S.M. Spies

Description

Even when countries aren't at war, they are constantly fighting.  Never taking a day's rest, they infiltrate other countries, procure information, and risk their lives regularly.  They are nameless.  Other than their comrades, their deaths go unnoticed.

According to government records, they don't exist.

Their agencies go by different names:

Singapore's S.I.D, China's T.H., Japan's J. and A., North Korea's S.S.D, South Korea's S.M.

Working as a spy for Seoul Military Intelligence is a pretty big deal.  Called S.M. for short, Seoul Military Intelligence is the central military intelligence agency for all of South Korea, headed by the famous Lee Soo Man.  The spies are hand picked.  The best of the best.  The recruits come from various backgrounds, both good and bad.  These men and women risk their lives every day to protect the country's secrets from various enemies, North Korea being the biggest threat.  Each spy has a counterpart; a partner, or a "comrade-in-arms" if you will.  Everyone, that is, except for one:  Bul Yuki.  She has her reasons, but Soo Man has decided that is has been long enough since "the incident".  In a world where danger lurks at every corner and almost no one can be trusted, every spy needs a friend.

Even if that friend could be ripped apart from you at any second.

Follow the twists and turns of secrecy, pain, action, hatred, deceit. . .

and, somehow. . .

trust, friendship, comeraderie, and love.

Foreword

Yuki eyed the man in front of her with disgust.  She was badly wounded, but her fury was numbing the pain.  She had to end this.  The man laying on the floor breathed heavily.  He was very near dead.  He stared at the girl and smirked.  "You can't kill me," he said, "come on now. . . partner."  Yuki flinched inwardly, but kept her face expressionless.

"You're an enemy of the country," she said icily, "I hold no affiliation with you.  You mean nothing to me."

"Are you sure about that?" the man asked.  Yuki hesitated.

"Positive," she replied.  But the man noticed her pause.  He decided to take advantage of it.

"Come on Yuki," he implored, "you can still join me.  Come with me.  We can still be partners.  We'll just be working under a different government.  Think about the possibilities.  Do you think you can get out of here alive if you kill me?  We're both badly injured.  We need to work together to make it out of here."  Yuki hardened at his words, knowing that every word coming out of his filthy mouth was just a ploy.  Pulling at the remnants of her fading strength, Yuki pulled out her gun.

"You never could keep up with Key in terms of acting," Yuki said, "sorry, but I will NEVER betray my country. . . traitor."  The man tried to use Yuki's distraction as an advantage.  He lunged at Yuki from his position on the ground, knife in hand.  Without blinking an eye, Yuki pulled the trigger.  There was a muffled sound.  Yuki had placed a silencer on her gun in order to avoid any type of attention.

Everything was silent.

Yuki attatched a small clip to her ear and spoke into it.  "Mission accomplished.  Target eliminated.  The information has been recovered."

"Well done," the man on the other line replied, "are you all right?"

Before Yuki could respond, the last of her strength left her body.  She crumpled to the floor.  The last thing she heard was the man on the other line yell "YUKI?!" in a panicked voice.

Then the world turned black.

So many different names, yet only one solid identity.

They live only to protect.  They die for their country.  They remain without name.

They are S.M. Spies.
