Twenty – Voiceless Songbird

D.O was sure as hell that it was Kyungsoo’s moans he heard just now after his phone call with Jongin ended. There were also some groans that he assumed was Kai’s. He didn’t mean to listen but damn, his brother was screaming.

He chose to ignore it and went silently downstairs. It’s not like he’s some kid who hasn’t watched yet. D.O went to the kitchen as he played some songs on his phone. Well it was a good distraction.

“What should I eat today… hm…” he found a pancake mixture and decided to cook it. Turning up the stove he began making some.

The song was entitled My Lady and while he cooked he fought the urge to sing. It’s been so long since he last sang a song. Although he already swear to himself not to sing again—Luhan insisted one time in L.A.

There were six round pancakes in total and he piled it up and added maple syrup on it. Okay, it’s time to dig in. His head sways from side to side as he listened to the song, stuffing his mouth to stop from singing. He almost finished his breakfast or lunch… whatever it is for its passed 10 am already when his phone rang.

Frowning, because the song stopped, he picked up his phone resting on the table and his face darkened when he saw his father’s number. He slid his thumb on the red symbol.

What does the old man want right now?

He finished his food and put it in the sink. Now he needed to ask a maid to prepare his bathe.

His ringtone once again boomed and this time it was Luhan who was calling him.

“Hello? D.O! Gosh… why didn’t you answer your dad again?”

“Don’t tell me he called you instead?”

“OF COURSE! You never called him even after your flight to Korea. He has good news! He finally found a d—“

“—Alright I’m hanging up!” he interrupted his friend who sighed in return.

“D.O I’m telling you to please listen to me for once if you don’t want to listen to your father!”

“I’m telling you as well to PLEASE, please just drop this topic, okay? I got over it since 6th grade, dammit, Lu!”

“But D.O—“

“Stop it, okay?” he sighed.

“…… fine, just so you know… it’s already November and you’re not getting younger! In two and a half  months you’ll be eighteen and—“

“I know. Please Lu? I don’t want to talk about it. Ever. Got it?”

“Okay…”

He heard Luhan sniffed on the other line. He sighed for the nth time this morning. Gripping the phone tight, he heard muffled sobs and it clenched his heart knowing Luhan was crying again. “Luhan…”

“Sing me a song in return.” The model suddenly said.

“What?”

“Sing me a song I wanna hear you sing. Even over the phone.”

D.O once again sighed, “okay…” for his friend he’ll sing once again. He went inside his room so no one would hear him.

Luhan on the other line heard the most beautiful voice singing Can’t Cry Hard Enough.
