Missing Youth
Sly as a fox“Oh my head.” Yong Guk groaned. He and Himchan were at the kitchen table, hung over like no one’s business. Youngjae laughed as he made breakfast for them.
“Don’t laugh so loud.” Himchan whined and put his forehead on the table top.
“HAHAHAHA!”
“You bastard.” he weeped, too hungover to do something about it.
“Good morning.” Jina came down the stairs. “Oh, do you guys have hangovers?” she teased.
“I hate you. You drink double what I did and you’re not puking your guts out.” Himchan scowled.
“Stop being a baby.” she went to the refrigerator and pulled out Powerades. “Drink this, it helps.” she handed it to them and went to help Youngjae with breakfast.
“So, I saw you and Zico talking and hugging last night. What was that about?” he spoke softly to her so it was just her who could hear.
Jina looked down and mixed the soup in the pot slowly. “Zico is going to work in Japan.”
His eyes widened. “What?”
“He’s leaving next week.”
“... What are you going to do?”
“What else is there to do?”
“You’re not going to go with him?”
“No, why would I?”
“I thought you’d choose him in the end.”
“I was thinking about it, but then he told me to go to Daehyun.”
“He told you to go to Daehyun? His rival to your heart?”
“He didn’t want me to be here, waiting for him. Just as much as I didn’t want him to stay here and be held back by me.”
“Jina let’s go to the skatepark!” Zelo yelled.
“SSSSHHH!” Yong Guk and Himchan hushed.
“I think they have headaches.” Jongup whispered to Zelo.
“More like migraines.” Yong Guk rubbed his temples.
“So are we going to nurse these grandmas all day?” Youngjae asked as he served the food.
“No, I have plans with Block B.”
“Do they know about Zico?”
“What about Zico?” Yong Guk asked.
Jina looked down at the table. “He took a job in Japan.” she replied. Everyone was quiet and didn’t say anything because they didn’t know what to say. They knew she would be upset because of her relationship with Zico.
“So, when is he leaving?” Himchan asked.
“Next week. He wants to have one full week of nothing but fun.” she quoted his words.
“Do Block B know about this?” Youngjae asked again.
“Yeah. It’s going to be the saddest to see them say goodbye. They’re all like brothers.”
“Do you need a ride to their place?” Daehyun asked. Everyone looked at him as he took a seat at the table.
“Uh, no, Minhyuk is picking me up. Thanks though.” she answered awkwardly.
“Well, I hope you guys have fun.”
Everyone exchanged strange looks and went to eating breakfast.
“So Jina, are you starting school again on Monday?” Yong Guk asked. What he really meant was, ‘You’re starting school on Monday.’
“Eh, I don’t know. I was thinking about dropping out.”
“Wrong answer. You’re going to school.”
“I know, I know. I have so much to make up.” she huffed.
“I’ll let you have my notes and catch you up.” Jongup offered.
“Thanks Jonguppie.”
“And I can tutor you.” Youngjae added.
“Hahaha, no thanks.”
“I’m the smartest one in this house. I am the perfect tutor.”
“Also the most annoying.”
“Yah-” before the usual Youngjae Jina quarrel could start, Daehyun stuffed rice in Youngjae’s face.
“Shush and eat.” he chided. “I’ll tutor you, since I am the one in college.” he smirked and Jina chuckled.
“I’m going to go get ready. GET BETTER!” she shouted to Yong Guk and Himchan, who winced in pain.
“You jerk.” Himchan whined and put his head on the table.
“So are guys going to get me gifts?” Zico asked as Block B and Jina walked down the street.
“Why? You’re moving to Japan, not dying.” Jina teased.
“You are truly heartless.” he sighed and slung his arm around her shoulders.
