Broken Promise

Something Called Love...

Once in a while she would glance at the wall clock to match it with her watch. Time was ticking, but she could see no sight of her husband anywhere. She jealously stared at other mothers-to-be who came with their husbands and there she was alone, waiting for her turn to see the doctor.

“Where is your appa honey?” she sighed, caressing her stomach while silently talking with her baby. “He promised me…”

As seconds passed by, Ji Eun was nearing to her turn to see the doctor. She knew she couldn’t delay it any longer since other couples were already lining up. “Mrs. Jung? You’re up next,” the nurse called.

Ji Eun reluctantly stood up, heading towards the doctor’s office. She knocked softly and entered to be greeted by the doctor with a wide smile. “We meet again Mrs. Jung.” She greeted.

“How are you feeling lately Ji Eun-sshi?” the doctor began her check-up as Ji Eun laid on the bed.

“I’m feeling quite normal actually,” she replied.

“Any more vomiting, morning sickness?” Dr. Kwon asked.

“I still have those, but it’s better than the first time,”

The doctor just nodded in understanding while writing something in her files. “Is anything bothering you lately?” she asked.

Could the doctor really noticed that? Ji Eun thought to herself. It is true that something has been bothering her lately. Even though she tried to not think about it too much, it would still come to mind. She was contemplating whether she should tell the doctor about it.

“How do you know?” Ji Eun settled on to ask her that.

Dr. Kwon smiled assuringly at her. “I’ve been a worried pregnant mother once too. I can see that something is quite bothering you,”

“I’d rather not talk about it,” she replied.

The doctor nodded, fully understanding her request. “But do not stress yourself with that problem, it affects the baby too,” she advised as she softly nodded in return.

“I suggest that you should start wearing maternity clothes by now. By the way, where is Mr. Jung?” Dr. Kwon suddenly asked.

Ji Eun slipped off the bed and sat on the chair on front of the doctor’s desk. She gave an awkward smile, “He couldn’t come. Busy, I guess…” she answered.

“Nevermind, next time it would be better if he comes along too. This is your first pregnancy, you both have to be concerned for the baby,” the doctor advised.

“I’ll keep that in mind. Thank you doctor,”

Ji Eun tried to call her husband countless of times after her visit to the doctor but to no avail. She has lost contact with Yunho ever since he stepped out of the house that morning. She hailed a cab and headed to her in-laws house.

“Yunnie… are you so busy that you can’t even pick up my calls?” Ji Eun whined, sending her husband a voicemail. “At least tell me that you couldn’t come so I don’t have to be embarrassed by myself.” She ended.

When Jihye opened the door to the Jungs mansion, she didn’t expect to see a grumpy Ji Eun at the other side of the door. “Hey Ji Eun-ah, what brings you here?” she asked, gesturing the girl inside.

“I just came from the hospital for my check-up. I thought I’d give omma a visit. Where is she?” she replied, searching for her mother-in-law.

“Well, omma is out with her friends. I don’t know when she’ll be back though,” Jihye took a seat beside the younger girl.

“It’s much more obvious now that you’re pregnant,” she added, reaching out to caress Ji Eun’s growing stomach. “What did the doctor say?”

“The baby is fine, she just advised me not to be stressed cause it might affect the baby,”

“Well, she is right. Where is Yunho oppa by the way? Didn’t he go to the doctor with you?” Jihye asked.

Ji Eun pouted when that issue was mentioned. She kept sighing in frustration at Yunho breaking his promise. “Yunnie broke his promise…” she frowned.

“Didn’t you call him?”

“I did many times already but he didn’t pick up.” Ji Eun growled in reply.

Jihye knew that Ji Eun’s mood swings are getting the best of her but she had to admit feeling quite mad at her brother for breaking the promise. She was left tongue tied at what to answer to the pregnant mother.

“Unnie…” Ji Eun suddenly asked. “Do you know Park Soojin?”

Jihye almost chocked on her own saliva at that name. “Where did you hear that name?” she asked, surprised to hear that name coming from Ji Eun.

“She is a senior at my highschool. And I just recently knew that she used to be… Yunho oppa’s ex,” Ji Eun mumbled the last sentence reluctantly.

“Does Yunho oppa know about this?” Jihye asked, afraid that someone might feeding Ji Eun with the wrong information.

“Oppa confirmed it himself. But he didn’t say much after that. They look… very close unnie,” the younger girl turned to face her sister-in-law. Jihye swore she saw Ji Eun’s eyes watering slightly.

“Ji Eun-ah, Yunho oppa is married to you now. There’s nothing to worry,” Jihye hugged Ji Eun for assurance.

“Unnie, why did you bring me here?” Ji Eun asked with no slight interest at all with her surroundings.

“I just thought that you need some new clothes. It’s more obvious now that you’re pregnant and with your growing stomach, your old clothes won’t fit for long.” Jihye replied, pulling Ji Eun to the maternity section.

After an hour of shopping Ji Eun’s mood was slightly getting better as Jihye could see a smile forming on her lips every now and then. Tired of walking for so long, Ji Eun requested for them to take a rest. Jihye went to the restroom while Ji Eun sat down to take a breath when a familiar figure approached her.

“Ji Eun-shhi? It’s been a while,” Yoochun flashed her his million-dollar smile.

“Oh, hi Yoochun-shhi. Yeah, it’s been a while,” she nodded, slightly shocked to see him.

“May I?” he pointed to the empty seat next to Ji Eun. She nodded, scooting away to give him space. “What are you doing here?” he started a conversation.

“Shopping for some clothes. You?” she replied.

“Just doing my rounds. It feels stuffy being in the office for too long,” Yoochun answered.

“You work here?” Ji Eun widened her eyes.

“I own this place. But yeah, my office is at the top floor,” he chuckled at Ji Eun’s shocked expression. “Were you always this cute?”

“E-eh? C-cute? A-aniya…” she couldn’t help but to blush at the compliment.

“You’ve gotten prettier since the last time we met,” he added, causing Ji Eun to turn redder.

“Uhm, w-well…” Ji Eun stuttered, she wasn’t used to all the compliments.

Yoochun smiled to himself, amused at how much he could make Ji Eun shy. “What are these clothes for?” he peeked inside her shopping bags.

“I’ve grown out of my old clothes. I’m expecting a baby,” she replied. This time, it was her turn to give a wide smile while caressing her stomach lovingly.

Yoochun was taken aback at her reply. He wasn’t aware of her obvious baby bump as he was too occupied on staring at her face. “Y-you’re… pregnant?” he asked, trying to keep his composure.

“It’s been a few months. I’m really excited,” Ji Eun beamed, Yoochun could see how happy she was.

“Oh well, congratulations. I’m surprised that Yunho-sshi didn’t say anything about this,” he added, feeling disappointed somehow.

“Yunho oppa’s mind is probably all about business when he’s with you,” Ji eun chuckled, imagining her workaholic husband. “How have you been doing by the way?”

“Business, travels the usual. I’m always around people, but I feel kinda lonely,”

“Don’t you have a wife? Or maybe a girlfriend?” she asked tilting her head to the side.

“I used to, but she broke up with me long ago. It’s been a while since I’m in a relationship,” Yoochun replied staring into space.

“It’s not hard to find a new one right? I mean, you’re rich, good-looking, polite,” Ji Eun listed his personalities according to her observation.

“It seems easy, but it’s hard. To find someone as kind-hearted, understanding and sweet… like you Ji Eun-sshi. Yunho-sshi is very lucky and I have to admit I’m pretty jealous of him,” Yoochun just indirectly confessed to Ji Eun.

But of course, being the naïve girl that she is, it was hard for her to decipher that. She just gave a smile and patted his shoulders.

“There, there Soojin-ah. Isn’t there another way to fix this?” Yunho asked, softly patting Soojin’s back to calm her down.

“I’ve tried, I even hired a lawyer but everything is fixing so slow that I don’t think I’ll be able to hold on any longer!” she whined, sobbing into Yunho’s chest.

And that’s how Yunho spent most of his day, trying to console the troubled Soojin. He cancelled all his meetings that day to accompany Ji Eun to the doctor, but he completely forgot about it when Soojin came running into his office in tears. Throughout the day he didn’t notice that Soojin silently shut off his phone, stopping Ji Eun from contacting Yunho in any way.

“Thanks for being understanding Yunho-ah, I’m glad I have a friend like you,” Soojin thanked Yunho when he sent her home that evening.

“That’s what friends are for right?” Yunho just smiled in return.

Just as he was about to wave her goodbye, Soojin leaned forward and pecked Yunho on his cheek. “Goodnight Yunho,” she smiled shyly and closed the door.

Yunho was taken aback as he stood there for a while. He shrugged of the thought before heading towards his car. What he wasn’t expecting was an angry and grumpy Ji Eun waiting for him at home.

***

Ji Eun was pouting yet again while glancing at the clock. She haven’t seen her husband all day and he didn’t even bother to give her a call of his whereabouts. She was sitting on the couch, arms crossed before her, too tired of caring whether the dinner has ran cold. A few minutes later, the door clicked open as Yunho cheerfully announced his arrival.

Ji Eun would usually greet him at the door, but she was nowhere in sight. Yunho walked further into the house and found her leaning against the couch in the living room, looking as grumpy as ever.

“Baby, I’m home!” he announced, kissing her on the cheeks.

Ji Eun kept that cold expression on her face, acting as if Yunho wasn’t there. She stood up and headed to the kitchen as Yunho followed suit. “Great, I’m hungry!” Yunho exclaimed, taking a seat.

One by one, Ji Eun started to clean up the table, ignoring the shocked look on her husband’s face. “Baby wait, I haven’t had dinner yet,” Yunho tried to stop her.

“Honey, looks like I just wasted my time cooking these since your appa is home late,” Ji Eun spoke to the baby while softly patting her stomach.

Yunho knew he had done something wrong when she acted like that but he couldn’t figure out exactly what it is. He stood up and grabbed her hand, trying to stop her. But Ji Eun loosened from his grip and continued ignoring him. He finally wrapped his arms around her from behind, successfully getting her attention.

“Tell me what’s wrong? Please?” he whispered in her ear while giving a soft peck on her neck.

Shivers run down her spine at the feel of his hot breath against her skin. She tried to keep composure while answering him. “You broke your promise,” she replied.

Yunho raked his memory for any promise as he widened his eyes and mentally smacked his head when he remembered it. “I’m so sorry baby, I totally forgot!” he yelped.

“Everybody kept staring at me because I was the youngest and the only one going by myself there,” she sobbed, her shoulders were shaking as Yunho felt guilt engulfing him.

“I’m so sorry baby, I really didn’t mean to purposely forget about it,” the husband tried to comfort her, rubbing her shoulders up and down.

“You could’ve at least give me a call to tell me that you couldn’t come! I can’t even reach your phone and even Dr. Kwon asked for you!” she continued, wiping her tears with the back of her sleeve.

Yunho turned his wife around, saying sorry isn’t gonna make it up to her. He didn’t realize that he was too occupied about Soojin and completely forgot about his wife. He gently wiped her tears and lifted her chin up, making her face him.

“I know I’m guilty and you have all the rights to get mad at me,” he said, expecting to receive his punishments.

“Bad Yunnie! Bad Yunnie!” As expected, she attacked him, hitting him a couple of times on the chest. “You got me so worried!”

Yunho was used to Ji Eun’s attacks, but ever since she got pregnant, her strength has doubled. He even felt a slight pain when she hit him. “Baby, b-baby… ah, it hurts!” he yelped as Ji Eun continued hitting him.

Yunho dropped on his knees, holding tightly to his chest. Ji Eun suddenly stopped hitting him and grew concerned whether she hit him too hard. “Yunnie… kwenchana? D-did I hurt you too badly?” she gasped, sitting on the floor beside him.

Yunho looked up and smirked playfully at her. “I knew you still care about me,” he giggled.

“Yunnie! I’m serious!”

“I’m serious too,” he replied before capturing her lips with his.

Ji Eun kept hitting his chest, showing that she was still mad at him. But she couldn’t help but to be overpowered by his intoxicating kiss. Yunho tilted hs head to the side, pulling her head closer by the nape of her neck, deepening the kiss. The kiss lasted for a while longer before Ji Eun had the courage to push him away for air.

“I’m sorry. But something happened that I have to attend to it immediately,” his voice was serious, deep and husky that Ji Eun could do nothing than stare at him.

“But you shouldn’t be too sad, it’ll affect our baby. I’m sorry again.” he continued, caressing her cheek with one hand while the other held her hands gently in his.

“Next time, don’t promise if you can’t keep it,” Ji Eun sternly warned with a pout.

Yunho nodded softly, smiling warmly at her. He captured her lips once again as she gave in and kissed him back this time. When they pulled away, Ji Eun giggled to herself.

“What’s funny?” Yunho asked, amused at how fast her mood changed.

“We’ve been kissing on the kitchen floor the whole while,” she chuckled. “It’s getting cold oppa,” she flashed her puppy eyes.

Yunho lifted Ji Eun up, placing her to sit on a chair. “What did the doctor say?” he asked, kissing the baby bump.

“Our baby is healthy and growing well. Right honey?” Ji Eun smiled back, softly rubbing her stomach. “Dr. Kwon also told you not to skip the medical check-up with me,” she gave him a deep stare instead.

“She said that?” Ji Eun nodded like a child.

“Jihye unnie will punish you too. And wait till I tell this to Jae oppa he’ll-,” before Ji Eun could finish Yunho was already begging.

“No! Don’t tell Jaejoong, please don’t!”

“Why? Are you scared of him oppa?” she asked, amused.

“No I’m not! It’s just that he’ll keep bugging me about it. Plus, he’s too overprotective.” He added.

“You’re overprotective towards me too,” Ji Eun defended.

Suddenly Yunho’s stomach growled uncontrollably. “Hungry oppa?” the husband nodded like a child. “Sit, I’ll reheat the food,”

As Ji Eun was preparing dinner for him, Yunho couldn’t help but to stare at her. She looks different now, he had to admit she looks much more beautiful now with a different aura surrounding her. Without even realizing, he was walking closer towards her.

“Yunnie, sit down first. I’ll be done soon,” Ji Eun said whe she felt his presence behind her.

Yunho hugged her from behind, inhaling her scent. It was still sweet with the smell of vanilla but now with a hint of difference. He nuzzled his face in her neck, feeling her soft skin while giving soft kisses to her shoulders.

Wrapping his arms around her and the growing stomach, he whispered in her ear. “Someone’s getting prettier,” he whispered huskily.

Ji Eun felt goosebumps on her skin, shivers ran down her spine as Yunho continued giving soft but warm kisses to her shoulders and neck.

“Y-Yunnie… I’m busy here, go sit first,” she whined, pushing him away from her.

“You smell so good, like a baby with a mix of vanilla,” he added, chin resting on her shoulder. He realized everything was slightly different about her, she has that pregnant mother’s glow surrounding her.

“Yunnie, please?”

Yunho sighed heavily as he went back to sit on the chair. “So, what did you do today?”

“After I went to the doctor, I visited your mother. but she wasn’t around so I went shopping with Jihye unnie,” Ji Eun answered, placing the finished dinner in front of him.

“How do I look oppa?” she asked, twirling around to show her new maternity night gown.

“More beautiful by the second,” he complimented, pecking her lightly on the cheek.

“But I feel fat since I can’t fit into my old clothes anymore,” Ji Eun frowned.

Yunho just smiled, pulling his wife to sit next to him. “You’re the most beautiful now for me, because you’re carrying our child,” he assured her. Ji Eun instantly smiled at the thought, softly gazing at her growing stomach.
