Chapter 9

 

 

 

“Sungmin, has the reservation at the Shimlal Hotel’s hall been confirm?” Kangin asks his personal assistant while handling her some paper work for her to do.

 

“Yes, Mr President, everything is ready. All that is left is for you to go, and check for the design.” Sungmin informed.

 

“Why? Is there a problem with it?”

 

“Oh, not at all.” Sungmin shakes her head, “I just thought that you might want to check whether it is according to your preference or not.” She explained.

 

“Nah…I trust in yours.” Kangin replies, “I’m quiet lazy to do so too.” He adds more.

 

He looks at the watch on his wrist. It shows a few minutes left till their work done for the day.

 

“Wanna comes and join me with dinner, Miss Lee? Kyuhyun is coming too.”

 

Sungmin sneered at first by that sudden invitation, “No, thank you Mr President. I rather spend my dinner alone.” She refused the offer politely.

 

“Oh, come on. I told you Kyuhyun is there, and I will be there too.” Kangin retorted, more to whining.

 

“More to the reasons to why must I refuse, Mr President. It must be your family dinner right? Why would I be there? A stranger especially.”

 

“Then?  Don’t you have any pity on me?” Sungmin shakes her head, saying no, “Urgh…” Kangin groaned, messing his hair on purpose, “If you are not there, mom and umma is going to make my life miserable!” he said out loud, frustrated all written on his face.

 

Sungmin just laughs at his attic.

 

“What do you mean we make your life miserable?” Kangin tenses abruptly upon hearing the voice.

 

He and Sungmin turn to the door reflectively. There are two beautiful women standing in front of the door, with their hands on the hips respectively, looking angry and dissatisfied.

 

“Umma? Mom?” Kangin stands up from his seat, extremely shock by the sudden visit.

 

Kyuhyun also appears by the door, standing behind them.

 

“Hi, son!” They waves at him mischievously.

 

“What…”

 

“Sorry, hyung. I couldn’t stop them.” Kyuhyun said apologetically, cutting Kangin’s word.

 

“Urgh…What are you both doing here?!” he asks, already angry.

 

“Visit.” They replies, in sync making Kangin’s head boils even more.

 

“What do you mean visit? Don’t you see I’m busy and working at this time? Who told you that you come in without permission?” Kangin talks back.

 

“Without permission? Since when a mother has to get a permission to visit her own son?” Mrs Kim retorted.

 

“Umma!”

 

“We don’t care.” They have an intense eyes-battle with each other.

 

“Mrs. Kim, Mrs. Cho good day to you.” Sungmin greets them, interrupting the mothers-son argument.

 

“Ah! Baby bunny!!” the women run towards Sungmin happily upon hearing the voice and crushed her into a tight hug together.

 

“We missed you so much!” Mrs Kim kisses Sungmin’s cheeks repeatedly.

 

“So much!” Mrs Cho also did the same with more intense.

 

Sungmin giggles cutely by the action. It the same usual routine done by Kangin and Kyuhyun’s mother every time they meet with Sungmin. They will absolutely forget about their sons’ presence, on purpose of course.

 

“What is it with you calling us Mrs so suddenly, Minnie?”

 

“Yeah, we told you to call us umma right?”

 

Sungmin laughs, “I’m sorry, Cho Umma, Kim umma. I sometimes forgot about that.” Sungmin reasoned.

 

“Such a lame excuses~~ but, that what make us love you so much.” Mrs Kim pinched Sungmin’s cheek as she sang the words.

 

“Forget about that, Insook-dear, we need to bring Sungmin with us.”

 

“Ah, right~~ I almost forget about that.” Mrs Cho replies to her.

 

“Let’s go Minnie.” Both the women, held Sungmin’s hand on both side and pull her.

 

“Eh? To where?” Sungmin asks, confuse with the situation.

 

“Shopping!”

 

“EHH?”

 

“Wait a minute, umma.” Kangin stops them before they walk any further dragging Sungmin with them, “Where do you think you’re taking Sungmin away? Office hour is still not yet over.” Kangin reasoned.

 

“Yes, Cho umma. I can’t leave just yet. I still have some work to finish.” Sungmin adds to Kangin’s statement.

 

“Nonsense. Those brats can do it for you.” Mrs Cho points to her sons, “They LOVE their work, right??” they sang to each other sarcastically.

 

“Mom!”

 

The brothers protested. Sungmin chuckles to be in that situation. Eventually, she is still force to join the mothers and sons for the dinner at the famous restaurant. She tried to decline but no matter what she said, it will never win against the mothers. Their words are absolute.

 

“We went to the venue, dear.” Mrs Kim informed, right after the waitress left their private room.

 

“Really? So, what do you think about it?” Kangin asks, for further details.

 

“Almost perfect.”

 

“Almost? Is there something still missing, Kim umma? I can ask for the modification to be made if you want.” Sungmin asks.

 

“No, dear. Everything is alright. It just…” she stops to think, “May be we need to talk a bit about the flower decoration there. A bit.”

 

Sungmin nods, “I’ll take note on that. Just tell me anything that I need to do. I will try my best to make it better according to your desire.” Sungmin promised.

 

“Thank you Sungminie.” Mrs Cho pats Sungmin’s right cheek, “We know that as long it is you who did everything, it will be just perfect, right Kyunghee?”

 

“Absolutely.” Mrs Kim agrees, “She is our favorite daughter after all.” She compliments.

 

“Then, what about us?” Kyuhyun interrupts, sounded sulking, “Aren’t we your favorite too?”

 

“No, you’re just brats.”

 

“So, true…” Mrs Cho and Mrs Kim teased them together make Kyuhyun and Kangin can only sigh with their mothers’ childish attitude.

 

“I really hate this sort of dinner.” Kyuhyun whispers to himself.

 

“Don’t worry, I understand that feeling so much.” Kangin beside him agrees.

 

They order the food for dinner and waits. While waiting, the door suddenly opens by someone.

 

“Sorry, we’re late.” Mr Cho, who is late, comes inside the personal room followed by Mr Kim right behind him.

 

Of course the husband would be there during the family dinner. It is one of the conditions given by the wife for the busy husband. They didn’t want anyone to be left out and also because gathering together all family members is a lot fun than being alone.

 

“Sorry, honey.” The husbands kiss of their spouse respectively.

 

“Hey dad, appa.” Kangin and Kyuhyun greet them.

 

“Mr Cho, Mr Kim.” Sungmin also greets them while bowing a little, as a courtesy.

 

“Hey sons.”

 

“And our beautiful baby girl.” They together take turn to pat Sungmin’s head affectionately and take a seat next to their wife.

 

“Why are you late, dear? We have order everything. Now, we don’t know what you want to eat. And why didn’t you answer my call?” Mrs Kim nags to her husband and brushing away some dust on his coat at the same time.

 

“Sorry, honey. There’s just too much work and there’s jam too, on the way here. We tried to come as fast as we could.” Mr Kim answered, “And I’ll eat just anything.”

 

“It will be our treat, don’t worry. Just order whatever you like.” Mr Cho explains too, holding his wife hand apologetically for being late, “You too, Minnie.” Sungmin nods her head, happy to be given that chance.

 

“Of course you’re going to pay, dad. You are the head of the house anyway.” Kyuhyun said, sarcastically.

 

“Hahahaha…so funny, Kyuhyunie.” Mr Cho ruffles Kyuhyun’s hair, making a mess of it.

 

“Stop messing with my hair, dad! I’m not a kid!” Kyuhyun pushes his father’s hand away from his head irritatedly.

 

“Yeah, yeah brat.” The father teases even more.

 

Sungmin watches the interaction of the family members with a smile. If it is before, it was very awkward to be in that kind of situation but after few times spending time together with both families, her awkwardness has disappeared. Now, she feels much more comfortable with Kyuhyun and Kangin’s family. She is actually feels very lucky that the family accepted her into their circle. It is really weird at first, especially with the fact that she didn’t even notice that the Cho family is in truth belong to Kyuhyun. But then again, she did know the family in a very short of time. 

 

The parents from both side love Sungmin so much. They didn’t have a daughter on their own and both of their sons seem to be single too. They have always dreamt of having a daughter in the family and with Sungmin’s arrival in their life, it makes everything almost perfect. Kangin and Kyuhyun also have to accept the fact that their parents’ love to Sungmin is always more than them. Still, they didn’t bother much with it. They spend a nice dinner together, talking and laughing about many things. They tend to tease each other a lot too. Few hours later, the dinner is finally over.

 

“Be careful on your way back, Sungminie.” Mrs Cho hugs Sungmin.

 

“Yes, Cho umma, I will.” Sungmin answers to her, and hugs Mrs Kim next.

 

“Send Sungmin right to her house, Kyu baby. No turning point.” Mrs Cho warns her son strictly.

 

“Yes, yes mom. I know. I will do whatever you say.” The boy replies to her, sighing dejectedly.

 

“See you again, dear.”

 

“Take care of yourself.”

 

“I will.” Sungmin smiles sweetly to the fathers’ concern, “And, I will see you tomorrow again, Kangin oppa.” She said to Kangin beside.

 

“Okay. Just rest for tonight.” Sungmin nods her head to the advice.

 

She and Kyuhyun then waves them goodbye and walk together to the car. As soon as Kyuhyun sits inside the car, he sighs again, for the nth time that day.

 

“Tired?” Sungmin questioned, though she knows the answer to it already.

 

“So much.” Kyuhyun sighs again.

 

He composes himself before he starts the car engine.

 

“I don’t think I’ll be able to handle them if I stay any longer.” He complained, referring to his parents.

 

“Hahahaha…you’re so funny Kyu. Don’t forget that they are your parents.”

 

“Because they are my parents that I am this tired, also can control my temper. If not…” he trails his words and look at Sungmin, “You know what will happen, right?”

 

Sungmin laughs when she sees the signal send by Kyuhyun, “Yes, I know Kyu. I have seen that temper few times remember? ”

 

Kyuhyun’s eyes rolled by that sharp remark. Well, it is the truth after all. He drives away from the parking lot and make a turn easily leaving the restaurant.

 

“Anyway Sungmin,” he stops arranging his words, “You really do love to surprise me now.”

 

“Me?” Sungmin points to herself, puzzled.

 

“Yeah. I didn’t know that my mom and umma loves you so much. Well, it is my fault most of it. I rarely spend time with them, so I don’t know that they always make contact with you through hyung.” Kyuhyun stated.

 

“Well…they are very friendly to begin with. Also, they’re my customers, that’s how we become friends. And…about me being their favorite daughter, sorry Kyu, I don’t even have a chance to say anything against it. they’re really persistent.”

 

“Stubborn actually.” Kyuhyun corrects Sungmin, “You didn’t need to take their side every time. I know them.” Sungmin chuckles by Kyuhyun’s remark.

 

Kyuhyun also laughs together with her, seeing that smile.

 

“But, don’t you feel strange about my family, Min?”

 

“Strange? What strange?”

 

“Everything. We’re not like any other family, you know. My parents and hyung’s parents were willing to separate from their spouse only because they love each other’s partner. Don’t you think it’s weird on how upside down it turns out to be? My Appa and mom are not together but they are totally fine with each other. They are even best friend with each other’s partner. Even I sometimes forget which one is my real parents.” Kyuhyun explained his side of view long, and for the first time ever to Sungmin.

 

“Hehehehe…it’s not weird at all, Kyu. Indeed, you are very lucky. You have 2 fathers, 2 mothers, a hyung and even a dongsaeng. You should be proud of yourself and family.”

 

“Proud?” Kyuhyun scoffed, “I am always proud of my family. Who else could be so blessed if both of your fathers are the top businessmen in Korea plus with a very beautiful mothers, though they have more tendency of nagging all the time. ”

 

“Kyuhyun!”

 

Kyuhyun laughs, “Sorry, sorry I’m just kidding. They are my mothers after all.”

 

“Idiot.” Sungmin playfully hits Kyuhyun and they laugh together.

 

“Seriously Min, thank you.” Kyuhyun thanks her, once again make her surprised.

 

“Thank you? Why?” She asks back.

 

“Thank to you for willing to be my mothers’ daughter. I know they always make it difficult to handle most of time, but you always there by their side. You have made one of their dreams come true. It’s very special for us.” He told Sungmin sincerely.

 

Sungmin flashes her sweetest smile to him. She feels touch by Kyuhyun’s sincerity actually.

 

“You’re welcome, Kyu.” She replies to him.

 

Truthfully, Kyuhyun is very thankful after knowing Sungmin’s existence in his family. Just like he said, his family tree is really weird. What will you do when one day your parents come home and told you they’re going to divorce. He was 10 at time and almost faint by that news. It becomes weirder when they said they’re going to marry again, but to a different partner.

 

Flashback.

 

“Kyu baby!! I’m getting married!!” Kyuhyun’s mother comes home running towards him and hugs him tight.

 

“What?!”

 

“He just proposes to me! Look! My new ring! Isn’t it beautiful?!” She boasts about the ring on her finger, ignoring the horror look on her son.

 

“Wait a minute, mom!” he stops his mother ranting before it become worse, “What are you talking about just now? How about appa?” he asks in panic state already.

 

“I’m getting married too.” His father’s answer echoes inside his head.

 

“What?! With who?” he demands, frantically screaming.

 

“My ex-lover.” They answer in sync.

 

“Hah?!!”

 

Flashback end.

 

It was a total chaos for Kyuhyun that night. The shock that he received was more than just him losing a game, which is absolutely never actually. He can’t believe himself especially his parents for that crazy decision. He wants to rebel back but eventually, he gives up. His parents look so happy when they introduce him to his new family and even after they are married. They showed him the smile that he never sees before. And, Sungmin is right that he is indeed very lucky because after the new marriage, his life has gotten even better. His family grew bigger and most importantly, he is happy.

 

The drives back to Sungmin’s house goes smoothly. They will occasionally talk about their past memories together, and are actually having fun with just themselves. Minutes later, they finally arrive at Sungmin’s house. Kyuhyun insists that he will send Sungmin till she reaches the door to make sure of her safety. But, upon arrival, he regrets of doing so. Both of them were surprised by something unexpected, exactly in front of Sungmin’s door. There are a bouquet of pretty flowers and box beautifully wrapped with red ribbon on the floor.

 

“Beautiful flowers…” Sungmin compliments as she picks it up, admiring it.

 

“Who is it from?” Kyuhyun asks her, he helps Sungmin to hold the box.

 

Sungmin search for the card in the bouquet and found it, “Ah, Siwon-ssi.” She reads the name on the card out loud, her lips forming a smile automatically.

 

Kyuhyun’s eyes twitches by that name. His heart beats faster as he tried to control the jealousy inside especially with the fact that Sungmin is smiling with just the name said.

 

“What did he write? Let me see.”  Kyuhyun snatches the card and reads the content of the card.

 

“Beautiful flowers for beautiful girl. Have a good night dream, Siwon. Ewww…” Kyuhyun’s face immediately crunches into a disgusted one after he reads that, “Cheesy.”

 

“It’s mine.” Sungmin snatches the card back from Kyuhyun’s hand, “Furthermore, it’s such a cute card too.” She admires it even more.

 

“Okay, okay, I know you’re happy. But, enough is enough. Just get inside,” he takes the house keys from Sungmin’s hand and open it for her, “It’s getting cold. And here’s your present from your cheesy prince, chubby princess.” He said teasingly.

 

Yet, it makes Sungmin laughs by the comments, “I know, grumpy oppa.” she back.

 

“Thank you so much for sending me home, Kyu.” She told Kyuhyun.

 

“You’re welcome. Want me to fetch you to work tomorrow? I have to get there early.” He suggests.

 

“No, thanks.” Sungmin declines, “When will I make use of my car if you and Kangin-oppa keep on forcing to fetch and send me home every time. I don’t want to be a bother, idiot.” She nags.

 

“What? We’re just being concern.”

 

“And, I thanked you for that, Cho Kyuhyun. Now, get your out of here and go home.” She pushes Kyuhyun gently.

 

“I am going. See you tomorrow.” Kyuhyun takes a step away from the house door and walks back to his car.

 

He turns to take a last look at Sungmin. He sees that Sungmin is still there by the door, with a smile on her face. Unfortunately, the smile is not for him but to the flowers and maybe to the owner of the bouquet sent. His heart clenches painfully. The smile that used to only belong to him now is spreading its wings and flies to someone else. And he, being the idiot just watches it, doing nothing to change it.

I’m so sorry for not updating so long…I’m so stressful with job nowadays, and don’t even have the proper time to write…I can’t even think of proper title for this one (anyone has suggestion?) T_T furthermore, my writer’s block has come back to me again…huhuhu

Anyway, Kyuhyun is an idiot here, right??~~ everyone loves Sungmin! It will just happiness for now and for the next chapter I guess, I’mj planning on doing someone’s confession next.
