Chapter 44: Prize

S.M. Spies

Minho literally threw Taemin off of himself before scrambling up and sprinting back to the SHINee dorms.  "She's not getting away with that," Minho growled under his breath, smirking evilly.  He burst through the door of his dorm and looked around.  There wasn't a living soul in sight.  "What the hell. . .?"

The boy walked down the hall to his room, looking through each door to make sure that Yuki wasn't hidden somewhere.  "Ice Princess, WHY ARE YOU TORTURING ME?!" Minho groaned as he searched through the dorm.  Finally he arrived in his room.  A neatly folded note lay on his bed.  Raising an eyebrow, the boy walked over to the note and opened it.

Hiya~  I don't even have to be in the room to know how frustrated you are right now.  Just in case you're wondering, YES.  I said what you think I said.  I'm not repeating myself ;)  Don't bother asking the others where I went, 'cause they have no idea.  However, if you're THAT intent on finding me, I'll give you a hint:

"What the hell are you doing here?!  I found this spot first!  Get out!"

"Nuh-uh, I've been coming here since forever and I've never seen you here before!  You get out!"

"No you!"

"YOU!"

I suppose. . . in a weirdly mushy way, you can call it Our Spot.  See ya, Keroro.

~Ice Princess

Minho stared at the letter intently for a few minutes before finally cracking a smile.  So. . . that place is still there, huh? he thought, well. . . better get going.  Time's a-wastin'.

Putting the note in his pocket, the boy grabbed his motorcycle keys and darted out of the dorms quickly, curiousity filling his mind.

A thirty minute drive to downtown Seoul and a 15 minute jog alongside the Han River led Minho to an isolated crevice that was virtually invisible to a busy city-goer's eye. Minho smiled lightly before walking towards the small niche and pulling aside the tangle of vines to reveal an opening.  The boy stepped through the opening into an almost magical scene.

There, in the outskirts of Seoul was nature's hidden gift to a busy metropolitan scene:  a tiny cherry blossom forest.

Winter had not yet come to an end, but the snow seemed to have skipped completely over this little area of land.  The blossoms were still attached to the branches of the trees, a few petals falling lightly here and there.  This place hasn't changed at all, Minho thought contentedly as he looked around, it's still so beautiful. . .  A glint of metal suddenly caught the boy's eye.  Looking over, he noticed his sword lying against one of the tree trunks.  Minho walked over to it and picked it up, feeling the comfortable weight and familiar grip.  Then, another sound caught his attention:  the sound of a blade cutting through air.  Following the noises, the boy finally found Yuki, practicing complicated slicing techniques with her own sword.  Minho leaned against the base of the tree he was standing next to, simply watching his girlfriend in awe.  Her focused, brown eyes and sharp movements gave her the look of a predator attacking its prey.  Even through such stiff attacking forms, Minho couldn't help but notice that Yuki's fluid movements had a touch of grace to them, even if she could cut a man in two with the power behind her swings.  Yuki's last words flashed through Minho's mind once more.

"I love you."

"Done staring?" Yuki asked, chuckling as Minho blinked in surprise.  The boy coughed once and smirked, reverting to his cocky side.

"What?  I can't stare at my own girlfriend?"

He chuckled, watching the red tint form on the girl's cheeks.  "Anyways," Minho said, chuckling, "I supposed you called me hear for a reason?"

"Don't you know it," Yuki replied, smirking devilishly as she ran her thumb across the length of her blade.  Minho caught on almost instantly.

"How do we decide the winner?" he asked, flexing his own blade and testing his swings.

"The first to be disarmed and left defenseless loses."

"And if you win?"

Yuki chuckled darkly.  "You sit through 'The Notebook' and 'My Sister's Keeper' with Key and Baekhyun."

Minho shuddered.  "Oh my god.  Okay, and if I win?"

Yuki remained silent for a few seonds.  "I don't really know.  You can pick, I guess."

A mischievous smile appeared on Minho's lips.  He knew exactly what he wanted.

And he was going to make sure he got it.

"All right, deal," Minho said, slipping into his fighting stance, "ready to lose, Princess?"

Yuki growled at her boyfriend, not enjoying the loss of the word "Ice" in his pet name for her.

"Oh trust me," Yuki said, her body coiling to spring as she narrowed her eyes, "by the end of this match, I'll make you remember why you decided to call me Ice Princess."  As soon as the threat left , the girl sprang with a renewed fire in her eyes.

The sound of metal clashing against metal rang through the air as Minho and Yuki relentlessly fought against each other.  The fight seemed to be coming to a draw.  Yuki could not break through Minho's defense and Minho was unable to find holes in Yuki's offense.

The air around the two was heated as it always was when they competed against each other.  But this time, it was heated with a new kind of fire.

Minho shot forward with a lunge, which Yuki parried easily.  She countered with her own overhead cut, which was immediately stopped midway by Minho's sharp block.  The pair moved back and forth, locked in a dangerous dance as their bodies connected and disconnected with every touch of their blades.

Another crossing of the two swords once again closed the distance between the fighters.  Minho and Yuki stared into each other's eyes, their swords holding them in check.  Both were panting harshly from extertion, their blades feeling heavier as each second passed.  Suddenly, Minho smirked.  Confusion flashed across Yuki's eyes as she watched him.  What's he got up his sleeve? she thought suspiciously.  Using his strength, Minho pressed down on the hilt of his sword and pushed forward, forcing Yuki to lean back.  Don't break the check, Yuki, the girl thought to herself, keep him where he is.

"ONEW HYUNG?!" Minho suddenly shouting in surprise, looking over Yuki's head.  The girl jumped in surprise, the grip on her blade loosening as her eyes flashed to the side.

The reaction was almost instantaneous.

Quick as a flash, Minho overturned both swords, knocking Yuki's blade clean out of her hands.  Before Yuki could react, Minho had her pinned against one of the cherry blossom trees, one of his knees between her legs and the flat of his blade lightly pressed against her stomach.  He cocked his head to the side and grinned cheekily at her.

"I.win," Minho said triumphantly.

Yuki's eyes widened, the expression in them switching from shock, to disbelief, to complete outrage.

"Y-YOU CHEATED!" Yuki exclaimed, "T-THAT SHOULDN'T COUNT!"

"Mm. . ." Minho said absently, leaning in just a little bit closer to the girl, "but you forget. . . all is fair in love and war."

"Bastard."

"That's not a very nice way to speak to your boyfriend, you sore loser."

"I'm sorry.  I don't respect CHEATERS."

"Please, in a real fight, your opponent will do anything to distract you.  You should always be on your guard.  This was your own fault."

Yuki looked mutinous, but she knew she couldn't deny Minho's statement.  As infuritating as it was to admit, Minho was right.  She had lost.  "Fine," the girl finally spat, "you won."

Minho grinned.  "That's what I thought."

Yuki rolled her eyes, but grinned slightly, having enjoyed the time that she got to spend with Minho.  However, when she made a move to release herself from Minho's prison, the boy didn't budge.  The girl looked at Minho questioningly, one eyebrow raised.

"You haven't even heard what I want from you yet," Minho said, flashing Yuki his famous crooked smile.  Yuki felt her heartbeat accelerate upon seeing that particular smile, but she controlled herself.  Instead, she groaned at the prospect of Minho's demand.

"Ugh, can't we just call it a day?" she asked.

"Nope," Minho said immediately, shaking his head, "we had a deal.  And I won the bet."

Yuki raised her eyes to the heavens and sighed.  "All right, all right," she said, admitting defeat, "I suppose have to sit through those movies with Key and Bacon?"

"Tempting," Minho responded, "but no."

Yuki cocked her head to the side.  "Then what do you want?"

Minho leaned in a little bit closer to Yuki, their faces now only inches apart. The boy's eyes flickered downward, focusing on Yuki's small, pink lips.  "I think you know," he breathed out.  Yuki's own breath quickened in response to Minho's close proximity.  A breeze blew through the small forest.  It wasn't too strong, but the petals of the cherry blossoms were weak.  The breeze blew many cherry blossom petals off the trees, making them dance in the wind as they fell to the ground.  After another two seconds, the distance between Minho's face and Yuki's face could be measured in centimeters.  "But before I claim my prize, I have a question."

Yuki fought to keep her thoughts organized.  "H-huh?" she asked, trying to press herself farther into the tree.  The backdrop of the falling petals contrasting with Minho's hair and face weren't helping her very much.

"You said something to me earlier in the day," Minho all but whispered, his chocolate brown eyes piercing straight into Yuki's dark orbs, "while Taemin was pinning me to the ground. . . What was it again?  I don't think I heard you properly."

Yuki's eyes widened as her mind flashed back to that one moment of boldness.  "O-oh, t-that?" the girl stammered, "t-that was n-nothing."  Minho's closeness was not helping Yuki keep the blush out of her cheeks.

"Liar," Minho chuckled.  Yuki's eyes fluttered for a moment as she felt Minho's breath fan out on her face.  "You certainly said something."

Just tell him, Yuki! the girl mentally shouted at the part of herself that wasn't completely dazed by her boyfriend.  "I. . .uh. . .I. . ." Yuki's train of thought was leaving the tracks.  Minho mentally chuckled.  He had never seen Yuki so flustered before.

"Tell me," he breathed once more in his low voice.

"I. . . I. . ." Yuki stammered.  Finally the girl closed her eyes and took a breath.  When she opened them again, Minho's lips were hovering right over her own, not quite touching, but extremely close.

"Saranghae, (I love you)," the girl finally managed to whisper, closing her eyes once more.

"Nado saranghae (I love you too)," the boy whispered back, feeling his heart practically explode within his chest.

After what felt like eons of waiting, Minho finally pressed his full, pink lips against Yuki's soft ones.

The feeling was entirely new for Yuki.  Her heart felt like it was thundering inside of her chest, ready to burst from the emotion that Minho was attempting to convey through his lips alone.

Her eyes remained closed; she was unsure of what to do.  She simply held still, allowing Minho to take control.  Minho let go of his sword, allowing it to fall to the ground, as he cupped Yuki's cheeks.  The girl reacted automatically, finally raising her arms to wrap them around Minho's neck.  Her lips began moving against Minho's as she gained more confidence, the pair's lips finally molding together as if they were meant to fit each other since the very beginning.

It was a kiss that held no lust or resentment. . .

but love.

Another few seconds passed before the two were forced to break the kiss due to a lack of oxygen.

Yuki breathed heavily and opened her eyes, her cheeks flaming with color.  For a few moments, no sounds could be heard other than the pair's heavy breathing and the gentle sounds of the cherry blossom petals falling to the floor.

Yuki finally understood why the girls treated their first kisses as if they were the thing that they most treasured in the world.

No words spoken could ever compare to the amount of pure emotion Yuki had felt in her first kiss.

Minho was surprised at how. . . different this kiss felt compared to the other times he had kissed a girl.  For some reason. . . it felt. . . special to him.  He never wanted to forget it.

"Not bad for a first-timer, huh Keroro?" Yuki joked, grinning at her boyfriend.  Minho chuckled and shook his head, looking at Yuki's flushed cheeks and now-dark pink lips.

"Not bad at all," he agreed, "buuuut, just to make sure, I need to check again. . ."

A light laugh escaped Yuki's lips.  She couldn't help but smile as Minho once again gently pressed his lips against hers.
