Good side
Sly as a fox
Yong Guk was nervous that morning as he ate breakfast with the boys. Jina hadn’t come downstairs and he knew she was extremely pissed at him. Everyone tried to talk to her but she wouldn’t budge. When they finally heard her come down the stairs everyone tensed.
Jina was in her new volleyball uniform and her hair was up in a ponytail. She had an expressionless face as she went into the refrigerator to find some juice.
“Morning.” Himchan greeted with a smile.
“Morning.” She greeted calmly.
“Where’s your uniform?” Youngjae asked.
“In my bag, I have practice this morning.”
“Eat something.” Yong Guk said with a shaky voice. Jina didn’t respond or turn to him as she poured her orange juice. All he could see of her was her cold back.
“Jina you should eat.” Daehyun said in a soft voice.
“I can’t eat before practice, I might throw up. I’ll eat after.” She showed him the apple she was throwing in her backpack. “I’m off.” She exhaled after chugging her juice.
“Want me to give you a ride?” Yong Guk asked as she slung her backpack on her back and slipped on her shoes.
“Hey Daehyun can you give me a ride?” she asked, completely ignoring her cousin’s presence.
“Uh.” He looked at Yong Guk nervously, only to receive a sad nod. “Sure. Let me get my keys.” Daehyun went upstairs and came back down.
“See you guys in school.” She smiled and waved to the three youngest before leaving with Daehyun.
Yong Guk put his face in his palms and sighed. “I screwed up big time.”
“She’ll come through. We all did.” Jongup comforted his hyung.
“Jina is different than all of you.” Himchan sighed. “Don’t worry, we’ll get her to come around.” He placed a hand on Yong Guk’s shoulder firmly.
The car ride was silent and very awkward for Daehyun. Jina was still in her isolated bubble so she couldn’t feel any tension.
“Are you mad?”
“Extremely.” She answered in monotone while looking out the window.
“Well, you’re still blunt so that’s good.” He lamely joked. “You know he didn’t mean it right?”
“He did. He still thinks I’m the delinquent girl.”
“With your past it would be hard to trust you but we’re all trying our best.”
“You guys make like I’m this challenge. I’m pretty easy to handle. All you have to do is make sure I get what I want. I’ve been fighting the urge to go out and do something reckless because I didn’t want to disappoint you guys.”
“We treat you this way because we care. We can’t have you doing something reckless because who knows if you’ll ever come back.”
The two sat there and soaked in the words that were just exchanged. No one said anything until Daehyun pulled up to the empty school.
“Thanks Dae.”
Never had Jina called him by his nickname. He quite liked it as it warmed his insides and made him grin.
