See How They Fall
Dark Lake Academy“Something’s wrong,” Krystal said, coming to a stop so suddenly that Suho knocked into her.
“What do you mean?” Suho questioned, looking around for whatever had made the shifter stop like that.
“I don’t know,” she admitted, “I just got this horrible feeling all of a sudden.”
“I’m getting it too,” Taeyang nodded in agreement, moving closer to the dragon, “something really doesn’t feel right.”
“Maybe we should go back,” Baekhyun wondered, taking a few steps back.
“Yeah,” Chanyeol nodded, mirroring his best friend’s movements.
“We can’t,” Suho frowned, “we don’t know what’s behind us and I don’t want to risk getting attacked.”
“He’s right,” Krystal said after a moment, slowly moving forewords, “but so are you. We just……we need to get out of this hall.”
“Do you hear something?” Taeyang asked, edging away from the walls, “like……like a hiss sound?”
“Shh,” Suho hushed everyone and they all listened for this sound that the young vampire was talking about.
“I hear it,” Krystal said after a moment, “it sounds…….like…….like I don’t know. I mean, I feel like I should but……I can’t place it.”
“Bomb,” Suho whispered as it clicked in his head, “this hallway is rigged.”
“What?”
“Run!” Suho ordered, grabbing the two closest to him and taking off down the hall, “run!!”
Baekhyun and Chanyeol ran in the opposite direction without even realizing it. They were far too concerned with getting out of the hall before the bomb went off. The ground seemed to vanish under their feet and the pair of fallen fell. Baekhyun made the mistake of spreading his wings and seconds later he felt pain rip through his right wing.
Baekhyun twisted in the air, trying to figure out what had happened. All he saw was blood, feathers, and a chunk of his wing missing. He felt himself start to scream, but before the scream could actually pass hip lips Baekhyun hit the ground and the wind was knocked out of him. He just laid there on the ground, trying to catch his breath and get a grip on the pain he was feeling.
“Baekhyun!” Chanyeol called, looking at the armed guards standing before them, “get up.”
Baekhyun didn’t get up and the guards got their guns ready.
Lina screamed, already knowing where this was going, but no one heard her.
Chanyeol moved in front of Baekhyun and spread his wings wide.
The guns went off and Baekhyun recovered just in time to see Chanyeol fall to the ground.
“C-Chanyeol?” Baekhyun whispered, tears forming as he came to realize what had happened, “Chanyeol, get up. Chanyeol…….no……n-no……..NO!”
Baekhyun charged forewords, his magic reflecting his state of mind and swirling violently around him. His magic lashed out at the guards, slashing them and throwing them around like they were dolls. Baekhyun didn’t stop moving until there were all dead.
“They’re dead,” Baekhyun whispered, “they’re all dead.”
He felt like laughing as he looked at the carnage he’d created. The bastards that had taken his best friend from him were dead. At the very least……when he told Lina what had happened….he could tell her that he’d avenged the love of her life. At least……
Baekhyun started sobbing, curling up in a ball as he cried and wished that things were different. He wished that Hyuna hadn’t died before he could get to her. He wished that he hadn’t had to see Hyuk’s bloody form and Leo and Hongbin crying over him looking so very broken. He wished he hadn’t had to see his friends pull Lay’s body from the rubble of the front hall, placing him someplace safe. He wished his best friend hadn’t died right in front of him, all because Chanyeol was trying to protect him.
But all of those things had happened and Baekhyun wasn’t sure he could deal with any of it.
Chanyeol blinked, trying to process what had just happened. He remembered the pain as the bullets ripped through his body, followed by the feeling of falling. But before he felt himself hit the ground, he……..he’d died.
Chanyeol was dead.
“Chanyeol,” he heard a female voice call and he turned to find Lina.
“Lina?” Chanyeol panicked, quickly realizing that Lina was dead too, “no……you…..no.”
“Yeah,” she nodded, “Taeyeon and I both.”
“Oh god,” Chanyeol rushed forewords to hug her tightly to him, “I shouldn’t have left you alone. I should have taken you with me.”
“Thing probably would have turned out the same,” she sighed sadly, “or you would still have died and someone else would have died in my place.”
“Maybe,” he sighed.
“At least we’re together, right?” Lina tried to smile.
“Yeah,” Chanyeol nodded, giving her a small smile as well.
The pair turned to Baekhyun, wishing that they could do something to make him stop crying.
A/N: I bet some of you are wishing this chapter didn’t happen. I know I wish it hadn’t.
